“Awesome A”

Photography by Chaxazo

Story by Citty Kat There is no question. Ashia put’s the “A” in Awesome. She is the designer of Mismatched Misfitz Clothing Boutique, Creating all those wonderfully funky designs. As if that weren’t enough she also manages her own teen modeling agency, photograph’s her talent, designs Web pages and Herself, is a model. “I was not formally trained to do anything that i do, Says ackov, I originally went to college for Criminal Justice but That bore me into a coma.” “For people with ADD you have to find something that holds your attention and allows room for growth and creativity. One day i was watching Project Runway with my husband and i told him, that doesn’t look to hard, i think i can do that. “ We always think men don’t listen, but later that week, he brought home a brand new sewing machine wrapped in a pink bow . I was extra cheesy to say the least, smiling like a cheshire cat!” explains Ashia. “I didn’t know where to begin. so i sat up that night and watched the instructional video with showed basic sewing steps. Nothing too technical. It took about a month, and hours of youtube help videos but i learned. Everything i create is without a pattern, original, and one of a kind.” Says Ackov. Unique is and understatement. From a person who just decide to try something new out of the blue one day straight to the runway, Ashia has some fabulous designs! Costumes that look like they walked off the set of “Moulin Rouge” , Wonderful white wedding gowns, to sexy Clubwear and cocktail dresses. There is something for every woman at MM Boutique. Vampin’ it up with Sakura Kouture Makeup Story By Jennifer Whedon

The smokey eye Our faces are a canvas for amazing artwork. Make up artist are the ulitimate “go to” when it comes to fashion. You wouldn’t go to a red carpet event without consulting an MUA first, you wouldn’t do a major photo shoot without one either. When you want the perfect look you consult a professional. I am going to go over a GlamVam smokey eye tutorial with you today to give you a few tips and secrets. Step 1:To start the look off right I used an eye primer made by Hard Candy and I covered my lid and browbone with a thin layer. This helps hold the eye makeup in place and have longer lasting wear. Step 2 : Using a flat brush, I applied a shade of turquoise from Shany Cosmetics Makeup Artist Pro 96 Pallet all over my lid, edging up a little towards the crease, this will be used in blending in a later step. Step 3: To fill in my brows and give them a bit of shape, I opted to use the Black from the 96 pallet as a filler Step 4 : Usually to get the angle achieved I use scotch tape, today I am using an angle brush; judging the angle from the tip of my nose up to the outside corner of my eyebrows. I used a shade of deep purple from the 96 Pallet as well, taking the angled brush and blending the purple into the turquoise, as I went outwards to the corner I allowed the color to darken and then blend out. This forms what I like to refer to as a modified cut crease. Step 5: To Highlight my brow line, I used NYC's glitter eye dust, blending it in with the purple edges, this adds to the dramatic effect. Step 6: I used Italia's Navy Blue liquid eyeliner to line my lower lashline Step 7: I am a huge fan of the felt tip eyeliners, so for my upper lash line I used Physicians Formula

Eye Definer felt tip eye marker, making a thin line just along the lashes and fanning out as if doing a Cat's Eye. Step 8: On the inner corner of my eyes I applied Medusa's Makeup "Blue Balls" Eye Dust to act as a highlight, this adds a subtle lighter color pop to the mix of the darker shades. Step 9: As far as mascara goes, I love Almay's One Coat Dial Up, you can adjust the brush and get different wear for your eyelashes depending on the look you are going for. I applied this to the upper and lower lashes to finish of the dramatic eyes. Step 10: Next on to the lips; I started out by lining my lips in Maybeline's Touch of Toffee Lipstain to add a little bit more depth to the look of my lips Step 11: Ultimately the look would be incomplete without adding Medusa's Makeup "Smooch" Lip gloss! Thanks for taking the time to check out one of my MANY "Rawkin" looks! Tighten up! With Trenton James When it comes to arms women need to know that lifting weights will not make them big and bulky. The more lean muscle you put on your body the more fat the muscle will burn. A women will become smaller and toned by lifting weights. So don’t be afraid to Pick up the dumbbells next time you're at the gym. These are my Keys to nice arms:

1. Full range of motion: Begin with your arms fully extended to the front or side of your body. This is determined based on what type of arm curl you are performing. 2. Curl the weight up to 45 degrees using your bicep(do not swing the weight or lean back to lift it) If you have to swing or lean back then you are more than likely using too much weight. 3. Do not lock your elbow at the top of the movement, the weight should be held by your bicep before returning back to the starting position. 4. Make every repetition count. If you feel the urge to swing the weight or lean back to complete the movement sit the weight down. Recover for a few seconds then complete the remainder of your repetitions for that set. The benefits of practicing proper form and full range of motion for all repetitions is complete muscle development and faster results. 5. It is also important to know that the bicep is a single muscle, in order to make the arm look complete you will also need to focus on building the back of the arm, which is the triceps. Working these muscle in conjunction with arm curls will yield excellent results and compliments. 6. Keep in mind that the heavier you can lift the faster the muscle will develop and the faster you will see results. 3 Sets of 68 repetitions 3 Days a week is optimal. Use weight that is heavy enough to challenge you but that you can use to complete each set and every repetition with proper form. I’d love to see how this is working out for you. Feel free to send your Before and after photos to Wrkhrse@yahoo.com

Priority before passion in all things : The man behind the Muscle

Our Featured Physical fitness expert has a very inspiring story to tell. I believe when people meet someone it is natural to judge a book by the cover. But you would never guess this about him. Not in a million years. He is the true meaning of “mind over matter.” I hope this story touches your hearts like it did mine. Trenton James was Born in September of 1976 in Topeka Kansas. #5 of 8 kids, two older brothers and three sisters. Married for 15 years father of 5 two girls and three boys. Education:B.A. Science in Criminal Justice, Graduated Washburn University in 02. Worked as a Corrections Officer for Shawnee County Department of Corrections for year and half before becoming an Juvenile Intensive Supervision Probation Officer in Shawnee County 4/02. Moved to Adult Intensive Supervision Probation at the end of 03 and have been doing it ever since. I've been involved with fitness all of my life, played football, basketball and ran track from junior high through high school. At the age of 16 discovered that I had a rare tumor that destroys cartilage inside of the bone. This type of tumor makes the bone susceptible to fractures and was found growing in my left hip socket. I was fortunate enough to have gotten to the proper Dr. at the right time and avoided a fracture but I had lost over 75% of the muscle tone in my left leg from the waist down in less than a year. I underwent Hip Surgery which involved performing a bone graft from my waist to replace what had been damaged in my hip. This occurred during the summer of my Freshman year of high school. Subsequently I missed a great deal of competitive sports until I was able to truly

participate towards the end of my Sophomore year. I went on to letter in Track and Field my Sophomore year and Basketball, Football and Track and Field my Junior and Senior years. After graduating in 95 I was invited to play on All Star exhibition Football team that traveled to New Zealand and Hawaii the summer before I attended college. I attended school at Hutchinson Community College on a football scholarship for two years. I then returned to Topeka and completed my degree in Criminal Justice. I am inspired by challenges, I was told by a Dr. prior to my surgery that maybe I wasn't any good at sports and I should just take up the Violin. I was determined to play at the level or near the level that I felt I was capable of so I took it as a personal challenge. I believe in pushing my body to the limit and beyond just to prove to myself that obstacles such as the one I endured are ways of building character and self will. Two years ago I became a Certified Personal Trainer because I believed that other people could benefit from overcoming the physical obstacles in their lives. A lot of people know what they would like to achieve but don’t have the drive or no how to accomplish it. Shortly before I became Certified my Mother was Diagnosed with Stage 4 Lung Cancer, she was given a window of 6 months to live. This was a big blow to my family and we all had to find ways of dealing with the thought of her no longer being around. I wanted to find a way to support those suffering from Cancer while my mother went through her experience that’s when I heard about the Race Against Breast Cancer 5k Race/Walk (3.1 Miles) that has been held annually in Topeka since 1991. I began training for this event and ran it in September of 2011, my mother passed away 5 months later. I found that the running was a great release and also

