We are honored to feature the amazing stories of the #HONORCURVES INSTAGRAM BODY LOVE MOVEMENT founded by Honor Curves (pictured above). This remarkable woman has inspired so many and we encourage you to say hi and share your stories with her at instagram.com/honorcurves.

This month, I feature three women who own their bodies with such style and confidence. What honoring our curves means to each one of us will always be unique, but there is a theme unveiled in each response here, a song of self-appreciation sung so beautifully by each of these gorgeous women. I am so thankful for the #HonorMyCurves movement; it is a joy to be inspired everyday, by women all over the world, who have gone on the incredible journey of discovering selflove, and are happy to take us along for the ride. If we let the words of these ladies resonate with the space inside ourselves that also yearns to be loved and accepted, we will see that

we, too, deserve kind treatment and true appreciation, at any shape and size. We get to choose how we dress our bodies, how we treat our bodies, how we love our bodies. Hating them won’t necessarily improve our lives, but loving them could just make all the difference, right now, today. View their Instagrams to read their full stories and peruse the #HonorMyCurves hashtag to see countless others whose stories inspire us to love ourselves more and always HONOR OUR CURVES. When you shine, we all shine. Own your curves, accept yourself, and never apologize for your beauty. xox Honor Curves. xox Honor Curves

Join the movement and you could be featured in the next issue. #HONORMYCURVES

Theodora, the beautiful blogger behind www.theodora-flipper.com, has been inspiring me since I first found her page. She says: “Honoring my curves means that I don’t have to hide my body! I love fashion and I think that style has no size. I want to inspire other women with my blog and my outfits.” Photo by Stefan S.

ig @curvycampbell LONDON, ENGLAND

When I first found Olivia, my jaw dropped. I wondered who this curvaceous babe could possibly be. Since then she has gone on to model for many big names, and keeps inspiring us with her sultry expressions and va-va-voom figure. Olivia says: “To me honoring my curves means being the most authentic version of me and at the same time learning to appreciate every aspect of myself while hopefully inspiring others to do the same. From my gloriously thunderous thighs to my soft stomach and the stretch marks that adorn it, I am beautiful. These were once things that I hated, that made me cry, that I was ashamed of and berated myself for on a daily basis due to society’s ideals of perfection. But through time I realized my body is perfection and that is ideal to me! So now I honor my curves everyday simply by being myself and enjoying my life to the fullest.” Photo by Simon Wisbey.

When I saw Daniela’s Instagram page, I knew she was very special. I was inspired immediately. Daniela says: “Honoring my curves means embracing my whole self from the inside out. I struggled so much to learn to accept myself, and when I finally reached that point where I felt no more self-hatred towards my body, I can say it was the best feeling in the world. I will never ever let my weight define who I am as a person again. I am so much more than a number on a scale. I love that my blog inspires others to love and to be kinder to themselves, and I will continue with my journey, because no one deserves to feel like they are not good enough. You are all beautiful <3” Photo by Kevin Wilford (KW Photography).

From Sydney Australia & Living in Las Vegas NV I have watched your vlog on doing a hair bow a million times, are you planning on doing more vlogging? Yes! I cant wait to do more tutorials and tips and tricks for fun hair and outfits. Where does your love for pink and Barbie come from? My love for anything pink came from Barbie, whom I’ve loved since I was a kid and always thought she was just perfect. My parents spoiled me and I had over 200 Barbies, houses, horses and cars.

Where do you shop? My all time favorite store is Pinup Girl Clothing, they have the prettiest dresses, great quality and their sizes run from xs-4xl. I also like Tatyana Boutique (here in Las Vegas), Simply Be, City Chic and Domino Dollhouse. What is one thing you can’t live without? My makeup vanity! I sit at that thing for at least an hour every day getting ready and I don’t know how I would do without it!

