ISI INSPECTION 2020 Key Findings and Highlights

From the Headmaster I am delighted to confirm the results of the Independent Schools Inspectorate Report following their visit in March of this year. The Report itself comprises two sections; the first relating to matters of Regulatory Compliance, including Boarding, and the second to Educational Quality (the EQI Report). In the first section, the Inspectors conclude that we are compliant, meeting the regulations in all respects. There is no grading system, only a simple judgement of compliance or non-compliance. This judgement follows an exhaustive analysis of documentation, interviews with governors, staff and pupils, tours and observation of how policy is put into practice in all areas of the School. The Educational Quality Inspection examines two areas, Achievement and Personal Development. In broad terms, this can be distilled into academic and pastoral matters but, as we know in focusing on the wholeness of a Repton education, these two factors in the growth of a pupil are so often mutually dependent.

Again here, the judgement was based on parental surveys, pupil and staff interviews, lesson observation and scrutiny of pupils' work. In both Achievement and PersonalDevelopment, Repton was awarded'Excellent', the highest grade it ispossible to achieve. To have what weknow to be true - what we seearound us on a daily basis in our pupil body - confirmed by this ISI Report is an important moment. A Repton education is not only safe and ordered; it is a happy experience of the highest quality. I commend this Report to you and I am indeed proud to be the Headmaster of such a truly excellent school.

Key Findings The quality of the pupils' academic and other achievement is

excellent

Pupils make excellent progress and achieve outcomes which are well above national average levels at GCSE and A level. Pupils with EAL and SEND achieve to the same standard as their peers, aided by highly effective learning support. Throughout the school, pupils achieve highly and make excellent progress across the wide range of academic and extra- curricular opportunities available to them. Almost all university applicants achieve admission to their first or second choice of university, often to institutions and courses with high standards of entry, including those overseas.

Key Findings The quality of the pupils' personal development is

excellent

Pupils display highly positive attitudes to work and school life, and they work very productively both individually and as part of a group. Pupils have high levels of selfconfidence and self-knowledge and are consequently very well prepared for life after they leave school. Pupils develop excellent communications skills, and they speak with confidence and articulacy with their peers and with adults. Older pupils act as role models for younger ones and willingly take on the responsibilities that both the school and their houses provide them.

Highlights Repton is a harmonious place The school is a harmonious place in which to learn, and inspectors noted on their many visits to boarding houses that boarders from different backgrounds get on very well together, integrate quickly and mix freely. Pupils show excellent moral understanding and demonstrate this through their extremely good behaviour in lessons and around the school, as well as in the courtesy and consideration they display towards each other and to visitors. Pupils show a well-developed understanding of, and appreciation for, the non-material aspects of life. Pupils understand the importance of giving time to help improve the lives of those less fortunate than themselves.

Highlights The boarding experience is excellent A very large majority of parents of boarders, said that the boarding experience has supported their children’s personal development. A high proportion of boarders themselves agreed that boarding has helped them to become more confident and independent. On their many visits to boarding houses that boarders from different backgrounds get on very well together, integrate quickly and mix freely. Pupils behave well and willingly take on responsibilities in their houses and across the school.
