FAQ

Is my phone compatible with the Audi BLUETOOTH® system? Visit www.audiusa.com/bluetooth to check that your phone has been approved for use with the Audi BLUETOOTH® system in your particular vehicle model and model year. This database will also allow you to view which of your phone’s features are fully compatible with your BLUETOOTH® system. Please note that even compatible phones may have limitations, as noted in the database comments.

Tips

To allow for a clear conversation, ensure that the center air vents are not pointed upward during a phone conversation. If BLUETOOTH® connection is dropped or unsuccessful when linking to your BLUETOOTH® system again, turn your cell phone off/on before attempting again.

To have a private conversation, without other passengers in the vehicle hearing the call, is there a way to just use the handset?

Audi A3, TT, and R8

To have a private conversation, you must turn off the BLUETOOTH® connection from your phone. Access the BLUETOOTH® settings or connection options on your phone to turn off the BLUETOOTH® technology.2 Note: Some phones allow you to change the source from the phone while a call is active. A “Source” feature on the phone may show “Phone”, “Audi UHV” or “Audi MMI” and “Speakerphone” (from the handset). Simply choose “Phone” for a private conversation using the handset.

2  Observe all local and state laws regarding handset usage while driving.

BLUETOOTH® Technology Pairing Guide

Warning

Accidents and injuries can occur if the driver is distracted. Speaking on or using a phone while driving can distract the driver from traffic.  • Select the volume settings so that the acoustic signals from the outside are still audible (for example, the sirens of emergency rescue vehicles). Observe legal regulations.  • In areas with no or poor mobile network coverage and possibly in tunnels, garages and subways, phone conversations may be interrupted, and it may be impossible to make phone calls—even emergency calls. • In some countries, emergency calls may only be supported when the mobile phone is connected to a mobile phone package which has a SIM card that is “not blocked” and/ or has sufficient credit on it.  • Unmounted or improperly mounted mobile phones can fly around in the event of a sudden braking or driving maneuver or an accident. This may cause injuries.  • Never place or mount a mobile phone on doors, on the windshield or on or near the area on the steering wheel marked “AIRBAG,” the instrument panel, the seat back rests or the areas between these points and the driver/passengers. Mobile phones can lead to serious injuries in accidents, especially when the airbags are inflated.  • Always switch off your mobile telephone at gas stations or wherever there is a fire or explosion hazard. Electromagnetic radiation can cause sparks which can start fires.  • The mobile phone will automatically connect to the mobile network when the BLUETOOTH® connection to the mobile phone package is disconnected. Using a radio device in the vehicle without a connection to an external antenna might exceed electromagnetic radiation thresholds. This also applies if the external antenna is not installed properly.  • Keep a distance of at least eight inches between the antennas of the mobile phone and a pacemaker, since mobile phones can affect the functionality of a pacemaker.  • Do not carry a mobile phone on standby mode in the breast pocket directly on top of a pacemaker.  • If interference is suspected, immediately switch off the mobile phone.  • Always keep the armrest closed while driving. The center armrest can interfere with the driver’s elbow movement and thus cause accidents and severe injuries.  ©2012 Audi of America, Inc. “Audi,” “Truth in Engineering” and the four rings emblem are registered trademarks of AUDI AG. “BLUETOOTH” is a registered trademark of Bluetooth SIG, Inc. “iPhone” is a registered trademark of Apple Inc. How to Use This Guide

Popular Smartphone BLUETOOTH® Technology Preparation Instructions

BLUETOOTH® Technology Pairing Procedure1

Voice Dialing with Your BLUETOOTH® System

Determine which system is in your Audi:

Enable BLUETOOTH® Technology and Search for BlackBerry® • Turn on your BlackBerry® smartphone. • Choose Manage Connections icon. • Turn on the BLUETOOTH® technology. • Choose “Set Up BLUETOOTH®.” • Click “Search” to scan for your Audi BLUETOOTH® connection.

