GREG COX Originally from Durban, where he studied photography, Greg Cox has now made Cape Town his home. He has photographed some of the country’s most creative spaces, including this month’s architectural home in Elgin (page 16). Greg is inspired daily by his natural surroundings and the landscape of Africa, but he also has an uncanny eye for detail. He believes that, in the everyday whirl of modern life, we forget what is really going on around us. ‘We need to take a step back, breathe and have a good look!’ It’s that clarity of focus that pulls together this story so beautifully.

PAUL MRKUSIC Paul, with his training as an architect and passion for all the visual arts, has been instrumental in injecting SAADA with new life. As the organisation’s CEO and a dealer in his own right (he also owns Bancroft, which specialises in silverware, vintage jewellery and curiosities, among many other collectables) he’s determined to bring the world of antiques and art to a new audience and make them accessible and livable. He delved into the ins and outs of investing in antiques in this month’s luxury feature (page 25).

I

find that not a day goes by without being inspired by talented South Africans who have found their niche and continue to celebrate our quintessentially unique design and architectural style. I also head for the country because a weekend out of the city never fails to restore and balance, which is why I am smitten with our architectural house of the month and could easily follow in architect Marcus Smit’s footsteps. An ardent Le Corbusier fan, he built his modernist oasis in leafy Grabouw (above right), an hour out of Cape Town. Take a look on page 16: it’s the corrugated metal roofing and slasto that resonates with me – I’m not sure why because, unlike Marcus, I really couldn’t bear slasto as a child. It seems I’ve come full circle, though. Nostalgia, perhaps? By contrast, architect and designer Shaun Gaylard’s apartment on page 38 (above left) is a masterful exercise in small space living. Chosen for its location in a beautifully lush and treed garden in the heart of Joburg, he’s converted a traditional apartment space into a calm urban oasis with his contemporary, slightly quirky style. On page 25, our luxury feature focuses on investing in covetable antiques and why the trend is drawing a new breed of collectors who are adept at sourcing pieces they can enjoy while appreciating beautifully. I

t was inevitable that the new Tiguan would be a great vehicle – Volkswagen doesn’t mess up its bread-and-butter models. Doing so would directly and catastrophically affect its bottom line. That’s why the Golf and Polo, placed second and seventh respectively on the list of top-selling cars globally in 2015, are leaders in their class. The outgoing Tiguan wasn’t far behind in the popularity stakes. In eight years, 2.8 million rolled off dealer floors worldwide, of which 19 000 were snapped up in South Africa. That it’s one of our most beloved soft-roaders is indisputable. The new one, then, had better be good. No, great. And it is – quite astonishingly so. Built on VW’s flexible MQB platform that also hides underneath that ubiquitous Golf, the new Tiguan is longer and wider than before, which is advantageous for interior space. It’s also lower, which aids the aesthetics. It looks hunkered down, resolved, confident in its adoption of VW’s newest visual language under design chief Klaus Bischoff. The news is equally good inside. Credit goes firstly to the longer wheelbase, which frees up space for legs in the rear, where the bench can also slide 180mm to toggle between maximum room for three adults

or a massive boot. And it truly is massive for its class – up 145 litres more than the Tiguan v1.0. But the real triumph lies up front. From the richness of the materials and textures that shame those of some supposedly more premium vehicles to the ease of use offered by the integrated infotainment system to the supportive seats and clear sightlines to the front, sides and rear, the Tiguan is a masterclass in functional design. Start up one of the 1.4-litre turbopetrol engines coupled to either a manual gearbox or dual-clutch automatic transmission (diesels will follow before year-end) and the vehicle stamps its superiority. Refinement is top-notch and the ride excellent across a plethora of road surfaces. It feels like there’s more than one model cycle between versions one and two, such is the advancements effected by Volkswagen’s engineering and design departments. There’s one potential snag, though, and it’s become a familiar one in 2016: pricing. The least-expensive Tiguan costs R378 000 and the range’s pricing sharply escalates from there. However, if the new version falls within your budget, rest easy in the knowledge that you’ve bought one of the market’s best – if not the best – compact SUVs. vw.co.za

