Dear valued readers,

As the month of April begins, I find myself thinking of that old saying that we’ve heard time and time again. There are some things you just can’t avoid: taxes and getting older. Well, hopefully our taxes will be taken care of by April 15th, but getting older? Now that’s another story.

No matter how hard we try, we just can’t seem to avoid the effects that time has on us. Although, after watching the movie “Lucy,” I got a bit more hope, when it convinced the audience that cells don’t really die. This idea is definitely worth thinking about, whether it’s true or false.

We might not ever understand all of the mysteries of life, but it’s comforting to know that as long as we’re here on earth, we will always continue to develop new and beneficial ways to keep ourselves youthful and in good health. Who knows, we might be closer to get our brain/memory transferred to a computer, so that we can later on put it back into an AI created being with our history and knowledge… Like living on… interesting and scary thought. Let us hear your 2 cents on that. : info@styletome.com

This month, take a moment to ponder all of the wonderful aspects of life, and perhaps you’ll even feel more youthful in the process. It is definitely great to know that there are new and amazing developments in medicine and beauty industries this year, and, in our special “Body & Soul” issue of Orlando Style will remind you to take a break, relax, and enjoy the lovely things of each new day. Forget your worries for an hour or two and stop and smell the roses. Life is short, and those who take the time to allow their mind to linger on the sunny-side of things seem to make this life more enjoyable and perhaps even a bit longer.

It is so important for us to take care of our health, so, we can increase our time on earth with those we love. Be encouraged this month to visit your doctor, go to the gym, or perhaps even spend an afternoon at the salon or spa.

Our April issue features our popular profiles on some of the most extraordinary and successful business personalities in the area, along with the always fantastic fashion trends and fascinating photo shoots that inspire you, our stylish readers, every month. It is always so rewarding to see the fruits of our labor in our finish product, thanks to the hard work and dedication of our staff of writers, photographers, and graphic designers, and we hope you'll enjoy this issue as much as we do.

On a fun note, our publication is the first national magazine to create the new and highly technological printing process called “Lirpa Loof,” which injects flavors into the paper. We invite each of you to taste a blank square on a page and attempt to guess the flavor. (Warning: It may contain peanuts!) Did you discover some of the flavors? Send us your feedback at info@ styletome.com.

Until next month, have some springtime fun in the sun!

FLORIDA GROVES FESTIVAL

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT

STYLE EVENTS, NEWS & GOSSIP FROM AROUND ORLANDO

Florida might not have much of a winter, but spring is absolutely stunning in the Sunshine State. As a result, March is a busy season for events throughout the City Beautiful. Here are just a few highlights, just in case you missed it!

The biggest drinking day of the year finally returned last month! Friday, March 17th saw the largest and best St. Patrick's Day Block Party in Downtown Orlando. Attendees threw on something green and partied hard with live Irish music, tons of beads, free giveaways, green beer, Jell-O shots, and perhaps a Leprechaun or two. Rocking music and live performances rounded out the event with guests enjoying seven different venues of St. Patrick’s Day fun.

The Winter Park Sidewalk Art Festival is one of the nation’s oldest, largest and most prestigious outdoor art festivals. The 4th Annual event took place from March 17-23 throughout Central Park and along Park Avenue in Winter Park. The festival debuted in March 1960 as a community project to bring local artists and art lovers together. Today, it is produced by an allvolunteer board and draws more than 250,000 visitors each year. Over 1,100 artists from around the world applied for the Festival and an independent panel of three judges selected the 215 artists who exhibited their works at this year’s event. The Winter Park Sidewalk Art Festival consistently ranks as one of the top juried fine art festivals in the country.

Every year on the 3rd weekend of March, downtown streets come alive with an eclectic display of Fine and Fun Arts and Crafts by more than 200 exhibitors. It's a fun, free, two-day, open-air event, with historic Mount Dora as a backdrop. Of course I’m talking about the Mount Dora Spring Festival of Arts and Crafts which has been ranked in the Top 50 Classic/Contemporary Craft Festivals in America by Sunshine Artist. Though it was originally known as the Mount Dora Antique Show, today the event has no antique or collectible dealers. It features more than 250 hand craft exhibitors and original artists but still draws thousands of people to downtown Mount Dora as was the original intent of the event organizers. The Mount Dora Spring Festival of Arts and Crafts is presented by Visit Mount Dora.

The Council of 101 welcomed the spring season once again with its annual springtime fundraiser — Art in Bloom. The event ran from March 24-26 at the Orlando Museum of Art and brought visitors a museum-wide kaleidoscope of breathtaking floral arrangements inspired by works from the Orlando Museum of Art’s permanent collection and current exhibitions. From avid collectors to novices, all were thrilled with the selection of original art by some of Central Florida's most talented artists featured in the Silent Auction. There were also curated antiques, lifestyle events and design workshops that inspired visitors of all ages.

