IN CASE YOU MISSED IT

ST Y LE E V E NT S , NE WS & G O S S I P F R O M A R O U ND O R LA NDO By Riesa Pascal

Merry Christmas, Feliz Navidad and Happy Holidays!

Congratulations Orlando, you’ve made it through another year in the City Beautiful. In 2022 we shared festivals, fundraisers, galas, grand openings, marathons and so much more together. Now the countdown to 2023 is just days away and it’s time to start looking ahead to the future. As we jingle all the way into the new year, let’s take a moment to recap some of the most recent events that took place first. Here are all the highlights, just in case you missed it! From October 27th - November 3rd, the Orlando Film Festival took over Downtown Orlando to the delight of film enthusiasts from every corner of The City Beautiful. Remaining true to their stance on being a film festival for filmmakers by filmmakers, this year the Orlando Film Festival celebrated 17 Years of Indie Cinema by screening over 300 films from around the world at the CMX Plaza Cinema Cafe in beautiful Downtown Orlando. With 8 days of movies, panels, parties and more, the mission of the Orlando Film Festival is to support and promote the arts in Downtown Orlando through the medium of film. Through creative, unique and entertaining events, The Orlando Film Festival inspired and celebrated filmmakers while enhancing the movie viewing experience for all. On November 3rd, luxury car lovers from across the country kicked off an exciting weekend of Festival of Speed activities by attending a luxury lifestyle cocktail reception at Fields BMW of Winter Park. Sponsored in part by yours truly, Orlando Style Magazine, the glamorous evening featured multiple premium brand open bars with rare scotch & bourbon stations; exquisite appetizers of crab cakes, bacon wrapped meatballs and spring rolls; and fantastic food stations including everything from a whole roasted pig to a wok station. Guests of the reception also enjoyed music, fine jewelry, collectible timepieces, men’s and ladies’ fashion, fine art, exotic car displays, a charity auction, and much more. Central Florida’s longest-running tradition returned for its 51st year! Located in the heart of downtown, Fall Fiesta in the Park is held on the first full weekend of every November. From 5th-6th, the beloved event brought family and pet friendly arts and entertainment to downtown Orlando while promoting local urban development in the City of Orlando, and through the Orlando Community & Youth Trust. The Lake Eola fall show has consistently been one of the most attended shows in central Florida with hundreds of amazing artists, crafters, and food vendors taking over the streets around Lake Eola Park to enjoy the fall time weather and create community through beautiful art. The 13th Annual Swan and Dolphin Food & Wine Classic at the Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin Hotel returned from November 11th-12th and offered unlimited tastings of culinary and beverage selections from the hotel’s awardwinning restaurants. Along with a vast array of food and beverage options came two premium events: an all-new VIP Champagne & Dessert Party and the return of the Master Sommelier-led Grand Tasting. For the first time in the event’s history, the VIP champagne and dessert reception allowed guests to enjoy champagne and sparkling wines paired with the hotel’s award-winning desserts, all while watching Walt Disney World’s nighttime spectaculars. The exclusive, limited-space Grand Tasting returned for the first time since 2019, featuring a

