publisher’s note

> Dear Readers,

Sven J. Bode with Arnold Palmer

We are finally beginning to experience some excitement in the air and this positive outlook seems to be touching every important sector of the spectrum. Stores, businesses and consumers are slowly emerging from a ‘holding’ pattern, which has hovered over the economy for too long. Perhaps this return to normalcy is prompted by the long awaited arrival of the warmth brought on by sunny weather or maybe the ongoing strength in the stock market has begun to renew the confidence that economic growth requires, but one thing’s for sure, we are heading upward and Orlando is leading the way. As people begin spending again, job growth is certain to follow. We welcome the confidence that Cartier Jewelry has displayed in their commitment to advertise with our magazine. Stop in and see all the new, beautiful and stunning pieces Cartier has to offer. You won’t be disappointed! Party time has also resurfaced with everyone wanting to celebrate the newborn optimism with one event after another. One never known to miss a good party, Orlando Style hosted a fabulous “Preview” event at “Crave” with 700 guests attending. Other super successful gatherings included Chillounge at Lake Eola, which drew about 4000 people as well as the opening of the beautiful Zeta Lounge/Bar at the Hilton Bonnet Creek, adjacent to the ‘Waldorf Astoria’. We thank all our readers and VIP’s in giving their support to the rebuilding of our economy and having fun at the same time. Looking ahead, the next big event is near and we encourage you to join one of the

styletome.com

most exciting exhibition shows being launched in our city: “Snap!” Snap! Is a 4-day photographic celebration showcasing the work of renowned international, national and local film professionals as well as new and emerging talent; you won’t want to miss this May 20-23 presentation. For more on this event, check out our exclusive interviews with these 3-world class artist-photographers: Douglas Kirkland, Lionel Deluy and Sinisha Nisevic, along with a sampling of their magnificent images. Our thanks go out to Patrick Kahn for his vision in launching this show in Orlando. (Check out our website StyleToMe.com and click on the “Snap” banner.) Finally, in our attempt to offer some April Fools Day levity, we just want to let everyone know that in our last issue our mention of the ‘subscription renewal’ reward offering and the S.O.S. (‘left-handed readers’ magazine version - southpaws) were both spoofs to hopefully elicit a chuckle from our readers. And, did we ever! P.S. Set a reminder notice on your computer or phone for Orlando Style’s “behind the scenes” photo shoot with the Fox 35 newswomen. It will be aired May 6th at 9AM on Fox 35 “Good Day” show. You don’t want to miss it! Till next time... All the best, <

Douglas Kirkland By Holly V. Kapherr

– Photojournalist Kirkland’s list of celebrity clients is an inventory of Hollywood A-listers for the past 50 years. Most notably, he’s photographed timeless stars Frank Sinatra, Cher and Marilyn Monroe. “Everyone wants to know about Marilyn,” he says, and rightfully so. Kirkland’s provocative pictures of an ultra-glam Monroe twisted in white satin bed sheets became the paragon of the golden age of photojournalism. Later, Angelina Jolie would ask to be photographed the same way, nude in white satin bed sheets, evoking her own version of the icon’s classic photo shoot with Kirkland. Jolie’s favorite shot from that shoot now hangs in her Hollywood home. Inspired by LIFE magazine photographer Gordon Parks, and other photojournalists like Arnold Newman, Irving Penn and Pete Turner, Kirkland reiterates that connection is the most important part of making a photo sing. “These men all had something in common—they could capture a moment in time and you’d remember it forever,” he says. “It’s not about copying someone’s style, it’s understanding what you love about their work and then figuring out how to do it in your own.”

Douglas Kirkland will be doing a lecture and book signing

His recent work with Vanity Fair Italy gave him carte blanche to recreate classic scenes in Italian cinema using actors from the present. “This has been my favorite project so far. It’s been the most exciting to create and discover everything beautiful that Italian people, Italian film and the Italian landscape has to offer,” he says. To create the project, Kirkland worked around Italy in Rome, Torino, Milan and in Cinecittà: Italy’s answer to Hollywood Studio City. On the horizon, Kirkland is compiling a book called Freeze Frame, archiving 50 years of his work in celebrity photography and photojournalism. His work with Australian-born director Baz Luhrmann afforded him some time to work on the set of major motion pictures like Moulin Rouge!, Australia and the opera, La Boheme, which Luhrmann directed.

Kirkland’s graceful style and thoughtful shots has made him a favorite among the star elite. “I like people, and I want to make them look their best,” Kirkland says. “There is something wonderful in everyone, I connect with them for that brief moment in time. I have no tricks. I just want to learn about them and capture something about them that no one has seen before.”

Lionel Deluy By Holly V. Kapherr

– French-born Deluy received his first camera at the age of 13 and was instantly in love. Since then, French photographers Guy Bourdin, Jean-Baptiste Mondino and Helmut Newton have influenced him. He has photographed many icons of music and screen, including Ashton Kutcher, Outkast and Paris Hilton. Deluy’s work is dark, shadowy with a film noir quality about it, which belies his Southern French sunny disposition. “My style on the page doesn’t necessarily represent who I am as a person; it represents what I see in the person I’m photographing,” he says. Deluy’s photos are stark and honest; many are profiles or close-up shots of the subject’s face in a blank stare. “The eyes are what tells something about a person. I focus on the eyes in order to get the most out of the shots I have.” Deluy explains that the celebrities he photographs may not have more than one or two hours for the appointment, so efficiency and art have to combine to make the most of the time. After photographing some of the most beautiful people in the world for over 20 years, Deluy has not been able to come up with a static definition of beauty. “It changes all the time, as soon as I see something beautiful, I know it. It’s totally intuitive,” he says. Lionel’s depiction of something beautiful changes with his mood, and his inspiration is always fluid, never settling on one specific thing. “Beauty in a person is not their physique—it’s what’s inside that will ultimately come through the camera lens,” says Deluy. The edgy quality of Deluy’s photos suits the kind of celebrities he photographs; many rap and hip hop artists as well as darkly comic characters like Kathy Bates. “I have been charmed by many of my subject, but I can’t say that I’ve had a favorite. They are all intensely interesting people and I hope that shows through in my work,” says Deluy. He says that there are days when his work shows more emotion than on other days, “You know when you’ve had a good day, and when you see the right photo, you just know,” he says.

