Campers will explore how to create characters and costumes as well as prop and set design while learning about stage direction. Week 5 - THE AMAZING WORLD OF COLOR Experience the colorful wonderful world of paint. Campers will explore their artistic abilities, try different painting techniques, and discover new skills. Learn about color mixing, blending, application, and more. Course # 20C05VIS Jun 22-26

Week 6 - STREET ART Explore the world of street art. Learn color techniques such as blending, balance, and shading while working with different mediums. WEEK 3 - CERAMICS TWO WEEK INTENSIVE Gain an understanding of ceramics as a dynamic and expressive art form in this two week intensive camp. Explore wheel-throwing techniques, hand-building basics, and surface treatment, while learning the proper procedures for glazing and firing. WEEK 4 - JEWELRY MAKING Discover how easy it is to create your own jewelry! Work with wire, beads, gemstones, leather, and more as you learn how to design and fabricate jewelry. Explore the proper use of tools and how jewelry elements work together in function, design, and color. Create one-of-a-kind earrings, bracelets, necklaces, and components. WEEK 5 - 3D MASKS IN THE MAKING Campers will learn about various masks from different cultures: African tribal, Japanese Kabuki, Indonesia, and Mexican masks and then take what they’ve learned to create their own one of a kind masks using a variety of art techniques. WEEK 2 - PAINT SQUAD Explore creative applications and unique ways to express yourself using a variety of paints. Experiment with multiple paint mediums and techniques including acrylic pours, tempera pendulum painting, watercolors, alcohol inks, and more. Discover how to read patterns, selecting the proper fabric, and create a variety of exciting projects! Sewing machines will be provided for each camper to use throughout the week. WEEK 8 - PORTRAIT PERFECTION Explore the fundamentals of drawing portraits and advance your drawing skills. Campers will learn how to see the human face as a series of basic shapes and patterns of light and shadow. Focus will be placed on proportion, composition, and working towards dynamically rendering the human portrait on paper. Week–long Summer Programs for ages 14-18 Teen Art Studio Summer Intensives allow students to express themselves creatively while learning from professional artist instructors. Come explore and experiment with a variety of artistic mediums. TEEN ART STUDIO: EXPERIMENTAL DRAWING & PAINTING INTENSIVE AGES 13-19 Unleash your creativity and experiment with materials in unexpected ways during these weeklong studio intensives taught by experienced educators who are also professional artists. Students are invited to question, explore, experiment, and solve problems as they create and interact with art. Work within project based formats to develop drawing, painting, & observational skills while experimenting w/new, different and alternative methods/materials to create 3 & 4 dimensional drawings & paintings. Task yourself with goals to build your portfolio, expand your critical thinking and find your way within the world of your Art. Learn the basic skills and techniques to create several personalized handblown glassworks. With supportive instruction in a team environment, you will learn to safely work with molten glass, gather glass from the furnace, apply colors, and shape and sculpt molten glass. Be prepared to work in the heat! Students should wear comfortable, natural fiber (cotton) clothes they don’t mind getting dirty and closed toed shoes. The class occurs outdoors in a covered area. TEEN ART STUDIO: DARKROOM PHOTOGRAPHY - AGES 14-18 Learn how to use a 35mm camera, from scratch to finish. Instruction will be given in how to compose, meter and expose photographs. Students will need to bring their own 35mm cameras (automatic and/or manual with instruction booklet, if available.) Negatives will be developed and the darkroom magic will begin. Basic printing skills will be taught and practiced, advancing at individual rates, including presentation of a final photo that will be spotted, matted and framed. Class includes 2 rolls of black and white film, printing paper, chemistry and presentation materials. Bring your camera and manual to the first class. THIS CLASS IS LIMITED TO 6 STUDENTS. By the end of the week you will take home a sculpture that you have created from design to finish. The class occurs outdoors in a covered area. Students will finish several projects in sterling silver and copper while working in Spruill’s professionally equipped studio and in a safe, fun and focused environment. CERAMICS HANDBUILDING HANDBUILDING FOR EVERYONE Recommended as a Student’s first ceramics course, though more advanced students are also welcome. The thing about clay is, you can turn it into almost anything with just your hands and a few simple tools. We will explore the many techniques available to create, decorate and fire work that is “you”. Functional to sculptural; the sublime to the ridiculous. CLASSICAL CHAINS USING THE LOOP-IN-LOOP METHOD Loop-in-loop chains have a simplicity and elegance that has endured since their creation thousands of years ago. They’re the basis for many beautiful jewelry designs, then and now. Learn how to safely etch your sterling silver using ferric nitrate and a Silhouette Cameo die cutting machine to cut custom vinyl decals as the resist. We will cover how to apply the vinyl resist to your silver, how to safely and properly etch your silver, how to stop the etching process, how to clean up the chemicals when the etching process is complete, and how to properly store your chemicals. FORGE A TOMAHAWK FROM A RAILROAD SPIKE! AGES 15 - ADULT In this class you’ll start with a simple Railroad Spike, and you will learn how to forge a one-of-a-kind small hand-axe. The class occurs outdoors in a covered area. Students should wear comfortable, natural fiber (cotton) clothes they don’t mind getting messy, work boots or closed toed shoes and safety glasses.
