IRON GWAZI

THE BEAST AWAKENS MARCH 11 Just in time for spring break, Iron Gwazi, North America’s tallest and the fastest and steepest hybrid coaster in the world, will officially open on March 11. Pass holders will have exclusive opportunities to ride starting February 13! Iron Gwazi takes thrills to new heights, plunging riders from a 206 foot-tall peak into a 91-degree drop and reaching top speeds of 76 miles per hour. Riders on Iron Gwazi will experience a dozen airtime moments, including three inversions, as they sink their teeth into crocodile-inspired thrills. “Iron Gwazi has been highly anticipated by roller coaster enthusiasts around the world since we first announced this new legend. Due to the unprecedented challenges over the last two years, Iron Gwazi was delayed, and we recognize the delay has disappointed our fans. We appreciate the patience our guests have shown,” said Neal Thurman, Busch Gardens Tampa Bay Park President. “We’re finally able to confirm that we will be delivering on the next-level thrills that our coaster fans crave and expect from Busch Gardens, when we open this incredible coaster this spring.” Manufactured by Rocky Mountain Construction, the newest addition at Busch Gardens is a wood and steel hybrid coaster design, combining the innovation of a steel coaster and the nostalgia of a wooden coaster. While elements of Gwazi, the classic wooden coaster, are integrated into the ride, all-new thrill components and a reimagined track layout take Iron Gwazi to another level. Iron Gwazi will be the 10th roller coaster to join Busch Gardens’ lineup of highly rated roller coasters and thrill rides, including Tigris, Florida’s tallest inversion, SheiKra, a 200-foot, 90-degree drop coaster, and Montu, recognized as one of the top 10 coasters in the country. Iron Gwazi will be an exciting attraction that thrill-seeking families can take on together. Guests can visit www.BuschGardensTampa.com for more information and to purchase tickets, Fun Cards, Annual Passes, or tickets.

ART & CULTURE

Florals for Spring? Groundbreaking. (Insert your best Miranda Priestly glare here.) But seriously, with Spring comes sunshine, warmer weather, allergies, and, of course, flowers. Take a trip up to The Orlando Museum of Art is for they ate once again hosting Art in Bloom: Festival of Fine Arts and Flowers. It is a wonderous showcase of spectacularly fresh floral designs inspired by the fine arts works from the museum’s permanent collection and current exhibitions. It’s a fun-filled, three-day, harmonious marriage of flowers complementing art, and vice versa. 2020 set the bar high by kicking off the festival with an exclusive ‘60s inspired Flower Power Party, stocked with an open bar, specialty cocktails, and scrumptious hors d’oeuvres amid the sounds of mid-century music, as well as a live fashion sketch experience. Renowned Central Florida florists participated in the event with their floral interpretations of OMA’s art collection, and local garden clubs also lent their floral flair. James Farmer, gardner, author, florist, interior designer, and cook and lifestyle expert, was a special guest where VIP ticket holders could pick his brain before attending his lecture and book signing.

Festival of Fine Arts and Flowers By Khadejah Khan

This year’s guest speakers include Carleton Varney, president and owner of Dorothy Draper & Co., and Margot Shaw, Editor-in-Chief of Flower magazine and author of Living Floral: Entertaining and Decorating with Flowers. Hopefully, familiar floral designers will return for the festival as well as newcomers, and perhaps we can expect the return of a popup boutique selling fresh take-home plants and blossoms, a daintily crafted floral inspired tea room serving iced tea, desserts, and wine, hands-on floral art workshops, a mystery home tour, antique shopping, and more. Art in Bloom: Festival of Fine Arts and Flowers is on March 24-27 at the Orlando Museum of Art.

STOP & SMELL THE ROSES

Brilliant gardens, fresh flavors, lively entertainment and more! Starting on March 2nd to July 4th, Walt Disney World’s Epcot will be having its International Flower and Garden Festival once again. This year will mark the festival’s 29th year on display and the blooms will be full speed ahead. There will be Garden Rocks Concerts that occurs three times a night in the America Gardens Theatre within the park, and the World Showcase will be hosting over 20 different booths. This 90-day festival displays an immense amount of color and artwork that visitors are able to relish in. It includes flower towers, a butterfly garden, and 30-million blooms. You don’t have to be a professional florist or topiarist to enjoy the wonderful sights and smells of the park during this time.

