MANEY | GORDON Trial Lawyers veryone is trying to sell you. But you are not required to be sold.

be sold.

As customers and clients, we are truly up against a beast called “marketing”. This beast is created by experts raking in massive salaries to sell us. The truth is--as customers and clients and patients--we have the power to NOT be sold. We have the power to choose. We can demand more from our clothing companies that may otherwise use child labor, our food companies that may otherwise use cancerous ingredients, and even our law f irms that may use gimmick messages to attract clients.

Be inspired. Don’t just turn the tables. FLIP THEM OVER. Use the power to choose those companies which inspire you through better products, better services and better experiences. Those businesses that strive to make this world a better place for all of us. Because that is how we create positive change, and right the wrongs, and improve the quality of life. So do not be sold. Be inspired.

Life’s Balancing Act Sailing the Southeastern Caribbean for six years and living in countries where life is simpler allowed adventurer Scott Davis to understand and appreciate the true meaning of life. “When we think about significance and meaning, it all comes down to this: entropy has an eraser, and it’s going to erase any evidence that you existed,” Davis said during a recent interview. “The trick to the meaning of life is making it really hard for entropy to erase you.” In his enlightening new book, Surf the Seesaw: Unconventional Essays on Balance, Beauty, and Meaning in Life, Davis shares engaging stories from his existence off the beaten path. Each one reveals powerful truths about human nature, relationships, decision-making, parenting and the everpondered topic: the meaning of life. “I would say that I wrote the book with my children and grandchildren in mind,” Davis said. “With the idea of sharing a few handfuls of key concepts that when properly understood can transform a human lifetime into something spectacular — something with so many positive consequences that the universe’s norm of entropy will have a hard time erasing the evidence of the person’s existence.” When he was 30, Forbes called him one of the country’s most promising young corporate executives, but Davis stepped off the career treadmill to spend years exploring the world. His adventures led him to remote shores in the South Pacific,

the Atlantic and the Caribbean, where he faced many challenges, met many interesting people and saw many different models of meaningful living. Inspired by his life and adventures, Surf the Seesaw is a collection of 30 thoughtful essays contemplating key concepts that drive the world — the common theme being active balance — including: - Human nature and, in particular, common misconceptions about how the brain works - Relationships and how to cultivate healthy ones without losing oneself in the process - Decision-making and a few bad assumptions at the root of many regrettable choices - Positive parenting to raise amazing kids - The meaning of life and, specifically, how to create meaning in a universe dominated by chaos Each thought-provoking essay concludes with an invitation to put core concepts into action, so readers can work toward more effective behaviors. For anyone searching for lasting satisfaction and meaning in life, Surf the Seesaw offers the essential toolkit needed to create balance, accountability and greater happiness. Tripti Kandari of Foreword Reviews had this to say: “Featuring inspiring personal stories, Surf the Seesaw is an informative self-help work filled with recommendations for attaining personal balance in the face of perennial challenges.”

END OF SUMMER BEAUTY & WELLNESS TIPS By Omayra La Bella

The summer is about to end.

Although I do prefer to think my summer season lasts until late September, it seems like summer ends around Labor Day weekend. The back-to-school season is in full swing, and all the summer vacations are now over. The Fall season brings about internal thoughts of transition, it makes me feel as though I need to develop fresh routines and behaviors. Again, this is probably because we are all accustomed to returning to school, demanding we get back to a regular schedule and it has become the norm. Our routines change throughout the year, something I started to notice when I developed my beauty and wellness regime around the development of habits. To develop and maintain a healthy lifestyle, it is crucial to stick to daily routines and habits, but it is also crucial to change them up according to the seasons. Every season, I have discovered, can cause schedules to change, including those for kids with sports and classes, our job schedules, wake-up and sleep times, exercise routines, and meals. Our entire beauty regimens have been turned upside down during the last few 20 | TAMPASTYLEMAGAZINE.COM

summer months. With all the humidity, all I needed was a light moisturizer instead of the healing serum I usually use before it. My face would become oily if I used too many products. Now that September has arrived, the weather is beginning to change a little bit, and I have noticed that my skin is starting to get a little bit dryer. It shows that it is time to resume using face oils and serums. I try to concentrate on items that heal my skin and my hair throughout this seasonal transition. I spent a lot of time outside during the summer, which resulted in my skin needing oxidative repair and hair that has been damaged by exposure to UV rays. We need to change our skin care regimen, just like you would when switching from sandals to boots in the fall. Here are some methods for achieving it: 1. Exfoliate your skin to remove

dead cells that have accumulated due to summer damage. Exfoliating your body and face will help get rid of the dry, dead skin from the summer and give you a more youthful appearance.