champagne reception and three flights of elite wines curated by Master Sommelier John Blazon – the former Wine Director for Walt Disney World Resort. On November 12th, the charity-focused culinary festival Cows ‘n Cabs (CNC) returned to Winter Park for their 10th annual event. Cows ‘n Cabs is a country-themed evening full of delicious high-end food, specialty wine and spirits, and craft beer. Curated by ABC Fine Wine & Spirits’ David Larue and Chef John Rivers of 4 Rivers Smokehouse, Cows ‘n Cabs is one of Central Florida’s best food and wine tasting events. The wildly popular fundraiser benefits local charities while highlighting Central Florida’s culinary talent. Hay bales, corn husks and a live country band set the tone as attendees donned their best cowboy duds to sip and sample fare from some of Orlando’s best chefs and wine/beer vendors. One hundred percent of ticket sale proceeds and auction items benefitted charities supporting children in Central Florida including After School All Stars and 4 Roots. It’s that time of year again! Presented by Council of 101, The Festival of Trees returned to the Orlando Museum of Art for its 36th year to fill the halls with all the best that Christmas has to offer from extravagant, designer-decorated trees and breathtaking displays of wreaths to tabletop trees and gingerbread masterpieces. From November 12th-20th, each day was filled with thrills and joy as families, singles and friends came to see the daily entertainment, get an early start on their holiday shopping, enter exciting chances to win prizes, enjoy a quick bite to eat at the Festival Cafe and much more. Events complimenting the festivities included an opening night black-tie optional gala and tree lighting, Breakfast with Santa, a children’s Reindeer Romp Party and the special family weekend focus highlighting an ugly sweater red carpet walk and competition. On November 15th, a pair of celebrity vampires came to Orlando to share their favorite drink with fans and surprise, surprise… it wasn’t blood! Ian Somerhalder and Paul Wesley, stars of the supernatural drama The Vampire Diaries, have a shared passion for bourbon—both on-screen and off-screen— that led to the duo developing and releasing their own brand of whiskey appropriately titled Brothers Bond Bourbon. Guests of the exclusive cocktail party held at Walt Disney World Swan Reserve were invited to enjoy a Brother’s Bond Bourbon specialty cocktail crafted by the stars. Ready to try the bourbon yourself? Brother’s Bond Bourbon can be purchased at ABC Fine Wine & Spirits and other distributors near you. Visit www. brothersbondbourbon.com to learn more and to view cocktail recipes developed by Ian and Paul. The 5th Annual FusionFest Multicultural Festival was held the Saturday and Sunday after Thanksgiving Day in Downtown Orlando to the delight of many! The free, two-day festival draws people from more than 110 different cultures to experience music, dance, food, visual arts, spoken word, games and interactive activities. FusionFest Inc. is a nonprofit organization with the mission to celebrate the people and the many different cultures that make Central Florida awesome by showcasing talents, sharing stories, driving innovation and building community based on respect and understanding. FusionFest is a project of the Orange County Office of Arts & Cultural Affairs.

OUR TOWN

OUR TOWN The Nutcracker

Patrons can expect a welcoming, supportive environment for people of all abilities to enjoy this live ballet performance. Adjustments to sound and lighting effects, including keeping the house lights dimly on, will be made.

TRANS-SIBERIAN ORCHESTRA The Ghosts of Christmas Eve tour. When Paul O’Neill first conceived Trans-Siberian Orchestra, his goal was as straightforward as it was incredibly ambitious. “The whole idea,” he explains, “was to create a progressive rock band that would push the boundaries (of the genre) further than any group before...Way, way further.” With more than 10 million albums sold, TSO has inspired generations of fans to rediscover the multidimensional art form of the rock opera. Meanwhile, on the road, they have become one of the world’s top acts, with Billboard magazine naming TSO as one of the top touring artists of the past decade -- a $20 million-plus production that has played to over 100 million people in 80+ cities, selling more than $280 million worth of tickets. The socially conscious single “Christmas Eve/ Sarajevo 12/24,” the album was certified double platinum. More platinum certifications followed with 1998’s The Christmas Attic, and the final installment of the Christmas trilogy, The Lost

CHRISTMAS IN THE PARK At the Morse Museum Each year, on the first Thursday of December, the Morse Museum helps launch the holiday season in Winter Park when it lights up Tiffany windows in Central Park and presents the Bach Festival Choir and Brass Ensemble in concert. This December is the 44th annual celebration of Christmas in the Park. Christmas in the Park was started by Hugh and Jeannette McKean, the Morse Museum’s benefactors, in 1979 as a way to share a part of their rare Tiffany collection with the public in an informal setting. Today, the Morse and the City of Winter Park co-sponsor the event.

Christmas Eve in 2004. In the midst of completing the trilogy, TSO released their first non-holiday rock opera, the gold certified Beethoven’s Last Night. TSO’s latest album, Night Castle, released in October of 2009 debuted at #5 and was certified gold by year’s end. A sweeping two-discs of genre-bending epics, Night Castle is an affecting story that takes the listener around the world, through time and to points beyond. O’Neill and company will eventually give Night Castle its due in a live setting just as they have Beethoven’s Last Night in spring ‘10 with a new hybrid form of concert they called “Rock Theatre”-just one of many multi-media avenues TSO will be exploring in the near future. And now Orlando, get ready to rock into the holiday season with the Trans-Siberian Orchestra! For they make their return to Amway Center December 17 with The Ghosts of Christmas Eve tour. Tickets available online!

LETTING GO, SET YOURSELF FREE Coming soon, 2023 is right around the corner. That means it’s time

to let go of things that don’t need to move forward with you. Especially things that hold you back from living the life you want! This is the time to reset your goals and achievements. Don’t let the obsessions of unhappy feelings and thoughts control your new opportunities. Set yourself free from your past welcoming freedoms of living in the present moments. Remember we can’t go back to change our past or things that happened to us but we can embrace and make the best out of them to live with peace where you currently are. You are in control of choices you make and you do have choices!