Not only are there flowers and topiaries of your favorite characters, the menu that Disney has procured for Epcot’s festival is also immaculate and worth attending for. Visitors can sample southern style food at Magnolia Terrace with their seafood boil or honey inspired food at The Honey Bee-stro Hosted by the National Honey Board. There is even a plant-based booth called Trowel & Trellis which is hosted by IMPOSSIBLETM Foods. Don’t miss out! Plan your trip to Epcot for this year’s International Flower and Garden Festival.

BEWARE OF THE DRAGONS! Join the hunt for the hidden treasure! The Harry P. Leu Gardens are an Orlando favorite for those who enjoy a nice walk in the park, or for those looking for something to do away from the screen. They aim to “inspire visitors to appreciate and understand plants.” And right now, they are having a mythical journey through the 50-acre botanical gardens to find the dragons’ hidden treasure. Each guest, a “seeker,” will receive a special map with information on finding legendary artifacts and clues. Each clue will help guide the “seeker” to decipher the meaning and find the location of the hidden treasure. Beware of the Dragons! Dragons are in the gardens. Keep watch on your quest and remember dragons are protectors of their treasure. Dragons Hidden Treasure Quest is included with your daytime garden admission. Face Masks are required for indoors only.

The Audi skysphere concept shows how the brand is redefining luxury in the future”

26

| STYLETOME.COM

TOYS

AUDI SKYSPHERE THE FUTURE IS WIDE OPEN Audi has unveiled the first member of a new family of concept vehicles, a spectacular roadster. Audi skysphere concept is the name of the electric-powered, two-door convertible whose lines lead directly to the Audi design of tomorrow. With it, the brand is illustrating its vision for the progressive luxury segment of the future, in which the interior becomes an interactive space and the vehicle a platform for captivating experiences. This is being made possible thanks to autonomous driving, a revolutionary redesign of the interior, and a seamless digital ecosystem. The Audi skysphere concept shows how the brand is redefining luxury in the future – it’s no longer just about driving. The concept car was designed with the clear objective of offering its occupants captivating and world-class experiences. To give passengers the maximum amount of freedom, the Audi skysphere concept was designed for two different driving experiences: a grand touring experience and a sports experience. This makes use of a spectacular technical detail – the variable wheelbase. Electric motors and a sophisticated mechanism with body and frame components that slide into one another make it possible to vary the wheelbase itself and the exterior length of the car by 250 millimeters. At the same time, the vehicle’s ground clearance is adjusted by 10 millimeters to enhance comfort and driving dynamics. With the touch of button, the driver can take advantage of their freedom and choose their own driving experience– either they pilot their 4.94-meter-long e-roadster themselves in “Sports” mode with a reduced wheelbase, while the rear-wheel steering ensures that the vehicle remains extremely agile despite its dimensions. Or they can choose to be chauffeured around in a 5.19-meter GT in the autonomous “Grand Touring” driving mode while enjoying the sky and the scenery, maximum legroom, and the services offered by a seamlessly integrated digital ecosystem. In this mode, the steering wheel and pedals move into an invisible area; the feeling of space

in the concept car opens up completely new realms of possibility for such a sporty convertible. Meanwhile, the Audi skysphere automatically keeps an eye on the road and traffic with its sensor system and drives the occupants safely to their destination. Similar to how the interior design offers a new, contemporary interpretation of luxury, digitization and the ecosystem open up unprecedented levels of freedom and worlds of experience for the vehicle’s passengers. Thanks to Audi’s own services and the ability to integrate digital services, the possibilities are nearly endless. In addition, the passengers can share their experience on the road with friends via social media, with images of the interior and the surrounding area. The vehicle also takes care of everyday tasks that go beyond the ride itself. For example, the autonomous Audi skysphere concept picks up its passengers with information about their current destination and independently handles parking and charging. The Audi skysphere concept will make its public debut on August 13, 2021, as part of Monterey Car Week – on the legendary fairways of the Pebble Beach golf course. This means the vehicle’s unveiling in California is taking place more or less on its home turf. This is because the concept car was conceived and designed at the Audi Design Studio in Malibu, just a stone’s throw away from the Pacific Coast Highway, the legendary coastal road that connects the suburbs of Los Angeles with northern California. Studio manager Gael Buzyn and his team are the creative minds behind the project. A legendary classic model from the company’s own history – the Horch 853 roadster – served as the inspiration for the new groundbreaking model. The impressive convertible, which is also around 5.20 meters in length, was not only the definition of modern luxury in the 1930s, but also won the Concours d’Elegance in Pebble Beach in 2009. But the visual inspiration from its predecessor is limited to the concept car’s dimensions and typical proportions with a rather compact cabin and long front end. A look under the hood of

