SPOTLIGHT IN CONVERSATION: ASHLYNN BROWNING + KATY MIXON HODGES TAYLOR Through June 10 hodgestaylor.com This series of exhibitions is about starting a conversation between two artists and the viewer. Hodges Taylor invited an artist partner to ask another artist who inspires them to exhibit their work together. In Conversation captures the exchange between two practicing artists and illuminates the parallels they recognize in their work and beyond. An opening reception with the artists will be held on April 1 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. The exhibit can be viewed online or Wednesday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. by appointment.
HARVEY B. GANTT CENTER Through June 26 ganttcenter.org The Harvey B. Gantt Center has primarily built its collection through works gifted to the institution. Over the decades, John and Vivian Hewitt collected works from artists near and far, culminating in an array of artwork by nineteenth- and twentieth-century masters. FuturePresent embodies this legacy through the presentation of works that are pioneering in their concept. Featured artists push the boundaries of the traditional canvas and explore landscapes and societal themes through a contemporary lens. This exhibition visualizes the future of art.
AT THE ROOT SOZO GALLERY April 13–May 28 sozogallery.net At the Root is a group exhibition featuring the work of four contemporary artists: Jill Hotchkiss, Ana Maria Mariani, Michela Martello, and Kristen van Diggelen Sloan. This exhibition will act as a visual investigation into spirituality and intimacy, with emphasis on nature, transcendence, and introspection. Opening reception on Wednesday, April 13, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
