Additionally, the new Town website will be launched that will make the online user experience more seamless than ever! I’m thrilled to invite you all to join us in various Town events planned such as our Condo Question and Answer through Zoom on Tuesday, Dec. 5 at 5:30 p.m. hosted by Mayor Danzinger and the signature Winter Wonderland event on Sunday, Dec. 17 at 10 a.m. Let’s come together and create cherished memories as we welcome 2024. News From Town Hall SURFSIDE POLICE AND LOCAL CHARIT Y FOUNDER UNITE TO AID THE NEEDY IN HEARTWARMING “CRAM THE CRUISER” EVENT In a heartwarming display of community solidarity, Surfside Police, along with Elected Officials, collaborated with local non-profit organization Closet of Living Hope for the successful charity event, “Cram the Cruiser,” held on Saturday, Nov. 18. The event, which took place outside Surfside Town Hall, saw residents and neighboring communities coming together to make a positive impact on the lives of those in need. Participants, from the comfort of their vehicles, generously donated non-perishable food items and gently used clothing, which were loaded onto police cruisers for transport. Gently used clothing donations were directed to Closet of Living Hope, founded by Surfside Sergeant Marian Cruz, who expressed gratitude for the support. . The organization focuses on providing clothing assistance to individuals facing hardship, including victims of domestic violence. Simultaneously, non-perishable food items collected were destined for a local domestic violence shelter, ensuring support and sustenance for individuals and families in distress. News From Town Hall HARDING AVENUE DOWNTOWN DISTRICT IMPROVEMENTS FOR BETTER WALKABILIT Y From Public Works & Town Planner - The Town is working towards a series of phased improvements to Surfside’ s business district. Public Works recently cleaned and treated the sidewalks to reduce the potential for slipping. This is a temporary solution until the sidewalks can be fully renovated. The treatment adds friction aggregate to the walking surface. The Town is working with the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) to permit the partial sidewalk expansion approved by the Town Commission in June. The partial expansion is comprised of sixteen parking spaces. These spaces are now being delineated in preparation of their future use as part of the sidewalk and pedestrian space of downtown.

LEARN ABOUT CONDOMINIUM & MULTI-FAMILY BULK PICK-UP From Public Works - Bulk collection items are those items that are not disposed of in your regular commercial container. Bulk items include, but are not limited to: o Furniture o Mattresses and carpets and other large household items o Large and small appliances such as dishwashers, laundry machines, and stoves o Refrigerators Bulk items do not include contractor or condominium-generated material, such as landscaping or construction material, from a company you have hired. Construction material will not be collected by the Town. Condominium owners will be fined if it is discovered that such material was disposed of with the regular trash. Where to Place Bulk Items for Collection? Customers must call Town Hall and advise staff of what’s being put for pick-up. Customers must then notify their building’s property management staff letting them know that they spoke to a representative at Town Hall. Most property managers are aware of the process and will let their residents know where to place the bulk item for pick-up. Town staff will be made aware of what’s being put out for pick-up. Generally, bulk items are placed at or near the same location where your regular garbage is collected. Do not place bulk items near overhead obstructions, trees, mailboxes, or automobiles. Do not place bulk items inside commercial container. When Will Bulk Items Be Collected for Condos/Multi-Family? All bulk items should be placed out the night before the building’s designated regular trash collection day. Please note that hazardous material shouldn’t be placed in the regular trash. The Town designates a special drop-off day for this type of collection. Please check the Town calendar for updates on the annual hazardous waste drop off event in 2024. If you have any questions regarding the collection period or to schedule a pickup, please contact the Solid Waste Department at 305-861-4863.

News From Town Hall IMPORTANT NOTICE FOR SURFSIDE RESIDENTS: KEEP OUR SEWER SYSTEM FLOWING SMOOTHLY

GRASS CUTTINGS AND HEDGE TRIMMINGS

From Public Works - We all play a vital role in keeping Surfside clean and functional, and that includes taking care of our sewer system. To ensure the smooth operation of our wastewater infrastructure, we kindly ask everyone to remember two simple rules: 1. No Grease Down the Drain: Pouring grease, oil, or fats down the kitchen sink may seem convenient, but it can lead to clogs and backups in our sewer lines. Instead, let leftover cooking oil cool and then dispose of it in a sealed container in the trash. This small change can prevent major headaches down the line. 2. Avoid Flushing “Flushable” Wipes: Remember, “flushable” wipes may be convenient, but they do not break down like toilet paper. These wipes can clog pipes, damage pumps, and cause system failures. It’s best to dispose of them in the trash to avoid costly repairs and protect our environment. By following these guidelines, you’re not only protecting your home’s plumbing but also helping to maintain the health and functionality of Surfside’s sewer system. Let’s keep our town beautiful and our drains flowing smoothly. Thank you for your cooperation! For more information or questions, please contact our Public Works Department.

From Code Compliance - The Town’s trash collection schedule continues to be very convenient, as trash gets picked up five days a week. Solid waste staff also removes bulk, recycling, and vegetation debris. However, we remind you that all grass cuttings and hedge trimmings must be placed in plastic bags and securely tied before they are put out at the curbside for collection; please keep in mind that the limit is four cubic yards. If more than four cubic yards are placed at the curb, the town will charge a fee over the allowable limit. Additionally, please remind your gardeners that they must haul all vegetation cuttings and trimmings away from the Town. Below, find the solid waste schedule: • Monday/Tuesday: Vegetation debris (provided it was created by the property owner and not by a commercial landscaper). • Wednesday: Bulk. • Thursday: Recycling. We appreciate your cooperation and compliance.