I am letting go tips: Accept who you are Identify your weakness and flaws Master gratitude attitude Being mindfulness Forgive yourself , others, the situation and move on Be gentle with yourself Master your emotions Embrace your past as gifts of life lesson learned to become stronger and better of who you are now Control what you can control and let go of what you can’t control Practice compassion and empathy Take care of yourself through self love and self help Stop the game blame Focus on things that give you joy right now Facing the fears and disappointments that holding you back Turn your wounds to wisdoms Uncomfortable will help you grow When you let go of your past or negative attachments, the new perspectives to build a better stronger version of you will arise. You will strive for better goals and make room for positivities. Leave negative thoughts, and energy behind, and better and positive blessings will come your way. Of course, change will take time and sometimes it’s uncomfortable and painful. But If we don’t experience those things how can we have room for growth. You then will be more in control of you! However, if you can don’t wait until the end of the year to cleanse yourself, try to do as much as you can. So you can live the best life, and the life you want in the present moment.

Virgin Voyages on the Scarlet Lady Sea of Red with Epic Sunsets and Epic Rendezvous By Cathleen K. Bode

Sir Richard Branson a British billionaire, entrepreneur, and business magnate doesn’t do anything halfway. In the 1970s he founded the Virgin Group, which today controls more than 400 companies in various fields. When it comes to his epic Virgin Voyages he truly knows how to make you feel like a rockstar.

short hour’s drive from Puerto Costa Maya, making for an easy day trip to paradise where 7 shades of blue await. Bacalar is definitely worth a visit if you're looking for a beautiful place to relax and enjoy the outdoors. Other than the main attraction Bacalar Lagoon, there are Mayan ruins, historical landmarks, and cenotes.

Scarlet Lady is Virgin Voyages premium take on what luxury cruising is all about. She is beautiful and red hot! Sailing from PortMiami, Scarlet will whisk you away to amazing destinations in style.

Back onboard, Scarlet Lady is your oyster. Grab a cone from Lick Me Till… Ice Cream before heading to your suite to get ready for some fun at the DanceShowPartyThing where you shake it all out at this hype music video disguised as an absurdist style dance party. Did I mention that this is an Adult Only cruise?

We set sail the Virgin Way with Champagne in hand, saying bon voyage to Miami and here we come Costa Maya! Once a sleepy enclave of fishing villages nestled between the Caribbean Sea and the Gulf of Mexico, today Costa Maya is a gateway to incredible natural wonders, ancient Mayan ruins, and some of Mexico’s best diving. Bacalar Lagoon in the state of Quintana Roo is only a

From Atonement Deep Tissue Massage, Awakening Bamboo Massage, Salvation Swedish Massage to Deliverance Hot Mineral Massage, who can argue the state of well-being of Vitamin Sea? From Cosmic Blowouts and Celestial Cocktails, Heavenly High Brow Bar to Starry-eyed Lashes at the Dry Dock, there seems to be no end to the many services onboard the Scarlet! Duty Free anyone? Prices are cheaper than in the USA. Try your hand with lady luck — there’s a casino onboard too! Day at Sea—Thankfully the toughest decision was whether to spend the day by the pool or in your Yellow Leaf hammock at your Clever Cabin terrace, all the while taking in the sea views and sounds of the waves. These Clever Cabins are spaciously equipped with a glam area for you to get ready, a Roomy Rainshower and a dreamy bed. If you want to be more social, you can request for your Seabed to be transformed into a comfy sofa during the day and order in from the room service menu. For a little R&R, you can also spend some time at the Redemption Spa, their mermaid and merman hideaway. The Thermal Suite features a hydrotherapy pool, mud room (mud included), salt room, cold plunge pools, quartz beds, all for a nominal fee. If you want to spurge a bit on yourself and/or your significant other, why not get a rejuvenating spa treatment or two. You are worth it and won’t regret it! After a relaxing day at sea, we were ready to have an all-out fiesta at the Pink Agave. They’ll transport your tastebuds to the vibrant streets of Mexico City through Pink Agave’s authentic flavors and expansive array of mezcal. Pro tip: bring your camera for one of Scarlet’s best photo ops — the entrance to Pink Agave. After an incredible dinner and one too many mezcals, it was time to see one of the many entertainment shows onboard. And on this night we chose Duel Reality. This signature performance examines the age-old tale of Romeo & Juliet with a modern twist featuring acrobatic storytelling. It was spellbinding. Worthy of Cirque du Soleil and Broadway. Grog Walk did you say? A fun pub walk to discover Scarlet Lady’s best drinks and bites as we made our way to all signature bars. After that it was snooze time. Lights out. Finito. Ahhh, a new day awaits and what a treat…we have arrived in Bimini, Virgin Voyages Beach Club in the Bahamas. It is a stunning collision of restoration and exploration — with the luxury of St. Tropez, the raw beauty of the Maldives, and the energy of Ibiza. And, at the end of the night we said goodbye with a bonfire bash under the stars. What more can you ask for?