Sinisha Nisevic By Holly V. Kapherr

– High-energy storytelling is a tenet of Sinisha Nisevic’s style. His photographs are young and modern with a classic flair that has endeared him to the likes of Versace and Paul Mitchell as well as the Vogue publications of the U.S., Italy and France. Nisevic specialized in high fashion, and while much of his inspiration come from outside the realm of photography, he also cites Helmut Newton, Guy Bourdain and Richard Avedon as his main influences. Nisevic thrives on movement and motion, as evidenced by his photos. Everything must flow like a storyboard. “Posed, staid pictures are uncomfortable for the person in front of the lens and the person behind it, too.” The energy of movement is what fuels Nisevic’s photo shoots. Most of his photography has an element of motion, whether it’s a model’s hair blowing as she runs, a haute couture evening gown fluttering in the breeze or the position of the body as it moves away or toward the camera. “When choosing the right photos for an editorial or an ad campaign, I look for photos that follow a narrative thread. And if there is a movement, passion and energy while telling the story, even better,” he says. Models are an integral part of his photography—not just wearing the clothes of a designer, but also telling a story with them. “I like performers of any kind,” says Nisevic. “He or she must be able to interpret the story that a garment tells and be able to run with it. They have to be able to act.” In the digital age, where the line is blurred between amateur and professional photography, Nisevic boils down his philosophy on photography to a matter of perspective. “The only thing that matters is creativity; how one looks at the world and the subject matter and how it comes across through the lens,” he says. It’s no surprise that Nisevic’s photos are compared to film, he works, also, as a director. He’s currently working with legendary film producer Robert Evans of Rosemary’s Baby, Godfather and Love Story on a project called “The Stranger at the Palazzo D’Oro.” He’s also written and directed many films on fashion for screens around the world.

One of the most luxurious escapes on the island of Kauai is the new Ko`a Kea Hotel & Resort, which fronts a picturesque bay along the Southside town of Po`ipu Beach. This design-forward resort opened in April 2009 after a multi-million dollar reconstruction by renowned designer Anita Brooks (Four Seasons Hotel in Las Vegas and Red Rock Hotel & Casino). The contemporary design to the resort blends perfectly with its lush tropical surroundings, and each of the 121 guestrooms and suites provide a water view, while the private lanais allow guests to bask in the cool ocean breezes.

Ko`a Kea’s proximity to the ocean is unparalleled, as it sits literally on the sandy banks of Po`ipu Beach, and is geared towards honeymooners and couples looking for an intimate and quiet escape to the islands. The resort’s Red Salt restaurant is quickly becoming one of the hottest tables in Hawaii with its modern twist on Hawaiian cuisine. The executive chef spent months training at the three-star, Michelin-rated El Bulli in Spain. Ko`a Kea’s intimate size provides the island with a unique boutique property catering to an upscale clientele looking to breakaway from the traditional large Hawaiian resorts. Everything from the location, guestrooms, restaurant and spa facility allow for the perfect blend of pampering, amenities and plenty of island charm. Bring home something besides a marriage certificate, and get scuba certified at the resort’s 5-star PADI Dive Center, or, for more experienced divers, join dives to world-renowned spots like Koh Kradan, Koh Mook, and Koh Rock Nok. For guests who forgot to pack their sea legs, they can just relax on the beach and enjoy the waves gently caressing their feet, go elephant trekking, or have a romantic picnic lunch in a nearby rubber plantation. After exploring the coast from above water (and under), couples can learn how to prepare a full Thai meal in a staff-led cooking class, or partake in the art of Kae-Sa-Luk, Thai fruit and vegetable carving. With multiple dining options, newlyweds don’t even need to leave the resort! The all-day dining Leelawadee offers a mélange of international flavors, and at night transforms into a royal Thai restaurant. At the Beach House, guests can sail away on a romantic “daybed boat” and enjoy a wide range of beverages while munching on light snacks to whet the appetite. The resort’s signature restaurant, Acqua, offers classic and contemporary Italian cuisine.

with a terrazzo tub built for two, and a private balcony or terrace. The Anantara Spa, which “floats” above a tranquil pond, offers Anantara’s signature East/West blend of health and wellness treatments, six treatment rooms, a couple’s menu and Jacuzzis. The resort’s Wellness 360 program, a lifestyle concept designed to enhance health, beauty and overall well-being, offers a range of packages that include beauty, de-stress, slimming and detox programs lasting anywhere from 1 up to 14 days. Treatments are tailor-made by the resort’s resident Naturopath, Dr. Gopal, and carried out by highly trained therapists and with a consultation from the Executive Chef. With the Stay 4 Pay 3 package, honeymooners will get four nights for the price of three in their choice of a room or suite, plus daily buffet breakfast. Nightly rates begin at $232 for a Deluxe Terrace Room and $480 for an Anantara Suite (rates do not include applicable government tax and service charge). www.sikao.anantara.com <

Lovebirds might instead opt for Anantara’s Dining By Design, and fashion their own romantic dinner at a location of their choice (beach, forest, herb garden, spa, or in-room) while a personal chef crafts a menu just for you. Most Anticipated Celebrity Weddings This Year! By:Varinia Pereira Read more at: StyleToMe.com