the Horch reveals an imposing straight-eight engine with a displacement of 5 liters. The Audi skysphere, on the other hand, mainly has electric drive components between the front axle and the windshield, such as the charger and the DC/ DC converter, plus the actuators and electronic and mechanical components for the adaptive wheelbase. It also features a spacious trunk filled with two golf bags specially designed for the concept car. Audi skysphere, Audi grandsphere, and, coming in 2022, Audi urbansphere are the three concept cars that the brand with the four rings is using to showcase its vision of progressive luxury. In the process, Audi is creating a vehicle experience that goes far beyond the purpose of merely spending time in a car to get from point A to point B, and even far beyond the driving experience itself. These concept cars feature a new design that ultimately reimagines the interior, the passenger compartment, as the center of the vehicle and no longer subordinates the passenger experience to the requirements of the technology. This is reflected in the variable layout of the interior, the disappearance of the controls, and the sheer expanse of the cabin. In Grand Touring mode, this not only allows both passengers to enjoy a smooth and pleasant journey, but also combines it with new service offerings. These can be used to access a variety of service options related to the current trip – such as designing a spectacular scenic route, as well as restaurant or hotel options. Customized infotainment options are also available, such as linking the on-board streaming service to music and video providers used at home. And in a further step, Audi also aims to provide personalized and exclusive options for users of its luxury cars in the future – such as concerts, cultural events, or even sporting events that are only available upon special invitation. In this way, a vehicle like the Audi skysphere concept will become a platform for experiences that expand horizons beyond the mere ride in just a few years.

Ferrari’s 2022 Formula 1 Ferrari unveil their 2022 challenger, the F1-75 Ferrari’s 2022 Formula 1 car, the F1-75, has been revealed with a black-and-red livery, and another variation in sidepod design for the new generation of rules. After two winless seasons, Ferrari hopes its 2022 car – which has been the focus of a major car and engine development programme – will enable it to fight more regularly at the front in F1 again. Drivers Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz joined team principal Mattia Binotto to launch the F1-75, which features a distinct interpretation of the new rules with its sidepod design – but does mirror Aston Martin in having cooling louvres on the top. The car also has a revised colour scheme following the departure of long-time backer Philip Morris International and with it the Mission Winnow branding that has been featured for the last few seasons.

David Sanchez is tasked with the vehicle concept, with senior chassis responsibilities split between Enrico Cardile (chassis performance engineer) and Fabio Montecchi (chassis project engineering). In parallel, Ferrari has funded the introduction of a new state-ofthe-art driver-in-loop simulator at Maranello, which was operational in the second half of last. Under the skin, Ferrari has worked tirelessly to complete its recovery from the hit its power unit performance took in 2020, which followed the raft of technical directives issued by the FIA after unproven suspicions about the Ferrari engine. Last year, Ferrari made an encouraging step forward and established itself as the thirdstrongest engine manufacturer.

Ferrari’s 2021 improvements netted third in the constructors’ championship, which – though well behind Mercedes and Red Bull – meant it hit its target.

The introduction of a significant hybrid upgrade, with a new energy store that increased it from a 400volt to an 800-volt system in the final third of the season, was also an important step.