New Year New Perspective By Maha Chaudhry With every passing year comes new experiences, and with those new experiences come new ideas, perceptions and beliefs. Whether or not it is clearly evident to the visible eye, each year provides growth that prepares us for the year ahead.

something makes it a habit, and after three months, that habit becomes a shift in lifestyle. But if you resonate with the 84% that sometimes struggle to transition goal to habit then convert it to lifestyle, you are clearly not alone.

Before declaring your New Year’s resolutions this year, consider asking yourself a few questions that may better help shape your perception on what’s ahead by getting clear on your perspective for the year we are soon bidding farewell.

Sometimes resolutions fail because people set a goal that goes from a ratio of 0 to 100. Although the initial excitement generates momentum, it is usually shortlived. However, taking smaller steps in the larger direction will provide a more realistic approach in achievement.

What did 2022 show me? What did I, and/or, what could I do differently? What do I want to bring with me into the new year? What would I like to leave behind? How can I take what I learned and apply it to something I desire? Answering these questions truthfully will help you better understand where you are at in the present moment, and in which direction you would like to go. In doing so, coming up with goals/resolutions for the coming year should be more attainable as you have a clearer scope on your priorities and your nonnegotiables. In an Economic Times article, it is said according to research, only about 16% of people are able to follow through with their resolutions. We have learned that it takes 21 days to form a habit and 90 days to permanently establish it a lifestyle. In other words, three weeks of consistently working at

Remember to be patient and give yourself the grace of understanding your mindset when it comes to where you’d like to be. Set goals that are realistic to where you are currently and what makes sense for your trajectory. Progress is progress whether it be small or big. If you focus on creating a healthier mindset, you’ll find that the goals you desire will become to feel less burdensome and more attainable. A good way of doing this is listing out your goals. Next, in a sentence or two, write the “why” behind each goal. Finally, list it out the goals in order of importance to you (keeping in mind your non-negotiables). When you have your goals listed out in the order of most to least important, along with your “why”, create a few bullets under each goal consisting of sub-steps that will ultimately bring you to the final desired outcome. The key here are baby steps - the baby steps are the stepping stones to the larger goal, in other words, they are your small wins. To recap, celebrate the small wins, master creating a positive mindset and divulge in your perspective. And there you have it - another concoction for a more successful new year.

THE CLEAN GIRL LOOK The illusion of “less” is more. The clean-girl makeup look is all over TikTok and Instagram. If you haven’t seen it, the “clean girl” aesthetic is in essence, minimalist makeup. The look is focused on that barely-there appearance, so the less product, the better. It’s simple but the results are impactful! Here are the steps. PRE-MAKEUP: SKINCARE Using quality ingredients and being consistent with your skincare routine will not only leave your skin fresh-faced and set up a good base, but it’ll also reduce the amount of makeup you’ll need! Concealing blemishes, acne scars, or dark undereye circles is so much easier when you take care of your skin! (And don’t forget to wear SPF!).

1. PRIMER Do NOT skip the primer! Primer creates a smoothing effect that enhances makeup coverage and helps your makeup stay on longer, both essential to the clean girl look. Rare Beauty’s Pore Diffusing Primer for the face and Urban Decay’s Eyeshadow Primer Potion for the eyes are good to start with! 2. FACE - Tinted Moisturizer If you suffer from an oily face, you probably don’t like wearing heavy liquids on your face. That’s where tinted moisturizer comes in! It’s a sheer,

lightweight alternative to foundation that can cover up and hydrate the skin. Bonus points if it has SPF! Concealer If you skipped tinted moisturizer, wear concealer instead. The NARS Soft Matte Complete Concealer is perfect for covering up any redness or blemishes! Blush Liquid blushes are perfect for natural and highquality blending- two things essential to the clean girl look! 4. EYES Mascara is just one of those things that fits everyone differently, but completes the whoel look! A any mascara that is volumizing and longlasting is great for this look. 5. HEALTH & BEAUTY

IS THERE A SECRET TO

HAPPINESS?