2015 with a “big” bang as it premiered its latest reality show venture, Big Women: Big Love, which “examines the lives of five plus-sized women as they navigate the tricky waters of the turbulent and sometimes harsh dating scene, struggling through bad dates and worse judgments.” The five women featured on the show range from 27 to 34 years old and are from cities all around the country, including Atlanta, Los Angeles, Brooklyn, Fort Worth, and Clifton, New Jersey. FEA TURE How did you hear about the show? I randomly saw a casting notice on Facebook. I normally see postings for shows, but it was the first time I saw one that described me. It was exciting to see a show that was about bigger girls and their dating lives. There are so many dating shows out there, but not any that show real people dating. Tell me about the audition process to finally getting to be a cast member? There were several rounds of interviews with the production company with me, as well as interviews with my friends and family. It was a process that took several months and there were periods of time when I assumed that I wasn’t selected because I hadn’t heard any feedback. Eventually I got the call about a month before we started filming. It didn’t feel real until the cameras showed up for the first date when we went bowling.

Any words of advice for ladies that have television shows approaching them? I think that if you go for it, you need to be yourself 100%. Don’t hold back on being who you are and don’t try to

b e someone that you are not. That’s the only time it feels awkward. I quickly forgot that cameras were even there and was true to myself. It’s a scary notion but I’ve learnt a lot about myself and grown so much.

Now that you have seen the show, are there any major differences you feel from filming to its final product? Everything that is shown actually happened. Some things are edited out because you can’t include everything, but I stand by the finished product. If you watch the

I love most of my cast mates. (I made no connection with one and most can guess which one that is). I have made real connections with them. I love Kristi because she is a great mom, while still being so silly and funny. Sabrina is very caring and we share a love of drag queens. (She’s supposed to come visit soon). I talk or text with Mar almost every day. We are very similar and clicked the minute we met. We are also both obsessed with pizza! Ok, so after hearing the Gilbert Grape comment from your fellow cast member and seeing her behavior, would you say anything to her now? How do you feel about her behavior in general? I don’t think it’s worth commenting on, as it would be just playing into her need for attention.

show, t h e n you’ll know what I am really like. I’m awkward and weird and funny and over the top. I feel that the final product captured me. How do you get along with your cast members? Made any life long friends?

There is a lot of controversy around any show showcasing plus size individuals, the biggest complaint is that the shows always seem to poke fun and play up the "fat stereotypes" do you feel like your show does that? At times, it does seem like there is a focus on food and stereotypes, but stereotypes can be based on truth. I do talk a lot about food. The main focus of the show is plus sized girls dating, so of course issues of weight are going to be dis-

However, I do have to say that my kitchen doesn’t usually have cheeseballs or candy on the counter. That was purely set design. What you do you want the girls in the plus size community to know about you if they already have a bad impression? If you don’t like me that’s okay. I know I’m not everyone’s cup of tea. However the one thing I would you like to learn from me is that you don’t need to be a certain size in order to have happiness in your life. Love yourself even if you don’t love me. In a perfect world, what would you like to see for plus size women in entertainment? I would love for us to be more in movies and tv and not just as the funny sidekick. I would love a plus size girl to be a romantic lead and it not to be some weird fetish film. We are making strides, but so much more for us to take over.

I wasn’t 100% sure what it was going to be like going into the casting call and there was so many beautiful girls there. I was jut grateful for the experience. What did you think after being notified you had been chosen? I was completely flattered! I’ve always wanted to show people that plus size girls can be just as pretty and sexy as regular size models too! It has given me the opportunity to showcase just that and be a leader for other girls who have hidden in the shadows because of their weight. Do you want to do more modeling? Is this the start of something beautiful? :) YES! I would absolutely love to do more modeling! When I did my photo shoot it was just so natural to me and was so much fun. CITY GUIDE

Australia FEB / MARCH 2015

We are so excited to introduce you to the newest member of the team, Samantha Morris, Skorch Australian Editor-at-Large!