2. Moisturize and hydrate your skin. You should switch up your eye

creams for puffiness and dryness, stronger moisturizers, and Vitamin C complexes according to the season. To give your skin an extra boost if you are seeing dryness, you can apply a moisturizer that is a little bit thicker or creamier. Cleansing your complexion should be a regular ritual. To add more ingredients to your skin while you sleep, you can also consider applying a serum. It is critical to keep track of what works and what does not, as well as which items your skin responds to positively or negatively, because your skin can eventually develop a resistance to specific products.

3. Apply SPF. Sunscreen should be

worn all year long, regardless of the weather, not only when you go to the beach, as it will protect your skin from the sun's harmful rays. Continue applying SPF under your makeup and to any exposed skin regions because UV damage can occur even when there is cloud cover. At the very least SPF 15 is advised.

HEALTH & BEAUTY

2. Start a new nightly routine.

As we move from summer to fall, I still want to keep my beauty routine simple. I really enjoy keeping a healthy glow and tan throughout the year. I employ a couple of tools for this: I adore applying sunless tanning lotion to keep my skin moisturized and bronzed. To keep my face appearing bronzed and beautiful, I also enjoy using tanning drops into my moisturizer.

4. Engage with a professional medical esthetician. Try expert

cosmetic procedures like chemical peels or microdermabrasion, to truly give your skin a fresh start and a healthy glow. To minimize fine lines and wrinkles without causing any pain, microdermabrasion removes the top layers of skin. Chemical peels help to restore collagen by exfoliating the skin and promoting the creation of new cells. Microdermabrasion and chemical peeling might enhance each other's effectiveness.

This summer, if you went outside without wearing full sun protection, there is a good chance that you will have sun damage. Freckles, dark tans, and leathery or wrinkled skin, are all examples of sun damage. A medical aesthetician can collaborate with you to create a customized skin care plan if you are unsure of what to try. They are fully aware of how to preserve or enhance the condition of the skin. You might feel that you need a little bit more coverage than your light tinted moisturizer as we move from summer to fall. My preferred method is to use a blender sponge to blend concealer around my t-zone and tinted moisturizer wherever I intend to apply it.

I highly recommend my go to for all my skincare needs, “Innata - Inspired by Omayra La Bella” for all natural products for types of skin. Like spring, fall is a month of transition. This time of year aids in the change from summer to winter and from warm to chilly. It is time to start dressing in layers, start going to bed earlier, and setting up a more regular schedule. It is a clever idea to start adjusting not only your skin care regime, but also your daily routine and getting ready for the new season. 1. Start a new morning routine.

I start evaluating the items that are currently a part of my routine currently. I consider when I get up, how much time I have right now in the morning, and what I have been doing with it. I begin to make a list of the things that are and are not working. I then begin to brainstorm ways to improve my morning routine such as practicing meditation and exercising. I also think of ways to improve and simplify my morning routine such as laying out my gym attire the night before, scheduling my workouts in advance, and meal prepping for the week.

I used to not have a regular evening schedule. I would wash my face and teeth after dinner, watch a show, set an alarm, and go to bed. I developed a bedtime routine this summer. I needed to change my routine at night to feel better the following day. I turned off all electronics at 9 o'clock, took care of my nightly beauty maintenance, and read. In addition, I started taking post-dinner walks rather than collapsing on the couch and watching TV. Having a nightly regimen does improve your mornings. It helps with unwinding and preparing for the next day. 3. Get organized!

You should have a solid sense of what lies in store for the fall season by now. Now is a wonderful time to start organizing your schedule and daily activities. Getting organized now will help you be more prepared for fall. I enjoy making a calendar for my workouts, housework, grocery shopping, food preparation, work, and other activities. One of my favorite things to plan is my weekly beauty and wellness maintenance, a must have!!! 4. Declutter!

At the conclusion of one season and the start of a new one, I enjoy getting rid of clutter. I am trying to do a better job of removing stuff from my closet, rotating my wardrobe, and maintaining my home. Before you start cleaning up your space, you may not be aware of how much stuff you have accumulated in a matter of months. This is a fantastic way to begin the new season of autumn. Do not be scared to get rid of items that make you unhappy. Also feel free to organize and reorganize your home's contents. Change is in the air this fall, so do not be afraid to adjust! How are you adjusting to September after the summer? I am ready to dress in those cute fall outfits and to start drinking pumpkin spice lattes!