BY NAOMI SHIF

56

| ORLANDOSTYLEMAGAZINE.COM

HEALTH & BEAUTY

ADJUSTMENTS FOR LASTING HAPPINESS Most can agree that the honest admittance of one’s unhappiness is particularly viewed as embarrassing or shameful. This is because our society sees this as a personal weakness and failure. Whether it’s that unsettling feeling tucked away in the back of your psyche or the obvious obsession with the lackluster of your reality, we’ve all felt it from time to time. Generally we look to our past for any explanation of why or how it is possible to have become so desolate in our own lives, but maybe the truth lies in our mindsets. Like many, I’ve ignored the power of my own choices in the matter and the onset of my actions that are directly affecting my daily happiness. Every once in a while it seems appropriate to filter out the parts of our lives that just aren’t “working” anymore. In light of spring, maybe it’s time for an important spring cleansing of the mind.

amongst the individuals in your life. You may think posting about the newest material advancement in your life will somehow heighten your success, but in fact you find yourself fixating on the amount of likes you receive from your peers, or the lack thereof. Time may find itself available to focus on other things we have been notoriously neglecting, if we could only find small ways to pull back from internet platforms in our everyday lives. Instead of that hour long session of social media scrolling before bed, find an inspiring read or relaxation hobby to pick up before turning out the lights each night. I’ve turned to free writing as a way to release stress. Giving your mind the time to breathe after a long day will not only adjust your free time spent, but also promote a healthier night’s sleep: disconnect to decompress.

LIMITING SOCIAL DRINKING.

As a woman, I am notorious for indulging in conversations focused on other people with my girl friends. On and on, gabbing about things that have no direct effect on our lives. This I have found may be a small way to release steam because something deeper is making me equally unhappy. Instead of deciphering my own buried disappointments I have wasted precious time trying to pick apart others. Instead of engaging in the gossip surrounding my inner circle, I’ve tried to sit silently and observe our social behavior, that has proven to be telling enough. Voicing a frustration or two is perfectly normal but spending a whole evening harping on drama is as equally destructive as it is exhausting.

One common cure for anyone feeling a tiny bit uneasy is alcohol. Young or old, reaching for something strong to sip down has become the crutch to pacify mental breakdown. If you’ve built a tolerance and a love for a good glass of wine like I have, it can be hard to part from it completely. If a bottle of spirits is your perfect ending to a stressful day, try limiting yourself. Reach for that glass but keep it at a happy limit of one glass with dinner. Instead of feeling sluggish, cotton-mouthed and sleep deprived the next morning trying to rehash all the intolerable things you did the night before, you’ll feel satisfied without overdoing and overindulging. Date differently. The newest trend in dating is the fact that we are now focusing so heavily on our lack of a love-life that we miss the whole beauty of dating. The innocent excitement of meeting someone unexpectedly has turned into a game of left or right and how many matches we can achieve virtually. While our heads are buried somewhere behind a smartphone or laptop we are actually missing the people who walk in and out of our lives daily. Don’t get me wrong, the thought of looking through a catalog of singles is sometimes very intriguing but when you realize the price you pay by deluding romantic attention into the confines of social media, even your own reality can be altered. Logout and focus on the people who are a constant support in your life, maybe the person you’ve been looking for isn’t hiding behind an internet profile afterall.

STOP ENGAGING IN POINTLESS GOSSIP.

FIND REASONS TO SMILE.

It is so easy to somehow make my life into a soap opera of immense proportion. Taking small steps to resist the urge to rehash the hardships during my day and shift it into a play by play of the positive ones isn’t easy. Sometimes it can feel like squeezing water out of a rock, but get creative if you have to. Write a small list down somewhere in a notebook next to your bed, store it away and when you’re having “one of those days” reread the things that once made you smile. Being happy has no simple fix but focusing your attention on your personal responsibility in the matter could be a huge step in the right direction.

FIND VALUED USE OF PERSONAL TIME.

It’s almost as if social media has become less a place to personally connect but a place to compete and criticize

CELEBRITY SOUP

SUCCESSFUL ACTORS WHO STARTED THEIR CAREER LATER IN LIFE WHO SAYS YOU CAN’T TEACH AN OLD DOG NEW TRICKS? By Riesa Pascal

62

| ORLANDOSTYLEMAGAZINE.COM

CELEBRITY SOUP

We so often hear about child stars who successfully transition into successful adult actors that it can be easy to forget that this is not everyone’s story. Here are six renowned actors who gave up unrelated careers to pursue acting in their adult life and managed to make a name for themselves.