Vol.8 Issue 1

As a global jet-setter who has a knack for getting exclusive behind the scenes scoops and bringing you fresh fashion from around the world (not just Australia), we are excited to be able to bring you her next adventure. Did we mention she LIVES on the Great Barrier Reef?! Lady date at Sam’s! www.curvysam.com.au www.facebook.com/curvysam www.instagram.com/curvysam AGE 29 SIZE 18AUS HEIGHT 175cm / 5’9” OCCUPATION Blogger & On Screen Talent LOCATION Far North Queensland (Great Barrier Reef)

fav food or place to eat?

Australia has some of the most amazing seafood available. Because I live on the reef I often go fishing with friends on the reef. We only take what we will eat but for those visiting I'd say go to a fish and chip shop, try some of the local seafood & enjoy it whilst sitting on an Aussie beach.

fav aussie candy

Has to be the cherry ripe, I don't even know if it's Aussie, all I know is that everyone overseas loves them too and always begs for me to bring them.

#1 spot that a visitor MUST VISIT if in Australia?

Whitsundays, Airlie Beach has to be one of my favorite places in the world, so much so I made it my home town for the last couple of years. It's a cute little town that hasn't been overrun with mainstream franchises. There's 74 tropical islands to visit. Whitehaven Beach is a must see whilst in the Whitsundays. It's one of the 7 wonders of the world featuring 7kms of pure pristine silica sand. Not many people can say they snorkelled with a turtle on the Great Barrier Reef after a hard days work.

fav way to get around? As much as I'd love to say Uber as I've heard good things, Uber just doesn't exist in Far North Queensland. I love a good road trip, windows down, music blaring giggling with friends along the way.

fav physical shops to shop? Generally only the big cities in Australia have specific plus size stores. I love to visit my home town of Melbourne (a three hour flight) where I shop at Dream Diva, Te Kiero Boutique and Myer which is a department store.

fav aussie magazine/ publications I'm an online kinda gal and always have the popular lifestyle page Mamamia popping up in my newsfeed. Run by an amazing bunch of Aussie women talking about the real things in life.

CAPTUREDby

We went behind the scenes with one photographer that is on a mission to redefine beauty with one real capture at a time, Chelzea.

/ by terr cacilia junior editor In this modern world that is obsessed with social media, and creating the most perfect personal image of ourselves, the constant visual “perfection” can be tremendously taxing on individuals, especially woman. Women are bombarded daily with photoshopped images creating what I have come to call “False Fashion Prophets.” It is easy to see how real beauty can get lost among the abundance of false fashion ideals with techniques like this in abundant use. Despite all the unrealistic standards of beauty being set, there are those who see and show the real beauty that is a real human being and we at Skorch celebrate our like-minded soul mates. New hope for the recalibrating of society’s view on beauty is hailing

from Vancouver Canada. We have featured her work for many years and after a recent trip to her set, I wanted to give you a peek inside her world, her work and her mission. This resilient force travels coast to coast and creates beauty in the most untouched way. The ultimate power I speak of is Captured by Chelzea, a photographer who refuses to use photoshop to edit the skin/body/ beauty of her subject and only utilizes natural illumination when photographing her clients. Chelzea has worked with some of the top names in the industry such as Denise Bidot, Tess Holliday, Emily Nichols, Kelsey Olson, Michelle Rudan, Yanderis Lodos, and many more! This self-taught photographer creates imagery rivaling the quality of continued next page

most any classically trained photographer.

