DIVINE MERCY SUNDAY

Divine Mercy is a feast day celebrated on the Second Sunday of Easter. It is originally based on the Catholic devotion to the Divine Mercy that Faustina Kowalska reported as part of her encounter with Jesus. The feast of Divine Mercy, according to the diary of Faustina, receives from Jesus the biggest promises of grace related to the Devotion of Divine Mercy, in particular that a person who goes to sacramental confession (the confession may take place some days before) and receives holy communion on that day, shall obtain the total expiation of all sins and punishment. Meaning they would go immediately after death to heaven without suffering in purgatory. The Catholic Church grants a plenary indulgence (observing the usual rules) with the recitation of some simple prayers.

It is the policy of the Diocese of Scranton to report any allegation of sexual abuse of a minor to law enforcement. If you are a victim of sexual abuse committed by a priest, deacon, religious or lay employee or volunteer of the Diocese of Scranton, you are encouraged to immediately report the matter to law enforcement. If any priest, deacon, religious, lay employee or volunteer of the Diocese of Scranton has cause or reason to suspect that a minor has been subjected to any form of abuse, including child sexual abuse, the matter will be reported to law enforcement.

Deacon’s NOTE

Thomas was a modern man, finding faith hard, like many people today. He was let down by the others who ran away, the leader denied Jesus, his trust in the group of apostles had been abused. He didn’t want much more to do with them. He had got red of it all. He wanted to believe but needed a sort of proof. But faith grows within a community. That’s why we bap ze children, because faith grows from the beginning of life. We find growth in our faith through the community - for example, in the Mass, shared rosary, sharing our faith in a group, a good spiritual book, sharing our doubts but never closing the door to Jesus, sharing our faith in thanks for what our faith gives us.

ST. PATRICK’S CEMETERY—CLEAN–UP TIME

With spring upon us and the grass beginning to grow you are asked to please help get the cemetery cleaned up by removing all old flower pots and old decorations from your family graves. When you clean up, please take your debris with you. Do not throw it along the side or back of the cemetery for someone else to attend to.

HELPFUL FOR ALL CEMETERIES

Now is a good time for anyone who puts flower pots or decorations on any family graves in any cemetery to help do their part by cleaning up and removing all old flower pots and decorations from your family graves. When you clean up, please take your debris with you. Do not throw it along the side or back of the cemetery for someone else to attend to. Cleaning up is very helpful to those who mow the cemeteries (their job is, after all, only to mow and weed eat) and your efforts help keep things looking nice for all visitors to enjoy.

THANK YOU TO FATHER AUGUSTINE, DEACON PAUL, OUR ALTAR SERVERS, ORGANIST, CHOIR, LECTORS, MINISTERS, THOSE WHO PARTICIPATED IN THE FOOT WASHING ON HOLY THURSDAY, THOSE WHO DONATED FOR EASTER FLOWERS, AND THOSE WHO DECORATED THE CHURCHES.