> With 2010 well under way and the summer months approaching, the air is heating up with hot celebrity weddings. When one superstar unites with another sparks are bound to fly, and make for some of the most beautiful, elegant, lavish and over the top weddings in the world. Penelope Cruz and Javier Bardem make for one of the most beautiful international Hollywood couples around. Sharing a similar cultural upbringing and the language of love, the two are preparing to wed this year in their native country of Spain. Penelope has already started the planning process by asking Mick Jagger’s designer girlfriend L’Wren Scott to create her wedding gown, according to reports. Penelope is sure to be radiant if she chooses a dress similar to her burgundy Oscar’s dress. John Krasinski may have just fathered a baby on his hit show ‘The Office,’ but in real life

styletome.com

he hasn’t gotten that far. Krasinski is preparing to marry the beautiful Emily Blunt from ‘The Devil Wears Prada.’ The two are planning a fairytale wedding at an undisclosed tropical location. This beautiful actress and singer has been flashing her gigantic engagement ring all over town since Mike Comrie proposed to her on their Hawaiian vacation. Hilary Duff is glowing with excitement, although she hasn’t found the right dress yet, she told the press, “I want it to be traditional. I don’t want it to be too big and overwhelming, because I’m so small. A big dress would make me look like a big cupcake!” As for Nicole Richie and Joel Madden who have been together for quite some time and now have two children together, Richie says she hasn’t even thought about her dress yet. Richie is a designer, so maybe she’ll create a one-of-a-kind dress for her own wedding.

The young and radiant Carrie Underwood, who recently got engaged to Mike Fisher, is shaking things up a bit for her upcoming nuptials. It turns out they won’t even have a wedding cake; they’re doing cupcakes instead. Although they haven’t announced a date yet, Underwood already knows that she will be ordering her cupcakes from IveyCake in Franklin, Tenn., which is run by Ivey Childers – the wife of Underwood’s bass player, Mark Childers. Underwood told CMT Radio Live, “Ivey makes the most amazing cupcakes in the universe.” Another non-traditional couple that is set to marry this year is singer Katy Perry and actor/comedian Russell Brand. The last time Katy Perry was in a wedding dress was in her ‘Hot and Cold’ music video. Although her ‘50s-esque dress was super hot, her real wedding dress will probably be a bit more tame, considering that the dress in the video converted to a mini skirt. Brand is even

more excited than Perry. Perry told MTV, “He’s a total bridezilla. He’s like a freak, man. You should see — he’s always, like, buying bride magazines. Every time we go out for breakfast he’s like, ‘can we just stop and get a bride magazine?’” Another blushing soon-to-be bride picking up bridal magazines is Calista Flockhart. After eight years of dating ‘Indiana Jones’ star Harrison Ford, they have supposedly set a date to wed in 2010. They are said to be planning a ‘green’ wedding at an environmentally friendly location with organic foods. Probably the most anticipated wedding of 2010 is that of Rachel Bilson and longtime boyfriend Hayden Christensen. The beautiful couple has been engaged since 2008 and rumors of wedding plans have been circulating ever since. They met in 2007 and secretly began dating, there were even rumors of a

secret wedding, however it never happened. Will 2010 be the lucky year for this match made in celebrity heaven? Look for the dresses, venues, food, drinks, décor and reception to be some of the most fabulous productions ever seen at these celebrity weddings in 2010.<

> Located in Miami’s notoriously beautiful South Beach district, the Loews Miami Beach Hotel is most definitely a gorgeous work of art. After the extensive $50 million renovations, this eleven year old hotel looks as though it’s brand new. Upon driving up to the Loews, guests are greeted by a beautiful fountain and friendly and attentive valet staff. Once checked in, take a moment to bask in the beauty of the lobby, which really is an experience in itself. Here you will find the Loews’ diverse dining venues along with a cute little boutique, Splash, which offers designer brands such as Lacoste, along with other traditional toiletries. Sushi SoBe, a new addition to the already lavish dining selections, provides guests with delicious sushi delicacies, sake specials, and even an Asian-inspired dessert menu. There is also Preston’s Brasserie, where guests can get a more traditional meal; the Hemisphere Lounge, a chic area where guests can converse over a cocktail; the poolside Nautilus Bar and Grill, which offers pool and beach services; and SoBe Scoops, a yummy ice cream parlor which will have children and adults alike “screaming for ice cream.” After leaving the enchanting lobby, guests make their way to one of the 790 newly renovated, hi-tech rooms. These rooms were redone with a color scheme in soothing tints of blue-gray, lime green, deep chocolate brown, and goldenrod; all lending a sense of serenity to the rooms. Deep chocolate wood bordered headboards, which adorn white, plush beds, are hand designed with fabrics that are both floral and fashionable; the blue-green colored flowers are set against a cream backdrop, creating an appealing look that catches your eye as soon as you walk in. Bamboo colored wood is used for all of the furniture, which is just as light and attractive as the rest of the room.

The bathrooms have also been completely renovated. A large, marble-lined, glass door showers have replaced tubs. The deep set white sinks are modern looking and have plenty of counter space. Right under the sink is a storage area made of the same bamboo colored wood as the rooms’ furniture, which is where you can find freshly folded towels from housekeeping. The bathrooms also come equipped with flattering lighting.

