“Chaka” Our feature model
By Citty Kat Our model that captured our interest this season is none other than Chaka McCue. Chaka is a Fashion/Fetish (tattoo) model from Kansas City. She recently finished a photo shoot for Misfitz Hatz and impressed the designer so much that she wanted to know a little more about her. So here is what Ms. McCue had to say. “I started 3 years ago. It happened by chance, i really knew nothing about it. Someone asked if i wanted to do a shoot and i said yes.” Says Chaka. “I grew up facinated by J-Lo as a “Fly Girl” on “In Living Color.” So i got into dancing as a child. Seeing her start from nothing and grow to where she is now had really inspired me.” says Chaka of Jennifer Lopez. “I am interested in getting into several different types of modeling such as print, couture, and fashion shows just to name a few off the top of my head. Even though i am still developing and learning the art of the modeling world, i take on each project with the same passion of a professional.” “My dream is to be a well-know model nationwide. I want to work for big names such as Versace or Chanel. I know that i have an “Alternative look” with my Tattoos and Body Art, but that doesn’t mean there is not a spot in high fashion with my name on it.” Says Chaka confidently. Ackov Designs started in 2012. The Passion behind the movement was the fact that the creator and designer of AV Magazine was approached by an amatuer model looking for some exposure. The model reacheed out to other big name local magazines who offered her no assistance. She took it upon herself to contact Ashia Ackov, a woman she had recently modeled for and that is when Ackov took it upon herself to start her own magazine company. She named it AV Magazine. AV stands for Always Victorious and the name is quite fitting for the owner.

“I have personally found it very hard to get a break anywhere now-a-days.” Says Ackov, “If you want something you really have to do it yourself and i do mean anything. People are very apprehensive about helping or giving anyone a chance for that matter.” “ I may be the last one left like that. I always believe in helping out when i can because that is just good karma. Even if i never hear a Thank You in return, at least my heart was in the right place and i can say i tried.” Ashia knew nothing about putting together a magazine and started by Googling information, Interviewing friends and Hiring Students as interns in exchange for High School credit.
“My writers are 16 and 17 year old High school kids from schools in Wichita Kansas To Emporia Kansas. I try not to give them too much of a hard time about writing mistakes, but i do ask them to watch their grammer and sentence formations. I know kids try to take short steps in writing because they are so use to texting that they forget the basics.” Explains Ashia. “Right now, I really have my hands full. I am a full time student majoring in Advertising, I am a fashion designer, I run this magazine parttime and i also do freelance graphic designs. There is never a dull day in my life because on top of it all, i am a mother and a wife.” Ackov concluded. Riverfest 2016 is going down!!! The Wichita Riverfest is always a good time and this year is no exception. The events hosted always has something for everyone. From live concerts, zip-lining, Carnival rides, soccer games, cash contest, free Zumba classes and of course good food from vendors all over the greater Wichita area.