CELEBRITIES YOU FORGOT

RAN FOR OFFICE By Riesa Pascal

CELEBRITY SOUP

MEET THE STARS WHO WERE READY TO TRADE IN THE RED CARPET FOR POLITICS! Who says politics is just for politicians? From Ronald Regan and Clint Eastwood to even The Terminator himself, there have been numerous actors, athletes and other public figures who have all won their way to higher office after a successful career in the Hollywood spotlight. However, celebrity fame doesn’t always guarantee you an automatic win as the following stars discovered after voicing their own political aspirations. Cynthia Nixon In 2018, Cynthia Nixon announced she would be running for Governor of New York. The Sex and the City actress knew her chances of becoming Governor were slim and she was right. Nixon ultimately lost to Andrew Cuomo in spite of a hard fought campaign, but she has no regrets about running. She spoke candidly of her political aspirations in an interview saying, “Still every day multiple people come up to me and say, ‘I voted for you…thank you for running.’” Howard Stern Nixon wasn’t the only celebrity to miss out on a chance to govern the Big Apple! Famed radio show host Howard Stern also gave politics a try all the way back in 1994 when he announced that he’d be running for Governor of New York. Stern was up against Mario Cuomo and George Pataki at the time, but he eventually withdrew from the race after refusing to submit the customary personal finance disclosure. Roseanne Barr I can’t speak for everyone, but I for one definitely forgot that Roseanne Barr ran for President! In 2012, the comedian launched a campaign of promises that were centered around “marijuana legalization, environmental preservation, ending the wars overseas and equal rights.” Though Barr won nearly 70,000 votes, she ended up placing sixth in the famous election that saw the induction of America’s first black President. Kanye West Perhaps the most recent failed run on our list belongs to Kanye West. The rapper and ex-husband of Kim Kardashian announced his 2020 presidential election campaign through Twitter on Independence Day and conceded his campaign four months later on November 4, 2020, the morning after Election Day. Though he missed at least six states’ deadlines to appear on the ballot as a third-party candidate, West still received over 60,000 votes in the 12 states where he had ballot access and received the 5th highest national vote count for a non-perennial presidential ticket.

Clay Aiken After rising to global fame on season 2 of American Idol, Clay Aiken enjoyed a decade of singing and song-writing before deciding to add politics to his resume. In 2014, Aiken ran for Congress as a Democratic representative in the 2nd Congressional District of North Carolina. Although he did not win the election, the singer has continued his political activism and is running again this year to represent North Carolina’s 6th Congressional District. Stacey Dash Clueless star Stacey Dash was no stranger to politics when she worked as a political analyst and contributor for Fox News from 2014 to 2016. The actress and outspoken Republican announced her candidacy to represent California’s 44th Congressional District in 2018, but withdrew only a month later. She spoke of her decision saying, “At this point, I believe that the overall bitterness surrounding our political process, participating in the rigors of campaigning, and holding elected office would be detrimental to the health and wellbeing of my family.” Wyclef Jean After the 2010 earthquake devastated the country of Haiti, Wyclef Jean announced that he would be running for the Haitian presidency. Sadly, the Haitian-American rapper’s political run was cut short after Haiti’s electoral council denied his bid. Though no official reason was given, Jean believes it was because he didn’t meet the five-year residency requirement. He accepted the disqualification with grace in a public statement saying, “We must all honor the memories of those we’ve lost—whether in the earthquake, or at any time—by responding peacefully and responsibly to this disappointment.” Jerry Springer When you hear the name Jerry Springer, the thought of politics probably doesn’t come to mind, but think again! The controversial daytime talk show host actually has an established background in politics and it began long before he became famous for meditating outrageous domestic disputes. In 1970, Springer even ran for Congress, and although he lost the election, he did serve 10 years as the mayor of Cincinnati, Ohio from 1971 to 1981.