Hidden throughout these beautiful rooms is a hi-tech system that allows you to do just about anything. All rooms are equipped with doorbells, which are used primarily by housekeeping to see whether or not a guest wants their room cleaned. There is even a switch that alerts everyone that the guest does not want to be disturbed, and motion sensors that tell housekeeping if someone is in the room, just in case they’d forgotten to turn their “Do Not Disturb” light on. On the large desk area, hidden from sight but easily accessible, is a panel of outlets where you can plug in anything from an iPod to a laptop, not to mention multiple other electronic devices. This panel allows all of these electronics to be viewed on the TV screen, so a guest could watch DVDs, listen to MP3s, or even view a larger version of their computer screen. Stepping outside, guests can take in the breathtaking view of the palm tree lined pool area and, a few steps beyond, the gorgeous white sandy beach. If lounging by the pool or in a cabana on the beach doesn’t sound relaxing enough, stop by the hotels Elemis Spa for a facial or massage, or even the fitness center for a jog. The Loews Hotel truly combines beauty, convenience, and relaxation perfectly. This newly renovated hotel will knock you off your feet and have you relaxing in no time. So lounge by the pool, grab a drink from Nautilus, and bask in its beauty. LoewsHotels.com/MiamiBeach <

Health & Beauty

The Stylish Bride By: Carolyn Brundage Read more at: StyleToMe.com

> I’ve been a fan of florals and fashion since the long lost days of SATC on HBO. And while I’ve retired my favorite peony pins and honeysuckle headbands in years past, the flower is back once more as the accessory de rigeur for the blossoming bride. Designer Chrystal Lynn Paasch’s handcrafted jewelry is a cult favorite but when Paasch created a custom hair comb for her own wedding, she unwittingly expanded her business model. The Cranberry Hair Comb ($23) boasts a sheer organza-like fabric that resembles the delicate petals of a perennial. Shop the collection and order custom pieces at www.chrystalynjewelry.com. Brooke Galardi offers custom bags as well as far-from-cookie-cutter floral clutches online at www.beegeebags.com. Flower power reigns supreme at the site where clutches aplenty are bejeweled with chic buds in a rainbow of hues. I adore the “Sprung Up Pink” clutch ($92); a poppy adorned bag in ecru with the image of an oversized flower on one side and a petite bud on the other. And, for brides seeking something blue, the interior of the clutch is awash in rich blue silk.

Many a bride has spent many a sleepless night agonizing over her wedding details but when the wedding day rolls around, every bride wants to appear bright-eyed and blissful.

styletome.com

Kenneth Jay Lane’s collection of rings, bracelets, necklaces and beyond makes a statement. For the bride-to-be, this Pearl Flower Necklace screams modern romance. The 19-inch necklace in satin gold features glass pearls and swarovski crystal flower details. Get it for $210 at ShopBop.com.

Pretty Woman

Style aside, every bride-to-be aims to glow on her wedding day. The key is to start— and stick to—a solid beauty routine months before the big day. Facials, injectables, even brow shaping and hair color should be in place long before you’re headed to “I Do.” But when it comes to Wedding Day beauty, some tips and tricks are true blue. Make-up Artist Jemma Kidd, author of Jemma Kidd Make-Up Masterclass and founder of London’s Jemma Kidd Make-Up School, reminded me that it’s crucial to apply makeup that looks natural and classic, to avoid looking “dated” in wedding photos a few years from now. And to achieve a look that is classically pretty, Kidd recommends calling upon a neutral palette, explaining that your big day is not the time to make a big makeup change by experimenting with glitter and bold colored liners. Many a bride has spent many a sleepless night agonizing over her wedding details but when the wedding day rolls around, every bride wants to appear bright-eyed and blissful. The buff eye pencil from Pencil Me In Cosmetics is a creamy pale green liner that counteracts redness giving the illusion of a bigger, brighter eye. The beige core color can be used above or below the eye to hide dark shadows, any last minute imperfection, and helps to hide the redness from even the happiest of tears ($6.99 at www.pencilmeincosmetics.com). I’m also lovin’ the gloss colors blooming for brides; think rich corals and deep pinks. Girlactik Beauty’s High Tinted Glosses come in so many shades; you may never wear lipstick again. Long lasting and not-too-sticky shades such as “Ooh La La Red,” “Rockstar Gold” and “Orange Twist” keep lips moist and shiny kiss after kiss; buy the gloss for $16 online at girlactik.com. <

> In its 51st year, Winter Park’s oldest and most exalted arts festival took place on March 19, 20 and 21. As a juried fine arts and fine crafts show, The Winter Park Sidewalk Art Festival combines the unique atmosphere of Park Avenue and Central Park in Winter Park, Florida, with a knowledgeable, art-buying public. There is a wide variety of outstanding artwork. Categories include Clay, Digital Art, Drawing and Graphics, Fiber, Glass, Jewelry, Leather, Metal, Mixed Media, Painting, Photography, Sculpture, Watercolor and Wood and many more.

More recently, attendance to the festival usually exceeds 350,000 people for the three-day event.

styletome.com

The Winter Park Sidewalk Art Festival was started by a handful of enthusiasts as a community project to benefit local artists and art lovers. The first festival was held on Park Avenue in March 1960. The festival featured original works of art and, after being advertised for just three weeks before the opening, drew 90 exhibiting artists. Over the next decade, the festival grew to over 600 artists and was spread out over Park Avenue from Fairbanks Avenue to Canton Avenue including all cross streets. For the past 30 years or so, the festival has been contained solely in the park area and currently features 225 artists and 3 emerging artists. A loving art community has created and nurtured a suc-

cessful festival that looks forward to another 50 years in Central Park. More recently, attendance to the festival usually exceeds 350,000 people for the three-day event. The artists compete for 62 awards totaling $67,500. Best of Show is $10,000. Also, there are 10 Awards of Excellence; each is $2,000. There are 20 Awards of Distinction; each is $1,000 and there are 30 Awards of Merit; each is $500. In addition, a $2,500 Award for a Distinguished Work of Art is presented through the Charles Hosmer Morse Museum of American Art. This year the festival had the honor of presenting talented musicians, such as Jazz artist, Peter White, Jazz Flutist, Althea Rene, and Jazz Guitarist, Tim Bowman, to perform throughout the weekend. The Winter Park Sidewalk Arts Festival will continue its annual event of promoting emerging artists, while the nation and Winter Park alike will take on the tradition of representing the culture of diverse art.<