Nadia Cohen from Mc2 Model Management said, “Chelzea takes the time to connect with the model, and that adds meaning and warmth to the experience. I have much respect for her as a talented photographer, but I also have much respect for her as a human being.” What is prominently and powerfully clear in Chelzeas work is that she works based off of natural beauty. Something so simple is taken to another level in her work and creates new dynamic effect within her photographs. “One of the things that make Chelzea so unique is that she doesn’t photo shop. There is brutal honesty in her work, and that’s where we “re-discover” (beauty) because we are seeing beauty as it is…Natural” she continued. “Talk about sending out the right message about beauty to any age, size, or ethnicity. She sees what can be created, and I celebrate her for that,” said Nadia. Then there is Kristen Madison a Dorothy Combs Model who had a quick response when speaking of Chelzea, “She (Chelzea) has such a great passion for what she does, and it shows. She has a very artistic approach that is both a bit wild, and tasteful! She doesn’t care if she is coloring out of the lines!” In regards to Chelzeas no photo shop policy Kristen shared these thoughts “I love that Chelzea does not use photo shop”…continued “We’re all human, and we all have scars, stretch marks. I think that’s important to portray reality in today’s world.” After many conversations with Chelzea and studying her work in preparation for this article, nothing is more clear than how truly strongly routed her beliefs are. Someone that is totally unafraid to stand up for their beliefs, and produce ground breaking content is essential in this industry. She helps every-day women shine in their own natural beauty and guides them to re-discover the beauty they always held. “Raw, strong and determined is Captured by Chelzea!”

WE ASKED, AMANDA BOURNE ANSWERED

IS NUDITY NECESSARY TO THE PROGRESS IN THE BODY LOVE JOURNEY? Exactly one year go this month I made my modeling “debut.” With my hair freshly cut and styled and makeup done, I embarked on a solo mission to a studio in the middle of Los Angeles on the evening before Valentine’s Day without telling anyone. I arrived at my destination a bit anxious and recall carrying on some awkward conversation with the duo behind the camera. After discussing logistics I proceeded to change in the bathroom where I would strip off every article of my clothing before stepping foot onset. That’s right, my very first photo shoot was a naked shoot. Photographed as I lay amidst a sea of pillows and blankets, it easily became the most liberating experience of my life.

The plus size movement seems to be filled with stories somewhat similar to mine. Women who for all of their lives have felt like their bodies were a project that needed continuous work to achieve an impossible standard of beauty on a journey to take their confidence back, to find a way to be unapologetically sexy and beautiful. Be it through an underwear selfie on Instagram, a pin up style photo session or a nude photo shoot for liberation. I realize that to some all of these acts of defiance may seem like they are over sexualizing the plus size movement, but I am here to say that they are absolutely necessary to our progress. They not only boost the confidence of those participating

POINT OF VIEW in them, but they also give agency to the girls and women who are looking to others with bodies like theirs for inspiration to do and feel the same. Now before you get concerned over whether or not I was scammed into taking nudes, let me explain. For many years now I have submerged myself in the plus size community that sprung from social media. Websites like Tumblr have really created a safe place for plus size women to not only tell their personal stories and hardships, but also to openly post photos of themselves. Because I knew that I would not be able to gain any sort of self-confidence by ingesting all that mainstream media had to offer me, I looked to this community for solace and a place to feel understood and beautiful, to see bodies that looked like mine. Through my relentless browsing of pages I came across one in particular that really caught my eye. Lady19 is a project developed by husband and wife duo J and Shayla Washington. Their website lady19.com reads,

“Lady19 is a photo book project dedicated to the inspiration of shapely woman. Visually combing a lady’s grace along with the allegory of the letter S being the 19th letter in the alphabet, the project aesthetic focuses on the natural curvaceous of the female form. Voluptuous women as being the ideal body image has long been the predominate thought throughout most of history. Lady19 is a collection of images continuing that appreciation.” After reading this synopses and viewing the video that accompanies the site, I was immediately drawn to the concept. At this point I had come so far on my journey to self-love that I really felt like I needed some pivotal moment, some extreme act of defiance to solidify how far I had come with my progress. I had been in somewhat of an emotional rut at the time and in my true impulsive fashion I submitted a few of my best seflies to their website with the hopes that I would be chosen to pose for the book. To my surprise Shayla contacted me a week later and we set up a date and time for the shoot.