UNLEASHING THE ARTISTRY Plating Styles: A Visual Symphony on the Plate Plating styles are the brushstrokes that chefs use to compose culinary masterpieces. From classic elegance to avant-garde innovation, each style has its own unique allure. Minimalist plating emphasizes clean lines and simplicity, allowing the beauty of the ingredients to shine through. On the other end of the spectrum, avant-garde presentations challenge conventions, playing with unconventional shapes, textures, and arrangements that push the boundaries of culinary art. Colors and Contrasts: A Feast for the Eyes Just as a painter selects the perfect palette, chefs harness the power of colors and contrasts to create visually striking dishes. Vibrant hues and complementary shades are strategically arranged, drawing the eye and evoking emotions. A splash of vibrant red against a bed of fresh greens or a delicate drizzle of golden sauce can elevate a dish from ordinary to extraordinary, captivating diners before the first bite. Textures and Layers: Adding Depth to Delight Texture adds another dimension to the sensory experience of a dish. The interplay of crunch, creaminess, smoothness, and velvety textures adds depth and complexity. Skillful layering of components, such as a crispy tuile atop a silky mousse or a delicate foam floating atop a rich broth, creates a visually enticing landscape that promises a symphony of flavors. Edible Garnishes: Nature’s Artistic Touch Edible garnishes serve as the final brushstrokes, adding the finishing touches to a culinary masterpiece. Microgreens, edible flowers, herb sprigs, and meticulously carved fruit sculptures enhance both the visual appeal and flavor profile of a dish. These artful adornments bring a touch

of elegance and harmony, seamlessly blending nature’s beauty with the chef ’s creative vision. Utensil and Tableware Selection: Where Function Meets Aesthetics The choice of utensils, plates, and serving vessels plays a vital role in the presentation of a dish. Chefs carefully select tableware that complements their creations, ensuring that every element on the plate harmonizes with the overall aesthetic. Sleek and modern tableware can amplify the visual impact of a contemporary dish, while vintage-inspired plates can evoke a sense of nostalgia or add a touch of rustic charm. Interactive and Unexpected Presentations: Engaging the Senses To create truly memorable dining experiences, some chefs embrace interactive and unexpected presentations. Diners may be presented with dishes that require their participation, such as assembling their own creations from an array of components or interacting with edible elements that surprise and delight the senses. These playful presentations foster a deeper connection between the diner and the culinary art, turning the meal into an immersive and interactive journey. Beyond taste and flavor, creative food presentation techniques have transformed dining into a multisensory adventure. The artistry and craftsmanship displayed on each plate captivate diners, elevating their culinary experiences to new heights. As chefs continue to push the boundaries of culinary aesthetics, the world of gastronomy becomes a canvas where flavors and visuals converge, leaving a lasting impression on all who partake in this culinary art form. Remember, when it comes to the art of food presentation, beauty truly lies in the eyes—and taste buds—of the beholder.

THE ARTS

Discover the Intricate Beauty of “Floating World” at Imagine Museum in St. Petersburg Step into a world where ethereal beauty meets profound introspection at the Imagine Museum’s latest exhibition, “Floating World,” showcasing the exceptional artistry of Karen LaMonte. Drawing inspiration from the Japanese concept of Ukiyo, which translates to the “Floating World,” LaMonte’s sculptures, drawings, and installations evoke a mesmerizing blend of beauty and transience. This must-see exhibit explores the Japanese cultural themes of Ukiyo while delving into the intricate symbolism of kimonos as carriers of unspoken narratives. At the heart of the exhibit lies the concept of Ukiyo, the Edo-era Japanese term that refers to both the “Floating World” of pleasure districts and the “Sorrowful World” of earthly existence. LaMonte masterfully weaves these dual meanings together, creating a dialogue between beauty and the fleeting nature of life itself. The exhibition takes visitors on a captivating journey through the dichotomies of joy and sorrow, indulgence and impermanence.

The artist’s fascination with the kimono’s symbolism and significance comes to life in her sculptural works. Every fold, seam, and fabric choice becomes a narrative thread that intertwines the wearer’s identity, societal norms, and personal expressions. The intricate details of her sculptures breathe life into the garments, resonating with stories waiting to be uncovered. But it’s not just the visual beauty that captures the viewer’s attention; it’s also the materiality. LaMonte’s choice of materials isn’t arbitrary; it’s deliberate. Glass, iron, ceramics, and bronze become vehicles for her artistic expression. Each material’s inherent qualities contribute to the layers of meaning embedded within her art. By crafting her sculptures with intention, LaMonte invites viewers to reflect on the profound connections between the tangible and the conceptual. LaMonte’s sculptures, with their meticulous details and implied human forms, challenge

viewers to contemplate the boundaries of identity and society. Her sculptures capture a moment, a feeling, and an essence—making the fleeting eternal. “Floating World” at the Imagine Museum is an invitation to delve into the depths of Ukiyo and explore the intricacies of the kimono’s symbolic language. By immersing yourself in Karen LaMonte’s art, you’ll discover the profound connections between materiality, emotion, and cultural expression. This exhibition isn’t just a display of beautiful sculptures; it’s a journey through the human experience itself. The exhibition is open now at the Imagine Museum in St. Petersburg, FL. Don’t miss the opportunity to be enchanted by the “Floating World” and experience Karen LaMonte’s remarkable creations that bridge the gap between beauty and transience.

