A Message from your Foundation Aloha Foundation Friends, I have had the privilege of being the Executive Director of the Maui Memorial Medical Center Foundation for a little over five years, and in that time, I have witnessed first-hand the Momentum of growth, changes and improvements in our community hospital, Maui Memorial Medical Center. When the MMMC Foundation was created in 1997, its purpose and mission was to ensure that MMMC had the needed resources to provide a high level of medical care to our community and visitors alike. Because of your support and confidence in MMMC, we the Foundation are able to continue to fulfill our mission... “because life is precious.” Aligning the Foundation to work side by side with MMMC has accelerated our Momentum of growth, enabling us to raise friends and funds for continued support of MMMC’s many programs and services. You are part of this Momentum. Your generosity has made it possible. You are to be commended for your trust in our Foundation and Maui Memorial Medical Center, our community hospital. With much gratitude,

Ululani S. Correa Executive Director Maui Memorial Medical Center Foundation

Maui’s Visitor Industry Charity Walk A big mahalo to all who supported MMMC and your Foundation’s efforts during the Visitor Industry Charity Walk held on May 15. MMMC Foundation board member Dr. Colleen Inouye extends the Foundation’s appreciation to Kent Smith of the Kent & Polli Smith Foundation.

Kent & Polli Smith Foundation In January, MMMC Foundation received a generous $5,000 donation from the Kent & Polli Smith Foundation through the Hawaii Community Foundation. Funds were used to purchase an i-STAT Handheld Blood Analyzer for MMMC’s Obstetrics Department.

“There has been tremendous change at the hospital in the past 50 years. When I first started at Maui Memorial Hospital, we did not have many of the support services such as Respiratory Therapy and the Intensive Care Unit. The nurses did most all of the patient care, and they did an excellent job.” Carol Matsumoto RPN , MMMC nurse since 1962

Lani Correa (MMMCF) and Judy Kodama (MMMC) thank Greg LaGoy (Hospice Maui) for the equipment donation.

Hospice Maui Thanks to Hospice Maui’s collaboration with other non-profit organizations and their ongoing support of our community, MMMC is now the proud recipient of wheel chairs and other medical equipment. Our heartfelt appreciation goes to Greg LaGoy, Hospice Maui Executive Director, along with their patients and families who donate equipment they no longer need and others can use.

MMMC’s Evelyn Kiyabu and Miguel Landron demonstrate the new Stryker Stretcher Chair.

New Stryker Stretcher Chair MMMC’s Occupational Therapy / Physical Therapy (OT/PT) Department are the proud recipients of a Stryker Stretcher Chair, thanks to a generous donation by the MMMC Foundation. The chair has many features that the staff love, but MMMC’s patients love the chair even more with its much needed support and comfort.

Hearts for Heart Patients When MMMC’s open heart patients recuperate from surgery they’ll receive a special pillow compliments of the hospital. Not only do these beautiful heart-shaped pillows provide comfort, but they also support the patient’s chest incisions during breathing exercises, when they cough or need to move in bed. A big Mahalo to the ladies from Alpha Delta Kappa, Omicron Chapter, who sewed over 100 pillows for the hospital’s Cardiovascular unit.

Yvette Makahanaloa and Kelly Ibarra of Hale East proudly display their rolling book cart.

A Message from the Treasurer

December 31, 2010

Our Strength in Numbers On behalf of our entire Board of Directors, I’d like to take this opportunity to first and foremost extend a sincere and grateful Thank You to all who have donated to the MMMC Foundation and continue to support our mission “to ensure MMMC has the resources needed to provide the highest level of medical care for our community ...because life is precious.” In 2010, our financial picture continued its forward momentum. Some of the highlights include the sale of a residential property which was bequeathed to the Foundation, and sold in 2010. The proceeds from this sale continue to support our vision of improved health and patient care services here at MMMC. In addition, the Foundation was able to purchase a commercial real estate property in close proximity to MMMC for the purpose of providing improved health care services. Through a long-term lease with MMMC, this transaction will provide future sustainability for the Foundation and is really a “gift that keeps on giving.” Thank you again for your support of our community hospital. We hope we can count on your continued generosity -“because life is precious.” Respectfully submitted,