A

rchitect Marcus Smit says, ‘My house is like a train station; people are forever popping in and out’. However, when his white steel structure started taking shape in the small Overberg village of Grabouw, an hour’s drive from Cape Town, many residents were appalled at the modern industrial building in their neighbourhood. ‘Most houses here are typical country homes, sometimes a barn style or thatched, and often timber,’ Marcus explains. ‘However, over the past decade people have got to know the house and have accepted it. Today it is almost completely sheltered by the garden and hardly visible from the street.’ Marcus designed his 225m2 modernist home as a pavilion set back on the 0.5ha site. The narrow 50m-long structure forms an impressive backdrop to the lush garden especially when viewed across the reflection pond or the dogs’ swimming pool, as Marcus often refers to it. He shares his home with two schnauzers, Luka and Flicka, and the greyhound cross, Kiku. His father, Ben, has his own studio space on the property with a separate entrance. Apart rom the generous si e o the site great or gardening and peace’ and the quiet neighbourhood, it was the forest-like setting and its vast number of tall trees that sealed the deal. ‘It’s so quiet here; if I had to complain about noise it would have to be about the frogs’ nocturnal croaking,’ Marcus laughs. ‘When I bought the site, there were mainly alien species such as pine and bluegum trees growing here. I managed to keep most of them during construction but I also planted a variety of indigenous species. I love the fact that my garden is wild rather than manicured. It is home to chameleons, insects, birds, frogs, bats and even the odd harmless snake. It self-sows; I stopped planting long ago. Nowadays, I just pull out plants and give them to friends.’ The natural landscape softens the rigid graphic lines of the steel structure, which is punctuated by tactile building materials such as concrete, bagged brickwork and corrugated iron. ‘I’m an avid Le Corbusier disciple. If I could have afforded it all the wet work would have been off shutter concrete a la Corb ’ Marcus trails off.

As an architect who is trained in modernist design, Marcus is partial to furniture of the Bauhaus era, along with an uncluttered, functional interior space. ‘With so many built-in units in the house, I needed only a few pieces of freestanding urniture and all o them are used. I can’t choose a avourite piece but I do find the Wassily chairs comfortable. I also love the combination of simple pine chairs with the steel-framed dining table in the kitchen.’ The lasto flooring is a childhood re erence. I grew up in a house with black lasto floors. It’s a warm earthy extension o the garden into the house. The brown hues show less dust and dirt when the dogs come running in straight from the pond, covered in mud.’ Colour is limited to olive-green accent walls and Marcus’ art and ceramics collection. ‘My love of ceramics and African art comes from my mother, who was a potter. My siblings and I practically grew up in her studio and were creative with clay from early childhood,’ he reminisces. The open-plan interior layout suits Marcus’ sociable lifestyle. In summer, the house lends itself to easy alfresco entertaining. The entire living area opens up onto the outdoor entertainment area with a bar counter along the kitchen window, a 10-seater table and a built-in braai. There are three guest bedrooms two on the me anine levels on either side of the living areas and another one on the ground level behind the kitchen. ‘The house can sleep 10 people so I always have space for friends who want to get out of the city, often for mountain biking in our valley. That said, it’s great to be alone here. That’s when I en oy my other hobbies painting reading and pottering in the garden. The scale is more intimate and personal compared with its initial appearance, yet it’s spacious and varied enough for entertaining large numbers of people.’ So what was it like to have himself as the client? ‘I was impossible! I had far too many ideas; I took too long with my design and of course I blew the budget. If I could rebuild the house now, it would be even more graphic and sleek. The older I get, the more I aspire to simplicity and a reduction of the design. But realistically, from a planning point of view, the house is perfect for me. A ceramic collection includes pieces from architect Marcus Smit’s mother and the Kalahari region, as well as traditional Zulu and Venda pots he collected over the years. The sunken floor separates the seating area from the circulation space that leads to the bedrooms and makes it more intimate. A steel staircase leads to the mezzanine level with a home office and a guest room, while the master bedroom is down the passage; an early 20th-century Linnware bowl with tamarillos (tree tomatoes) from the garden; a keen cook and entertainer, Marcus designed his outdoor entertainment area on the sunny northern facade, conveniently close to the kitchen’s stacking windows; the white leather sofa on the veranda is Marcus’ favourite spot for Sunday afternoon naps with his dogs, especially after a long cycle in the mountains. Ceramicist Nicolene Swanepoel crafted the three ceramic cow heads OPPOSITE A sunken floor defines the lounge, which is open-plan to the kitchen. A large Woods Ware crockery collection creates a striking focal point: ‘about 15 years ago, I stumbled upon a small set of 14 pieces at an antique shop, the start of my collection,’ Marcus explains. He designed the large dining table with an African mahogany top as a centrepiece to match the steel structure of the house. The pendants above the table are 1970s track lights salvaged from a renovation project. The Eric Duplan painting above the prep bowl is a favourite piece, with the splashback tiles chosen to match