From playful accessories to polished elegance, these trends offer a range of options to suit every personality and occasion. Get ready to transform your look with these trending hairstyles for fall.

Bows! Nothing adds a touch of whimsy and femininity quite like bows in hair. This fall, oversized bows are making a statement, while delicate, smaller bows bring subtle elegance to any hairstyle. For a playful and youthful look, opt for a voluminous high ponytail with a big satin bow placed at the base. This style works well for both casual outings and formal events. To keep it chic and sophisticated, use a small velvet bow to adorn a half-up hairstyle or to add a dainty touch to a low bun. Bows in hair effortlessly elevate any look and are a delightful way to embrace the spirit of the season.

Sleek Ponytails! A timeless hairstyle that never goes out of fashion, the sleek ponytail is making a bold comeback this fall. It’s all about achieving a sophisticated and polished look. Start by using a fine-tooth comb to smooth out any bumps or flyaways, then gather your hair into a sleek and high or mid-level ponytail. Secure it with a hair tie, and for added polish, wrap a small section of hair around the base to conceal the elastic. This creates a seamless and refined finish. For an extra touch of elegance, wrap a satin ribbon around the base of the ponytail and tie it into a bow. This simple addition adds a touch of glamour and gives your ponytail a fashionable upgrade.

Choppy Bangs! Bangs are a versatile way to transform your hairstyle, and this fall, choppy bangs are stealing the show. This style adds a touch of edginess and frames the face beautifully. Choppy bangs are characterized by their textured and slightly uneven appearance, providing a modern and effortless look. Pair them with loose waves or a tousled bob for a casual and relaxed vibe. To style, use a texturizing spray or a small amount of pomade to define the individual strands of the bangs. The goal is to create a soft and slightly messy finish that exudes confidence and personality. Whether you opt for long or short choppy bangs, this trend offers a versatile and bold hairstyle choice for fall. This fall, hair trends offer a variety of options to suit your style and mood. From playful bows in hair to sleek ponytails and edgy choppy bangs, these hairstyles allow you to express your individuality and embrace the spirit of the season. So, why not elevate your look and try something new this fall? Whether you’re attending a casual gathering or a formal event, these trending hairstyles will ensure you turn heads with your chic and fashion-forward appearance. CELEBRITY SOUP

Celebrities Who Have Never Married By Riesa Pascal Some famous folk have practically made a career out of marrying and divorcing different partners while others seem to have no intention of ever walking down the aisle and exchanging “I dos.” With the media so often saturated with the former, let’s take a refreshing look at some stars who have never gotten around to tying the knot whether they believe in the institution of marriage or not.

38 | STYLETOME.COM

CELEBRITY SOUP

Al Pacino, 83 He may be a father, but Al Pacino has no plans of being a husband. The Godfather star has been in numerous relationships, but none that kept him from walking away whenever there was talk about marriage. He has shared his dislike for the legalities of marriage in interviews saying, “I hate to say this, but marriage is a state of mind, not a contract.” Diane Keaton, 77 One of Pacino’s longtime girlfriends was actress Diane Keaton who has also never been married. The two first met on the set of The Godfather, but their relationship ended after The Godfather Part III when Keaton gave Pacino a marriage ultimatum. It seems Keaton has since had a change of heart as she is now content with her single life and openly expressed her desire to remain independent while admitting it’s “highly unlikely” that she would ever date again.

Matthew Perry, 53 His Friends alter ego may have gotten married to the love of his life on the show, but Matthew “Chandler Bing” Perry has never actually tied the knot in real life. Perry has been in many highprofile relationships and was even engaged some years ago, but never made it down the aisle. He opened up to Diane Sawyer about fears that led him to continually break up with “funny, smart, wonderful” women saying, “It was a combination of feeling like I wasn’t enough, feeling like I was needy, feeling like I didn’t matter.” Sheryl Crow, 61 Musician Sheryl Crow has never said “I do,” but came pretty darn close to it three times in her life! The “Soak up the Sun” singer has been romantically linked to Eric Clapton, Owen Wilson and Lance Armstrong over the years, but doesn’t regret never getting married and has openly thanked God for stopping her journey down the aisle.

Leonardo DiCaprio, 48 Despite being a superstar actor and a ladies man, Leonardo DiCaprio has (perhaps unsurprisingly) never been married. At 48, he is still very much a bachelor and has spoken about marriage in past interviews saying, “The truth is, you can’t predict marriage. You can’t plan it. It’s just going to happen when it happens.” While that may be true, one thing that can be predicted is DiCaprio’s dating life as he is notorious for almost exclusively dating much younger models.

