meghan tonjes

eghan Tonjes is an internet super sensation with her mash-up video earning her a guest appearance on Ellen and recognition around the world. Lately, Meghan has been keeping up with her tour, making an album, and keeping her youtube channel fresh with her Request Tuesdays. Recently Meghan has moved to Los Angeles, California and continues living her dream of making music and bringing joy to anyone that listens to her. Meghan describes her music as acoustic folk pop. Her top influences are Ingrid Michelson, Jason Mraz, and Mumford and Sons. I also want to note Meghan’s much less folk side and her love for Drake and Rihanna. You may also note that Meghan has dropped a fair bit of weight. She attributes this to finding a new

passion for life. She has a passion for becoming stronger and the weight loss is just a bi-product of her new passion. She loves to run, hike, and keep active. Meghan loves her body and her body changes has gotten her more into fashion. She told me some of her favorite stores are Torrid, Lane Bryant, and Old Navy. Her ideal outfit and style would be short shorts, fitted shirt, leather moto jacket, and yellow high heels.

joy nash

ell me a quick blurb about yourself. I'm an actor living and working in Los Angeles. I've been lucky to keep pretty busy the last couple years: I've been in some award-winning music videos; had a few viral videos of my own; done some independent film; had a recurring role on a hysterical web series; as well as touring with my one-woman show MY MOBSTER winning Best of the Fringe in both Hollywood (2011) and San Francisco (2012)! I'm lucky I have time to maintain my girlish figure! ;) How long have you been acting? I think my first part was as the witch in a production of Beauty and the Beast... I was 12 and I scrawled all my lines up and down the back of my hands in case I forgot them. That's still a technique I employ today. What so far has been your break-out role? This summer I flew to the Philippines to work for 2 weeks on an episode of Locked Up Abroad. My first time in Asia and the farthest I've travelled to work. We shot in some of the most beautiful locations I've ever been in and then a few days later we were shooting in real prisons with real prisoners as extras. I got to do stunts with these famous Filipino stunt people- fighting and attempting suicideeverybody: cast, crew, all the production staff were incredible. The whole experience was a dream. It was definitely the biggest challenge I've ever been given, I mean I was in every scene of a 50 page script, and half of that was bawling my eyes out, but I was in such great hands- My director, Fergus Colville, was so trusting and so much fun. I couldn't have asked for a better experience. What music videos have you been in? (tell me about them in depth, i.e. big bad wolf nominated

etc) Well, I've only done 2 music videos so far, and one has yet to air (Nov 19!), but they have provided me with the very best stories to tell on first dates. Last year I was in Keith Schofield's Big Bad Wolf video for Ducksauce- which was nominated for 2 VMAs (Best Director and Best Electronic Music Video). If you haven't seen it- you should probably stop reading and watch it right now because anything I have to say will make it less amazing. We shot in 2 days in Hollywood and the Valley and the vibe on set was so so weird and so so cool. I'm standing there in my underwear while the poor makeup artist is gluing fake pubes to me with medical grade adhesive and she's like: "Is this the weirdest thing you've ever done?" and I thought, and I said, "Yes. Yes, this is the weirdest thing I have ever done." And then the internet went beserk over it. The best part is that people were making reaction videos of themselves watching it. There's a French guy who's my favorite:http://www.youtube.com/ watch?v=l5YaZb51ibU And then 2 weeks ago I got cast in a Kid Rock video. I auditioned for the part of a waitress I think? - They asked me if I had any dance experience and I said "Well, I'm not a trained dancer, but I will be performing tonight at the Viper Room dressed as a unicorn." My friends have a band called Ninja Betty and the Nunchix and god knows why, but they keep asking me to "backup dance" which basically entails getting all trussed up and jiggling in the corner. Although I do shoot a bubble gun at key moments. Anyway. The best part of that shoot (besides dancing with Kid Rock and morphing into Cindy Crawford when he drinks too much) was wearing these really expensive fake braces. continued >>

special interview exclusive with some of our favorite creative bad asses

I was the only kid in 4th grade without braces... I'd spend recess making myself fake ones out of paperclips and tinfoil, so this was a real dream come true. I've always been really popular, just fyi. How does it feel to be a video vixen? It's great! It's such an honor to be inspiring the children of today. For real though- Even though I'm cast in these kind of gross-out creepy-sexy parts, I'm really proud of these videos for a couple of reasons. First, every time I see a fat person in the media, I feel like it's a victory. Look at me. I exist. You are not the only fat person there is. Right? And secondly, I LIVE to administer shame boners. Lindy West has a great piece about this: http://vimeo.com/50006487 My favorite comments on the Big Bad Wolf video were things like "Ugh. I have the weirdest boner right now." That for real gives me pure glee. Turning someone on with what they claim to- or have been socialized to be sickened by makes me feel so so powerful. Have you had any issues with work and being plus size? Sort of, I have 3 overflowing closets because I'm always worried that a wardrobe person isn't going to be able to find something that fits me well. Cute, unique clothes for fats are definitely easier to find these days, but a lot of the time, I'm the fattest person a wardrobe person has dressed, and they can't just pull from stuff they already have. I always bring a suitcase to set full of my own clothes and 9 times out of 10 I end up wearing something of my own. It's kind of a pain to be doing that person's job too, but I

would SO rather be out there in front of people in a dress that I know makes me look great. Who would be your dream artist’s music video to be in? Bushido. Tell me a couple bands, musicians, songs (whatever) that you love? Bushido is a German rapper- I have no idea what he's singing about- he could be the world's biggest bigot, but he is completely gorgeous and menacing and threatening and I love him with all of my heart. How would you describe your personal style? Scandinavian Cowgirl Glamourpuss? Can you find and link 3 items out right now that you love? http://www.redressnyc.com/mod-plussize-shift-dress/ http://remixvintageshoes.com/httaos. html http://bristols6.com/nippies-swim-sports-illustrated-swimsuit-crochet/nippies-swim-peacock-crochet-one-piece-black-unlined.html What is some advice you can give an aspiring actor/actress that is plus size? Let other people tell you no. Don't tell yourself no. Submit for everything, be you to the fullest degree, and watch them rewrite roles to suit you. Just don't cut yourself off at the feet. Give the world the opportunity to experience you.