The Pinnacle of British Motoring The Bentley Mulsanne

> Something large, fast, refined and comfortable. This philosophy resonates deeply at Bentley and has, over time, created a legacy that embodies all of these characteristics: record-breaking feats, daring exploits and a host of exquisitely handcrafted and beautifully engineered cars. Now, more than 90 years later, the all-new flagship Bentley Mulsanne embodies W.O Bentley’s passion. It is a powerful and elegant driver’s car like nothing else on the road. Yet this is precisely what has been achieved with the Bentley Mulsanne. Like a powerful athlete that is also a swift and graceful runner, it captures a unique fusion of power, elegance and sporting style. The entire body is sculpted to create rich design contrasts. It appears to be solid, as if sculpted from a single block, yet simultaneously graceful and elegant. Solid yet sleek. Classic yet modern. The design is made to accommodate customized materials, not to reduce their usage. For example, the hand brazing of different thicknesses of steel is required to create that exclusive, seamless, flush-fit

feeling. Imagine, for example, that it takes a full 45 minutes to braze one lengthy section of metal behind the rear doors.

Every major component, from the forged crankshaft to the pistons, are now designed for even better engine response.

That authentic Bentley feel of the new Mulsanne is created through the skills of Bentley’s craftspeople in Crewe. They use the highest quality wood veneers, leather hides and solid stainless steel brightware, yet they start where others stop. Wriggle your feet into the deeper pile carpets, which they specially created to offer an unparalleled level of comfort. To bring out a richer leather smell, Bentley reverted to a traditional tanning process. They are even using ancient cabinetmaking techniques—cross-banding is still cut by hand—and they are the only car maker to use ‘mirror matching’ when applying veneer.

To achieve a significant reduction in fuel consumption and CO2 emissions plus improved refinement and torque, the Mulsanne’s V8 sees the introduction of two new control systems: Cam Phasing and, a first for the flagship motoring sector,Variable Displacement.

Anyone who has experienced the effortless acceleration that arrives regardless of engine speed or gear selection will know just how astonishing the effect can be. With those objectives in mind, the Mulsanne’s engineers considered a variety of engine configurations before settling on a radically re-engineered version of Bentley’s acclaimed 6¾-litre V8.

Variable Displacement imperceptibly powers down four cylinders when cruising with a light load. The moment you press your foot down, however, it seamlessly brings all eight cylinders back into play. Bentley stayed true to the soul of the brand, despite the complexity – from idea to final car. That is why the Mulasanne truley is a flagship for unparalleled quality and attention to detail. <

> Ever wish you had your own personal stylist to help you dress to impress and keep you up to date with all the fashion trends of the season? Orlando Style Magazine met up with celebrity fashion guru, James Aguiar, and got his thoughts on a hot trend of the season...beach weddings. Aguiar is best known for being the witty and charismatic host of the Emmy-nominated television show, Full Frontal Fashion, as well as the host of Where D’Ya Get That? and Style Court. On the programs that he hosts, he educates and rescues women and men who were suffering from fashion faux pas. Aguiar’s most recent endeavor is as the spokesperson for Prime Outlets. With his keen eye on fashion and invaluable advice, you will soon know all the hot tips on how to throw a great beach wedding, what to wear, and fabulous gifts for guests and the bridal party.

James Aguiar

on a hot trend of the season... beach weddings! By: Jennifer Marcus Read more at: StyleToMe.com

styletome.com

Summer is right around the corner along with wedding season, and many brides this year will be celebrating the two by having a beach wedding. Aguiar suggests that because beach weddings are more casual, your fabrics and color choices can reflect this tone. “Men always gravitate towards a khaki cotton suit,” says Aguiar “and their shirt and tie can reflect the bridal party colors.” Suggested colors are coral, turquoise, soft pink, and teal green emulating the colors of the ocean. The women can wear short and full flirty skirts or dresses in softer fabrics. He says to steer clear from the high heel at this type of wedding and go with a strappy sandal or a gladiator style in a metallic color. For the MOTB and MOTG, “I’ve always steered these ladies to not wear a dress at all and I recommend a palazzo pant in a soft silk, cotton, or even linen paired with a silk camisole and a sheer flowy blouse. It’s elegant and casual.” And this might surprise you but for the belle of the ball, he says you don’t even need a traditional wedding dress. Look into separates or gowns and dresses in a beautiful soft coral or pink. “Having a beach wedding is already risky, so carry the risk all the

way through and feel amazing in something unique and special.” Aguiar reminds us that we “don’t have to spend a lot of money to look fabulous.” Check out Saks Fifth Avenue Off 5th or Central Florida’s only Neiman Marcus Last Call, both at the Prime Outlets for a look for less. As for the bridal party gifts, he says to think ahead and shop at some of Prime’s other great stores to put together an inexpensive custom beach tote filled with wonderful things. Embroider it with a wedding emblem with their name and a sun or shells on the bag to personalize it. Fill it with flip-flops in the wedding colors, a monogrammed towel, and a nice pair of sunglasses. Gifts for the wedding could include wine glasses filled with the beach sand or sunglasses from the Outlets’ Sunglass Hut. “Shop the Outlets because you can buy a lot for less.” And for those of you who may not be hosting or attending a beach wedding this season but still want to look fabulous, Aguiar offers some of this season’s latest trends for you to stay in style. For men, he says, “Get a Preppy blazer in a seersucker or gingham fabric.” Fashion is steering away from the rock and roll look and more towards preppy. Women, get yourselves a strappy sandal in colors like nude, light buck, sand, beige, or even a pale blue. Pair it with a shirt or dress with small cutouts showing a little skin or wear ruffles. “It’s a very feminine season. Feel Amazing.”<