Owen Wilson, 54 Perhaps some of Crow’s independence rubbed off on her ex-boyfriends, because Owen Wilson has also never been married although he was once engaged to Kate Hudson in 2008. The comedian and actor is a father to three children though he is not in a relationship with any of his children’s mothers. In spite of his bachelor lifestyle, Wilson turned heads on screen last year as he starred opposite Jennifer Lopez in the ironically titled rom-com Marry Me.

Winona Ryder, 51 Although Winona Ryder has never been married, she almost didn’t make the list as she was once engaged to Johnny Depp in the 90s. Perhaps a more appropriate—albeit bizarre—reason for not making the list would be the fact that Ryder believes she “accidentally” tied the knot with Keanu Reeves three decades ago and may still be married under the eyes of God! It all happened while filming a wedding scene in Bram Stoker’s Dracula back in ’92 which required the actors to have a wedding ceremony in front of a real Romanian priest… oops!

Oprah Winfrey, 69 Famed talk show host and media mogul Oprah Winfrey has never been married, but has been in a committed relationship with businessman Stedman Graham for nearly 40 years. Graham did propose to Winfrey during that time and although she initially said yes, she eventually realized that she didn’t actually want marriage… she only wanted to be asked. In an interview with Vogue, Winfrey discussed what would have happened if she actually got married saying, “We wouldn’t be together. We would not have stayed together, because marriage requires a different way of being in this world.”

THE TAJ MAHAL Tourist trap or set of the world’s greatest love story?

40 | STYLETOME.COM

TRAVEL OUT ‘N ‘NABOUT STYLE

The Taj Mahal may be hailed as one of the seven wonders of the world, but for people like me who swoon over a good romcom, it’s the set of one of the world’s greatest love stories If there’s one place on Earth that’s always been on the top of my travel bucket list, it’s India. So in January 2023, when India’s online e-visa system became available once again to foreigners after being suspended during the pandemic, I finally made the pilgrimage. I’d always hailed the Taj Mahal, based in the city of Agra in the State of Uttar Pradesh, as a must-do, but suddenly I had my doubts. Would it be as impressive in person? Would it be overwhelmingly overcrowded? Ultimately, was it worth it?

– my guide – led me to the South entrance. He stopped in front of the looming sandstone gateway to tell the epic story of the Taj Mahal. Built between 1631-1653 on the banks of the Yamuna River, the Taj Mahal was the brainchild of the Mughal Emperor, Shah Jahan. Though he married three times, Shah Jahan’s one true love was Mumtaz Mahal, his third wife.

I’d been warned that Agra itself is nothing special, so planned an overnight stay, followed by a visit to the Taj Mahal the next morning, before heading off to Jaipur.

Coral Court’s comforting, familystyle dinner provided relief from the bustling, narrow streets of Agra. The hosts kindly booked us an official English-speaking guide, for which we paid 1,500 rupees, on top of the entrance fee which is currently 1,100 rupees for foreigners. An epic love story After moving quickly through security and the ticket queue, where I received bottled water and shoe covers, Vishal

However, his plans were thwarted in 1658 when he was deposed by his son Aurangzeb and imprisoned for the rest of his life in Agra Fort, where he looked out at the Taj Mahal every day through a single window. Years later when he died, his daughter buried him in a tragically off-centre tomb next to his wife. Despite this slight imperfection, the Taj Mahal – and the equally ornate mosques and gardens surrounding it – was truly breathtaking.

Navigating Agra

Despite this, I was delighted to discover the charming Coral Court Homestay, where I was greeted with smiles and steaming cups of chai. The room was clean and simple, decorated with handmade textiles and a heater for the chilly winter nights.

Shah Jahan’s mission for the entire Taj Mahal complex was to create absolute symmetry – in fact, legend says he intended to build another mausoleum (made of black marble) directly across the river to house his own remains.

So, is the Taj Mahal worth it?

After she died in childbirth, he dedicated 22 years of his life to building a mausoleum for her tomb, topped by a dome of shining white marble that gradually alters in color as the daylight changes. I’d seen plenty of pictures of the Taj Mahal, but what struck me was the incredible level of detail close-up, from metallic geometric patterns to delicate Arabic calligraphy, to slabs of marble embedded with precious gems and floral motifs.

Absolutely. The Taj Mahal may be hailed as one of the seven wonders of the world, but for people like me who swoon over a good romcom, it’s the set of one of the world’s greatest love stories. It’s the site of a romance that has continued long past Shah Jahan’s death – to this day, the Taj Mahal shuts every Friday so local craftsmen can conserve its beauty. In a country that fills your senses to the brim with noise, colors and smells, the Taj Mahal is a welcome break of enchanting stories and serenity.

It’s said that over 20,000 workers were employed from India, Persia, the Ottoman Empire and Europe to complete the ultimate labour of love.

