2016 SUMMER CATALOG! Summertime is here! It’s time to head outdoors, hit the beach and maybe send the kids off to camp. Because adults deserve to have some fun too, we chose “Camp ShareASale” as the theme for this catalog. We hope it will stir up some childhood memories, inspire a summer activity or two, and help you usher in the summer months with excitement. For ShareASale, summer means we are frequently on-the-go. Various team members will be trekking across the country to attend conferences over the next few months. This year we bring our very own annual conference, ThinkTank, back to our home turf of Chicago, Illinois, to celebrate its 10th anniversary. The summer has a way of flying by before you know it. Soon enough, it will be fall and you will be in the throes of back-to-school fashion and tailgate prep (Go Bengals!). As the trees grow bare, you will be hard-pressed to prepare your blog for the holidays. But why wait until the last minute this year? Perform an audit on your Affiliate Program NOW to make sure everything is ready for fall and winter. It’s never too early to prepare for the fourth quarter madness.
ON YOUR BLOG First Impressions: Upon landing on your site, visitors should have a feel for who you are and what your blog is about in a matter of seconds. Ask yourself the following questions: Is my bio up-to-date and reflect who I am? Does my picture make me memorable? Are my social media links easily accessible? Are readers able to easily share my posts on their own social networks? Do I make it simple for followers to sign up for my newsletter?
Content Checklist: You’ve probably heard this at least 15 times now: Content is key. To must deliver quality, unique, and descriptive content be sure to: Create more colorful and engaging headlines. Resurface previously popular posts through your social media and newsletters (try to update with new information and new Affiliate links!) Use more call-to-actions at the end of posts, such as linking to relevant posts or directing your audience to sign-up for your newsletter. Keep a log of new ideas and brainstorms for blog posts to conquer unexpected Q4 writer’s block. Add community polls and discussion areas to increase engagement.

WHAT TO LOOK FOR IN A MERCHANT PROGRAM

Joining an Affiliate Network for the first time as a blogger can be exciting and overwhelming. You’re ready to take your blog to the next level with Affiliate Marketing, but there are so many choices on who to promote, even within your niche! I’m going to go over what to look for to ensure the brand is the best fit for your blog before joining an individual Affiliate Program.
First and foremost, you want to make sure the Merchants are relevant to your content. You can do this by searching for Merchants by category or by a specific keyword, such as an individual product or a general category. You can also perform more of an advanced search and input criteria that you want in a Merchant. Some things to include here may be: • For Coupon/Deal Bloggers: Has Coupons Available • For Product-Based Bloggers: Provides a Datafeed • All Blogger types: On Auto-Deposit (this will ensure that the Merchant’s account never goes offline!)

Once Merchants start to populate in your search results, these are the items I recommend to check out:
• STATS ShareASale provides a few different statistics about a program to take into consideration.
I also suggest looking at a few of their Previews. You can view what types of coupons, creatives and bonus campaigns they provide their Affiliates. Most importantly, you can preview their past newsletters. You want to be sure to work with Merchants that have active program managers and previewing their newsletters is one way to tell how much Merchants care about their Affiliates. Newsletters often provide information on new products, new creatives or an exclusive deal for you! If the last time they sent out a newsletter was more than a few months ago, that may be a red flag.
• EPC Earnings Per 100 Clicks. We have this spelled out for a 7-day and 30-day period. Essentially, if you refer a 100 clicks over to a Merchant in a 7-day period, the earning potential is X. So the higher, the better.
(SIDE NOTE: Be sure to also look at the ‘active on’ date. They may have no statistics or a lot of previews available because they’re brand new! This would be a good opportunity for you to be one of the first Affiliates in their program).
• COMMISSION RATE Important to note when deciding between similar Merchants! • COOKIE DURATION The longer, the better. This is the tracking gap to which you can earn commissions.
• REVERSAL RATE – Merchants can reverse a commission before payout due to a canceled order, a fraudulent transaction or returned merchandise. There’s always going to be some level of return, so don’t let that scare you away too much. We’ve all bought two pairs of shoes knowing that we’re going to send one back, right?! But, too high of a reversal rate should definitely be a red flag. • AVERAGE SALE & AVERAGE COMMISSION PAYOUT – This gives you a better insight to the program’s performance and what you can expect before you start promoting them.
You can always browse through our Top 100 Power Rank to view our top performing and most converting Merchants to see if there are any brands that would work well on your blog that you may be missing! There are numerous ways to find the right Merchants for you, but be sure to look at their commission rate, cookie duration, statistics, coupon and creative samples, and newsletters so you can start relationships with the BEST ones!
