Under such context, this project is situated along a prominent expressway and entry point into Seoul, the Gyeongbu expressway, in close proximity to the Yangjae Interchange, where both urban development and existing urban parks co-exists. This speculative proposal re-imagines the future entry point to Seoul.

Gateways of Seoul Past, Present & Future
Past:
Historic Seoul, Hanyang, was accessed through four main gates (Sungnyemun Gate, Donyemun, Sukjungmun, Honginjimun) and four smaller gates. These gates not only provided access and security to historic Seoul but also was a defining boundary and threshold.

Present:
Today, Seoul has greatly expanded its boundary and like many contemporary cities, vehicular access takes precedence over pedestrian access. In the context of a new green network, Seoul Green Ring, and the undergrounding of existing expressways, a new opportunity to re-define and celebrate the entry to Seoul is presented.

Future:
What would be an appropriate entry or gateway to a new green Seoul look like? This project presents a conceptual design of a new gateway to Seoul in the context of the 100-year masterplan and the Seoul Green Ring.