Everyone is a fan of something, and MEGACON Orlando was the place to celebrate all things pop culture. Attracting hundreds of thousands of fans each year across four big days, MEGACON Orlando is one of North America's largest Comic, Sci-Fi, Horror, Anime, and Gaming events. From March 30-April 2, fans got autographs and photos with their favorite guest, watched professional comic artists battle it out in popular Sketch Duels, learned from “How To” workshops, and took photos with their favorite costumed characters. With over 400,000 square feet of shopping, MEGACON was also a great place to buy unique gifts. This year’s event featured stars from Star Wars, Harry Potter, Game of Thrones, and The Mandolorian along with many others.

Aloha Orlando! The time came to dip our toes in the sand again for the second annual Luau at Boxi Beach on March 31, 2023. Held in the sand volleyball courts, guests were transported to the tropics and entertained by hula dancers and fire knife dancers while listening to the sounds of Tahitian drums, guitar and ukulele. With their tickets, guests also got access to the VIP Boxi Beach area and bar and received a welcome cocktail and lei. They were also able to purchase additional pork specialties from the pig roast or specialty items from the Boxi Park containers. DJ Cierra was also on hand to keep the party going long after the feast was over!

Beauty Trends of the Month

April is one of the best months of the year, the change in season allows for plenty of outside activity and get-togethers, because the weather is perfect. The Easter season is when families get together and go on vacation. That is one of the reasons I make sure to always look stylish, wear the colors that are trending and look chic. Let me give you a list of what’s trending now for this spring season.

Eyelash Extensions are quickly becoming more and more popular these days. They are individual lashes, made of silk, mink, or something synthetic, that are attached to your existing lashes semi-permanently. If you’ve ever dreamt of waking up with beautiful lashes but without that ring of leftover mascara dangling, eyelash extensions are the solution. It works for me.

Here are a few reasons I personally recommend them.

1. Time Saver

Not only will eyelash extensions help you look much more “put together” when you roll out of bed, but they can also save you lots of time. If you wear mascara and eyeliner almost every day, eyelash extensions will save you time spent in front of a mirror.

2. Beauty

Eyelash extensions add volume to the natural lash line and can lift the face and make people appear more youthful. Today’s beauty standards applaud long, thick eyelashes, and with extensions you can enhance your natural beauty without the use of makeup or other beauty products.

3. Does Not Damage

Putting extensions on your eyelashes is not an aggressive process and wearing them doesn’t damage your natural lashes at all.

There’s a perfect spot located in Winter Park, I highly recommend, The Belle Saint, professional service and reliability.

Soft pearly whites, light pink tones, nude colors

Neutral / Pastel Nail Color - Neutral colors are both classic and chic and are being worn on today’s fashion runways and modeled in magazine spreads. Whether your choice is long oval-shaped nails or short squared tips, neutral or pastel nails colors are the hottest ticket in town.

While color is always in fashion during the spring, neutrals look beautiful as well. Soft pearly whites, light pink tones, nude colors, and gentle beige and gray tones always look good. Spring is all about soft colors. It’s always fun to do a bright pink or red – trust me I get it – but good neutral nail colors will go with literally any outfit you choose. The beauty of a nude or neutral nail polish is that it allows you to be bold with your outfit choices without having to worry about it clashing.

When it comes to my nails, I always go simple and chic. I highly recommend Nails by Arelis, located in Winter Park.

Moisturizing Your Skin - You never can ignore taking care of your skin. Moisturizers address the importance of making sure the skin is getting all the water it needs to fight dryness and dehydration, premature signs of aging and environmental damage. Moisturizing is about trapping and sealing in moisture to build the skin’s protective barrier, prevent water loss and keep the skin soft and smooth. This is very important during the warmer dryer months of spring.

Here are some reasons why I cannot leave my house without moisturizing my skin.

1. Preventing dryness

Warm weather air conditioning or indoor heat are all environmental factors that can suck the moisture right out of your skin. That’s why moisturizing is so important. It not only replaces moisture that’s already been lost, but helps prevent future loss.

2. Slowing the Signs of Aging

For me this is crucial. Hydrated skin is younger-looking skin. It’s never too early to start preventing future fine lines and wrinkles. And that plump, firm feeling you get after giving your face a dose of hydration is helping to slow down the process.

3. Help Fight Acne

It might seem strange to add more moisture to already oily-prone skin, but it makes sense. When your skin gets dry, it sends a message to your glands to produce more oil that can clog your pores and cause breakouts. So, if skin is properly hydrated, it can help stop it from producing more oil than it needs.

4. Soothe Sensitive Skin

Got red, irritated skin? Have dry, itchy patches? Sensitive skin needs extra special care. Look for a moisturizer that has soothing ingredients like aloe vera, chamomile, oatmeal, and honey, just to name a few.

HEALTH & BEAUTY | ORLANDOSTYLEMAGAZINE.COM

If you are looking for a good moisturizer I highly recommend, the natural skin care product line, “INNATA - Inspired By Omayra La Bella”.

Wearing Linen Clothing - It’s no coincidence that as the weather gets warmer, linen clothing hits the shelves. There are several benefits to this relaxed yet elegant fabric that makes it perfect for the Spring, especially on Easter Sunday. So many benefits to why I wear linen clothing.

1. Durable

Linen is known as the world’s strongest natural fiber and is far more durable than cotton.

