HEALTH & BEAUTY

IV

Therapy By Omayra La Bella

HEALTH & BEAUTY

The month of June brings with it warm weather and the excitement of starting off the summer season. In Florida, everyone heads outside to enjoy outdoor activities. Whether you choose to spend the day at the beach, at a ball game, a theme park, or engaging in other outdoor activities, we must always remember the importance of staying adequately hydrated as we enjoy the warm summer days. Hydration is always crucial, especially in Florida, but it is most crucial during hot and muggy weather, since sweating causes us to lose body fluids. Due to the body's highwater content (more than 60%), dehydration poses a hazard to human health. Our bodies are at serious risk when body fluid levels drop. When the body does not replenish lost body fluids as quickly as they are depleted, dehydration results. The cells in our bodies require water to function normally. However, significant amounts of water and electrolytes can be lost through perspiration, emphasizing the significance of staying hydrated throughout the scorching summer months. Dehydration can be alleviated by drinking water, but your body may still need other nutrients to be well hydrated. IV Therapy is one of my favorite trends within the health and wellness sector right now. Fluids or vitamins are administered intravenously (IV), often known as intravenous therapy. It is the quickest way to get fluids like blood, vitamins, and drugs straight into your circulatory system. One of the most beneficial health procedures is IV Therapy, because it replenishes your body instantly. It leads to an increase in energy levels, it delays the effects of aging, enhances muscle repair, and improves stamina with hydration and nutrients. IV Hydration Therapy, which infuses vital vitamins and minerals into your circulation to aid in restoring your body's water-electrolyte balance, is highly recommended throughout the summer months. IV Hydration Therapy is a straightforward procedure that involves inserting a tiny IV into your arm to administer fluids directly into your

bloodstream. Vitamins, electrolytes, antioxidants and more. The effects of intravenous fluids differ from patient to patient and can rely on several varying factors. For instance, I start to feel the effects 45 minutes to four hours after receiving IV Therapy for hydration or to treat a hangover. When I receive IV Infusion Therapy, I feel the difference between two to four weeks after treatment A must need when my goal is to increase my energy levels. IV Therapies, such as the trending and highly recommended Vitamin Infusion Therapy, can help a wide range of people, whether they are athletes, young people, or old. These infusions enhance long and healthy lives and general overall wellness. Wellness clinics may create and tailor IV Drips to your unique needs and preferences, while offering several IV Vitamin Therapy combinations, which can help you feel better and rejuvenate your health to raise your quality of life! IV vitamin treatments are beneficial for everyone. If you are like me and want to increase your energy and immune system, improve your athletic performance, recover faster from a hangover or food poisoning, improve your skincare regimen, or speed up your weight loss journey, given the variety of vitamins and supplement IV mixtures that are available, IV Therapy can provide several advantages for health and wellness, including but not limited to: • Promoting faster weight loss • Curing hangover symptoms • Cleansing your body of toxins • Increasing your energy levels • Promoting better cardiovascular health • Easing anxiety and promoting relaxation • Improving your immunity • Boosting energy levels • Improving depression systems • Reducing migraine symptoms

• Improving cognitive function

and mental clarity • Combating fatigue • Slowing the aging process •Strengthening nails, hair, eyes, and skin • Brightening the skin • Improving blemishes •Anti - Aging When scheduling for an IV Therapy treatment, keep the following in mind: • It is advised that you discuss IV Therapy with your primary care physician if you have a specific medical problem to decide whether it is right for you. • Always check to see if the medical professional administering your IV Therapy is licensed and informed about all your medical issues. • Prior to scheduling an appointment, it is crucial that you research the wellness center. Before approving you for the treatment, the licensed clinic should have a full medical evaluation already in place. • Your medical history, current medications, and food allergies must be disclosed to the clinic before they can reject or appoint you. • There should never be a sense of urgency, and the nurse should always explain what is being done to you throughout the treatment process. For the past few years, I have been receiving my IV Therapy treatments at a place close to the downtown Orlando area known as, “Drip Vibe Infusions.” Just tell them your symptoms or needs, and they right away know exactly what IV Therapy you need. My favorite IV Therapy’s which I highly recommend are: The Women’s Health, AntiAging, Immunity Boost, Athletic Recovery and Anti-Anxiety Stress Relief. At “Drip Vibe Infusions,” you will receive any treatment you may need to leave your body feeling rejuvenated at the end, make sure to ask for nurse Valerie or nurse Tara.

‘‘

IF YOU CAN HARNESS YOUR HABITS AND ONLY FOCUS ON DOING THOSE THAT ACTUALLY ENHANCE, AND IMPROVE YOUR LIFE, YOU WILL REAP A WORLD OF BENEFITS.

