DEAR FRIENDS OF ST. LUKE’S I will, with God’s help … Though this now familiar phrase was not officially introduced until the opening day of school last August, it expresses a conviction that has long been exhibited at St. Luke’s. We are privileged to have passionate teachers who encourage our students to overcome challenges both within and beyond the classroom. Time and again, our students confront various obstacles; they are routinely asked to do hard things. St. Luke’s is a “can do” community. In addition to the knowledge they acquire, our graduates depart with confidence and faith, invaluable assets as their life journey continues. This annual report is intended to offer more than just a list of the donors who have invested in St. Luke’s. Ultimately, our mission is what inspires these benefactors to share with us. They truly value the quality of our overall educational program. They treasure the competency and dedication of our staff. Most importantly, they believe in the potential of our students and how it is unleashed during their time here. Our partnership with many generous and committed friends enables us to maintain a remarkable “can do” learning environment. As you peruse this report, we want to convey our deepest gratitude to all those who supported the noble mission of St. Luke’s in 2014. Rest assured that we are working hard to honor the rich legacy of this school, while investing our abilities and resources to grow into an even better version of what began in 1947. St. Luke’s has enjoyed many great moments in our storied past; we believe some of our best days still lie ahead of us. Don’t consider us from a distance. We invite you to come on campus and experience St. Luke’s up close. Until then, know that you remain in the daily prayers of our school community. May God continue to bless you and yours throughout this year. Peace,

Thomas McLaughlin Ryan Smith Head of School

Chair – Board of Trustees

GIVING GIVING OPPORTUNITIES GIFTS OF SECURITIES: St. Luke’s accepts gifts of publicly traded securities. You can receive a charitable deduction for gifts of appreciated stock, based on the fair market value on the date of the gift. In addition, capital gains tax that would have to be paid if the donor sold the stock and donated the proceeds is avoided. BEQUESTS: Individuals may choose to give donations through bequests. Donors are encouraged to seek the counsel of their tax advisor. GIFTS-IN-KIND: Gifts of services or items needed by the school are welcome. In-kind forms are available. RESTRICTED GIFTS: For those donors who have special areas of interest, gifts may be designated for specific budgeted purposes, such as academic programs, the library, the John R. Foster Service Scholarship Fund or the Permanent Endowment Fund.

MAJOR DONOR

CEL EBR ATION

The Board of Trustees recognized major donors at a dinner in the Newman Library on March 27, 2014, presenting well-respected San Antonio entrepreneur, lawyer and author John Kerr. The annual event saluted major donors and their significant gifts while underscoring the value St. Luke’s places on literature and excellence in writing.

CORPORATE MATCHING GIFTS: Many employers participate in a corporate matching program. Matching gifts increase the impact of gifts to St. Luke’s, and businesses and foundations receive recognition when they match a portion or all of an employee’s contribution. ANONYMOUS GIFTS: Donors may make anonymous gifts. MEMORIAL GIFTS: A gift can be made in memory of a St. Luke’s family, alumnus or friend. HONORARIA: Contributions are welcome to honor a family member, grandchild, or friend or to remember a special occasion such as an anniversary or birthday. To donate online, visit us at www.sles-sa.org. Please direct contributions or questions to Office of Advancement, (210) 826-0664. St. Luke’s Episcopal School is a not-for-profit 501(c)3 organization under the Federal Internal Revenue Code. As an independent school, St. Luke’s depends on charitable giving to accomplish its mission to deliver to all students the highest level of academic excellence.

FUNDRAISERS Our Fall Auction Party, held on December 6, 2013, was christened with a new name. Thanks to various parent leaders and Creative Noggin, we have a stylish logo for the event that captures education at St. Luke’s: truly a kaleidoscope of opportunities. The 4th Annual Spring Scholarship Event was held on April 4, 2014 at the Charline McCombs Empire Theatre and generated $97,500, the largest support to date toward the endowment of the John R. Foster Service Scholarship. Featuring Radney Foster joined by Randy Rogers and Charlie Robison with Drew Womack and Jessica Rae, the one-of-a-kind concert brought together the school community, San Antonians, and friends from as far away as Alaska. We recognize and appreciate event chairs Jenifer Brown and Tracee Feik, as well as the entire Foster family, for their dedication to the success of this endeavor. Honoring John Foster, who embodied the values espoused at St. Luke’s by his service to others, the full tuition, three-year scholarship will be awarded each year to a rising sixth grader with demonstrated financial need who exhibits a commitment to academic excellence and community service.