1. S witch on the ignition to the “Accessories” mode, and then turn on the Audi concert radio or Audi Navigation System plus (RNS-E).

Voice Dialing by Name

Important information for BlackBerry® when completing pairing process:

Note: It may take up to 30 seconds after switching on the ignition before the Audi device is detected on the phone.

• Audi concert radio

or

• Audi Navigation plus (Name appears on Display.)

Follow the set of pairing instructions for your Audi media system and phone. Note: This guide must be used in conjunction with the “Audi Navigation System plus (RNS-E)” manual or the “Audi concert radio operating instructions” manual included with your Audi Owner’s Manual materials. You acknowledge that you have read the warnings and information in the applicable manual and will use this guide to augment that material.

Pairing is a one-time procedure that you perform with each phone that you want to connect to the media system in your Audi. • Once you have paired your phone with the Audi media system in your vehicle, the two automatically connect when you start the vehicle (if you have the phone with you and its BLUETOOTH® technology is turned on). • When your phone is connected to the Audi media system in your vehicle, all calls are routed through the media system. • Once a call is connected through the Audi media system, you cannot turn off the system until the call is completed. • Your phone book syncs to the Audi media system, and you can make and receive calls through the system. You’ll find calling instructions on the reverse side of this guide. • Whenever you make or receive a call, the Audi media system in your vehicle mutes its audio program (e.g., radio, CD, MP3, etc.). • If you want to disconnect your phone from the Audi media system, find the procedure for linking your phone to your system at the right, follow the menu to access the BLUETOOTH® technology on your phone, and turn the BLUETOOTH® technology off. • To reconnect your phone to the Audi media system, simply follow the pairing instructions for your phone and your system at the right.

When pairing is successful, a prompt will appear on the BlackBerry® display to click “Yes” to begin the phone book synchronization. Also, place a check mark in the box for “Don’t ask again” to allow automatic pairing when you enter the car again with the BLUETOOTH® technology on.

Enable BLUETOOTH® Technology and Search for iPhone® • Turn on your iPhone®. • Choose Settings > General > BLUETOOTH®. • Choose “BLUETOOTH®” to turn it on. • Your system will immediately scan for your Audi BLUETOOTH® connection.

Enable BLUETOOTH® Technology and Search for Android® • Turn on your Android® smartphone. • Press the Menu key. • Choose Settings > Wireless & Networks > BLUETOOTH®. • Choose “BLUETOOTH®” to turn it on. • Choose “Scan for devices” to search for your Audi BLUETOOTH® connection.

Important information for Android® phone when completing pairing process: A BLUETOOTH® authorization request will appear on the display of the phone asking you to choose “Accept” to connect the phone book on the phone.

2. Place phone into “Pairing” mode to search for devices. 3. Choose “Audi UHV” when it appears on the device.

4. E nter the default PIN “1234” to complete the pairing. The phone book will synchronize when the pairing is complete.

Creating Name Tags on Your BLUETOOTH® System Voice name tags must be created and stored in the Audi concert radio prior to making calls using voice commands.

The beep sounds.

• Say, “Select name.” • After being prompted, say a name tag (e.g., “John” or “John Smith”). • Say, “Dial.” The phone number is dialed. Voice Dialing by Number • Press the “Talk” button on the multifunction steering wheel. The beep sounds.

• Say, “Dial number.” • When prompted, say the ten-digit phone number as single digits such as zero-one-seven-two. The system will repeat the number.

• Say, “Dial,” and the number will be dialed.

• Press the “Talk” button on the multifunction steering

Note: If you make a mistake saying a number, say, “Correction” or “Delete.” The system will ask to enter the number again and confirm. To end a call or cancel dialing, press the “End Call” control button on the radio control panel.

• Say, “Store name.” • When prompted, say the name tag you want to use

Tips: Speak naturally. Don’t shout, speak unusually fast or slow, or overemphasize words. Speak as though you are talking to a passenger.