‘HIIT’ THE

FLOOR

With High Intensity Interval Training Get Fit in Less Time By Shelby Newman

Tired of busting your butt at the gym for hours at a time and seeing little results? HIIT, standing for high intensity interval training, is quickly becoming one of the most popular styles of working out due to its exciting and challenging nature as well as its convenience for people on a time crunch. However, it is much more than a fleeting trend. Programs like F45, Orange Theory, and CrossFit are good examples of mixed modal forms of training, meaning they combine elements of high-intensity, strength, cardio, and circuit training to provide you with the most effective workout in less time than a trip to the local gym. No matter your fitness level, HIIT training programs have something to offer you. You might be asking yourself, “How is HIIT any better for me than a regular trip to the gym?” The answer is simple. The science behind HIIT is the reason why a 30-minute HIIT session can be more effective than an hour running on the treadmill at the gym. To sum it up - by performing short bursts of high intensity exercise followed by short periods of recovery, you’re heart rate is rising and falling quickly, making your body work harder to stabilize. By pushing your body to the limits, it will begin pulling from stored fat for fuel, causing fat loss and muscle building. During an average F45 class, you can burn between 500 and 800 calories within the allotted 45 minutes, depending on your age, gender, and fitness level. The average person only burns about 200 calories in 45 minutes of regular exercise on their own. An additional benefit to this type of training is that you can expect to burn calories for up to 36 hours after a session – that means you’ll be burning calories in your sleep. Besides the obvious health benefits, HIIT programs are usually done in a group setting, which not only encourages a sense of community, but motivates you to challenge yourself alongside your team. Coaches are also readily available to help you achieve the correct form and keep you moving when the going gets tough. Prefer to work alone? HIIT programs are based on individual success, meaning everyone focuses on their own progress. The best part about it is that you are free to work at your own speed and level. If you’re a beginner, or just having a bad day, you can simply go down in weight or do fewer reps to tailor to your body’s needs. Success is measured based on the individual, since a 60-year-old might not perform the same as a 20-year-old. Joining a HIIT gym is more than a workout choice - it’s a lifestyle change. Perfect for busy people looking for a fun challenge, a HIIT community might be exactly what you’re looking for to make friends, reach fitness goals, and maybe even achieve the six-pack abs you’ve been wanting.

FEATHER & FUZZ This spring, the designers we know and love have released fuzzy slides and baby heels as the trends of the season. They’re promoting comfort and class by keeping the outfits casual but upping the ante with these shoes that can totally transform the outfit. Furry heals are heading for the streets, turning heads as they pass. The low baby heels that have been detected on this season’s catwalks are bringing femininity and delicacy to the bright spring season with their kitten heels. The versatility in these trends will add the extra spring and fluff to your step!

FLOWER POWER 2022 Spring in Florida...Floral! Floral motifs are in and bolder than ever this spring. Designers have matched floral prints with bright neon colors on ball gowns and teatime tulip dresses to casual crop-tops and maxi skirts. These looks will have you blossoming like the Garden of Eden. Don’t forget the floral print heels to mix and match as well. Tom Ford, Valentino, and Marni to name a few, are all in on this trend. Be bold this season and sport that flower power.

By Devyn Le

Another trend you don’t want to miss out on this season are the pastel tones. Spring is blossoming and it’s time for the lilacs, lavenders and peonies to shine. Many have been sporting this look in monochrome pantsuits matched with trench-coats, but this trend also works for those soft early 2000’s cardigans that have made a comeback, matched with a small handbag.

Shannon R. M. Ivey, DVM Hidden Oaks Animal Hospital A South Carolina Lowcountry native, Dr. Shannon Ivey has found her home in Tarpon Springs, Florida. More than the oak trees draped in moss, beautiful creeks and bayous, cypress swamps, and abundant wildlife, the friendly community of Tarpon Springs drew her here and made her feel welcome. She is the proud owner of Hidden Oaks Animal Hospital, featuring a state-of-the-art veterinary hospital, separate cat hospital, her home, and an updated boarding facility nestled on five acres of a tranquil wooded sanctuary in Tarpon Springs. Dr. Ivey earned her Bachelor of Science degree at Clemson University and her Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine at the University of Tennessee, where she was fortunate to be involved in the medical care of their mascot Smokey and several of the Anheuser Busch Clydesdale horses. From serving as President of her Student Veterinary Medical Chapter to President of several Local Veterinary Medical Associations in Memphis and Shelby County, TN and in Sarasota County, FL, Dr. Ivey has always been active in local veterinary medical leadership and education. At Hidden Oaks, she is happy to work with student volunteers and interns, fostering close relationships with the St. Petersburg College Veterinary Technology program and the Tarpon Springs High School Veterinary Science Academy. In fact, the year 2020 was unique for Hidden Oaks Animal Hospital in that its employees/alumni represented all three levels of educational achievement earning High School, Veterinary Technology, and Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degrees! While practicing veterinary medicine during a pandemic has presented some unique challenges, Dr. Ivey and her team have diligently maintained the highest standards of care and provided patients and clients with the personalized, compassionate treatment to which they are accustomed. She has incorporated telemedicine, increased prescription and pet food home delivery, provided outdoor client seating, performed outdoor exams and peaceful euthanasia in the butterfly