Ken Jeong Ken Jeong had an interest in comedy from a young age, but his early career path led him to become a licensed physician. Though he practiced medicine by day, Jeong moonlighted as a comic by night and eventually took his talents to Los Angeles where he continued to work as a stand-up comedian, actor, and doctor. After scoring several small roles, Jeong's medical background came in handy when Judd Apatow needed an actor who had medical knowledge for his 2011 romantic comedy, Knocked Up. At 39 years old, the role proved to be a game-changer and Jeong quickly became a household name landing numerous other hilarious roles in The Hangover series, Community, and more.

Terry Crews In 1991, Terry Crews was drafted by the Los Angeles Rams to play defense, but he ultimately played for several different teams over his five seasons of professional football. After making the difficult decision to retire at the age of 30, Crews fell into a depression before picking himself back up and deciding to try his hand at acting. He landed a series of small roles before securing his breakout role as the ex-con Damon Pearly in Ice Cube's cult hit, Friday After Next. Crews continued to show off his comedic skills on the big screen in the films White Chicks and The Longest Yard. Today, Crews is a household name with a starring role in the long-running sitcom, Brooklyn Nine-Nine and several memorable commercials for Old Spice.

Danny Glover Though Danny Glover acted throughout college in the 1960s, he decided post-graduation to work for the city of San Francisco as an evaluations specialist and program manager. A call to take up acting struck Glover in his late 20s and led him to set his sights on Hollywood. His breakthrough role came in his early 30s when he was cast in Steven Spielberg's Academy Award-winning drama, The Color Purple. In 1987, Glover became a household name when he co-starred opposite Mel Gibson in the actioncomedy Lethal Weapon, which turned into one of the most successful franchises of the 1980s and '90s. Glover also appeared in Predator 2 and Angels in the Outfield and remains an active actor today.

Mr. T Before he was a 1980s pop-culture sensation, Mr. T was just Lawrence Tureaud. His football talent as a youth earned him a university scholarship to play at Prairie View A&M University, but he was ultimately expelled after just one year. Tureaud then served as a military policeman in the Army. In the 1970s, he worked as a nightclub bouncer in Chicago and developed his Mr. T persona. At the age of 30, Sylvester Stallone saw Mr. T in a televised strongman competition and cast him as the trash-talking boxer Clubber Lang in Rocky III. The movie became a huge box-office hit and his famous catchphrase, "I pity the fool," became a part of the '80s lexicon. In 1983, Mr. T landed the role of B.A. Baracus on The A-Team and became so popular that he even got invited to the White House to meet Ronald Reagan… talk about a successful career transition!

Wanda Sykes The daughter of an Army colonel, Sykes worked as a procurement officer with high-level clearance at the National Security Agency after graduating college in Washington, D.C. However, Sykes knew she had a talent for making people laugh and often performed as a standup comedian while working at the NSA. Sykes's first opportunity to truly pursue show business came as a writer and performer on The Chris Rock Show in her late 30s which even earned her an Emmy Award. Sykes also landed impressive gigs on HBO's Curb Your Enthusiasm, MonsterIn-Law, and even ABC's hit comedy, Black-ish among other hits. Today Sykes continues to be one of the top female stand-up comics in the country.

Jon Hamm Never thought I’d be jealous of a random high school in St. Louis, but I was after I found out that handsome Missouriborn actor John Hamm spent two years teaching high school drama there after finishing college! Maybe enough students (and their moms) told him he looked like a movie star, because in the mid-1990s he decided to head to Hollywood with the dream of becoming an actor. It wasn’t smooth sailing right away though and Hamm had to pick up waiting tables to make ends meet. Finally, at the age of 36, Hamm won his breakout role as Don Draper on the hit AMC drama Mad Men, eventually going on to even win an Emmy Award for his performance.

Mr. Victor Pantoja Jr. & Dr. Francelis Ivette Gonzalez (Dr. G) Powerful Couples Dr. Francelis Ivette Gonzalez (also known as Dr. G) and her husband Victor M. Pantoja Jr. are one of the most influential Latino couples in Orlando. But these two are more than just a pair of wealthy socialites in the Central Florida area. Their empire was built with hard work and their network of pediatric and family medicine clinics (Kidsville Pediatrics and Family Tree Medical Group where Victor is the CEO) are some of the most recognized in the area. Dr. G, from Puerto Rico, and Victor M. Pantoja from New York, have called Orlando their home for the past 25 years and decided to join forces professionally in 1999 when they started their own medical practice. The success of this first joint venture led them to expand and open several other clinics throughout Central Florida. However, aside from the medical field, what many people know them for is for their passion to give back, travel and attend the hottest events in the city. There are few people they don’t know and few parties they’re not invited to or have a table at. Lovers of art and culture, they are always participating in supporting the arts and in fact were the first Hispanic founding donors of the Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts. Being in the health industry, supporting initiatives like Kids Beating Cancer has also been an important piece of their lives here. Actually, Dr. G is a Board Member of Kids Beating Cancer and the President of the Rose Society of Kids Beating Cancer.