EMBRACING FALL FASHION

Fall Fashion Trends for Effortless Style

As the crisp autumn breeze begins to sweep across the city, it’s time to bid farewell to summer outfits and welcome a new wave of fashion trends. This season, fashionistas are turning to dark coats, the renowned “French girl uniform,” and glamorous night-on-the-town ensembles for their stylish fix. Let’s delve into these captivating fall fashion trends that are set to dominate the streets. Dark Coats: An Ode to Sophistication As the leaves change color, so does our wardrobe palette. This fall, dark coats are reclaiming the spotlight, exuding timeless sophistication. Think tailored black trench coats, oversized charcoal pea coats, or luxurious deep-navy wool jackets. Not only do these dark outerwear pieces provide warmth and protection against the elements, but they also serve as versatile statement pieces that effortlessly elevate any ensemble. The French Girl Uniform: An Effortless Elegance The French girl uniform has long been hailed as the epitome of understated elegance. It’s a simple yet chic combination of a button-up white top paired with either denim jeans or tailored slacks. This fall, this quintessential ensemble takes center stage, resonating with its minimalist charm. LIGHT OVERCOATS

Dressing for the fall season in Florida When it comes to fall fashion trends for men’s style, it’s essential to consider regional variations, such as the warmth that Florida experiences during autumn. Embracing the mild climate, one key piece that stands out is the light overcoat. Opt for thinner fabrics and breathable materials that provide just the right amount of coverage without weighing you down. Look for tailored silhouettes in neutral tones like camel, gray, or navy, which exude timeless elegance while keeping you comfortable in the Florida heat. Incorporating layering techniques can still be achieved in a way that accommodates the

warmer climate. Instead of heavy sweaters, opt for lightweight cardigans or linen shirts. Combine them with a simple t-shirt or a well-fitted button-up for a polished yet breathable look. Pair these with slimfit chinos or lightweight denim jeans to complete the ensemble.Accessorizing plays a crucial role in achieving a well-rounded fall outfit. Consider adding a patterned scarf made from lightweight materials, like cotton or silk, to add a touch of style without adding unnecessary warmth. Finish off the look with classic leather loafers or canvas sneakers, which provide both comfort and sophistication.

TOYS

PUSHING

THE LIMITS

SF90 XX STRADALE & SF90 XX SPIDER

60 | STYLETOME.COM

TOYS

THE SF90 XX STRADALE REMAINS A ROAD CAR, BUT WITH ALL THE VISUAL DRAMA AND ENGINEERING SMARTS OF A CIRCUIT-BRED RACER. One of the great strengths at Ferrari is the unprecedented synergy that exists between Centro Stile and aerodynamics. Combine this hard-won relationship with the fact that at Maranello all development departments are located mere meters from each other, and you start to understand Ferrari’s ability to make the world’s most beautiful cars without any compromise in performance. Two new Prancing Horses – the new Ferrari SF90 XX Stradale and the Ferrari SF90 XX Spider – prove it can be done. They represent the most extreme versions of the SF90 Stradale, itself a car that pushes performance, vehicle dynamics and aero to the limit. Anyone who’s been fortunate enough to drive one – especially on a circuit – may wonder what more could possibly be extracted. Answer: a lot. More power, more aerodynamic downforce, more driver interactivity, more technology. The SF90 XX Stradale remains a road car, but with all the visual drama and engineering smarts of a circuit-bred racer. As well as channeling F1 and GT racing know-how, it’s also the product of Ferrari’s long-established track-focused customer XX Programme. It’s a symphony of air intakes, ducts, diffusers and perhaps most of all wings. The rear has a new ‘long tail’ profile and is characterised by its ‘trimaran’ design. Its multi-layered configuration emphasises the car’s width and stance. There are more imposing rear vents behind the wheels, and two central exhausts. The intakes for the turbos’ intercoolers are bigger too, and channel the air even more efficiently. But the layer that will fuel a million Internet searches is the huge fixed rear wing, the first to be seen on a road-legal Ferrari since 1995’s now iconic F50. Rather than the SF90 Stradale’s twin tail-lights, the SF90 XX Stradale features a light bar. And there’s

another ‘blown’ spoiler, similar to the one on the existing car, which works in tandem with an active aero concept called a Gurney shut-off. The new wing’s shape was influenced by the need to manage the so-called pressure field created by the way the wing interacts with the smaller shut-off wing. There are two configurations: LD (Low Drag) which minimises drag for greater straight-line performance, and HD (High Downforce), which does what it says, generating 315 kg of downforce at 250 km/h, to deliver unparalleled cornering speed and stability. The front wing retains an arrow shape, but two new vertical wing profiles give the car an even more geometric look. There are new lower wings that appear to float within the air intakes. The new car’s lower section features an increased use of carbon fibre, emphasising its highly technical character. There’s also a new front splitter, larger than the one on the SF90 Stradale, which generates a highly energetic flow of air under the car. The SF90 XX Stradale’s underbody – crucial to its aerodynamic capability – has also been substantially redesigned. That’s not easy to see for obvious reasons, but more visible are new S-ducts either side of the bonnet vents and louvres on the front wheelarch, which clean up turbulent air and improve the amount of downforce over the front wheels. This is all highly scientific, but ultimately it’s about delivering harmony and consistency of response for the person behind the wheel. These two principles also apply to the SF90 XX Stradale’s reworked hybrid powertrain. The 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 produces 797 cv at 7,900 rpm, but as before it’s emboldened by the addition of three electric motors, two on the front axle, the third positioned between the engine and gearbox at the rear. These add a further 233 cv. The maximum power output is now 1,030 cv, 30 more than on the SF90

