Organizaciones sin fines de lucro, representantes del ayuntamiento, escuelas y familiares de víctimas de crimen se reunieron a dialogar sobre temas de solución para los problemas del crimen, afiliación a las pandillas y el aumento de deserción escolar en las comunidades.

Mexican Organization Supports Metal Concerts (bw) STOCKTON, CA —the heavy sounds of electric guitarss armonized inside the small hall at the Honorific Mexican Comission (Comisión Honorifica Mexicana). More than 100 young adults gathered to enjoy 8 bands playing heavy metal during the afternoon of Saturday January 22nd. “We are on our first concert of a short 15-day tour,” explained guitarist Justin “Cheese” Powell with Deserters —a band from Los Angeles which has a following in northern California. “Deserters are pretty good, I like their vocals,” explained Steven Metal Concert Pg. 4

Carlos Carlos Contreras Contreras Continaude portada Carlos Contreras, nació y creció en Stockton, California y el encontró una fuerte pasión por el arte desde una corta edad. Continues from Cover Carlos Contreras, born and raised in Stockton California found a strong passion for the arts at a young age. Today, Contreras finds himself more focused on having a self-sustaining art venture with a goal to travel the art world. “I have been drawing since I was a kid; but pursuing my art more seriously since 2008,” explained Contreras as he explained that Mrs. Steele inspired his art path. “During a PTA [Parent Teacher Association] meeting Mrs. Steele brought forth a kite I made and share with my parents that they had an artist child.” Carlos has discovered that he can communicate better visually; therefore, an artist career defines him as a person, “while working at my job I felt I was not being myself.” He has been practicing his talent at a designated area at home and recently he is partnering with other friends to paint live during a night club day at Brawleys Bar downtown Stockton. Additionally, at the beginning of 2012 he is working on establishing an
artist studio inside the Mexican Heritage Center and Gallery downtown Stockton. The Mexican Heritage Center offers Contreras a location where he can connect with his roots, “I want to be in spirit of the place.” The arts center as well as going to church allow Carlos an opportunity to connect with his Mexican background. “We are Mexican American, my parents were farm workers and I am first generation born here [USA].” Contreras is planning to visit New York in a near future and hopes to have an opportunity to travel to places that have stuck on his head culturally, i.e. Europe, Japan, Germany, and other geographical locations. You may see some of Carlos Contreras’ pieces in the upcoming Mexican Heritage Center and Gallery’s Exhibit, “Conflict and Resolution.” Conflict and Resolution is an exhibit inspired and collaboration with the Stockton Symphony’s Conflict and Resolution a composition by Thomas Nugent based on Avner Dorman’s Uzu and Muzu.

SACRAMENTO, CA — On January 18, 2012 the State of California was issued a report by Governor Edmund G. Brown on the State of the State. Governor Brown’s report laid out an ambitious agenda for economic growth in the year ahead. The Governor asked the voters to remember the state of the budget deficit and his proposed taxes to the most wealthy in conjunction with cuts on state programs in order to save schools and public safety programs from cuts. Additionally, Brown reported that, “personal income grew by almost $100 billion and 230,000 jobs were created – a rate much higher than the nation as a whole.” Brown talked about his prediction of California future growth to be within the Green industry as we approach AB32’s plan to deal with Climate Change, High-Speed Rail System, and clean tech ventures. Brown is proposed an increase of funding to disadvantaged students like those who are struggling to learn English with consideration that California’s 6 million students speak a hundred or so different languages. The conclusion from brown was that “California has problems but rumors of its demise are greatly exaggerated.”

El propósito del evento, “Llevando el sueño a casa,” es iniciar el año nuevo en torno a una visión positiva y “traducir la cuestión de Martin Luther King, los derechos civiles, a una cuestión de lucha por la justicia y por nuestras familias “, dijo Fr. Dean McFalls de la Iglesia Santa María de la Asunción. Fr. McFalls reporto que en la iglesia Santa María enterró se hicieron presentes cerca de un tercio de las víctimas de homicidios del año pasado. “Nos hacemos llamar familia; el color de la piel no importa, todos somos iguales, sí somos de colores diferentes, pero todos somos útiles”, dijo el joven de 23 años de edad, Jory Lester, miembro organización no lucrativa H.O.P.E. The event was followed by a silent march, which started at St. Mary’s church, passing by the courthouse and City Hall, to finally arrive at the Martin Luther King Park.

But they know the republicans will beat themselves at their own game. Before the last election in 2008, the democrats went on for months having their debates but nothing like what we are seeing now. I had a friend ask me, “DO YOU REALLY THINK PEOPLE WILL VOTE FOR THEM WITH ALL THIS FIGHTING GOING ON?” My answer was that’s how the game is played. After the election, they will all be having lunch with each other. The catch is now with the TEA PARTY splitting the Republican Party in half. What will the tea party do to make change in our system?
Many have said they don’t really know, except they want to cut off all money to cities, counties and states to stop money from going to the federal government. It sounds good, but many government workers are mad. How can you cut off money from services that we provide to the citizens of all venues? Which leaves us to wonder, do they really have the answers to balancing the budget? If you were to ask those who work in that sector, “would you forfeit raises for the next 20 years?”, most would say of course NOT. At the same time, if you ask those in the TEA PARTY if they would give up raises, they would say of course NOT. So in summing up this topic, it looks like a no win situation for everyone. Most say stop spending money overseas and cut the military, and that will cut the budget by billions. To resolve this issue, remember the next time you vote “do you want a candidate to vote to cut your income by 20% or more or just stay in debt until the end of time?”