18 | ORLANDOSTYLEMAGAZINE.COM

Poor health, and low energy can negatively impact every part of your life. Your motivation and creative spark can be destroyed, leading you with no inspiration to live your life to the fullest. All aspects of daily life routines would become tedious, hard going, and your social life would become a shadow of what it used to be. A habit is a behavior that we develop over the time, and you have become accustomed to doing it. Our habits tend to be automatic, uncontrolled, and most of all, unintentional. Basically, something that you regularly do without having to consciously think about it. There are two sides of habits; good and bad. Good habits promote healthy lifestyle which includes well-being and mindful living. We are humans and of course we all have good and bad habits. However, we have choices. We can choose how we want to live our lives. Overall, bad habits are bad because they can cause you harm either right away or over time. We all know now life is all about balancing. Habits dictate how we live, how we perform, and the results we achieve in life. SAMPLE OF HEALTHY HABITS THAT CAN IMPROVE EVERY ASPECT OF YOUR LIFE

HEALTHY EATING HABITS 1. Make sure you chew your food well 2. Stock up on healthy food 3. Try to walk 10000 steps a day 4. Eat more green and fruits 5. Choose healthy fats 6. Don’t eat until your full 7. Cut down on sugar intake 8. Exchange soft drinks for water 9. Drink alcohol in moderation HEALTHY LIVING HABITS 1. Exercise more 2. Continue to be active even outside the gym 3. Getting plenty of sleep 4. Turn off technology from time to time 5. Maintain a healthy weight 6. Eat a healthy, well balanced diet 7. Minimize stress as much as possible It is very important that you maintain your habits. They make up everything you do. For many of us, a day can be broken down into various habits; waking up at a certain time, eating a certain thing for breakfast, taking a certain route to work, etc. If you can harness your habits and only focus on doing those that actually enhance, and improve your life, you will reap a world of benefits.

CELEBRATE JUNETEENTH IN ORLANDO Juneteenth, also known as Freedom Day or Emancipation Day, is an American holiday that commemorates the end of slavery in the United States. The holiday's name is a combination of "June" and "nineteenth," referring to June 19, 1865, when Union General Gordon Granger arrived in Galveston, Texas, to inform enslaved African Americans that they were free. This occurred more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation had been signed, which declared that all slaves in the Confederate States were free. Juneteenth has been celebrated annually since that time and is recognized as a state holiday or special day of observance in most states in the United States. The holiday is a time for African Americans and others to celebrate freedom and acknowledge the ongoing struggle for equality and justice. It is often marked with parades, picnics, and other community events. In 2021, the United States Congress passed a bill making Juneteenth a federal holiday.

LAKE LILY: JUNETEENTH CELEBRATION June 17th, 2023 Come celebrate Juneteenth at the Vibranium Central Florida Juneteenth Festival of Arts, where everyone is cordially invited to experience African American culture, history, love, and vibes. The festival offers a FREE KIDS ZONE, where all children can enjoy complimentary food, drinks, and desserts, as well as bounce houses and educational and historical exhibits. CELEBRITY SOUP

STRANGE, but Totally TRUE, Celebrity Facts By Riesa Pascal

It goes without saying that celebrities can be a pretty eclectic bunch of people, so it’s rare these days to hear a fact about one that can still surprise you. Fortunately, we scoured through the depths of the interweb and uncovered a series of shocking trivia about some of your favorite stars that will leave you blown away! From lion tamers to secret geniuses, here are 8 strange, but totally true, celebrity facts.

40 | ORLANDOSTYLEMAGAZINE.COM

CELEBRITY SOUP

Simon Cowell Before he was the wise cracking judge of American Idol and even longer before he created The X Factor and Got Talent franchises, English television personality Simon Cowell once had a job working as a lowly runner on Stanley Kubrick’s set for The Shining at Elstree Studios in London. One of Cowell’s tasks included polishing set props which even included buffing Jack Nicholson’s axe for the famous “Here’s Johnny” scene. Elvis Presley Finding out this strange fact had me all shook up! Although Elvis Presley is famed for his powerful voice, sinful hip shaking and perfectly coiffed jet-black hair, the American cultural icon was actually faking one of those items and luckily it wasn’t his vocals. Believe it or not, the King of Rock and Roll is surprisingly a natural blond and he wasn’t ashamed to admit it, even detailing how he would use black shoe polish to color his hair and achieve his now iconic signature look. Vangelis Greek composer Vangelis reached global fame with his beautiful score for Chariots Of Fire, a film which went on to win four Academy Awards, but did you know that this musical genius is also musically illiterate? Vangelis is unable to read a single line of sheet music, but somehow he still managed to write unforgettable scores for numerous projects including the original Blade Runner. Other musically illiterate artists include Pavarotti and even Jimi Hendrix so fortunately Vangelis is not alone! Christopher Walken Today you know him as an insanely talented Academy Award-winning actor, but when he was just a teenager, Christopher Walken worked several odd jobs around his hometown. Perhaps the most bizarre of these was working as an assistant lion tamer in a circus. In an interview with Vanity Fair, Walken spoke about the odd job and reflected on his time performing tricks in the ring saying, “It was a female lion named Sheba, and she was very sweet.”