The reflection pond, a modernist feature, attracts many birds, insects and frogs. ‘It was almost unintentional – there was a hole right here on the site,’ architect Marcus Smit says. ‘Its setting in the garden turned out to be special, as the garden developed around the pond. The house is north-facing: in winter, when the sun is low, the interior is flooded with sunlight and in summer, the roof overhangs keep the sun out. No mechanical cooling is required as the trees provide shelter from the harsh western afternoon sun and excellent cross ventilation keeps the interior naturally cool; Marcus’ collection of potted succulents and cacti; one of Marcus’ favourite artworks, Sit en Staan (translated as Sit and Stand) by sculptor Angus Taylor can be seen from the living areas and veranda

This one belongs to the master bedroom; the guest bathroom, also along the spine wall, is adorned with African masks; in the guest bedroom on the mezzanine level, the window follows the slope of the roof. ‘I created a straight line in my design but an architect friend suggested I make the line perpendicular to the roof slope. It worked beautifully. The shape is much more dynamic,’ Marcus explains. The throw is from Weylandts (weylandts.co.za) and the cushions from Skinny laMinx (skinnylaminx. com); the master bathroom has an indoor-outdoor feel. A urinal in the courtyard is a tongue-in-cheek reference to a home designed for two men. ‘And it saves water,’ Marcus adds OPPOSITE In the almost utilitarian master bedroom, a small shuttered window opening provides ventilation, while the large north-facing window inspired by Mexican architect Luis Barragán frames the garden view. he word anti ues may con ure up images o stuffy armchairs ill-suited to a sophisticated urban setting. But consider that the modernist design movement – with its less-is-more doctrine – is at least 100 years old. That means the iconic Eames chromed metal chair with moulded plywood seat is possibly as much of an antique as a walnut Biedermeier secretaire. Antiques are not limited to furniture, either. Artworks, clocks, cameras, coins, jewellery, ceramics, clothing, books, toys: these can all fall under the same category. But are they relevant in today’s lifestyle? ‘Apart from the cultural worth attached to older artefacts, which translates into monetary worth, antiques are something to have fun with – investments that you can actually enjoy,’ says Lynn Grant, owner of Take It For Granted. Lynn works specifically with fine English oak and country urniture and her Parkhurst shop has a definite aesthetic albeit with a contemporary edge. ‘The most successful investors, however, are the ones who are not afraid to take chances and be bold those who dare to be different ’ ynn continues. They do not collect according to a prescribed style or period but instead are guided by their instincts. They develop their passion by collecting individual pieces that are outstanding in their own right and are thus valuable.’ They also ollow different avenues of interest, mixing older items with newer ones in ways that contrast with

and highlight various qualities. The results are personal interiors that are beyond ashion: they are eclectic and engaging filled with a diverse mix o treasures. Each space becomes an extension of the personality of the person who created it. This is where the modernity and relevance lies. He adds, however, that age on its own is not a guarantee of desirability. ‘The 20th century designer pieces I deal in are not valuable by virtue of their age alone. Quality and association with a known designer are important to determine value,’ he explains. Antique dealers are a key element to building your own collection. The best are those who are knowledgeable and honest about their particular field and they inevitably have the best stock, too. Recognised associations are always a reliable choice. The two annual AA A airs ohannesburg in ctober and Cape Town in February – are excellent forums for potential investors to be guided in terms of their knowledge and collections. Riaan Bolt, a SAADA member, agrees: ‘It is possible to do well by following trends and trying to identify the next big thing. But successful investors in antiques and