2. Easy to care for Linen fabric can be machine washed.

3. Hypoallergenic

Linen is very breathable, allows air to move around freely and thus, releases moisture very fast.

4. Suitable for every season

Flax, from which linen is made, is used to make home insulation products. The reasons behind it are the same as with clothing: flax/linen are natural insulators and can release excess humidity.

5. Versatile

Whether you’re dressing up for a formal event, corporate environment, or aiming for a more casual, low-key look, linen fabric has an innate ability to compliment every occasion.

6. Sustainable fashion

Linen fabric is also recyclable and biodegradable, meaning you won’t be adding to the growing piles of textile waste all over the world.

7. Comfortable to wear

Linen clothes are usually designed to have a loose fit making them perfect for people of all ages, sizes, and shapes - wearing linen can never be a bad choice! Linen, being lightweight, breathable, moisture-wicking, and thermoregulating, is at the top of the pyramid of comfortable clothing. I usually purchase my linen attire in Macys at Millennium or Target.

Remember the important thing is for you to always feel comfortable and be confident in yourself. Always take care of yourself to look radiant. These are just some ideas to help bring it all out.

AFFIRMATIONAL APRIL

Are you someone who believes in the power of affirmations and uses them regularly? Or are you reading this thinking, what in the world even is an affirmation?

Either way, you’ve come to the right place. We are proclaiming this month as Affirmational April. Why? Because it feels like a good time to do so. We’re three months into 2023 and welcoming spring again. Yet, the year is still young which gives us continued hope to accomplish the goals and desires we set forth for ourselves. That’s where our friend affirmation comes in.

Simply put, affirmations are positive thought statements used to counteract negative thoughts or self-limiting beliefs. People use affirmations to affirm their desires in manifesting, or working toward a desired outcome.

With that said, affirmations can help with attaining what once seemed unattainable. They work in conjunction with self-validation and one’s ability to maintain a specific ask with a go-getter mindset. Whether that ask be a loving relationship, new career, a business, to travel, or whatever else we desire for our future.

Here are some reasons to consider incorporating affirmations into a continued routine or process when trying to maintain a desired outcome:

1. Affirmations are actually backed by science. So, not exactly "woo-woo." Instead, affirmations are backed by the well-established phycological theory. The selfaffirmation theory (Steele, 1988), supports the key idea that we can maintain a sense of self-integrity by affirming what we believe in positive ways.

2. Mentioned in pychology.com, self-integrity relates to self-efficacy - our perceived ability to control moral outcomes and respond flexibly when our self-concept is threated (Cohen & Sherman, 2014).

3. Affirmations help boost self-esteem, and create a flow of motivation.

4. Trying to make a change in lifestyle with a new habit? Affirmations can help keep a frame of mind consistent

5. Many studies have found that practicing affirmations can reduce stress levels.

The kinder you are to yourself, the likelier you are to have a happier lifestyle. The benefits of affirming go beyond just exhibiting positive statements; it has an overall effect on the mind-body’s correlation to wellbeing. When creating affirmations, make sure to implement authentic key statements. These statements should be true to your self-beliefs and in alignment with your values. These can also be statements you would like to believe about yourself such as, “I believe I am working towards the right path for myself.”

Another helpful way to create affirmations that are suitable for where you are and would like to be, is to simultaneously use a gratitude journal. Pulling words of gratitude into your feeling statements can create an authentic sense of purpose and flow as well. All-in-all, affirmations can bring your day just the right dose of positivity, selfintegrity and maybe even a boost of serotonin.

SELF-LOVE IS NOT SELFISH

Everything starts with you. We must “love ourselves” first before we can share love with others. We hear it all the time: “LOVE YOURSELF”. We know how important it is, it’s the most beneficial thing we can do. But what we sometimes don’t hear, or fail to understand, is how. Or we may think to love ourselves first, is selfish because we were taught to do things ,and love others first. It’s actually the opposite, if you don’t know how to care or love yourself first, how can you love others?

What is self-love? Self-love is having a relationship with yourself that has compassionate, kind , patient , tolerant, and curious. It means you are nice to yourself, and are authentic with yourself in both the negative and the positive. You have the ability to take accountability or responsibility for mistakes you made, constantly improving your growth. Selflove is about giving yourself grace and forgiveness when you inevitably make mistakes. It is about believing in yourself, trusting yourself, asserting boundaries and overall deeper connection to yourself. The relationship you have with yourself is the only truly life-long relationship, self-love is the most important love of your life.

It can be more challenging to understand how important loving yourself is. However, even more challenging is what can happen when you don’t offer self-love. Your happiness is dependent on how you take care of yourself and self-love has been linked to increased resilience, and capacity to see things from new perspective. When you put yourself last or fail to love yourself, you will notice increased stress, anxiety and reactivity to the little things that you may

have ignored beforehand. Things will feel more difficult for you to handle, this can lead to overwhelming, and your feelings depleted and overall you will be unhappy.