Orlando Now

Welcoming the World By: Gary C. Sain President and CEO, Orlando/Orange County Convention & Visitors Bureau, Inc. Read more at: StyleToMe.com

> Tourism could be defined as a place in any given community where a cash register opens because an out-of-town visitor brought in money. Everyone knows that visitors open a lot of cash registers here in Orlando, but it’s more than that — tourism is an important connection to the world. From the personal enrichment of travelers themselves to the increasing strength of worldwide economies, tourism has become a shared global experience. That’s why the Orlando/Orange County Convention & Visitors Bureau, Inc. (Orlando/ Orange County CVB) is proud to be host-

ing the U.S. Travel Association’s International PowWow 2010 May 15 – 19 at the Orange County Convention Center. PowWow is the American tourism industry’s largest travel marketplace, and this is our chance to showcase Orlando to the world. Held since 1969, PowWow promotes the host destination, as well as international travel to the United States, by providing participants a venue in which to showcase and sell their US travel products and services to premier international buyers. Last year Miami served as the host community. In 2009, more than 70,000 business appointments were conducted resulting in more than $3.8 billion of estimated business. Orlando last hosted PowWow in 2006. In just three days of intensive business appointments, more than 1,000 U.S. travel organizations from every region of the country and representing all industry category components, along with close to 1,500 international and domestic buyers from more than 70 countries, conduct business negotiations that will result in the generation of more than $4 billion in future travel to the

United States. The host community usually sees about 10 percent or $400 million of business over the three years that follow hosting PowWow. Effects of the incredible volume of business generated from this exciting event will be felt throughout Orlando. Just think; the next time you book a vacation, it may have originated right here in your own back yard. And what better way to celebrate PowWow than observing the 26th Annual National Tourism Week on May 8–16? You may not know it, but as an Orlando resident, someone you know is touched by the tourism industry. In 2008 alone, visitors to Orlando spent $30 billion and our number one industry accounted for nearly 414,000 direct and indirect jobs in the tri-county area. That’s one in every three people you pass on the street or stand in line with at the grocery store, resulting in $14.4 billion in annual earned wages. With figures like that, it’s clear that tourism is the foundation of Orlando’s economy, with a positive impact on citizens and businesses throughout the area.<

>> Inositol May Prevent Lung Cancer in Cigarette Smokers

7 Amazing Inositol Benefits

Listed below are seven of the main benefits of inositol whether using an inositol supplement or providing the body with inositol through diet. • Inositol is vital for hair growth. > Dr. Lee Wattenberg, known as the Father of Chemoprevention, searched for several decades starting in the 1970`s to find naturally occurring compounds that could theoretically prevent cancer and then applied scientific methodologies to research his discoveries. After testing several molecules, he found inositol to have great potential. Using

various study models he was able to demonstrate that inositol could prevent lung cancer. It had previously been documented that a poor diet increased the chances for cancer to occur, but Dr. Wattenberg was among the first to show that a common nutrient could actually prevent cancer, a truly empowering discovery.

• Choline and inositol combine to produce lecithin, which helps to prevent high cholesterol. • Inositol is said to have a calming effect on the nervous system and is therefore being studied for a possible treatment for nerve related illnesses such as depression, panic attacks and Alzheimer’s disease. • Premature babies with respi-

ratory distress symptoms are given inositol and it has been shown to reduce death and disability. • Inositol compounds have demonstrated qualities needed in the prevention and treatment of lung cancer. • An inositol supplement can help to improve nerve conduction velocities in diabetics. • Inositol can be used to treat constipation due to its stimulating effect on the muscular action of the alimentary canal. Note: Take inositol only as advised by a health professional. In some cases, Inositol can negative interactions in combination with other drugs. <

now considering a tummy tuck or liposuction. When should I plan to have my procedure?

A: Many patients seek a plas-

tic surgeon before a special occasion, whether it is a wedding, a reunion, or a beach vacation. I tell patients to plan well in advance of a big event so that their optimal results are being displayed. E-mail your questions or concerns to Charles E. Newman, Jr. M.D. of Newman Plastic Surgery Newman@NewmanPlasticSurgery.com

Q: This summer, I will be in a wedding and want to fit into a smaller dress. Diet and exercise have only gotten me so far. I am

The time between a procedure and recovery varies widely between individuals and also depends on the procedure that is performed. For example, with liposuction you may only miss a day or two of work, but the final results may not be readily apparent for six months. Other contouring procedures such as the tummy tuck may yield

“ready-to-show” results sooner, but usually require more recovery time immediately after the procedure.

Q:

My daughter is getting married. How can I look my best for this special day?

A: Most of what we need to

look our best can be traced to our lifestyle. A balanced diet, regular exercise and getting sufficient sleep will yield results within a few weeks. From this foundation a plastic surgeon or dermatologist can help you with the finishing touches. A good skin care regimen can increase skin tone, reduce sun damage, and make the skin more evenly balanced in color and texture. A light

chemical peel such as the VI peel or TCA can help jumpstart this process. Botox can certainly help you look refreshed and temporarily remove some of the wrinkles around the eyes and forehead. Other injectable products such as Juvederm, Radiesse and Sculptra can enhance your cheeks and lips and restore lost volume to the face. Surgery for the eyelids or face might not fit in your timeframe for now, but may be something to consider down the road. A consultation can help clarify your goals and help you select the proper treatment. <

city news

> Orlando is exciting! From golf tournaments to theme parks to fabulous dining, there is never a shortage of things to do in this town. But, if you’ve found yourself just a little too busy these past few months to really enjoy what Otown has to offer, Orlando Style will fill you in on some of the most talked about and hot events from March and April.