Chris Kirkpatrick As a child of the 90s, I was a huge fan of both the Backstreet Boys and NSYNC so I was amazed to learn that the two bands are more closely related than I even realized! In fact, NSYNC’s existence only came about because of Chris Kirkpatrick’s failed audition for the Backstreet Boys. After trying out for the “edgy” member of the group, which ultimately went to AJ McLean, their notorious manager Lou Pearlman asked Kirkpatrick to find four other guys for a different group which is how BSB’s ‘rival’ band NSYNC was formed. Dr. Ruth Westheimer Described as “Grandma Freud” and the “Sister Wendy of Sexuality”, Dr. Ruth Westheimer is perhaps best known for helping to revolutionize talk about sexuality on radio and television. Before she was advocating for speaking openly about sexual issues, however, she was actually a trained sniper with an excellent shot in the Israeli army. That’s right, not only can Dr. Ruth help spice up your love life… she can also bring an end to your life from 400 yards away! Harrison Ford You can’t have the Star Wars franchise without Han Solo and any Star Wars fan will tell you that only Harrison Ford could’ve pulled off such an iconic role, but did you know that his casting almost didn’t happen? In fact, he only landed the famed role by sheer luck of being in the right place at the right time. As the story goes, Ford was working as a carpenter, installing a door for Francis Ford Coppola when George Lucas stopped by and was convinced to let Ford read some lines for the movie. The rest, as they say, was history! Nolan Gould If you’re anything like me, then you are likely a fan of the popular American sitcom Modern Family. The hilarious series offers a comedic look into the life of the fictional Dunphy family told from the perspective of an unseen documentary filmmaker. Although actor Nolan Gould plays the dumbest Dunphy sibling on the show, he is actually a real life genius once the cameras are off! Not only is he a member of Mensa with an IQ of 150, he also graduated from high school at the age of 13.

Geoff Hoatson, Esq. Family First Firm We’re proud to celebrate Geoff Hoatson, Founder and CEO of the Family First Firm as a 2023 recipient of Orlando Style’s #1 Reader’s Choice award. Geoff ’s story is filled with personal exposure to difficulty and hardship and, unfortunately, is one shared by thousands of others across the nation. In their old age, his grandparents were financially devastated by elder exploitation, nursing homes, memory care facilities, and even the legal system itself. The challenges Geoff ’s family faced in handling the financial and legal hurdles were harrowing and begged the question of how anyone could navigate the system alone. His difficult journey was a learning experience and led him toward the fields of estate planning and elder law. In 2009, he established the Family First Firm, dedicating his life to helping the many families dealing with the system on their own. Since its inception, the Family First Firm has grown exponentially, becoming one of

the largest elder law firms in Florida with over 45 passionate team members. They work to protect the assets of thousands of affected families across Central Florida. When asked about the impact of his efforts, Geoff responds, “I am grateful for the opportunity to make a generational difference for these families by preserving their legacies for their loved ones. My work building the largest elder law firm in Central Florida has allowed me to serve a community I deeply care about.” The Family First Firm is a law firm driven by results, and they know that meaningful outcomes are built from real dedication. They are experts in elder law and establish a myriad of different asset protection strategies to protect their client’s financial assets from predators, medical expenses, and legal liabilities. Planning for long-term care is complex, and an effective strategy ensures that what the family worked so hard to achieve isn’t squandered away.