Here are some basic steps to practice self love everyday:

1. Recognize and accept your emotional state

2. Take time for yourself

3. Get enough sleep

4. Exercising

5. Eating right

6. Using self-talk

7. Forgiving yourself

8. Challenging a negative story about yourself

9. Forgiving yourself

10. Committing to self-love

11. Don’t compare yourself to other people

12. Set boundaries

13. Surround yourself with supportive and loving people

14. Change a negative mind wset

15. Keep a gratitude journal

16. Give yourself a compliment

17. Practice mindfulness

18. Celebrate all your wins (big or small)

Self-love leads to better:

1. Happiness

2. Self-acceptance

3. Self-esteem

4. Self-awareness

5. Self-forgiveness

6. Self-discipline

7. Self-worth

8. Self-control

Mobility Exercise

AND WHY YOU SHOULD TRY IT

Mobility exercises are movements that aim to improve the range of motion of your joints and muscles. These exercises can include stretching, yoga, Pilates, and various bodyweight exercises. While they may not be as highintensity as traditional strength training or cardio workouts, mobility exercises are an essential component of any wellrounded fitness routine. Here are some of the top benefits of incorporating mobility exercises into your daily routine

HEALTH & FITNESS

‘‘

JUST REMEMBER TO START SLOWLY, LISTEN TO YOUR BODY

IMPROVED

RANGE OF MOTION:

As we age, our muscles and joints tend to become tighter, which can limit our ability to move comfortably and easily. By incorporating mobility exercises into your routine, you can help loosen up tight muscles and improve your overall range of motion. This can make everyday activities, such as bending down to tie your shoes or reaching for something on a high shelf, much easier and more comfortable.

INJURY PREVENTION:

When your muscles and joints are tight, you’re more prone to injury, whether you’re engaging in physical activity or just going about your daily life. By improving your range of motion, mobility exercises can help reduce your risk of injury. For example, if you have tight hip flexors, you may be more prone to lower back pain or knee injuries. Incorporating exercises that target your hip flexors can help alleviate this tightness and reduce your risk of injury.

BETTER POSTURE:

Poor posture can contribute to a wide range of health problems, including back pain, neck pain, and headaches. Mobility exercises can help improve your posture by increasing your awareness of your body and helping you move with more ease and alignment. For example, exercises that target your upper back can help counteract the effects of hunching over a computer all day, while exercises that target your core can help you maintain a strong, upright posture.

REDUCED STRESS AND TENSION:

Many mobility exercises incorporate deep breathing and relaxation techniques, which can help reduce stress and tension in the body. By focusing on your breath and tuning into your body, you can help calm your nervous system and promote feelings of relaxation and well-being. This can be especially helpful if you’re dealing with chronic stress or anxiety.

IMPROVED ATHLETIC PERFORMANCE:

Whether you’re a serious athlete or just enjoy staying active, mobility exercises can help improve your performance by enhancing your range of motion, balance, and coordination. For example, exercises that target your hips can help improve your squat form, while exercises that target your shoulders can help improve your overhead pressing ability. By incorporating mobility exercises into your routine, you can help take your fitness to the next level.

Overall, mobility exercises are an essential component of any well-rounded fitness routine. Whether you’re looking to improve your physical health, reduce stress, or enhance your athletic performance, there are many benefits to incorporating these exercises into your daily routine. So why not give them a try and see how they can benefit you? Just remember to start slowly, listen to your body, and always prioritize proper form and technique.

Interest in plastic surgery is at an all-time high, but stigma and misinformation still surround the industry and the patients. Welcome to Life in Plastic, a new series by Allure that aims to break down cosmetic procedures and provide all the information you’ll need to make whatever decision is right for your body — no judgment, just the facts. Here, we’re covering everything you need to know about the surge in neck lifts among a younger demographic.

Ninety percent of women have cellulite. It’s 100 percent normal — and completely natural. It is nothing more than an interaction between two body parts (fat meeting connective tissue, like collagen, under the skin). But as part of that 90 percent, I realize how cellulite brings with it mixed emotions, from ambivalence to embarrassment.

In the past, there’s been a feeling of helplessness. For those who want to get rid of their cellulite, a lot of the options have been unappealing, delivering unimpressive results via invasive procedures that break connective tissue using scalpels or heat from lasers. And topical creams merely minimize the appearance of dimples, not to mention the results are fleeting. So it’s a big deal that the FDA has approved the first injectable for cellulite, called Qwo. “It’s an exciting, less invasive treatment option for women with good skin firmness, meaning not loose skin, who are also bothered by dimpling from cellulite,” says Shari Marchbein, M.D., a clinical assistant professor of dermatology at NYU School of Medicine.

HOW QWO WORKS

But these injections are not always a quick fix. While some patients notice improvement after one or two appointments, it usually takes three treatments over the course of three months to see full results. Most patients receive 12 shots (one vial) in a session (taking 10 minutes or less) and each injection is said to feel similar to a Botox pinch. The material that’s being injected is collagenases, an enzyme known to break peptide bonds in collagen. Inject it into cellulite and it is believed to go to work dissolving the collagen bands (via a chemical process called Enzymatic Subcision and Remodeling) that fat was protruding through.