garden, and implemented contactless payments to help adapt to our changing situation. Regardless of the current demands, Dr. Ivey and her team have continued to practice the highest levels of veterinary care, including advanced soft tissue and orthopedic surgery, Sevo- and Isoflurane anesthesia, digital radiology (x-rays), ultrasonography, dentistry, internal medicine, cardiology, oncology, Class IV Laser therapy, cryotherapy, behavioral consults, and dermatology. Dr. Ivey also welcomes a board-certified cardiologist to the practice monthly for echocardiograms and consultations. Despite less than 15% of veterinary hospitals earning the distinction of American Animal Hospital Association Accreditation, she is proud to have just celebrated the hospital’s 25th year as an AAHA Accredited Hospital! Further recognition came as Hidden Oaks Animal Hospital was presented with the Best of Tarpon Springs Animal Hospital Award of 2020! Through Hidden Oaks Animal Hospital’s support of local animal charities and donations to disaster relief causes, Dr. Ivey strives to have a positive impact on the Tampa Bay community. She also remains committed to community involvement when not in the office. Inspired by her daughter Arwyn, a Double Bassist, she absolutely loves her time spent with the Tarpon Springs Leadership Conservatory for the Arts, Tampa Metropolitan Youth Orchestra, and the Pinellas Youth Symphony. She is extremely honored to actively serve on the Board of Directors for the Pinellas Youth Symphony. As light filters through the Spanish moss on the oak trees and the deer and turkey roam the grounds, it is easy to see why Dr. Ivey is glad that her home is attached to the vet hospital and why her patients feel so comfortable when they come to Hidden Oaks Animal Hospital for medical care and to board at its newly remodeled spa. The warmth and hospitality of Dr. Shannon Ivey is well matched by the current medical therapies practiced at Hidden Oaks Animal Hospital where your pets will feel at home, too.

Lake Seminole Animal Hospital Dr. Michael Rumore, Dr. Kristin Wrede, Dr. Veronica Brenes-LaRoche, Dr. Abigail O’Connor Lake Seminole Animal Hospital has been helping the pets of Pinellas for more than 60 years. Veterinary medicine has advanced by leaps and bounds during those decades, but the core of Lake Seminole Animal Hospital has not. “We are here to give the little furry ones the longest, happiest, healthiest life we can,” says owner Dr. Michael Rumore, “and digital x-rays, laser therapy and advanced medical treatments are only good when they are used with compassion and kindness.” “Years ago, we had a patient named Lola, a cute little Yorkshire Terrier with multiple complicated health issues.

Lola’s dog mom was great; and while she had her ups and downs, we helped her take really good care of Lola. As Lola grew older, her mom gave us a Thomas Kincaid painting of a lit cabin in the woods. She said we were her beacon in the darkness, guiding her when she was most scared for Lola. It was such an honor being entrusted and allowed to help; we try to be that light every day.” Lake Seminole Animal Hospital continues that tradition of being the gentle, compassionate and knowledgeable professionals that people need when they are concerned about their fur-babies.

SPRING YOUR HOME’S VAULE

It’s Spring Cleaning 2.0

By Yngrid Lindores

This cost of living is constantly increasing, yet the places we call home can remain stagnant in value. Sometimes a tight budget or pressed time can be seen as reason to keep home looking stale and uninspired. From eroding paint to raggedy furniture and crowded corners, this outline will help you increase the value of your space and achieve a more chic, thoughtfully edited home, without emptying your wallet. 1. Think open: Try hanging pots and pans with wall-mounted hooks or a hanging rack. Another option is to create open shelving by removing a few overhead cabinets. Both are easy ways to increase the visual space of your kitchen.