Stradale, an increase achieved by optimising the exhaust system and machining the combustion chamber. Ferrari’s mastery of software and the seamlessness of the SF90 Stradale’s regenerative braking and the handover between the electric front axle, eight-speed dual shift gearbox, the rear electric motor and the combustion V8 engine reaches a new peak in the SF90 XX Stradale. The Ferrari Dynamic Enhancer 2.0 and ABS EVO controller both make their debut in the new car, enhancing its stability under high-speed braking and turnin, while Torque Vectoring and electronic Side Slip Control 1.0 ensure that even with 1,030 cv the SF90 XX Stradale remains approachable and easy to handle on the limit. A new patented control logic in the ‘Qualifying mode’ on the eManettino, the extra boost, provides an additional power boost worth 0.25 seconds on a lap around Fiorano. The friction braking system has also been upgraded with larger rear brake discs and redesigned pads. Ever alert to the need for sonic entertainment, Ferrari’s engineers have used new materials and reworked the engine to maximise the V8’s harmonics, particularly in the mid-range. And of course, it is here that the SF90 XX Spider comes into its own, with the Retractable Hard Top able to deploy at 45km/h to unleash that V8 orchestra. Interior changes and new materials underline the SF90 XX Stradale and SF90 XX Spider’s hallowed place in Ferrari’s more hardcore supercar bloodline, which sees it follow the likes of the 488 Pista and 812 Competizione. This is a limited series car, with just 799 SF90 XX Stradales and only 599 Spiders available. The SF90 XX Stradale sits at the nexus of art, engineering and technology. But it’s also more free-spirited than ever.

Tips To Relieve Stress By Natalie Smith

Life would be easier if we all had a magic wand to wipe away our obstacles, stress, fear, anxiety and any elements that cause us to feel down. We all want that wish to come true, but in reality we have to face our life path everyday. It doesn’t matter who you are or what status you hold. We all go through our ups, and downs. Stress will make its appearance constantly. Good news, we can learn how to control it instead of it controlling us. Here are some simple tips to improve your well-being that you can make them to become your routine:

One way to do this may be to say “no” more often. This is especially true if you find yourself taking on more than you can handle, because juggling many responsibilities may leave you feeling overloaded. Being selective about what you take on — and saying “no” to things that will unnecessarily add to your load — can reduce your stress levels. 4. Try this 4-7-8 breathing exercise.

Engaging in present-focused awareness and what is happening right now is effective for managing strong emotions.

Deep breathing is a quick and easy way to deal with in-the-moment stress and it can even change the chemistry of your body and mind. Count from 1-7 with deep inhale and exhale, following this step at your own pace.

2. Label your stress.

5. Practice self-care

Yes, you read it right. Labeling your stress can change the way you respond to it. Specifically, “labeling helps us externalize the stressor,” according to WH advisor Dr. Carmichael. Furthermore, locating the burden of stress on a situation helps make sure that you’re not “merging the stress with the self,” she explains. Or else, the stressor “can actually start to become us, or the fabric of ourselves.”

Setting aside time to practice self-care may help reduce your stress levels. Practical examples include:

1. Focus on what you can control.

3. Create boundaries and learn to say no.

We know that not all stressors are within your control, but some are. Putting too much on your plate may increase your stress load and limit the amount of time you can spend on self-care.

HOW DO I FIND A LAWYER? Florida has more than 85,000 licensed lawyers practicing in the state. How do you know which one is right for you? First, make sure the person you are

considering hiring is an attorney. You can do this by going to The Florida Bar website at www.floridabar.org. If you have questions, call membership records at The Florida Bar at 850-561-5832. If you believe the person is not an attorney but is claiming to be one, call The Florida Bar Unlicensed Practice of Law Department at 850-561-5840. Make a careful search for your lawyer; it’s an important decision. Your goal should be to find a lawyer you are comfortable with as a person and as a professional. Many legal matters involve personal considerations, and your lawyer often will need to know confidential information about you, your family and your finances to be truly effective in serving you. In your preliminary research, you should focus on compiling a list of the names of lawyers who may be qualified to handle your case. Your ‘follow-up’ research will include making phone calls to those lawyers’ offices then visiting one or a few to find the attorney you want to handle your case. To begin, consider a lawyer’s reputation. Have you heard people speak highly of a particular attorney’s talents or work? Think about your acquaintances who are, or may know, lawyers. Ask those who work with attorneys in their profession, or someone whose opinion you respect — an employer, lawyer at your workplace, banker, teacher, minister, doctor or other professional, relative, neighbor or friend. The best recommendations often come from people who hired a lawyer to successfully resolve a problem similar to yours.