to each client. Each and every one of their clients has a story of burdens, struggle, and grief written on their faces. But despite it all, they see a way to help ease the stress, safeguard the finances of these families, and show them that they don’t have to fight these battles alone. “It’s an honor to be recognized for the impact that the Family First Firm has made in our clients’ lives - something I am truly passionate about.” Geoff states. “This award inspires me to continue my work with dedication and passion as we expand across the state of Florida.” If you’re interested in getting your family’s affairs in order, we’d love to help. Ly T. Nguyen, MD Board-Certified Ophthalmologist, Eye Florida Patients who visit Dr. Ly Nguyen’s office say she is a wonderful doctor; some say she is one of the most skilled ophthalmologists serving the Kissimmee and Saint Cloud communities. She smiles warmly when her patients tell her that she is a caring person who takes the time to listen and get to know them personally. Dr Nguyen says, “I have seen tens of thousands of cases but each patient’s life story is unique, and I can still remember the details of most of my patients.” Reflecting on her life, many signs point to her path in the field of ophthalmology. Growing up in the countryside in Vietnam, she developed night blindness due to malnutrition. While she was still in college at Brown University, her father developed early cataracts due to the harsh sun as a longline commercial fisherman. These personal experiences shaped Dr. Nguyen’s passion and mission in helping her patients see better. After receiving her Bachelor of Science in Biology with Honors and Bachelor of Arts in Biomedical Ethics at Brown University, Dr. Nguyen completed her medical training and preliminary surgery internship at the John A Burn’s School of Medicine at the University of Hawai’i. One month after giving birth to her son Aaron, she relocated to Denver to start her ophthalmology training at the University of Colorado Rocky Mountain Lions Eye Institute. Through her rigorous clinic rotations and trauma calls, she cultivated a deeper sense of empathy and compassion for her patient’s wellbeing and healthcare. As a board-certified ophthalmologist, Dr. Nguyen specializes in cataract, oculoplastic, and minimally-invasive glaucoma surgeries. When she is not

operating or running her private practice, Dr. Nguyen enjoys spending time with her family and friends, traveling, and reading. She dedicates her time to giving back to the community. She contributes as the current Chief of Surgery and previous member of the Board of Trustee for Orlando Health St. Cloud Hospital. She is a co-founding member of the An Bang Professionals, a non-profit organization committed to providing financial assistance to promising high school graduates and underserved communities in the United States and aboard. Dr. Nguyen is a diplomate of the American Board of Ophthalmology (ABO) as well as member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO), Florida Society of Ophthalmology (FSO), and Association of Women Surgeons (AWS). Dr. Nguyen has received numerous awards, including Top Doctors and Best of Florida as well as being voted as Orlando Style’s Elite Doctors, Top Eye Doctors, and Women of the Year. When asked to share some memorable cases in her career, Dr. Nguyen spoke about a case of a young mother who was legally blind due to mature cataracts and insurance delays. By the time this young mother was referred to Dr. Nguyen, many had feared that her sight was permanently lost. Dr. Nguyen performed the cataract surgery and soon after, the mother was able to see! During her follow-up visit with Dr. Nguyen, she was overjoyed with tears and shared openly, “Now I can finally see my son’s face. It has been many years I have not seen his face and now I can watch him grow up.” Reflecting back on this Dr. Nguyen states, “We often take our gift of sight for granted and experiences like these allows me to make a difference in my patient’s life.”

The Geneva School A K4–12 Christian Classical School The Geneva School celebrates her 30th anniversary this year. In May 1993, a book study inspired a small group to imagine what Christian classical education could look like here in Central Florida. After a summer of enthusiastic planning, The Geneva School was born. From the beginning, Geneva’s mission has been to inspire students to love beauty, think deeply, and pursue Christ’s calling. Although we have grown from our humble beginnings, the mission remains the same, and our buildings and campus now match the quality of the transformative education that takes place each day at Geneva. Geneva’s first permanent academic building, Ingram Hall, opened in August 2019. Named after Bob Ingram—founder, former board chairman, and longtime headmaster—and his wife, Marjean—founder, volunteer of countless hours, and longtime supporter of Geneva, it is where 7th–12th graders gather, learn, and grow. The 53,000-square-foot lower school building opened in August 2022 for K4 through sixth graders. The building includes science labs; art rooms; music rooms; one enchanting library; a da Vinci room; a Kinder Corners Imagination room; tutoring rooms, classrooms, offices, workrooms,

and meeting spaces; and concessions. The back porch dining area and playground are full of laughter, songs, and learning. Named for John Riley, board chairman, and his wife, Laura, Geneva’s new competition gymnasium, Riley Arena, will host games, matches, and school-wide gatherings for generations. This space boasts four locker rooms with shower facilities, weight room, physical therapy room, multipurpose room, storage rooms, and athletic offices. An outdoor basketball court and a smaller practice field for lower school use complement the new gymnasium. Geneva’s complete athletic complex includes a state-of-the-art track, soccer fields, baseball field, softball field, batting cages, tennis courts, and beach volleyball courts. Gratitude is key at The Geneva School. From humble beginnings to the beautiful campus the community now enjoys, each moment shared adds to the story that is being written here. We look forward to many more chapters as we continue to inspire students to love beauty, think deeply, and pursue Christ’s calling.

