Bazaar On the 14th of December, St.Gerards held the annual Christmas Bazaar. The whole school was filled with festive treats and activities for all age groups. TY students made it their mission to give all efforts to the YSI Cake Sale located in the upstairs corridors. All proceeds went to Tiglin, the charity dealing with the issue of homelessness and substance abuse. The winners of the Christmas Bookmark Competition, Ella Malone and Sarah Murphy, could watch all their hard work pay off as their design was printed and sold by Ms.Fox outside the auction room. With the joyful atmosphere and smiles all round, all students not have a wonderful evening.

Tiglin Talk On the 12th of December TY attended a talk presented by Tiglin, an organisation that helps the homeless in the inner city. The members of Tiglin reminisced about past experiences with homelessness and addiction, and it was visible that everyone was emotionally invested in their stories. I feel like this talk helped us, as a year group, understand the topic of homelessness a lot better and will push us to help Tiglin, and organisations like Tiglin, to fight against homelessness.

In TY we are offered the opportunity to take part in many different extracurricular activities. This term 40 of us took part in scuba diving. The course consisted of a theory class and a practical class. Firstly the instructors gave us a talk on the guidelines and safety procedures involved in scuba diving.

Scuba Diving Then we all headed into the National Aquatic Centre, were we were given all the appropriate gear required for scuba diving and each group spent about an hour in the pool learning how to use the equipment and swimming under water. We all thoroughly enjoyed the experience and had a lot of fun.

Hamper Packing On Tuesday all the fourth year students took part in the SVP Hamper Packing. Every year the fifth year students on the SVP committee organise a Hamper pack of Christmas essentials for the families in our bray community. All of the fourth year students helped with packing the various food items into the boxes. They were split into groups and each group had to pack 20 boxes. After they were packed the fifth years went out to deliver them. The Hamper packs are a lovely way to give back to our community at Christmas time.

YSI Carolling On the 21st of December, the YSI group along with some other volunteers from TY went to St. Stephen’s Green shopping centre to do carol singing for two hours to raise money for the Peter McVerry trust for homelessness this Christmas.