Special Promotional Feature

Another check you can do is to see if the attorney has a discipline history — meaning the person has received a professional discipline for violating the Rules Regulating The Florida Bar. You can find out this information by going to the attorney’s profile page on The Florida Bar website. Once the attorney’s page appears, scroll down until you see the words: ‘10-Year Discipline History.’ If there is no discipline, the word ‘None’ will appear to the right of the name. If there is a history, the word ‘Yes’ will appear, with a link to documents regarding the discipline. You can use that information to ask the attorney about this episode. You also may call 866-352-0707 and follow the prompts to check a lawyer’s discipline history. A new and growing development in Florida and other states is the prepaid legal services plan. Through a prepaid legal program, an individual or group pays a premium, something like health insurance, to receive such services as free consultations and advice, with prescribed fees for follow-up services. Before hiring an attorney or before you even think you might need one, you should check to see if your employer, union or other organization of which you are a member offers a prepaid legal service plan as a benefit. Most areas in Florida also have legal aid and public defender offices, which provide legal help without cost or at a nominal fee to people who cannot afford to pay a lawyer. Legal aid offices provide advice in some non-criminal cases such as those relating to small money claims for wages; disputes between borrowers and lenders; landlord-tenant problems; and domestic relations matters. Public defender offices handle criminal cases for indigent people.

A potential client also can use regional, state or national directories of lawyers and law firms, some containing detailed biographical information and client listings. These volumes — some specially produced for consumer education, and others used by lawyers to identify attorneys in other localities — often can be found in public libraries. Lists of recommended attorneys are also circulated within special interest groups. Aside from this information, some lawyers are now using consumer advertising on radio, television, newspapers, magazines, in other media and on the web to inform the public of their services and charges for certain routine legal matters.

Comment: Tampa Style Magazine has received lawyer recommendations from many peers and our readers. The results are presented in the following list and in addition, several professionals have taken the opportunity to present their experiences and profiles to you in the following special feature.

SHANNON McLIN Your Lawyer’s Lawyer Appellate law is complex. It is a highly technical area of practice that requires experienced appellate counsel. Countless and common pitfalls can hopelessly entangle or bar a party from ever being able to pursue a necessary appeal. Shannon McLin (pronounced “MACK-lin”) is an expert in appellate law— one of only 195 lawyers who have earned Florida Bar board certification in appellate practice. She is the founder of Florida Appeals, a statewide appellate law firm with offices in Tampa and throughout Florida. During her first legal research and writing class, McLin immediately knew she wanted to be an appellate lawyer. After graduation, she served as an appellate law clerk at Florida’s Fifth District Court of Appeal. During her four years there, she was afforded an insider’s education on the expectations of Florida’s appellate courts. In 1997, she left the court to be a stay-at-home mom, but her love of appellate law kept calling her. What began in a 4 by 8-foot space behind a curtain in her family room grew into a seven-lawyer firm with multiple offices. During her 21-year tenure at the appellate firm she founded, she built a resume that is expressive of her passion for appellate law and the clients she represents. McLin has worked hard to earn numerous legal accolades. She has consistently been named one of Florida Trend’s Florida Legal Elite and as a Florida Super Lawyer in appellate practice, and was honored to be among the Florida Super Lawyers’ list of Florida’s Top 50 Women Lawyers.

“One of my favorite aspects of practicing appellate law is having the opportunity to work with some of the best lawyers in Florida on complex legal matters,” said McLin. “The comradery of being part of their team and working together to assist our mutual client is truly satisfying.” Through years of experience, McLin has solidified her reputation as “the lawyer’s lawyer.” Learn more about her experienced team of appellate lawyers at FloridaAppeals.com.

After more than 20 years of growing and grooming her former firm, McLin was ready for a new endeavor and Florida Appeals was born. With offices in Tampa, Orlando, Ft. Lauderdale, and The Villages and lawyers and support staff across the country, Florida Appeals is an experienced team of appellate professionals including former trial and appellate judges and law clerks. The lawyers of Florida Appeals strive to provide excellent representation by combining their knowledge and experience, carefully crafting strong appellate arguments and sitting second chair at trial to help ensure that issues are preserved for appeal. Trial lawyers bring McLin and her team on board during litigation when they believe appeals are likely.