KATE SPADE NEW YORK GLASS COASTERS $25 / Available at Katespade.com

2. Update cabinet handles: Replacing generic or old cabinet handles in the bathroom and kitchen can do wonders. When shopping, look for handles that are functional but also keep in line with the overall aesthetic of your space.

3. Get new outlet and light-switch plates. These fixtures are notorious for getting dirty overtime. So, either replace the plates or paint the plates, after a good run down of rubbing alcohol, the same color as the surrounding wall. 4. Refresh the trim: Beat-up, dirty looking trim gives a subtle impression that the whole house is dingy. Eradicate this by repainting the trim. This will give your space a sharper look. 5. Get the nitty gritty: Use grout paint pens to give bathroom tiles, and subsequently the bathroom, a fresher look. 6. Fix-up the front yard: Spend time weeding the yard and laying down dark mulch. The point here is to keep the landscape simple and attractive.

CIRCLES AND DOTS Interior designers have decided to double up on the trendiest print: circles. This season, it’s more about mixing various circular patterns, than it is about a single print. It might sound overwhelming, but if executed correctly, you’ll end up with a chic space that looks ahead of the curve. The trick is to mix the print from small to large, for example: a small pattern should be something like a micro dot, a medium pattern could be a polka dot and a large pattern could be basic graphic circles. The technique of mixing two to three different sizes, going from small to large, will keep things tidy and interesting. Polka dots translate well as wallpaper so, try it out on the entry hall or

the dining room. Also, keep in mind that any compact room with little upholstery can be transformed with a lively mix of circles and dots. If you’re not feeling quite so adventurous, just try adding circle print or dotted pillows, of various sizes, on to your couch; this technique is both easy to live with and far more interesting than basic pillows. The point is to exercise your creativity, so don’t be afraid to venture past walls and upholstery in order to consider other surfaces for dot decor. What about a charming polka-dot printed tabletop or wooden chair? Enjoy the process and you’ll be spot on, every time. TAMPASTYLEMAGAZINE.COM |

PROTECT YOUR FACE

By Devyn Le

Everything you should know about protecting your skin from blue light. You probably already have a skincare routine that you do religiously, but have you considered adding an extra step for blue light protection? In this age of digitalization and technology, many people are unaware about the effects that the blue light from their phone or computer screen has on their skin. Blue light contains high-frequencies and short wavelengths that are detrimental to your skin cells. The effects are not immediate but are long term. It has been found that blue light causes cell shrinkage, speeds up the aging process, and adds excess stress to the skin. Recently, many brands have released creams and serums focusing on just blue light protection alone. Before the release of these blue light focused protectants, many professionals recommended just wearing sunscreen or SPF. Unfortunately for the consumer, many of these common sunscreens leave a white cast or a thick and sticky feeling on your face. That’s why brands like Soleil Toujours and Goodhabit have deterred away from the common sunscreen, introducing other products of protection. The Goodhabit brand, released in 2020, is a leading skincare company in the protection from blue light. They provide on their brand website (goodhabitskin.com) that SPF is not enough to fight the visible blue light. Their best seller is the Water Jelly Dew Cream which is supposed to

provide “heavyweight hydration with a lightweight feel” utilizing their BLU5 technology. This technology they have created is from the extraction of a marine active off the coast of Greenland. This active ultimately creates a light protective film on the skin while neutralizing the effects of blue light. Furthermore, luxury brand, Soleil Toujours, has also released an anti-blue light formulated mist. Soleil Toujours announced their mission to “erase the divide between luxury skincare and serious suncare, making protection from the sun’s harmful rays a daily routine, not just a beach-day consideration” (soleiltoujours.com). However, their Organic Set+ Protect Micro Mist SPF 30 also provides protection from the blue light with the inclusion of the EcoSun Complex. This is their blend of red algae, ascorbyl pamitate (oil-soluble form of vitamin C), vitamin E, and bisabolol (extracted from chamomile) that is included in their products. ßThey also focus on sustainable packaging and environmental responsibility, so you don’t have to feel guilty when purchasing their products knowing that they are vegan and environmentally friendly. Make the choice to add the extra step of blue light protectant skincare to your routine and you’ll realize that’s what you’ve been missing.