Orlando Style’s Preview Party at Crave

In Case You Missed It News, Events + Gossip from around the city By: Jennifer Marcus Read more at: StyleToMe.com

If you love shopping and finding a bargain, then you have probably been to the Prime Outlets here in Orlando. Heather Bowie from Herbron, KY was awarded a $5000 shopping spree to the Outlets along with a three-day/two-night stay in the Celebrate Your Style Giveaway Sweepstakes. The fierce James Aguiar, fashion expert and host of Full Frontal Fashion and Where D’Ya Get That? also was there to help Bowie dress to impress. Aguiar wasn’t the only one helping out in our city. Mayor Buddy Dyer and Orlando Magic superstar Dwight Howard were encouraging kids at the fourth annual CityKidz! Buddy’s Benefit for Children, which was held in March at Amway Arena. The event helps raise awareness and funds for the Parramore Kids Zone program offering more opportunities to the youth of Parramore. Kids got to experience the first round action of the NCAA Men’s basketball tournament on multiple screens throughout the arena. Everyone had a ball! Across town just days later and on a beautiful sunny day, more sports action was taking place on the golf course at Isleworth Golf & Country Club for the 7th annual PGA Tour sponsored Tavistock Cup. The annual event pairs professional golf members of Lake Nona against their counterparts at Isleworth Golf & Country Club, both premier golf communities in Orlando, in addition to raising money for various organizations around the world. Lake Nona, led by captain Ernie Els, took home the trophy on enemy turf defeating Isleworth, led by Mark O’Meara. Isleworth’s Tiger Woods wasn’t in attendance this year but we’re looking forward to seeing him back at it in 2011!

And locals had a lot to look forward to when they had the chance to experience what a club is like outdoors. Orlando Style was one of the sponsors of the Cointreau Chillounge night at Lake Eola. Some 4,000 people enjoyed in the festivities, which had everything you can imagine: dancing under the stars, fireworks and good food and wine. This fun and enjoyable night benefited the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Central and Northern Florida. And in late April, one great restaurant and one great lounge bar were unveiled. OS paired up for the Grand Opening with Zeta Lounge Bar located at the Hilton Bonnet Creek, located next to the newly fabulous Waldorf Astoria, and Crave Restaurant, located next to Mall of the Millenia. VIP’s at Zeta Lounge enjoyed a jammin’ night with Tammy G and Johnny Mag. Complimentary Spa manicure certificates at the WA by Guerlain were given away to the first 10 ladies to arrive and a raffle was held for rounds of golf at the WA Golf Club, dining certificates to the Hilton and other exciting giveaways. Orlando Style’s Preview Party at Crave Restaurant’s Grand Opening was amazing! Nearly 700 guests were in attendance including actor Quinton Aaron from The Blind Side. OS also announced the winner of the Face 2009 contest, which went to the stunning Gwendalyn. She walked away with thousands of dollars worth of goods from sponsors of Face 2009 and a one-year contract with BeBe Models. Both nights were ones that people won’t soon forget and now we’ve got two more knock out places to add to our list of top Orlando hot spots! Go and check out these awesome places and we’ll see you next month to fill you in!< Know of a not-to-be-missed event? Do Tell!

REALTOR OF THE MONTH DREW ROSS

A seasoned professional and experienced specialist, Drew Ross has carved his niche as a lakefront specialist in the Central Florida market through his unparalleled knowledge of the area’s waterfront property, and by his unwavering devotion to the interests of each client. As a competitive skier aiming at a career in the pro ranks of slalom skiing, Drew left Canada in 1987 at the age of 17 to attend Rollins College, for the warm year-round water temperatures and access to Orlando’s many terrific lakes. “Coming to Central Florida was the beginning of my endless pursuit to become knowledgeable about and familiar with the abundance of the area’s lakes and waterways. As a skier and lake enthusiast, I have always valued an intimate understanding of lake locations, shoreline exposures and many other specifics of our water bodies. Now more than 20 years later, I have had the chance to study and really get to know just about every skiable body of water in the area.”

100 W Plant Street Winter Garden, FL 34787 c 407-383-6497 f 407- 557-3707 drew@therealestatecollection.net www.TheRealEstateCollection.net

While competing professionally through the ‘90’s, Drew continued his academic focus, earning his MBA with a specialization in Finance from UCF, and his law degree from Stetson University. It was several years later, while working on a residential lakefront development, that Drew became involved with residential sales. “I really connected with the process of identifying characteristic matches between a buying prospect and the marketplace; it is both complex and very rewarding.”

Drew believes that a key part of success is truly understanding the interests of a client and going the extra distance so that goals and objectives can be clear. Frequently, he tours clients by boat around the lakes so that they can assess a property’s true merits that can be vital to achieving a successful outcome for the client. Drew emphasizes that optimal real estate acquisition or disposition is complex; it involves a skill set well beyond grasping a property’s intrinsic merits. Contractual and financial proficiency tend to be areas of underestimated importance, yet both are absolutely critical to the success of a transaction. Devotion to his client’s interests requires a commitment to expertise in these facets. “Doing well in this business means continuing to have fun and remaining energetic. I can truly say that I love the Central Florida real estate market, and really enjoy the clients I’ve had the pleasure of representing. The natural beauty of the lakes here and Orlando’s dynamic growth bode well for a terrific future.”