Breaking barriers for Latinos in the community is something they’ve both been recognized for. Helping the community and being an example for others comes from the education they got from their parents who taught them that successful people do not do what they want, they do what is needed to be done, and that giving back once you reach success is your duty. Worldwide travelers, they’ve been to over 70 countries and make sure to stay adventurous by including at least one quick trip every month in their busy schedules. And this curiosity and love for exploring and growing together is part of what helped them succeed as a couple. They say that commitment to one another, trust, communication, and constant support for each other’s projects while knowing how to separate business and marriage has been the key to their success in what its ‘about to be a 30-year marriage next year.

Ly Nguyen, MD Eye Florida Dr. Ly Nguyen is a board-certified general ophthalmologist and has been providing state of the art comprehensive medical and surgical eye care to Central Florida community for almost 15 years. Patients who visit Dr. Ly Nguyen’s office say she is a wonderful doctor; some say she is one of the most skilled cataract surgeon serving Kissimmee and Saint Cloud communities. She smiles warmly when her patients tell her that she is a caring person who takes the time to listen and get to know them personally. Dr Nguyen says “I have seen tens of thousands of cases but each patient's life story is unique, and I can still remember the details of most of my patients.” Reflecting on her life, many signs point to her path in the field of ophthalmology. Growing up in the fishing village of An Bang, Hue, Vietnam, most popularly known as “City of Ghosts”, she developed night blindness due to poverty and malnutrition. While she was still in college at Brown University, her father developed early cataracts due to the harsh sun as a longline fisherman. These personal experiences shaped Dr. Nguyen’s passion and mission in helping her patients see better and regain their sight from cataracts and other potentially blinding eye conditions. After receiving her Bachelor of Science in Biology with Honors and Bachelor of Arts in Biomedical at Brown University, Dr. Nguyen completed her medical training at the John A Burn’s School of Medicine at the University of Hawaii. Following the step of her mentor, the late Dr. Jorge G. Camara, she completed her ophthalmology residency at the University of Colorado Rocky Mountain Lions Eye Institute. She cultivated a deeper sense of empathy and compassion for her patients through the variety of cases she encountered in her rotations.

At her private practice in Saint Cloud, Dr. Nguyen specializes in cataract, oculoplastic, and minimally-invasive glaucoma surgeries. She brings extensive surgical expertise and a warm Aloha Spirit to her practice at Eye Florida through her residency training at the

University of Hawai’i School of Medicine and Rocky Mountain Lions Eye Institute at University of Colorado. Her number one goal is to deliver exceptional and personalized eye care for the whole family. Dr. Nguyen has received numerous awards, including Top Doctors and Best of Florida as well as being voted as Orlando Style’s Elite Doctors, Top Eye Doctors, and Women of the Year. When she is not operating or working on other business ventures including real estate development, Dr. Nguyen enjoys spending time with her family and friends, traveling, reading, and exploring historical sites. She dedicates her time to giving back to the community. She contributes as the current Chief of Surgery and previous member of the Board of Trustee for Orlando Health St. Cloud Hospital. She is a co-founding member of the An Bang Professionals, a non-profit organization committed to providing financial assistance to promising high school graduates and underserved communities in the United States and aboard. She shares her time and knowledge to aspire the next generation of young professionals through mentorship programs. Several of her mentees have gone on to pursue careers in ophthalmology and many have been selected to present research paper at prestigious meetings including the Women in Ophthalmology Annual Meeting. When asked to share some memorable cases in her career, Dr. Nguyen spoke about a case of a young mother who was legally blind due to mature cataracts and insurance delays. By the time this young mother was referred to Dr. Nguyen, many had feared that her sight was permanently lost. Dr. Nguyen performed the cataract surgery and soon after, the mother was able to see! During her follow-up visit with Dr. Nguyen, she was overjoyed with tears that she could now see her young son’s face and watch him grow up. “We often take our gift of sight for granted and experiences like these allows me to make a difference in my patient’s life” says Dr. Nguyen.

Mark R. Lippman, Esq. Lawyer Mark Lippman is proudly rooted in Orlando, where he attributes the success of his law practice in residential and commercial real estate, and criminal defense. As a young man, Mark had no idea he would end up an attorney until the path found him – then there was no stopping this inspired man from following his dream of helping others. Born in Miami and raised in Fort Lauderdale, Mark attended the University of Miami, earning his degrees in biology, psychology and history. Mark went on to the Nova Southeastern, Shepard Broad Law Center where he earned his Juris Doctorate while graduating with honors. Mark’s first legal position was representing over 10,000 units of residents for a top-rated law firm in real estate law. He knew he loved real estate, but he also knew he wanted to head to the Orlando area and see what the future held - and what the public sector was like.

