Alyssa is a beautiful girl, handsdown. But looks are one thing. If you look deeper, you will see that she is so much more. The gorgeous Topeka native has had a hardknock life. However, she is the type of person who looks at the glass half full and turned her pain into passion. Here is the story of Alyssa Marie Young. “When I was younger, my mom’s lifelong dream was to become a model. Then life took a terrible toll on her. Whether it was meth or alcohol, if she had it, she was doing it. As I watched her body slowly deteriorate, I realized the human body is a temple, not to be abused. We should not be ashamed of it or try to hide it. When an old friend of mine started taking pictures me posing and changing into different outfits, I loved it! In those “photoshoots” I realized I wanted to be a model. I could show the world that a girl can go through pain in her life and still come out and shine. It does not matter how beat up or insecure you may feel. Your past does not define you. Your future is whatever you decide to make it. I want mine to be modeling.” Said Young. “ I have been modeling for three years, but in my heart, it feels like I have been doing it ever since I can remember. My first and second photo shoot I was definitely both nervous and yet a natural at it. I felt my body jolting with energy and excitement, while also shaking with uncontrollable fear. What helped me the most was being with photographers who made me laugh. I laughed enough to forget about snapping my ankles in nine-inch heels. Eventually, I began to feel more comfortable. I started to feel like the real me.” “Ashe Alvarado, my best friend in the world, inspires me. She taught me how to position my body, and how to see different perspectives. She showed me how beautiful the world can be. I have many insecurities, but she taught me to control my anxiety and embrace my fears. Other influences that inspire me are my two trusted photographers, Justin Williams and Justin Sanders. They both taught me the values of the human body. They taught me how to treat and respect my body, something I had not learned from my family. They are not just photographers, they are the wings that have guided me and set me free.” explained Ayssa. Right now, Alyssa is hard at work but is still available part-time for legit photoshoots in Topeka & surrounding areas. You can contact her at: Facebook: Alyssa Young, e-mail: Alyssa.young111@gmail.com and snapchat: jackedupwaffles. “I am an open book. Life is too short to play games or hide from the truth. Be who you are.”

Story edited by Ashia Ackov I regularly scour social media for Indie Artist of all shapes and forms and i was so lucky to come across this young lady. Her name is ChiArra Keiz-Jahhe’. She is a young up and coming Graphic Designer from Kentucky. Her work is both vibrant and functional because what caught my eye is that she is putting her art into everyday items we use such as purses, backpacks, shoes and umbrellas.

Pictured above; The Chi Umbrella

“As an artist, I realized I was doing what I loved when drawing became my everyday routine. Still till this day, when I’m out doing things around town, I can’t wait to get back home just to turn on my computer and get to work. You can find me somewhere drawing on my iPad or using some sort of design software creating until like 2AM sometimes. I’ve been drawing since I was a kid but as a business owner, designing for others, April will be a year. “ Says ChiArra.

“Art is how I express myself. I want others to realize any dream is achievable, it may take time but you will get there and you will learn so much about yourself during the process. I’ve recently collaborated with Yolanda Perkins, she is the owner of Swimmie Caps. She was looking for an illustrator and I commented on her post looking to work with new people and we instantly hit it off! She is the first swim cap brand to feature black and brown kids! We have similar styles when it comes to designing so we make a great team! She says.

Ok., so as a natural haired gal, i have a confession. I saw the Umbrellas that she posted and thought, what a brilliant idea. I usually just throw a shower cap on when it’s pouring, but i would proudly walk in the rain with one of these. Here’s more: “My #CHIbrellas come out April 1st, 2018. I’m starting with two umbrellas that are geared towards African American ladies. My first reverse umbrella has a girl named “KEI” on it – her slogan is “Can’t Afford To Get This Hair Wet!”. I’m sure a BUNCH of ladies relate to this statement. “KEI” is a super dope chick who likes to stand out. If you are into bright colors…. you should definitely consider getting you one! My second umbrella features ALL four of my girl characters on it. I made them solid black silhouettes for the ladies who aren’t into all the bright colors and sayings. Said Keiz-Jahhe. Story by Ashia Ackov

Did you know that over 50 years ago, the very first comic con or comic book convention was held? It was nothing in comparison to the comic cons we have today. If you ask someone what they go to one of these conventions for, it will probably be one of two answers. To meet their favorite superhero, or to be their favorite superhero. Today’s comic cons have certainly evolved and focused more on the aesthetics of the movie characters or video game characters which is understandably so, being that technology has changed so much in how we collect. I know I personally love going to take pictures of the larger than life characters we have all grown to love. And, I’ll admit, I do dress like Storm whenever I can. Are you a fan? Who isn’t? Let me tell you where some of the biggest conventions will take place in your areas. Let me start with the Comic-con International at the San Diego convention center in the wonderful San Diego. This happens from July 19th to July 22. This is one of the Largest in the USA and features, celebrity guest, Film Fest, Video Game Previews, giveaways, a free Masquerade contest for you to participate in ( so where your costumes) large exhibit areas and some of the most amazing anime you have ever seen. Make this a Bucketlist event because it is really something you have to experience. Any D.C. area fans? Well, this week March 30th to April 1st., Awesome Con. Now, Awesome Con has a lot of the same features and Comic-Con however, They have an amazing Future Con area that was actually created with the Smithsonian. This is a science-based area that also explores science fiction. Heading down south, we have FAN EXPO Dallas. Another cool spot with a ton of celebrity guests. Spoiler alert ladies...Jason Momoa will be there in all his glory! But seriously, if you are a fan of all things 80’s like me, Michael J. Fox will also make a special appearance just so he can take us all the way Back to the Future. Are you a Tattoo enthusiast who also happens to love LucasFilms? The Ink-Fusion Empire will be there to give you that work. They are also the only Tattoo Artist that have an agreement to give Tattoos in the likeliness of some of your favorite Superheroes and villains. Go check that one out this April 6th -8th. Up North, We have C2E2 also known as the Chicago Comic & Entertainment Expo. This event is one that Gamers will love because they will be featuring a Mass VR Experience. They have a special battle room where up to 8 players at a time can experience what it is actually like to be in the video game. To Experience VR Champions, you will have to be there April 6th -8th. Why? Because they are the only ones to bring it to you this year. These are just a few of the many conventions taking place this year. With so many options, I am sure you can find one within your reach to attend. Did I mention, ticket prices range from $12-$55 dollars where many have the option of children getting in free with an adult paid ticket. If I could, I would try to make them all, but, it is my goal to at least make it to one this year. Come join the fun!

“When did I realize that I love doing what I loved? Ever since I was 14 years old. I learned and perfected my talent afterwords trying to become better each time I picked up a microphone. Back then, I had a keyboard making beats and creating my vision.,CHERRUGMusic. I haven’t collaborated with anyone before but if I could, I would collaborate with Chris brown, logic, lil Wayne, Nicki manaj, Big Sean, kendrick lamar, School boy Q, Ty dollar Signs and more the list goes on. But that would be my ideal colab. My inspiration for doing what I love to do is “Music” yes because its in me. My passion for it, the love for it you can’t replace that especially when it is embedded in your soul. My plans for the future is to stay humble, stay independent, and stay true to myself and my fans. Currently, i am working on my album and perfecting my branding image. For people trying to do what they love just do it and don’t be afraid to do it. Go hard in anything it doesn’t matter. Make it happen. “ Says Artist Local Santana Please check out what i am working on now: https://cherrug158.bandcamp.com/releases