• Repeat the name tag when prompted. • The system will then ask for a phone number to be associated with this tag.

• Enter the associated phone number into the system by following the prompts.

• When your entry is complete, say, “Store number.” • To confirm, say, “Play phone book” to hear all the saved name tags.

Also, place a check mark in the box for “Always” to allow for automatic synchronization when you enter the car again with the BLUETOOTH® technology on.

Guys you don’t Know

The future is here, but do you know who they are? Joel, Bonga, Colin . . . all names we know. But, as longboarding continues to move forward, so do the people. Longevity would like to introduce, 20 individuals you may not know . . . but should.

A 2002 graduate from Marina High School, The Artful Dodger recently took a semester off from college to surf as much as possible. He took off to Maui for awhile, sampling the gem we know as Honolua Bay. You can probably catch him cruising around Sano or maybe down in Mexico on the weekends. Wherever you see him, you'll feel the buzz in the air because Dodger can truly lighten anybody’s day. Already being a highly influential surfer, Dodger also blows minds in his other interests, including skateboarding, wakeboarding, shortboarding and his new interest, kiteboarding. He'll do anything to stay active, but he also knows the importance of getting a good education. Next semester, he'll be attending Mira Costa College and joining their already prestigious surf team. But for now you can spot him scoring points at surfing contests, popping up in video sections, and getting killer photos. Coming off of two NSSA Longboard Titles, last summer Dodger placed 1st in Juniors and 4th in Pro at the Toes on the Nose event in Costa Rica. Other recent accomplishments include 3rd in the PSTA event in Huntington Beach, 1st in the PSTA event at Morro Bay, and 4th in the Longboard Magazine contest at Imperial Beach. Dodger could go anywhere he wants to go, if he focuses hard enough. - Dave Roberts

Christmas Day came with wonderful conditions for those who could break away to enjoy them. Check out the shots online at www.eppicsurf.com/ourwave and find past sessions too.

Are y o u a seagull or a pelican? I Ask a Surfer

sit at the beach and observe a seagull that catches a piece of trash blowing in the wind. Before it can even check it over another seagull snatches it away. As a group of other seagulls see this, it creates a frenzy that goes on and on. A bunch of birds squawking and fighting over something that is absolutely useless. I watch a pelican swoop down with knowledge and grace to catch a fish. Calmly it eats its catch and then flies away. Each pelican, although traveling in a pack, is fishing on its own. When have you seen two pelicans fight over the same catch? The point of this? What can we learn as surfers from Mother Nature and Her simple way of explaining life? As a surfer, use your own knowledge, respect one another, and listen to the ocean. Learn to understand the ocean, her waves, and how she works. But most of all, SURF YOUR OWN GAME.

Some rules to help us all get along....

• Do not surf only where it is crowded ·• When surfing at Bolsa, a beach break with plenty of waves, there are many spots up and down the beach to choose from. Do everyone a favor and S P R E A D O U T !

• Do not paddle for a wave just because you see the surfer next to you going for it. • Do not purposely sit by a better surfer just because they are catching waves. But if you are surfing near others keep these tips in mind… • Sit outside, with the rest of the surfers, not slightly inside and in the way. • If you paddle for a wave and miss it Young unidentified looking very Pelican like. and there is a surfer next to you, give your neighbor the next wave, even though you are still on the inside. • Longboarders...your window for catching a wave is huge and you can paddle out quicker on the small days. If you do NOT take advantage of it, shortboarders may respect you for it. Remember, there are plenty of waves for everyone. • If you know how to get all the waves, give one up and make a friend, there is no need to hog. As the sport and hobby of surfing continues to expand its population we MUST change our ways in order for the spirit of surfing to remain in tact and the sanity of a surfer to remain peaceful. Thanks for listening and trying to do your part, it is all we ask…