Drew Ross, J.D., MBA 2006 Enniskillen World Cup Champion 2002, 2003 French Masters Champion 1999, 2003, 2007 Pan Am Games Gold Medalist National Record Holder

Kesha

Tik Tok To The Top By: Varinia Pereira Read more at: StyleToMe.com

> If you haven’t heard of Kesha Rose Sebert, also known as Ke$ha, or at least heard her super-catchy song on the radio ‘Tik Tok’ then you’ve probably been living under a rock. Kesha, with her model-like looks and bad girl attitude makes for a spicy and sweet new addition to the pop music scene. She makes no apologies for who she is and doesn’t pretend to be the innocent girl next door. In fact, she even has a song called ‘Bad Girl’s Lament.’ This 22-year-old’s success was not handed to her on a silver platter. She may be young, but she knows what hard work and perseverance are. According to her biography on her Web site, Kesha was determined to

have Prince produce her first album. Two years ago, the unknown singer/songwriter found his address, paid the gardener to let her in the front gate and rode the elevator right up to where Prince was on the third floor of his Beverly Hills home. His security immediately kicked her out, but she was able to give him her demo CD wrapped in a purple bow. Although her brave adventure didn’t result in Prince producing her album, it speaks to the character of this newcomer to the music world. Kesha’s ambition is not the only unique thing about her. Her music is completely different than the current tunes on the airwaves. Its creative mixture of pop singing, rap and dance tempo, make it stand out from everything

else. Kesha says on her Web site, “I want my music to be fun, unapologetic, rowdy, quirky, humorous, and interesting, but with substance behind it. I’m an emotional person underneath all my fronting. I want people to listen to it and feel like they can relate. Many of her songs tell a story relating to her own life and events. ‘Kiss & Tell’ is about how she found out her boyfriend was cheating on her with another pop starlet and ‘Chain Reaction’ is about the story surrounding a guy she met in a club.

By George H. Pope, MD, FACS Breast implant surgery is one of the most popular cosmetic procedures performed in the United States and the goals are always very personal.

Kesha’s love for music began from the moment she was born. Her mother, Pebe, was a former punk-rock singer and songwriter who penned chart toppers for Joe Sun and Dolly Parton. Growing up in Nashville and with her mother’s music career blooming once again, led her to being exposed to recording studios daily and attending a music school in Nashville. Pebe even let Kesha sing back-up vocals on tracks occasionally. Eventually, Kesha fell in love with the country greats – Johnny Cash, Dolly Parton and many others, not for the music style, but for the storytelling lyrics and emotion.

And while enlargement is definitely the most common goal of implants, most people are surprised to learn that very often we use implants to correct uneven breasts or to restore the size and shape of breasts after significant weight loss or pregnancy. Patients with Poland Syndrome, a rare, congenital condition where one of the pec muscles is missing, often have poor breast development or even absence of a breast on the affected side. Breasts are seldom exactly symmetrical, but in some women there is a noticeable difference in size, causing clothes to fit awkwardly.

Kesha quit school at 17, although she was accepted to Colombia, and moved to L.A. where she met Music Producer Dr. Luke, who was currently collaborating with Flo Rida on a little song called, “Right Round. The female vocals you hear on the No. 1 song are Kesha’s. She says when she first heard her voice on the radio, she was screaming and crying with joy that she had finally made it into mainstream music. “I’m working really hard to make this happen and it’s nice to see that hard work pays off. I mean three years ago I was stealing canned vegetables from the dollar store to survive. Now I’m on a No. 1 song, working on my album, and have a little change in my pocket. To be able to take my mom out to dinner is the best feeling in the world, she says in her bio about being the vocalist in ‘Right Round.’

Pregnancy and aging also contribute to the breasts being uneven or asymmetrical. Often patients will come to my office thinking they need a breast lift after pregnancy, when they actually would benefit from implants. We achieve great results that our patients love, and one of the reasons we are able to make such precise, naturallooking changes is the availability of safe, beautifully shaped, realistic feeling implants. We’ve come a long way since the 1890s, when breast augmentation consisted of injecting paraffin into the breasts. Today’s implants come in enough shapes, sizes and textures to allow us to help meet just about any patient goal.

Her own song ‘Tik Tok’ was on the record charts as No. 1 for a record-breaking time period and she released her debut album ‘Animal’ on January 1, 2010. Kesha was working on her album for seven years and wrote every song. Look for a national tour soon featuring this new, beautiful and talented starlet.<

The 2nd house of your horoscope is strong. Put quality above bargain hunting in making purchases. A sports theme with an accent on spectacular hats (both of which are ruled by your birth sign) would be a delight. One Aries bride planned her wedding to coincide with the 7th inning stretch at a baseball game. The ceremony took place at the groom’s favorite (baseball) diamond. So far this happy marriage has been a home run. Lucky days: 2, 10, 18

Mercury transits your birth sign all month. Honeymoon travel plans and assembling the perfect wedding album complete with captions will be a focus. Consider elbow length lace sleeves with a ball gown skirt for the wedding dress. A small veil atop a high coiffure allowing your beautiful earrings to be visible would be appealing. A traditional sit down wedding dinner with white glove service adds to perfect wedding memories. Lucky days: 4, 13, 20

Venus brightens your birth sign through the 19th. It’s a joyful time. Romance and your personal artistic talents are both in evidence. Design the wedding invitations yourself and address them with your own beautiful calligraphy. Consider a strapless gown with an airy tulle skirt. A bouquet of multi color roses with matching wrist corsages for your attendants to complement their rainbow sequence dresses satisfies your love of variety. Lucky days: 5, 14, 22

Your 12th house is strong, ushering in a wistful nostalgia. Study wedding portraits of generations past for inspiration.