ranging from interests and activities such as exercising outdoors, reading a book, cooking, math, fishing, or swimming. Not everyone has the same interests. Dr. Niva encourages everyone to spend time with themselves to find out what brings out their inner joy and to pursue that path because that path can lead to personal and professional success. Recognizing and respecting that personal unique path to joy is paramount to lifelong joy and success. In the neuromuscular clinic, patients arrive with challenging cases and disabling diseases such as ALS that can lead to progressive weakness and death. Clinical research, however, can help these patients. Being involved in clinical trials and research activities for these patients brings Dr. Niva great joy. Despite the long days, hard work, and challenging patients, being able to move the field of neuromuscular medicine forward makes it all worthwhile.

batter as glue to hold it in place.

TIPS FOR SUCCESS:

- Pipe the macarons onto the parchment paper in 1½-inch (3-cm) circles, spacing them at least 1 inch (2 cm) apart.

- Weigh the ingredients accurately using a kitchen scale for precise results. Aging the egg whites in the refrigerator for a few days helps achieve the ideal consistency for macarons.

PREP TIME: 30 MINUTES COOK TIME: 20 MINUTES MAKES: 30 MACARONS

- Bake the macarons for 17 minutes until the “feet” are well-risen and they don’t stick to the parchment paper.

PREPARATION:

- Transfer the macarons to a wire rack to cool completely before filling.

- Make the macarons: In a food processor, combine the powdered sugar, almond flour, and ½ teaspoon of salt. Process on low speed until finely ground. Sift the almond flour mixture through a fine-mesh sieve into a large bowl. - In another large bowl, use an electric hand mixer to beat the egg whites and the remaining ½ teaspoon of salt until soft peaks form. Gradually add the granulated sugar while continuing to beat until stiff peaks form. - Add the vanilla extract and beat until incorporated. Then, add the pink gel food coloring and beat until just combined. - Add about 1/3 of the sifted almond flour mixture at a time to the beaten egg whites. Gently fold with a spatula until combined. Continue folding slowly after the last addition of almond flour until the batter falls into ribbons and you can create a figure “8” with the spatula. - Transfer the macaron batter into a piping bag fitted with a round tip. - Place four dots of the batter in each corner of a rimmed baking sheet. Secure a piece of parchment paper over it, using the

- Tap the baking sheet on a flat surface five times to release any air bubbles. - Let the macarons sit at room temperature for 30 minutes to 1 hour until they feel dry to the touch. - Preheat the oven to 300°F (150°C).

- Make the vanilla buttercream: In a large bowl, beat the butter with a mixer for 1 minute until light and fluffy. Sift in the powdered sugar and beat until fully incorporated. Add the vanilla extract and beat to combine. Gradually add the heavy cream, one tablespoon at a time, until the desired consistency is reached. - Transfer the buttercream to a piping bag fitted with a round tip. - Add a dollop of buttercream to one macaron shell and top it with another shell to create a sandwich. Repeat with the remaining macaron shells and buttercream - Once all the macarons are filled, place them in an airtight container for 24 hours to allow them to “bloom.” This resting period helps meld the flavors and textures, resulting in the perfect macaron experience. Finally, it’s time to indulge! Serve these delicate delights as a centerpiece for afternoon tea, a sophisticated dessert at a summer soirée, or simply as a welldeserved treat for yourself.

- Sifting the almond flour mixture and folding the batter gently are crucial steps in creating a smooth, airy texture. - Allow the macarons to rest at room temperature before baking to develop a dry surface, which promotes the formation of the signature macaron “feet.” - Store the filled macarons in the refrigerator for up to five days to maintain their freshness. CUSTOMIZATION IDEAS: - Experiment with different food coloring shades to match the theme of your event or personal preference. - For a unique twist, add flavor extracts such as almond, lemon, or even matcha to the macaron batter. - Explore various fillings like chocolate ganache, fruit jams, or even a tangy citrus curd to personalize your macarons. With our easy-to-follow recipe, you can master the art of creating delicate and delightful macarons in the comfort of your own kitchen. The combination of crisp shells and velvety vanilla buttercream will transport your taste buds to a Parisian patisserie. So, gather your ingredients, channel your inner pastry chef, and embark on a culinary adventure that will leave you with a plateful of irresistible summer treats. Bon appétit!
