When Facebook first started out, people rushed to the platform because of the many perks that it offered. One of those perks, and probably the most appealing, was the fact that Facebook was

ALERT INSURANCE AGENT HELPS UNCOVER CLIENT VICTIM OF IDENTIFY THEFT

L

OS ANGELES, Calif. — Dwen Curry, 47, of Winnetka, CA was arrested by Department of Insurance detectives and booked on multiple counts of identity theft and attempted grand theft and possession of 10 or more persons' personal identifying information.

Investigators with the Department of Insurance Investigation Division found a counterfeit driver's license, Social Security card and checks belonging to a previously unidentified victim, as well as dozens of stolen financial portfolios and personal information of other victims. How to stop it from happening: You might be wondering why this even matters, and how it really impacts you personally. The easiest way to answer those questions is to point out all of those big data breaches you hear

To see what information an app is accessing, click the pencil icon next to any of the apps to see and edit the settings. The first setting lets you set who can see that you use the app. It defaults to “Only Me,” so it isn’t a big deal. Below it, however, is another story. In the case of Skype, for example, it pulls your public profile information along with your list of friends, email address, birthday and hometown.

If you want to keep using the app, you can deselect certain items, such as your email address. Be aware that won’t remove the information from the app developer’s servers, however. If you change your email address in the future, however, the developer won’t get the new one. Remove apps you don’t use: If you don’t want to use the app anymore, you can click the

NC ARRESTS FIVE IN THREE STAGED U-HAUL ACCIDENTS

R

ALEIGH -- Insurance Commissioner Wayne Goodwin today announced the arrests of five Wilmington women in connection with an alleged staged auto accident ring. Investigators allege that over the course of three separate vehicle crashes, the women provided false statements to law enforcement and insurance companies in an effort to receive insurance benefits.

Doris Canty, 61, was charged with one count each of obtaining property by false pretense and insurance fraud. Jessica Denise Goodman, 39, was charged with three counts

each of attempting to obtain property by false pretense and insurance fraud, two counts of felony conspiracy and one count each of misdemeanor conspiracy and misdemeanor child abuse. Extase Shyneice Pollock, 21, was charged with two counts of felony conspiracy and one count each of injury to personal property, insurance fraud and misdemeanor conspiracy. Shaquetta Sade Washington, 20, was charged in New Hanover County with one count of aiding and abetting to obtain property by false pretense. Investigators seek Teresa Halsey Pollock, for two counts of felony conspiracy and one count each of attempted fraud.