IT’S 2022, AND IT’S TIME FOR A CLEANSE! By Naomi Shif

66

| TAMPASTYLEMAGAZINE.COM

HEALTH & BEAUTY

“ Most can agree that the honest admittance of one’s unhappiness is particularly viewed as embarrassing or shameful. This is because our society sees this as a personal weakness and failure. Whether it’s that unsettling feeling tucked away in the back of your psyche or the obvious obsession with the lackluster of your reality, we’ve all felt it from time to time. Generally we look to our past for any explanation of why or how it is possible to have become so desolate in our own lives, but maybe the truth lies in our mindsets. Like many, I’ve ignored the power of my own choices in the matter and the onset of my actions that are directly affecting my daily happiness. Every once in awhile it seems appropriate to filter out the parts of our lives that just aren’t “working” anymore. In light of spring, maybe it’s time for an important spring cleansing of the mind. LIMITING SOCIAL DRINKING.

One common cure for anyone feeling a tiny bit uneasy is alcohol. Young or old, reaching for something strong to sip down has become the crutch to pacify mental breakdown. If you’ve built a tolerance and a love for a good glass of wine like I have, it can be hard to part from it completely. If a bottle of spirits is your perfect ending to a stressful day, try limiting yourself. Reach for that glass but keep it at a happy limit of one glass with dinner. Instead of feeling sluggish, cotton-mouthed and sleep deprived the next morning trying to rehash all the intolerable things you did the night before, you’ll feel satisfied without overdoing and overindulging. DATE DIFFERENTLY.

The newest trend in dating is the fact that we are now focusing so heavily on our lack of a love-life that we miss the whole beauty of dating. The innocent excitement of meeting someone unexpectedly has turned into a game of left or right and how many matches we can achieve virtually. While our heads are buried somewhere behind a smartphone or laptop we are actually missing the people who walk in and out of our lives daily. Don’t get me wrong, the thought of looking through a catalog of singles is sometimes very intriguing but when you realize the price you pay by deluding romantic attention into the confines of social media, even your own reality can be altered. Logout and focus on the people who are a constant support in your life, maybe the person you’ve been looking for isn’t hiding behind an internet profile afterall.

Being happy has no simple fix but focusing your attention on your personal responsibility in the matter could be a huge step in the right direction.

FIND VALUED USE OF PERSONAL TIME.

It’s almost as if social media has become less a place to personally connect but a place to compete and criticize amongst the individuals in your life. You may think posting about the newest material advancement in your life will somehow heighten your success, but in fact you find yourself fixating on the amount of likes you receive from your peers, or the lack thereof. Time may find itself available to focus on other things we have been notoriously neglecting, if we could only find small ways to pull back from internet platforms in our everyday lives. Instead of that hour long session of social media scrolling before bed, find an inspiring read or relaxation hobby to pick up before turning out the lights each night. I’ve turned to free writing as a way to release stress. Giving your mind the time to breathe after a long day will not only adjust your free time spent, but also promote a healthier night’s sleep: disconnect to decompress.

STOP ENGAGING IN POINTLESS GOSSIP.

As a woman, I am notorious for indulging in conversations focused on other people with my girlfriends. On and on, gabbing about things that have no direct effect on our lives. This I have found may be a small way to release steam because something deeper is making me equally unhappy. Instead of deciphering my own buried disappointments I have wasted precious time trying to pick apart others. Instead of engaging in the gossip surrounding my inner circle, I’ve tried to sit silently and observe our social behavior, that has proven to be telling enough. Voicing a frustration or two is perfectly normal but spending a whole evening harping on drama is as equally destructive as it is exhausting. DRAFT REASONS TO SMILE.

It is so easy to somehow make my life into a soap opera of immense proportion. Taking small steps to resist the urge to rehash the hardships during my day and shift it into a play by play of the positive ones isn’t easy. Sometimes it can feel like squeezing water out of a rock, but get creative if you have to. Write a small list down somewhere in a notebook next to your bed, store it away and when you’re having “one of those days” reread the things that once made you smile. Being happy has no simple fix but focusing your attention on your personal responsibility in the matter could be a huge step in the right direction.