If there are no bands of collagen for the fat to press through then there is nothing to cause dimpling. “It is a permanent fix for the treated area,” says D. Shafer, M.D., a plastic surgeon, noting that it is different from invasive procedures where there is a possibility the bands can reconnect, causing a recurrence of cellulite.

In clinical trials on Qwo, there was a two-level improvement of cellulite on the Photo-numeric Cellulite Severity Scale — basically, moderate and severe cellulite was drastically improved, but not one hundred percent erased.

Qwo is FDA approved for use in the butt, but some dermatologists and plastic surgeons are also using it off-label on the thighs with similar results. There is one likely side effect, but its temporary. Every single patient will get bruises. Blood vessels around the area get a little leaky, causing internal bruising. It’s nothing dangerous, but it can look dramatic for around two weeks.” Even so, the long-term results seem to outweigh the temporary bruising. Besides smoothing things over, for many, Qwo is injecting a boost of confidence.

BENTLEY BATUR

Bentley has revealed a new two-door grand touring coupé, the Bentley Batur, limited to just 18 series pieces, marking the start of a design revolution for the luxury car brand. The Batur was created by Bentley’s Director of Design, Andreas Mindt and his team, and is a showcase of the new design DNA that will guide the design of Bentley’s future range of Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs). The Batur is the latest project by Bentley’s in-house bespoke and coachbuilding division, Mulliner, and follows the Bacalar, which relaunched coachbuilding at Bentley. The Batur, like its predecessor, is named after a beautiful natural body of water, Lake Batur, in Kintamani, Indonesia, and provides nutrient-rich water to both local hot springs and agriculture.

The Batur will be the most powerful Bentley ever, with a 740+ PS version of the hand-assembled 6.0-litre twin-turbocharged W12 engine, matching the most advanced Bentley chassis ever with Speed-tuned air suspension, electric active anti-roll control, eLSD, four-wheel steering, and torque vectoring. All 18 examples of the Batur have already been reserved, with each customer able to specify the colour and finish of practically every surface of the car.

The Batur was unveiled at Bentley’s Signature Party at Monterey Car Week, with Bentley’s Chairman and Chief Executive, Adrian Hallmark, stating that the Batur showcases the design direction that the brand is taking for its range of BEVs. Andreas Mindt and his team have reimagined the classic Bentley design cues into a stronger, bolder design that remains both elegant and graceful. The Batur previews the design principles driving the development of the company’s first BEV, due in 2025, and the families of cars that follow.

The design of the Batur is the work of Bentley’s Director of Design, Andreas Mindt, and his team, including Head of Exterior Design, Tobias Suehlmann, and Head of Interior Design, Andrew Hart-Barron. The Bentley design DNA that has driven the creation of the Continental GT, Flying Spur, and Bentayga families has been revolutionised for the Batur, introducing new themes, approaches, and details. The new form language defines a new chapter for Bentley design as part of the brand’s Beyond100 transformational journey to become the world’s leading sustainable luxury mobility company.

The Batur is the first part of a celebration of the W12’s extraordinary power, torque, and refinement as the engine enters its twilight years as part of Bentley’s Beyond100 transformation journey to being fully electrified. The 18 lucky customers who have already reserved their Batur will enjoy an unrivalled co-creation experience with the Mulliner Design team in specifying their cars. The Batur is the next step in Mulliner’s expansion, demonstrating the demand for bespoke vehicles that combine luxury and performance in ways that only Bentley can deliver.

Strange Celebrity Side-Hustles

From clothing brands to beauty product empires, the world of the rich and famous is often saturated with announcements of new projects and sidehustles. Oftentimes these business ventures make perfect sense such as Grammy award-winning rapper Jay-Z owning a streaming platform, but of course that’s not always the case. Here are several celebrities who ventured into random businesses and strange side-gigs that put their creativity on full display… but also left us with more questions than answers.

From Thelma and Louise to Dead Man Walking, five-time Academy Award nominee Susan Sarandon has had quite the decorated acting career. Most people dream of achieving half her level of success, but apparently making it big on the silver screen still wasn’t enough of an achievement for the actress. In 2009, Sarandon and three business partners founded a ping pong bar in Manhattan called SPiN. The venue featured a unique blend of drinks, a dance floor, great bar food, and of course the game in question itself. If you’re like me and had no idea there was a market for Ping Pong bars, then you’re in for a surprise! SPiN was a complete success with eight more locations having opened up across North America, including one in Toronto.

Rob Lowe

Depending on your age you may know Rob Lowe from his acting debut in the 1983 film The Outsiders or more recently, from his unforgettable roles in beloved TV shows like The West

Wing or my personal favorite, Parks and Recreation. Needless to say, Lowe has enjoyed quite a successful career in movies and television over the years. In 2017, however, he decided to venture into an entirely different field of the entertainment industry. The Lowe Files was a reality TV show that featured the actor and his adult sons, Edward Matthew and John Owen, driving around the country looking for ghosts. From the legend of Bigfoot to UFO sightings and more... Lowe described the venture as “Anthony Bourdain in a blender with Scooby-Doo,” but a review in the Hollywood Reporter preferred to call the show an “inexplicable” vanity project. Unsurprisingly, it only lasted for one season on A&E.