Over 2 million people have viewed her body empowerment swimsuit lookbook on Youtube (LOOK IT UP!). We loved her SO much we flew her to LA to get to know her more and show you the newest SwimSexy swimsuits from Swimsuitsforall.com! INTERVIEW BY Courtney Mina How long have you been a vlogger, and what inspired you to start? I've been making videos for two years. My husband is in the army and he's stationed in Kansas, so when I moved out here, I didn't know anyone. I had always watched other YouTubers do exactly what I'm doing now, and it seemed like so much fun. I initially started as a way to interact with other people that liked the same things I do. I had no idea it would wind up being my job or that I would love it as much as I do! You have some of the most gorgeous hair I've ever seen! What are some of the things you do to grow and maintain those long, luscious locks of yours? I know this is the most annoying answer ever, but I don't think I do anything special. I do try to wash it as infrequently as I can, which is easy, as it's really dry. I only use heat once or twice a week and I swear by argan oil. It's lovely to see you appear #nakedface and all-natural without makeup on in some of your videos, and it's obvious that you are a gorgeous natural beauty. Have you always embraced your #nakedface? Not always! In high school I had awful cystic acne, so I wore way too much foundation - which of course caused more acne. Now I definitely embrace and love not having makeup on. There's something really empowering about getting dressed, doing your hair and going out the door without any makeup. It shows the world, "I'm not being lazy. I'm just happy with how I look."

What are some of the things that influence and inspire you the most? Plus-Size bloggers inspire me to no end. There's nothing quite like seeing a curvy girl in a killer outfit to pick me up when I'm feeling uninspired. I love women that are unafraid in fashion, regardless of size. You've experienced being many different sizes in your life since you were a teenager, having gained and lost weight (like most of us have). What size do you feel the most comfortable being at, and why? I like to think it's whatever size I am in the moment. I live by the saying, "You have one body for the rest of your life." Why waste any of that time being uncomfortable with the number that is in your jeans? What are some of the things you enjoy about being the size you are now? I like being a plus-size woman. I love getting to share my outfits and ideas with such a great community of women who are inspiring and uplifting. You have a really positive attitude about "sizes" in fashion - you support the notion that "the size and the number doesn't mat-

ter" in regards to fitting yourself into fashion. However, being at the "lower" end of the "plus size size-scale", do you feel like you can speak for women who tend to be much larger than you? Do you feel that you would have the same experiences as they would, regarding your size? I think there are struggles all plus-size women face, and I certainly feel like I have a voice for those. But I also know that, being at the lower end of the plus-size scale, there are definitely experiences I don't have. Some of my bigger friends have a really hard time finding clothes, which isn't a problem I usually encounter. I know that I'm much more privileged as a smaller plus-size woman in a lot of ways, and I try to remain conscious of that. What are some of the projects you are currently working on now? I've been working for what feels like an eternity on launching a blog! But honestly, I just finished so many projects that I'm kind of taking a moment to breathe before jumping into the next batch of them. Never a dull moment. Bling

In Defense of BY Crystal Coons www.sometimesglam.com Bling tells the world our story. If your clothing is the cover to the book of your life, accessories are the details that make us three-dimensional, real and unique. Wearing a structured black handbag tells the world that you're fearless and empowered - a no-nonsense kind of lady. On the other hand, a massive, shiny cocktail ring says you're a glam girl, all about luxury. Let's explore this further with an outfit that's like a blank page. Picture a woman in her favorite skinny jeans and perfect-fitting white t-shirt. Now, mentally add a monogrammed medallion necklace and diamond stud earrings. She's wearing a tiny rose gold ring on one hand. Suddenly, this woman has a feel, has a point of view. She's someone who enjoys simplicity in life - she'd choose a cup of tea and a good

book over a party. Mentally strip away those accessories, so you're back to the blank page. This time, envision a long layered chain necklace, some jacket earrings and a leather cuff on her wrist. Her handbag is a cross body but slung on one shoulder with fringe that sways as she walks. Her choices tell the world she's edgy, tough and trendy. She'll be at Coachella and is always first to try Kat Von D's newest lipstick. Every time you get dressed, you're telling the world who you are, what you're feeling... without saying a word. Bling is there to help you be who you want to that day; a badass boss about to take on the world or a whimsical bohemian with wanderlust. Let your details say as little or as much as you want! After all, it's your story to tell.

