Enjoy the Great Conditions on the Golf Course. Spend your Thanksgiving with Angel Fire Resort.

FALL 2014

MEMBER MESSAGE

I

t is great to hear all of the positive comments about the golf course this year. Our new superintendent Joe Distefano has gotten off to a great start with his plans to improve the course and make the Angel Fire Resort Golf Course a must play destination not only for our members but also for golfers across the country. It was also exciting to hear how the Angel Fire Bike Park has become a true family venue with the new Easy Street trail. This trail, designed specifically for beginners provides your family members a safe and controlled environment where they can spend a day on the mountain riding bikes and enjoying the beauty of nature. Speaking of natural beauty, we hope you have plans to visit Angel Fire this fall for the turning of the Aspens. If you need to relax and recharge there is no better time or place than Angel Fire in the fall. The golden mountain sides have a

way of rejuvenating the soul unlike any other time of the year. We look forward to enjoying the mountain with you this fall, Your Membership Team

The Bear Family in Front of their home, the only Earthship in Angel Fire.

MEMBER SPOTLIGHT THE BEAR CAVE After researching several resorts for a ski vacation, the Bear family; Nathaniel, Jamie, Piper, Felix, Jameson and Emberlynn, selected Angel Fire because of the great children’s ski program and the availability of an on-site daycare. Their vacation was so enjoyable they decided to look for a rental property to buy. While looking at property, they were told about an Earthship for sale and Jamie replied, “We will take it. I don’t even need to see it.” Nathan said, “The house faces the south and the sun comes right in during the winter resulting in virtually no heating cost.”

They will soon be adding solar panels which will allow them to eliminate their electric bill. After purchasing the house they quit their jobs in Austin and moved to Angel Fire, ready to start from scratch. Nathaniel quickly found work and Jamie opened the Angel Fire Soap Company. Her handcrafted, all natural soap is sold at the Farmers Market in Eagle Nest and by local vendors. The product is so popular that she is now looking to open her own store. Jamie explained, “We love this community and want the new shop to be a place for everyone to come and just hangout.”

WHAT’S THE NEWS FALL COLORS Fall is in the air and the golf course is absolutely fantastic shape. Kudos to Joe Distefano and his talented crew for the excellent conditions, especially the putting greens. They have been using the new greens mower and greens roller to keep the putting surfaces smoother and faster. Don Willingham mentioned he has received a great deal of positive feedback from the Members about the improved course conditions. “These are the best conditions I have seen and I have been here since 2008,” said Mark Trapp. Mark your calendars for a new exciting fall event which will take place on Saturday, September 13. We are calling it the Angel Fire Million Dollar Hole-In-One Charity Classic, call 575-377-4488 or visit angelfireresort.com for more details.

Please make your reservations soon, 575.377.3055. Saturday’s events begin early in the morning with a Country Market, featuring fresh fruits and vegetables, as well as arts and crafts. At noon it is time to head to the beer tent for an afternoon of great music, delicious food and cold beer. There will also be a variety of games and fun activities for children. Prost!

Best Wine Selections at Elements

Fall is also a great time of year to invite friends up to Angel Fire Resort and take advantage of the Swing Season rates starting on Monday, September 15. Let them know about the Stay and Play packages at the Lodge, which can include unlimited golf! When the air temperature drops the aspens’ leaves turn from a summery green to brilliant shades of yellow, orange and red. Groves of aspen trees can be seen throughout Angel Fire and the Enchanted Circle. The views make an excellent, comfortable car tour, or for a more up close and personal experience, go for a hike or bike ride and be sure to bring your camera!

Break OUt the Lederhosen Get ready for a bigger and better Oktoberfest celebration weekend in Angel Fire this year. This community-wide event will take place Friday, September 19 – 21 and include German-themed food, fun, music, events and of course – beer. The festivities begin on Friday with a delicious traditional German feast at Elements prepared by Mathias Klemmt. This fine-dining extravaganza can sell out quickly and due to its popularity.

Congratulations go out to Jillian Smothers and her amazing staff for winning the impressive Award of Excellence from Wine Spectator Magazine for the superb selection of wine available at Elements. That makes two years in a row. “I’m very excited to have Elements win this award again. I truly appreciate our Membership who share in my love of great wine! I look forward to our continuing enjoyment and celebration of food and wine here at the Country Club. Cheers!” said Jillian.

Calling all flakes With the cooler temperatures, the first snowfall is surely just around the corner. Our annual Calling All Flakes Member Social will take place on Saturday, November 29th and includes a bonfire, great food and hopefully some of the forecasted “El Nino” snow.

The Platinum Advantage Did you know that with Platinum membership, we offer free golf club storage during the golf season? Not only does this eliminate the hassle of dragging your clubs to and from the house but it also eliminates the need for storage space. If you have taken advantage of this benefit, make sure to pick up your clubs prior to the close of golf season. This year the golf course closes on October 19th and all clubs must be claimed prior to that date.