Although she’s more wellknown today as the wife who’s name should be kept out of everybody’s mouth, Jada Pinkett Smith has actually been a Hollywood starlet since the early 90s when she made her debut in A Different World. You may even remember her other notable roles in The Matrix, The Nutty Professor,

CELEBRITY SOUP
36 | ORLANDOSTYLEMAGAZINE.COM

Madagascar and much more. Knowing about her extensive acting career, it may come as a surprise to learn that she has also thrived as a musician, and unlike her family, I’m not talking about pop or hip-hop. In 2002, Pinkett Smith stepped away from acting and formed the nü-metal band Wicked Wisdom. The band produced two relatively successful studio albums before disbanding in 2007 and even played at Ozzy Osbourne’s Ozzfest in 2005 alongside headliners like Black Sabbath and Iron Maiden.

Garth Brooks

While Jada Pinkett Smith’s venture into music may have seemed entirely random, the next celebrity on our list was already a successful musician who made the attempt to venture into an entirely new genre altogether. In 1999, country music superstar Garth Brooks was one of the best-selling artists of all time with over 95 million album sales under his belt. You would think that type of success would be enough to keep a man happy, but Brooks wanted to try his hand at something else and managed to do so by creating a fictional Australian rockstar alter ego named Chris Gaines. In order to channel his new personality, Brooks lost weight, grew his hair out, and released the 90s pop album Garth Brooks in...the Life of Chris Gaines which didn’t feature a trace of Brooks’ signature twang. Somehow— literally, I have no idea how this was possible—the album reached No. 2 on the Billboard 200 and even landed him a No. 5 spot on the Billboard Top 40 with the single “Lost in You.” In spite of the album’s success, the critical reception to Chris Gaines was unsurprisingly negative. Brooks ultimately ended the venture and avoided discussing his alter ego for over twenty years before finally admitting, “My ribs are still sore from getting the s*** kicked out of me for it.”

Jeremy Renner

From portraying Marvel’s Hawkeye to Oscar-nominated roles in The Hurt Locker and The Town, Jeremy Renner is known for a lot of things and I bet you didn’t know that one of them was for developing an app. In 2017, Renner released a self-titled app simply titled “Jeremy Renner.” A corresponding press release described the app as “groundbreaking” and as an opportunity for the actor’s fans from all over the world to interact with him directly. Fancy press release aside, one outlet saud the reality was that the app “looked almost identical to Instagram if the only content on Instagram was about Jeremy Renner and the interface only worked 60% of the time.” Users also complained that the competitions were always rigged and that the in-app purchases were nothing but predatory cash grabs from fans. Unfortunately, the app’s many issues eventually became too much and Renner ultimately shut down the app in 2019.

Scarlett Johansson

Much like Jeremy Renner, fellow Marvel Cinematic Universe star Scarlett Johansson has also enjoyed a successful acting career over the years. Some of you may have even seen her movies in the theater while munching on a bag of buttery popcorn and though popcorn has little to do with acting, Johansson actually took a surprising venture into the popcorn business way back in 2016. The actress decided to open a Parisian popcorn shop called “Yummy Pop” which had been a longtime dream for her and her family. Created as a joint effort with her then-husband Romain Dauriac, the shop featured a variety of delicious flavors ranging from “Canadian maple” to “truffle parmesan” and celebrated long lines well into the first year after its opening. Unfortunately, Yummy Pop closed shortly thereafter and Johansson went back to fighting crime on the big screen and letting us buy our own (overpriced) popcorn from the theaters.

SUSTAINABLE SHADES!

Eco-friendly materials such as bamboo, recycled plastics, and bioacetate are being used to create stylish and sustainable sunglasses. These materials are not only environmentally friendly but are also durable and longlasting.

In terms of style, classic designs such as aviators and wayfarers are popular in sustainable eyewear, with neutral colors and simple shapes providing a timeless look. However, there are also plenty of unique and modern designs available, including round and geometric shapes and bold, oversized frames.

CURRENT JEWELRY TRENDS

Mix & Match!

Jewelry trends are ever-changing, and 2023 is no exception. Here are some of the current trends that are making waves in the fashion industry.

Sustainability is a significant trend in jewelry design, with designers using recycled materials such as gold and silver to create eco-friendly pieces. Statement jewelry continues to be popular, with oversized earrings and chunky necklaces making bold statements. These pieces add a pop of color and texture to any outfit and are perfect for a night out.

Delicate jewelry is also having a moment, with dainty necklaces, rings, and bracelets being perfect for everyday wear. Minimalist designs are also on-trend, with clean lines and geometric shapes being particularly popular.

Pearls are another jewelry trend that have made a comeback in recent years. From classic pearl studs to modern designs

featuring pearls in unexpected ways, this timeless gemstone is a must-have for any jewelry collection. Baroque pearls, in particular, have become a favorite among designers, with their unique shapes adding a touch of whimsy to any piece.

Mixing and matching different metals and textures has also become a popular trend in jewelry design. Combining gold, silver, and rose gold creates a modern, edgy look, while adding textures such as hammered or brushed finishes adds depth and interest to any piece.