In 2000, he made the move and came to work for the State of Florida in the office of the Public Defender, 9th Judicial Circuit, and later for the office of the State Attorney. There, Mark became a specialist in prosecuting domestic violence, DUI, child abuse and sex crimes. Mark was ready to embark on his own and in 2004 – opened the doors of what is now known as Lippman Law Offices, PA and has been involved with dozens of press cases that include being a guest on Nancy Grace Show, Today Show, Anderson Cooper, Judge Jeanine, Geraldo and Good Morning America. He is a past correspondent for People magazine. Mr. Lippman can be seen on multiple news and online channels. His office has expanded to the Tampa Bay area, as Lippman Law continues to service the entire state of Florida. Mark’s favorite accomplishment is raising his two teenage daughters.

Beth Steele Beths’s Burger Bar

Beth Steele is an Up-State New York native who now calls Orlando, Florida her home. She has earned the nickname “Wonder Woman,” from her friends and family, due to her tenacious and relentless pursuit for excellence in her personal and professional endeavors. With a keen eye for opportunity, Beth has successfully grown her own staffing company, a non-profit organization, and the Beth’s Burger Bar brand as well as becoming a successful offshore angler. She was thrilled to win the Swordfish Tournament in the summer of 2022. In August of 1995, Beth created Team Staffing Services, staffing clients into a variety of positions, such as light industrial, hospitality, and clerical positions. With hard work, dedication, and her astounding ability of fostering relationships with her loyal clients and employees, Beth has been able to grow her company and receive multiple accolades throughout the years. Accolades such as “Top 20 Woman Owned Businesses,”“Top 20 Staffing Agencies,” as well as several nominations for “Orlando’s Women who Mean Business Award.” To this date, Team Staffing Services continues to provide employment and opportunity to thousands of Central Florida residents. In 2011, due to her mother Joyce Steele’s passing from cancer, Beth created a non-profit organization named Shades Hopes Dreams. Shades Hopes Dreams is an organization which encourages everyone to boost the fight against cancer. Seeing her mom go through so many triumphant highs and gut wrenching lows throughout her battle with cancer is what gave Beth the inspiration to help so many others. Shades Hopes Dreams is the result. Beth aspires to help improve the hopes and dreams of the men, women and children who are suffering from the disease. Inspired by her mother’s strength and passionate spirit, Beth was once again motivated to stand out from the crowd. Her vision was to create a restaurant that boasted a highly customizable build-a-burger menu along with refrigerators full of domestic and imported beers and wines. The idea of

the burger bar was derived from Beth’s habit of customizing her burger orders at other restaurants. In December of 2012, Beth opened her first restaurant in Downtown, Orlando and named it “BETH’S BURGER BAR.” She will be celebrating 10 years December 2022. It did not take long for Beth’s Burger Bar to be recognized by the community as the place to go get the “Best Burger in Town.” In 2013, Beth’s Burger Bar won an award from A-List for “Best Local Burger.” The accolade was followed by several other awards throughout the years, such Orlando Magazine’s “Late Night Dining Award” from the years 2016-2018 and “Foodie Awards” in 2017. We have won Best Burger for Orlando Magazine 2016-2022. All of the burger bar’s success and admiration from the community led to her opening several other locations. Residents of Central Florida and visitors alike can now enjoy Beth’s Burgers at four different locations; The City of Edgewood, Lake Mary, Lake Cay and the Orange County Convention Center. The plan is Clermont in 2023. Beth has also made it a personal goal to continuously give back and make a difference in her community and bring joy to people’s lives. She accomplishes this goal by participating in the organization Big Brothers & Big Sisters and hosting monthly charity events at her Beth’s Burger Bar locations. Beth also participates in and donates to other charities such as M.S, Autism, Orlando Strong, Tough Biker, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, and many local schools. When Beth is not out conquering the work force or fulfilling peoples search for the best burger in town, she can be found in the middle of the sea enjoying her favorite hobby; offshore fishing. She started a company called Hooker Booker, which is an online fishing charter business. You can book your favorite captains all over for inshore or offshore. Beth has made it a mission to try and land a record breaking Swordfish. Beth’s current record is a beastly 441 pound swordfish…evidence she truly is the “Woman of Steel”.
