WHAT’S THE NEWS

EVENTS CALENDAR

fter a whopping 17.5 feet of snowfall this winter, our mountains and meadows are bright green and our lakes full. Our golf course is stunning, thanks in no small part to the meticulous care provided by Golf Superintendent, Joe Distefano. Playing conditions are excellent. Try to stay out of the streams on the back nine. As full as they are, your ball will be good as gone. We are proud to announce that, for the second consecutive year, Angel Fire Bike Park was voted the best in the Southwest by MTBparks.com. Whether you are a beginner riding Easy Street, an intermediate on Boulder Dash, or an adrenaline junkie flying down Hungry Hippo, you’ll love biking in Angel Fire. We are also adding additional cross-country biking trails this season. We hope you’ll join us this summer! Fishing season kicked off with several 17- and 18-inch trout caught at Monte Verde Lake. FLY FISHING LAKE OPENS AT THE SUMMIT

MEMBER SPOTLIGHT “As AAFPO President, I worked hard to establish better communication between AAFPO members and the leadership of the resort.” We want to thank Mike for his service as the AAFPO Board President and offer our appreciation to both he and Wende for their contributions to our community. We wish him the best with his upcoming retirement.

Mike’s first job in Angel Fire was as a real estate agent for BIPS Realty. Real estate became a natural fit for Mike and, over time, he purchased several agencies, which have grown to become RE/MAX Mountain Realty.

A year in the making! Angel Fire Resort will officially open a fully stocked fly fishing haven at the summit this summer. Summit Lake will be home to Rainbow Trout and will host a series of fly fishing clinics, private lessons, and full rental equipment. The catch-andrelease lake is scheduled to open July 1.

BIKING

With the addition of more cross-country and downhill trails, we’ll have over 100 total miles of trail by summer’s end. New bike racks have been added to the Chile Express chairlift for easier transport to the summit. An additional green belt trail is planned connecting the Lady Slipper trail to the South Boundary trail, opening access from the Village of Angel Fire to the National Forest trail system. www.angelfirebikepark.com.

Balloons once again fly over Angel Fire in this exciting summer event and will be host to an array of color in the skies. www.angelfirefun.com.

In 2001, Mike and Wende Woolley decided to fulfill their dream of living in the mountains. They chose Angel Fire because of its proximity to Dallas, the cost of living, and the natural beauty of the area. They also decided the move was a good opportunity for Mike, a music minister at a church in Rockwall, TX, to make a career change.