vintage items are more likely to be individuals who break the conventional mould and follow their hearts. They are also people who recognise that investing in such collector’s pieces is a long-term commitment. The four elements that make for a good choice in any field are always the same: uality rarity condition and provenance. The early Cape furniture pieces I deal in are exceptional not because they are in vogue right now and fit well in contemporary outh A rican homes which they incidentally are and do but because they ulfil those uncompromising tenets.’ It sounds like an almost guaranteed success if one is willing to wait, buying and selling at the right times. But how do politics and economic climates impact on investing in antiques? ‘In some respects, antiques can be somewhat immune to the immediate political and economic climates,’ says Peter Mrkusic, part owner of the new online Bancroft Antiques shopping platform. ‘Unless the value of an item is deeply rooted in a particular environment – such as an artwork by an emerging South African artist – an antique can have global appreciation and thus work as a form of international currency.’ Peter, a dealer for many years who specialises in vintage jewellery, has good insight on this subject. ‘Quite apart from the four principles mentioned by Riaan that would give gold and silver vintage jewellery their value, these pieces are also made up of precious metals and gemstones (gold, silver, diamonds), which have their own intrinsic value. Even on this level, vintage jewellery has to make for a sound

investment anywhere on the planet and one that the owner can get much enjoyment from.’ Ricus Dullaert, the Dutch-born owner of the internationally renowned Kunsthandel HWC Dullaert, a regular feature at the annual SAADA fairs, has a slightly different viewpoint. Many years’ experience selling fine utch and European antiques and Asian artefacts across the world has taught me that politics and economics can play a large role in the possible appreciating value of various antiques. Several years ago the British pound was not as strong, so collectors in Holland were buying pieces and bringing them home. This buoyed the UK market up. ‘Then the Soviet Union collapsed and the Russians were keen for US dollars, so many superb antiques left Russia. However, as some Russians became wealthier, it created a good market for selling back into Russia again. Today, the Chinese market has grown enormously (and quickly) and the demand for antiques in China has shifted the international market yet again. When it comes to investing in antiques, identify places where individual wealth is increasing and predict what type of item they are likely to place value in,’ he says. Here in South Africa, this advice sets a challenge: where is the real money likely to be in the future? What kind of items are those looking to invest likely to covet? Spend some time trying to answer these questions successfully and you may end up enjoying your investments while their value increases beautifully.

TREAD CAREFULLY IN THE FINE-TUNING OF A PROPERTY SALE There are often a lot of comings and goings between a seller and buyer in negotiating a property sale agreement. In such circumstances, it is crucial not to lose track of the legal requirements for concluding a valid sale agreement. The Alienation of Land Act stipulates that all the material terms of the agreement must be reduced to writing and signed by the parties. This sounds simple enough, but the provision is the source for much case

law nonetheless. A recent decision in the matter of Cowley v Lai Thom illustrates this fact. In this matter the parties negotiated various changes to their sale agreement. A last minute amendment made by the purchaser was conveyed to and accepted by the seller, who then telephonically advised his attorneys that he accepted the amended agreement. He never signed the agreement after the last amendments. Then, when the relationship between seller and purchaser soured, the purchaser was successful in

his argument that the agreement was void as it was not signed by both parties after the last amendments were affected. EASY GREYS 01 Popular in Scandinavian design, it’s no surprise that easy greys are the most versatile of the neutral families. This is the route to go if you’re opting for a look that is soft and understated with almost-gossamer tones. HOW TO FIND IT The beauty of this colour family is its utter neutrality in terms of colour temperature, appearing neither warm nor cool but perfectly in between – the epitome of neutral. HOW TO USE IT For a soothing, serene feeling Easy greys are ideal for layering – with each other or with greys from other neutral families. Watch that is doesn’t become too boring, however, says Plascon (plascon.co.za) colour manager Anne Roselt. ‘Add different textures to create interest – wool, satin, sisal, wood, metallics. The common error with neutral schemes is they can become too matchy-matchy.’ For a strong, dynamic feeling If you’re more of an adventurous decorator, then this neutral family will serve as the perfect backdrop to brighter and more saturated colours, including primary yellows, navy blues and muted greens and reds. It balances these brights to ensure that they are not overpowering.

MONOCHROMATIC OR ARCHITECTURAL NEUTRALS 02 Black and white provides a distinctly architectural appearance. Purposefully cool, with a bluer undertone than other neutral families, this group creates a more hard-edged, clinical look that works well for minimalistic living. HOW TO FIND IT The black-and-white variations are, in fact, endless. If you’re looking for a purist approach, opt for Dulux (duluxpaints.co.za) Brilliant White and Dulux Dark Secret but be careful that the combination isn’t too stark. For something subtler, try off-white options such as Plascon’s Landing EC 76 paired with Plascon Pompeii, which has a powerful blue undercurrent. HOW TO USE IT A black-and-white scheme really does go with anything. But for an unmistakably architectural finish, pair these tones with similarly cool accent colours such as turquoise, blue-black or duck-egg blue. ‘Black has been a big trend as a feature wall – it’s dramatic and makes a statement,’ says Roselt. ‘It can be a bit hard to live with, though; I personally prefer a charcoal-grey such as Plascon’s Bovine’.