I want to offer plus size women the opportunity to wear fun colors and to avoid the pit-falls of only wearing black because many curvy girls think it is the only color that is slimming. skorchsupports

This shoot is really a stepping stone for me as a young woman, and my goal is to show others that sexy self-love is possible on your own. ( At any age!) I put together this shoot spontaneously, and fully embraced the experience as it unfolded. After going through with this shoot I see that these images could also help others in accepting themselves, and embracing a sexier side. In my mind I had been going back, and forth with the idea of letting out a side of myself that is more than the “Cute Chubby Girl” that people tend to see. I wanted people to know that yes, that is a part of me, but so is this strong, sexy, young woman who is truly coming in to her own confidence. When first looking at these images I was in shock “Who is that?” I felt like taking these photos has allowed me to enter a whole new level of self-love. I ultimately want to show young woman that if they feel an inner fierce sexy goddess that they should embrace that! I thought this shoot would be more difficult, but as I posed it began to feel natural. I began to feel my inner critic quiet down, and my celebration of curves rise up.

CYBER BULLIES IS FREEDOM OF SPEECH LIBERATING THE FAT SHAMERS & RUINING YOUR LIFE? / by jennifer barreto-leyva editor at large latin america

English is not my native tongue, so please excuse some grammar mistakes.

Is it not a secret for anyone out there, especially in the body love movement, that cyberbullying is a growing problem. Apparently, technology and anonymity is too tempting of a platform for those that seek to torture someone. What exactly is cyberbullying? It’s the use of information technology to repeatedly harm or harass other people in a deliberate manner. Most experts on this area consider this term oriented to the problem during the school years, separating the problem from the adults calling it cyberstalking or cyberharassment indicating that this act is performed by adults on the adults. I wonder; how has this become such a growing monster, dangerously taking a `normal and comfortable´ place in the plus size world, and making it a target for unsolicited attacks. It’s not a secret that especially

the women in the industry who happen to not fit into the ideal standar of beauty have to deal with bullies on their social media with nearly every post. Bullying now coming from other plus sized women? Too many times to count I am hearing of aspiring models or plus size models who lose their jobs or gigs due to the cyberbullying from other models and people related to the industry. Models are not the only targets who deal with the same problem, this time with media, after being victim of workplace bullying using the internet to sabotage, interfere or so with the job of the victim. I was bullied throughout school and now cyberbullied as an adult for being in the spotlight and finally the most shocking one: workplace bullied for other plus size women in the industry. Last year I had the chance to talk about this on several TV shows, take all that horror out of my system but most impor-

tantly, to help people out there realize how serious this issue is and what they should do in case this happens to them. I´m also working as a pro bono speaker giving conferences in schools and for adults about it.

I have a lot of unfortunate experience and this topic is very close to my heart. I want my Skorch dolls to participate on this debate and share your bullying experiences. How did you deal with it and how you think we can end it?

SHARE YOU BULLYING STORIES WITH ME

I invite you to share your stories with me on my facebook or instagram and I look forward to the discussion.

last thought

Both our Editor-in-Chief Tiffany and I are citizens of the larger plus size women in the world (both size 28) and spend our lives showing women what confidence looks like and that it’s not one type of beauty. We dedicate this magazine to the larger women defying society’s stereotypes because WE defy those stereotypes as well and we know millions more do as well -- so why are THEY not featured in more photos? I met Liv when looking for a size 30/32 model to show some clothes I wanted to sell, but what I found was so much more. She is powerful, feminine, beautiful and an example to us all that a “model” can mean so much more than what we all expect. From her gorgeous tattoos to her fab short hair cut, she is a living breathing eff you to society’s negative view of plus size women and she makes me feel good about myself and want to go buy her outfits! THIS is the kind of model I’d love to see a whole lot more of standing next to thin ladies we have grown to love as well.

It’s not about us or them, it’s only about DIVERSITY. Love, Jessica Kane Owner & Publisher