In conclusion, these are just a few of the current trends in the world of jewelry. Whether you prefer bold statement pieces or delicate, minimalist designs, there’s something for everyone. With sustainability being at the forefront of fashion, eco-friendly jewelry is also becoming more popular. No matter what your style, there is a piece of jewelry out there for you.

STYLING BELTS...

The perfect accessory

Belts are an essential accessory for men’s fashion, serving both a practical and aesthetic purpose. A well-chosen belt can add the finishing touch to any outfit, whether it’s a casual or formal look. The key to selecting the perfect belt is to consider the style, color, and material that best complements the outfit. Leather belts are a classic choice, while woven and braided belts offer a more casual look. With so many options available, it’s easy to find a belt that not only complements your style but also provides functionality and durability for years to come.

DEAR MEN’S FASHION... Add a pop of color!

With the arrival of spring and summer, it’s time to bring some color into your wardrobe. Incorporating small pops of color can be an easy and subtle way to switch up your style.

Start by adding a colorful tie or pocket square to a classic suit, or a colorful watch band or bracelet to a casual outfit. If you’re feeling more adventurous, try adding a patterned shirt or pants with a colorful print to your wardrobe. These pieces can add interest and personality to your outfit without being too bold. For those who are

daring, go for a statement piece like a bright blazer or colorful sneakers. The key is to keep the rest of the outfit simple and neutral to allow the pop of color to stand out. By incorporating small pops of color into your wardrobe, you can easily elevate your style for the season while maintaining a classic and timeless look.

Don’t be afraid to experiment with different colors and combinations until you find the look that suits you best.

EYEGLASSES... A FASHION STATEMENT?

Eyeglasses have come a long way from being just a functional necessity. Nowadays, they are not only used to correct vision but also to make a fashion statement. With various frame styles and colors to choose from, eyeglasses have become a trendy accessory for men and women. From vintageinspired frames to bold and oversized ones, eyeglasses can complement any outfit and reflect personal style. Many celebrities and fashion influencers have embraced eyeglasses as a fashionable accessory, making them a musthave item in the world of fashion. So, whether you need glasses or not, consider adding them to your wardrobe for a trendy and stylish look.

Jessi Park Entrepreneur, Visionary, Author

Jessi Park is the founder of two luxury e-commerce brands, Execuluxe, and Elysian Parfums. Her journey to success was not an easy one. As a single mother with two children, she put herself through college while working full-time. After graduating with a degree in Communications & Business from the University of Central Florida, Jessi found herself $65,000 in debt and struggling to make ends meet. She was let go from her corporate job and reluctantly took a job in insurance sales. She also found herself on state assistance, struggling to make ends meet for her family.

However, her determination and hard work paid off, and she quickly became a top producer in the insurance industry, eventually landing herself in the top 1%. Because of her success in insurance sales, Jessi found herself drawn to the world of e-commerce and launched 2 brands.

Jessi knew that breaking into the luxury handbag market without a background in fashion would be difficult, but she believed in herself and her ability to succeed. Starting an e-commerce brand from scratch is never easy. Many people told her that she would fail and that they would never buy a bag from an unknown brand. However, Jessi remained focused on her goals and kept moving forward.

She spent countless hours building a strong brand identity, creating a website that reflected her vision, and sourcing high-quality products.

What sets Execuluxe apart from other luxury brands is its unique patent-pending roller brief design, which allows the bag to convert from a roller brief to a weekender.

Elysian Parfum, launched in Nov 2022. The fragrances are a tribute to Jessi’s late sister Jenni, naming the brand after her children, Evan and Elysia. Jessi hopes that when they turn 18 they will want to work for the company and have partial ownership.

Jessi’s story is a testament to the power of following your passions, believing in yourself and your product, and never giving up on your dreams. Despite facing many challenges and setbacks, she remained focused on her goals and kept moving forward. Today, she is not only a successful entrepreneur but also an inspiration to many who aspire to achieve greatness in their own lives. Jessi’s journey from a struggling single mother to a successful business owner is a story of triumph over adversity. Her businesses are a testament to the power of hard work, determination, and a never-give-up attitude.

ORLANDO’S CHIROPRACTORS OF THE YEAR 2023

Viscogen

Gerald R. Mattia D.C. has been practicing chiropractic for forty-five years. In his quest to provide clients with the best preventative and therapeutic chiropractic care available, Dr. Mattia studies research along with treatments and technologies from around the world. Consequently, his office houses some of the most cuttingedge technology available: decompression therapy which helps with disc problems in the low back and neck eliminating the need for surgery and class 4 laser to promote healing. These technologies have come to complement the fundamental chiropractic adjustment.

Dr. Mattia has begun VISCOGEN to compliment his chiropractic practice, consisting of non-surgical regenerative therapy for knees and other joints of the body. Exosomes help restore joint strength and mobility without surgery.

Even before becoming a chiropractor, Dr. Mattia’s life has not been ordinary.