TRADITIONAL NEUTRALS 04 Like all things traditional, this sophisticated group of neutrals has an aged and timeless appeal, creating spaces that feel like they have existed forever. Despite its seemingly historical routes, this classic colour family can also call itself contemporary when used in the correct way. HOW TO FIND IT Choose your traditional neutral family by identifying its grey-green undertones. When used in an interior, traditional tones create softness. For a fail-safe traditional option, try a combination of Dulux’s Dusted Moss 1 to 4. Use Dusted Moss 2 or 3 on the walls and add a dramatic accent of 4 to a bookshelf, which will anchor the scheme by creating a comforting sense of depth. HOW TO USE IT For a contemporary look When paired with pitch blacks and brilliant whites, this neutral family is given a fresh and modern aesthetic. Adding accents of wood draws out the natural green undertones for an earthy and textured appearance. For a traditional look If you want to create a more classic look, pair these neutrals with hues that have a suitably aged feel, such as mustard yellows, burnt umbers, ochres and green-greys.

Cool colours such as gentle blues and greens make a room appear larger than it is. Warm hues, which have a red undertone, cause a room to appear smaller. Use warm colours in areas where you want to create a sociable, active atmosphere and cool colours in areas where you want to create a peaceful, intuitive air. Colours with a similar tone work well together such as a strong yellow and a strong blue. Accent colours work well to lift a scheme; think of a bright pink flower on a black dress. For an interesting scheme use the 60-30-10 principle: 60% being the colour for the main wall, 40% another hue similar in tone (this may be curtains or fabric) and 10% accent colour (a feature wall or accessories such as cushions, paintings or objects). Balance cool colour schemes with warm colours. For example, introduce some red, orange or yellow accents to balance and warm a cool blue scheme. A colour may not look perfect until the furnishings and plants are placed back in the room. The effect of light can change the look of a colour. If you are unsure, test it first by painting a piece of card (1m by 1m) and place it on different walls of the room at various times of the day.

T

hey say that life imitates art. But in Shaun Gaylard’s case, it’s also a case of art imitating life. An architect by profession, Shaun started a side project a few years ago inspired by his love of the built environment. The Blank Ink Design brand was a natural evolution of his day job and started as intricately rendered guides depicting iconic South African and international structures. Shaun is always looking for new and interesting ways to express his creativity outside of architecture and the brand began as a gift for his partner. ‘The A-Z guide to architects was originally drawn for him,’ says Shaun of the series’ first design, which has now evolved into a larger product line. Blank Ink gives Shaun something that architecture doesn’t: instant gratification. ‘While architecture is incredibly rewarding, I have to wait months – sometimes even years – before a project reaches completion or gets to a point where the client can see their dream fulfilled,’ he explains. Shaun’s range of city-celebrating products has grown from the initial city guides to include limited-edition product ranges (ceramic plates last year and this year a collection of monochromatic scatter cushions). He tries to draw two to three new guides a year. ‘I’ve also collaborated with Kerri Voogt, a retail industry expert. We worked together on the fabric selection and CMT process,’ he says. His latest venture is a collaboration with Builders Warehouse on a range of colourful and graphic single-building canvases, a fun and simplified version of his city guide. ‘It’s been a huge learning curve but phenomenally rewarding,’ says Shaun. Architecture filters into his home life, too, his profession making him a savvy homeowner and renovator. The beautifully appointed Illovo apartment he shares with his partner in one of the older and much sought-after buildings typical of the area has been sensitively and subtly upgraded to make it more livable, without sacrificing its character. ‘Often it’s the small details that really make a huge improvement to the