StepDad

A quick Bio about the band(how long you guys been together? where did it start? coolest/break out moment) Stepdad started in Chicago in 2009. Ryan offered to help produce a solo album I'd been working on when we decided to totally set it aside and start our own project. We produced a few songs together and sought the advice of a random sentence generator for a band name. The word Stepdad popped up in one sentence and we landed on that. It was a simple, easy to remember, and unused band name. The first big moment was the day we uploaded the My Leather, My Fur, My Nails music video to YouTube and started getting about a thousand hits a day. It was really unexpected and was ultimately the reason we found management and got to the next step in our career. What was the inspiration behind my leather, my fur, my nails video? Honestly, it was mostly an economical matter. We went to our friend Titanic Sinclair and essentially asked him to make the cheapest video he could. We were charged a couple hundred bucks and shot for about an hour in his garage in front of a green screen. About a month and a half later he emailed us the final product. We were totally astounded. But all the credit definitely has to go to Titanic Sinclair, his imagination is boundless. Mark, is fashion important to you? and does it ever inspire your music? Fashion has always been important to me. When I was in middle school I always begged my mom to take me to the thrift store to make sure I didn't miss any good stuff that had been donated in the last few weeks. I always wanted to be wearing the most interesting stuff to school. I wore a lot of very bizarre things back then. My outfits have grown a bit more

cohesive in subsequent years. I've actually written songs with live performance in mind. Whenever I envision how live performances could be, I'm typically thinking about dream outfits. In that unusual way I suppose it can influence my writing from time to time. What do you wish men's plus fashion would do more of? EVERYTHING. Shopping for clothes is incredibly difficult for a guy my size who has any concern for how they look. Typically big and tall stores carry completely atrocious, ill-fitting rags for apathetic middle aged men. I have to scour the Internet for hours to find anything the I'm sure will fit well and look good. It takes the fun out of shopping sometimes. I also find it odd that Levi's manufactures skinny jeans in 42" waist but don't make them available on their own site. I've had to scour amazon and Macy's website to find them. I just think that the fashion industry needs to pay more attention to the fact that chubby guys give a shit how we look too. What can a fan expect when going to a stepdad show? A lot of dancing and drinking. Basically just a party.

Tell us in one word!

Glitter or sequins? Glitter for sure. Glam rock or pop? That's a really tough one. Justin Timberlake and Mark Bolan are equally monumental figures in My life. They're quite evenly matched genres. Vintage or high fashion? A little bit of both, it really depends on the occasion. Though on the vintage end I did just Find a super fantastic leather members only jacket at a vintage store in Pittsburgh.

What is coming up for the nunchix? 2013 is going to be rad-tastic! We're pleased as punch to release our first album! Working with Melbourne based collage artist Laura McKellar on the cover art was basically a dream come true. And if you just can't wait, we'll have a few pre-release copies of the album for sale at our shows!!! And for our hard core fans, we're performing brand new music that you can only hear at our live shows in person or streaming online! Favorite Show so far? The Viper Room Halloween show was amazing cuz the fans heard it was unicorn themed and they dressed up then got on stage and danced with us!!! Plus we had these Audience Participation Bags for sale so the whole room was blowing bubbles with us, glitter bombing their friends and wearing flashy blinky rings down the sunset strip!!!! Oh! and over the summer we were lucky enough to play City Stock, an infamous underground pool party music festival...after performing in a one-of-a-kind Cult of California bikini, I met Eric J Lawrence from KCRW...we are HUGE shameless fans of all things Public Radio...so when he asked us to send in our album we peed glitter! to making music videos. Our process revolves around wardrobe. Since I'm a size 20 and Bethany is a size 10 it's impossible to find off the rack fashion for both of us. We tend to have things made so we look to designers when planning a video... our favorite recent finds and hopeful future collaborators have been Curly-Vee an LA based imagination-tooth-fairy, and Lianna Sheppard, a UK based origami-fashion-master. finding new ways to mix tech and fashion is always the next step...

Can we ever expect a Nunchix clothing line? I tell ya...with band merch veering away from the simple tshirt, that is an excellent question. Adele had lyrics printed on pillow cases for her world tour. Kimbra had her silhouette printed on a scarf. I would love to see nunchix leggings and tshirt dresses...I basically would die and wake up in heaven if all our fans could come to a show from work or church and just change into nunchix garb...we would also LOVE to sell nunchix press on nails.

honor curves

When I was asked by Skorch to bring the #HonorMyCurves movement to the magazine, I was thrilled. This movement was borne out of my need to see positive body images of women who have overcome adversity, cultivated a love for personal style, an appreciation of themselves and their bodies, and a willingness to share a piece of themselves with other girls. For years I have felt unrepresented in the world of fashion and have felt like my body was neglected or shunned as “un-pretty”, to quote TLC, in the mainstream media. With #HonorMyCurves I am able to feature beautiful women from diverse backgrounds, each with a unique story that inspires us to hold our heads higher and appreciate ourselves more each day. These four women moved me to no end; view their Instagrams to read their full stories and peruse the #HonorMyCurves hashtag to see countless others whose stories inspire us to love ourselves more and always HONOR OUR CURVES. When you shine, we all shine. Own your curves, accept yourself, and never apologize for your beauty. xoxo Honor Curves