At the age of 15 he had been given six months to live. “ I was born with a severe heart condition called aortic stenosis.” People suffering from this condition have an aortic valve in their heart that gradually degenerates and therefore the heart cannot function properly. Heart surgery in the 60s was not as successful as today. He also had bad allergies. His mother was not ready to give up. On a friend’s recommendation, she took her son to a chiropractor. ‘The aortic valve stopped closing by 92 percent and my allergies were gone,” Dr. Mattia said. He was able to live to the age of 35 when he received his first new aortic valve and the success rate of heart surgery was higher.

Dr. Mattia became a chiropractor because of this. He earned his chiropractic degree from New York Chiropractic College and opened a practice in 1977. Dr. Mattia practiced in New Jersey from 1977 to 2001. During that time he received many awards: Chiropractor of the Year 1995 and

Sports Chiropractor of the Year several times. He was appointed to the Board of Chiropractic Examiners, on which he served for six years, by the governor of New Jersey. He was also a Board of Director for the lnternational Chiropractic Association and the Northeast Regional Director. Dr. Mattia has been the president of lnternational Chiropractic association Sports Health and Fitness Council from 1996- 2011 during which he joined Arnold Schwarzenegger every year in Columbus, Ohio for the ICA Fitness Symposium. The Symposium is held in conjunction with the Arnold Sports Festival.

ln 2001 Dr. Mattia retired from his NJ practice and moved to Florida to begin semi-retirement. But the quiet time did not last long. “There were so many people I knew I could help.” All during his career Dr. Mattia has taken care of many athletes from middle school to professional. His love for sports has helped him understand that chiropractic spinal care for athletes is required for better performance and nervous system function. Dr. Mattia has helped many chiropractic college graduates begin their careers by having them work with him and gain experience.

Outside of the office, Dr. Mattia enjoys golf, power-walking, cycling, baseball, and spending time with his grandkids. Dr. Mattia loves to travel, especially to ltaly.

Dr. Mattia’s love for his practice and clients is apparent in his contagious enthusiasm and liveliness. “The best part of my practice is that people come to our practice and get better naturally, without surgery. Touching thousands of lives over the years with the benefits of chiropractic is a professional achievement. “Living to the age of 71 when I was supposed to die at 15 is a personal achievement. A great cardiac surgeon, Kevin Accola M.D., chiropractic care, and prayers saved my life.”

What’s next for Sushi in 2023

As the world continues to embrace sushi as a culinary art form, the sushi industry is constantly evolving and innovating to keep up with changing tastes and preferences. Here are some of the top sushi trends to watch out for in 2023:

Sustainable Sushi

In recent years, there has been a growing awareness of the environmental impact of the fishing industry. As a result, many sushi chefs and restaurants are beginning to prioritize sustainability in their sourcing practices. This means using only sustainably caught fish and supporting fishing practices that are environmentally responsible. In addition, many sushi restaurants are exploring alternative proteins, such as plant-based options, to reduce their reliance on seafood.

Fusion Sushi

Sushi has long been associated with Japanese cuisine, but in recent years there has been a trend towards fusion sushi, which incorporates elements of other cuisines. For example, Mexican sushi might feature ingredients like avocado, jalapenos, and cilantro, while Korean sushi might incorporate kimchi or bulgogi. Fusion sushi is a great way for chefs to experiment with new flavors and textures, and it provides a unique twist on a classic dish.

DIY Sushi

Another trend that is gaining popularity is DIY sushi, which allows diners to create their own sushi rolls at the table. This interactive approach to dining is fun and engaging, and it allows guests to customize their meal to their individual tastes. DIY sushi also provides an opportunity for chefs to showcase their creativity and innovation, as they come up with new and interesting ingredient combinations for guests to try.

Sushi

Burritos

The sushi burrito is a recent trend that has taken the world by storm. Essentially, it is a sushi roll that is made using a larger sheet of seaweed and stuffed with a variety of fillings, like rice, vegetables, and seafood. The result is a hearty and filling meal that is easy to eat on the go. Sushi burritos are a great option for people who love sushi but find traditional sushi rolls too small or delicate.

Gourmet Sushi

As sushi continues to gain mainstream popularity, there is a growing demand for more high-end and gourmet options. This trend is driven by a desire for more luxurious and sophisticated dining experiences. Gourmet sushi might include rare and exotic ingredients, like truffles or caviar, or it might feature elaborate presentations and techniques, like flame torching or smoking.

Sushi Delivery

In recent years, the rise of food delivery services like Uber Eats and Grubhub has made it easier than ever to enjoy restaurant-quality meals from the comfort of your own home. Sushi restaurants are taking advantage of this trend by offering delivery options, making it possible for customers to enjoy their favorite sushi dishes without ever leaving their house. This trend is particularly appealing to busy professionals and families who want the convenience of takeout without sacrificing quality or flavor.

In conclusion, sushi is a dish that continues to evolve and adapt to changing tastes and preferences. Whether you prefer traditional sushi or are excited by new and innovative sushi trends, there is sure to be something for everyone in 2023. From sustainable sourcing practices to gourmet ingredients and interactive dining experiences, the sushi industry is poised for continued growth and innovation in the years to come.