way we live in a space,’ he says. ‘If I could choose one feature that has really transformed our apartment, it’s the folding sliding doors that divide the balcony and the living room. The fact that the two rooms can be converted into one large indoor/outdoor area makes it such a great space to spend time in,’ he says. The compact but cleverly conceived apartment is also decorated with cool design pieces and art that often alludes to architecture and design. ‘We found most of the objects in our home while travelling,’ comments Shaun on the eclectic mix. ‘We try not to furnish the house with too much by one designer as it ends up looking like a showroom.’ One of Shaun’s key design tricks is finding balance with the flow and placement of furniture. Creating defined spaces and emphasising these with wall art and lighting has made the relatively small space seem bigger. Although the apartment is so pleasant that it seems strange he’d ever want to venture beyond the building’s incredible gardens (the older buildings in Joburg have huge, lush treed outdoor spaces that make up for being in such a big and unforgiving city), he does have his favourite hangouts. ‘I love exploring the neighbourhood around Parkview and Westcliff – I often take long walks and snoop at the house renovations in the area,’ he says. blankinkdesign.com

I you are underinsured or not insured at all when disaster strikes this could end up costing you ar more than you ever saved on your premiums. That said it’s possible to reduce what you are paying without taking lesser cover. All you need is an understanding o how insurers evaluate you and your risk setting your premiums accordingly. To do this they take a number o things into account including your credit record and claims history. Consumers with a better credit record are considered lower risk and will be charged lower premiums. This is another reason or managing your debt prudently and making sure you always keep up with monthly payments on items such as cellphone contracts. In terms o your claims history consumers who claim too o ten will be flagged as high risk. It is the

INVESTOR BENEFITS OF BUYING OFF PLAN Investors who buy close to launch receive up to 12 months’ free capital growth while the development is still under construction. Investors typically only qualify for 90% bonds, which means putting down 10% in cash. Buying a new property means they minimise further cash requirements since all costs incidental to financing and transferring the property are included in the purchase price. Investors can optimise their tax liabilities through residential investment, subject to various provisions in the Income Tax Act. A primary requirement is that the property should be new and previously unused. Buying from a developer helps to ensure that properties conform to those requirements.

OFF PLAN A TO Z The buying process begins with a sale agreement and deposit – usually 10%. Blok requires that a cash deposit be paid to the conveyancing attorneys within seven days of countersignature. This is invested in an interest-bearing trust account until transfer, when the interest is repaid to the purchaser (less administrative fees). Summercon requires a flat deposit sum of R20 000. Raising a bond is handled similarly to any other property purchase with prequalifying checks and documentation. A second ‘deposit’ may also be requested: the difference between the 10% deposit paid, plus the bond amount raised and the purchase price. Some established developers have, over time, forged unique relationships with bond originators or banks. If you buy into a Summercon development and raise a bond through one of their dedicated consultants at one of four banks, Summercon covers the transfer fees (you may have to cover those costs for other banks used). When buying directly from a developer – off plan or not – one of the come-hither drawcards is the lack of transfer duty. Note, you’re not saving transfer fees but transfer duty (government tax) because developers are invariably VAT vendors. If the developer is VAT-registered, or if your property purchase is more than R600 000 (transfer duty not applicable below that), you’ll save a maximum of about 7% transfer duty. But you will pay 14% VAT, included in the price of the property you’re buying (this often goes unnoticed). Some developers build a new clubhouse (and sales office) offering a good sense of the architectural language. Others install basic infrastructure. The cost per square metre of an off-plan sectional title unit is generally higher than that of a second-hand property ... do compare apples to apples. It’s difficult for buyers to visualise an off-plan unit. As one agent said wryly, ‘the unit is never as big as they imagined’. Few developers build a show house – many have sophisticated 3D impressions and scale models. The Blok app (free via the Apple iStore) allows potential buyers a virtual walk-through of their future apartment.

rowthpoint Properties CEO Norbert Sasse was recently awarded the South African Property Association’s (SAPOA) inaugural Lifetime Achievement Award. Although honoured, he was equally taken aback: ‘The other contenders had a great depth of property experience – essentially, my background is financial. I’m a chartered accountant and my passion is corporate finance funds management and listed property.’ This award by the voice of commercial property in South Africa recognises the exceptional contribution made by an individual considered to have changed the face of the local property sector. Sasse is acknowledged to be the driving force behind Growthpoint’s success story and was deeply involved in the formulation of South Africa’s internationally recognised real estate investment trust REIT dispensation. That wasn’t the only SAPOA award for which Growthpoint took to the podium. Two further awards endorsed their objective to be leaders in sustainable buildings.