increased endorphins which have been known to create the feelings of euphoria and happiness. To date I have ran more than 40 5K races and have placed in the top 5% in more than half of those races. I have also run 3 Half Marathons(13.1)miles and have switched my training to running Half Marathons exclusively due to the challenge the distance places on your body physically and mentally. I do not have the typical runners build 205lbs 6”0” and muscular but I have managed to improve on my abilities and other runners recognize me as a competitive runner when I show up for races. I will be taking part in the Tough Mudder being held in Topeka at Heartland Race track in late September. This is a 1013 mile run with 25 obstacles that were developed by the British Military’s Special Forces built to test your all around strength, stamina and mental grit. I see it as a worthy challenge and look forward to completing it. I will also be running in several other half marathons around the Kansas area in the coming months. If i can overcome lifes hurdles, so can you. No excuses.

Fox has been entertaining around the Kansas area as a female impersonator for almost 4 years. Victoria got her start in Manhattan, Kansas in June of 2009, while going to college at Kansas State University to obtain a degree in Nutrition. Models and Mayhem Meet Erika

Roach Photgtaphy

Story By Phantom

All women are beautiful if i must say so myself. There is nothing more alluring, sexy and graceful in this world than a woman. The hips, the lips, the curves, the swerve...So damn fine. (Coughs, Ahem let me compose myself). As i was saying, Women are a work of art. Our model in the spotlight is Miss Erika. She is a young vivacious 20something born in Indiana But raised in Kansas. She started her modeling debut only a year ago although the diva was within her years before.

“I don’t look at myself as a model, i look at myself as a role model! Representing for all the Dark Skinned girls in the world.” exclaimed Erika. “In the black community, it’s prejudice too! Skin tone against skin tone. If you’re Dark skinned that isn’t considered the thing to be or what’s in. You notice in the movies that black people produce, the leading ladies are always light skinned. The hoodrat type girls will always be cast by darkskinned black girls. “Don’t believe me? Watch B.E.T. I want to put my fellow sistas in a different spotlight so to speak and show you all that we were ALWAYS in! So move over Tyra’s, The NEW Naomi is here! “ You can contact Erika For modeling work on FaceBook : https://www.facebook.com/erika.holley

Metro Makeover By Citty Kat

Men and style. To me, it’s either you have it or you don’t. When we think of a stylish man, We automatically picture a drop dead gorgeous David Beckham type who could slip on a pink tutu and still look hot. In reality, in part that is actually true. I am sure you have heard that confidence is sexy. Knowing how to dress for you body and skin tone is the key to looking fabulous. You better praise your God above for the Gays, because without them we’d be bland & boring. So, using a volunteer and a few tips from my Gusband, We took this Typical Teen whose sense of style is a tee shirt and baggy jeans and gave him a whole new look. First of all, Wear the right colors for your skintone. Now our model has a nice Dark skin, but his problem is is wears a lot of dark colors Which wash him out. So to add a splash of color to his wardrobe really brings out the youthfulness in his skin instead of making him look older. Second is Facial hair. O.k., some guys can get away with the scruffy. I don’t mind, just keep it nice and neat. You should never have more hair in your nose than you do on your head. So shave, trim and keep it presentable. Hair can make the man. Thirdly, and lastly. Pull your pants up!! We don’t want to see your underpants. wear pants that fit you. They don’t have to be jeggings but at least make sure they stay on your waist. We used these 3 tips on our model and are curious what you think about the before and after? Let us know: latinaofnewyork@yahoo.com

Before And After

Our model, 16 year old Touree Thornton, Has a style crutch, he loves baggy clothes and oversized shirts. By changing up his clothing color choice and dressing in clothes that fit, You automatically see a dramatic change. A note to the fellas: Women want to see your curves they same way you want to see ours. (just and F.Y.I.)

Music We can all relate to

Story By Phantom I don’t Care what anyone says, there is nothing like live music. Brothawood is a “must see". A smooth R&B sound fused with jazz and soul. That is how i would describe the music of Brothawood. A group consisting of 4 members, their main musical influences would be described as “Old School” Motown 70’s and later. Even Though all the musicians have been playing separately since childhood, They have only been together as a band for a couple of years. The Band has made several appearances around Topeka Lightening up the room with Great cover songs we all know and love.
