Around the Towns of Center Harbor, Meredith and Moultonboro Center Harbor, nestled between Red Hill and the Ossipee Mountains, is a quaint and friendly village whose Main Street offers one of the best views of Lake Winnipesaukee. With access to “the big lake” and with frontage on Winona, Waukewan and Squam lakes, the town boasts l,600 acres of water area. Several restaurants in the town offer visitors a choice that ranges from a casual meal to a gourmet dining experience. Here shoppers can find one-of-a-kind arts and crafts, fine jewelry, clothing, home furnishings, hardware and boating needs, fine wines and more. Center Harbor is also home to Keepsake Quilting, the country’s largest quilting supply company whose annual summer sale draws sewers from all over the country. A local bookstore has a lively schedule of events, including author signings, “art on the porch” for kids during the summer, and reading clubs. Also during the summer months, band concerts and chamber music can be heard at the town’s bandstand, swimmers enjoy the town beach, and the M/S Mount Washington (whose winter berth is in Center Harbor) pays a weekly call to the town docks.

Once a prosperous mill and farming community, Meredith’s spectacular waterfront and picturesque downtown area is easy to reach from two of New Hampshire’s major northern routes. Nicknamed the “Latchkey to the White Mountains,” the town is situated between several lakes yet is only a short drive to the mountains offering diverse options for recreational activities. Shopping, lodging, restaurants, craft fairs, community events, summer theater, concerts and recreational activities provide something for the whole family to enjoy. The beautiful town park and docks allow visitors to come by boat, and provide the M/S Mount Washington access for regular stops on its summer and fall cruises. The annual Rotary Ice Fishing Derby is a popular winter attraction, drawing hopeful anglers from all of New England, and marks Meredith as a resort area with year-round appeal.

Home to the famous Castle in the Clouds, Moultonboro boasts the longest shore frontage (68 miles) of any town on Lake Winnipesaukee. Situated between the Ossipee Mountains and “the big lake,” Moultonboro offers a wide range of recreational activities. You could hike along a mountain trail in the morning; explore “The Castle,” learn about loons, rent a boat or personal watercraft or go swimming in the afternoon; have a leisurely dinner at one of the town’s many restaurants serving meals from fun to fabulous; then enjoy bingo or a band concert. For a nostalgic shopping trip the whole family can enjoy, visit the Old Country Store where the penny candy counter can keep kids busy filling a bag with sweet treats, many of which parents (and grandparents) will remember from their own childhoods. The large public beach on Long Island schedules swimming classes and includes a scenic picnic area. In the fall, the annual steamboat rally is held at Lee’s Mills, and during the winter, the Moultonboro Snowmobile Club maintains miles of trails for riding enjoyment.
