CHAD SHEALY SUPERINTENDENT VICKSBURG-WARREN SCHOOL DISTRICT Superintendent Chad Shealy signed on to lead the Vicksburg Warren School District (VWSD) in October of 2013. Under Mr. Shealy’s leadership, the Vicksburg Warren School District has made great strides toward their goal of graduating all students ready for college or career and prepared for a productive life. Under his direction, VWSD was named one of the state’s first Districts of Innovation. In his three years at VWSD, Mr. Shealy has implemented initiatives focused on improving student outcomes including adding fourteen pre-kindergarten classes, increasing enrollment at the Academy of Innovation STEM Middle School by over 300 students and creating an early college high school. Other district high schools are being transformed to the academy model and wall-to-wall implementation will be complete in the 2018-19 school year. Mr. Shealy began his career in education as a teacher at Rosa Scott Middle School in Madison, Mississippi, but gained most of his 18 years of experience in the Hinds County School District where he served as a teacher, assistant principal, and principal. His work at Hinds County was recognized when he was chosen as the School District’s 201213 Administrator of the Year and went on to be named Mississippi’s Administrator of the Year by the Mississippi Department of Education. He is an active member of the Mississippi Association of Middle Level Educators (MAMLE) and served as the organization’s president in 2009. He also sits on the state’s Superintendents Advisory Committee and is a current board member of the Program of Research and Evaluation of Public Schools (PREPS). A native of Byram, Mississippi, Mr. Shealy and his lovely wife, Shanon, reside in Vicksburg with their three sons. When he is not in his office, he can usually be found cheering on his sons’ baseball teams or spending time outdoors hunting or fishing. 2

DISTRICTS OF INNOVATION CORINTH Corinth School District’s plan included creative scheduling, rigorous curriculum, high school options, and opportunities for all students to succeed.

GULFPORT Gulfport School District’s plan included high school academic institutes, enhanced dual credit/dual enrollment opportunities, and college- and career-focused curriculum.

VICKSBURG-WARREN Vicksburg-Warren School District’s plan included multiple middle and high school opportunities, early college high school, pre-kindergarten options, and leadership-focused curriculum.

CEU/SEMI/OSL INSTRUCTIONS All participants are responsible for recording session codes to receive CEU/SEMI/OSL credit. Please follow directions below to receive CEU/SEMI/OSL credits. 1.

Coach University is a structured program of professional learning designed to develop exceptional instructional coaches in schools and districts across Mississippi. The program is designed to build a cohesive foundation for instructional coaching while developing sustainable staff capacity. The Coach University curriculum is specific to the Mississippi education landscape, with a strong emphasis on instructional strategies that support the Mississippi College- and Career-Readiness Standards.

INNOVATIVE TEACHER INSTITUTE

AUGUST 1-2, 2017

The Innovative Teacher Institute is a structured program of professional learning designed to enhance instructional practices in all classrooms by emphasizing student-centered learning strategies. This training is specifically designed for teachers, instructional support staff, and principals interested in increasing the rigor and level of student engagement in their classrooms and schools. Participants will learn instructional strategies that ensure students are reading, writing, thinking, and talking in each class every day while supporting the Mississippi College and Career Readiness Standards.

mpact Learning is a network of schools and districts engaged in innovative practices promoting personalized, student-centered learning designed to ensure that all students graduate prepared for their future. Services provided by Impact Learning are based on six foundational design principles: Ready for College and Career, Require Powerful Teaching and Learning, Personalization, Redeﬁne Professionalism, Leadership, and Purposeful Design. These design principles, coupled with learner-centered strategies, create powerful learning experiences for all students. Instructional Coaching

Impact Learning helps district leadership evaluate current organizational structures in order to design innovative plans that create continuous improvement cycles leading to aligned instructional systems and practices.

Impact Learning instructional coaches partner with teachers to increase student engagement and achievement. Opportunities exist for teachers to join a one-year cohort to become building-level coaches.

College and Career Readiness

High Performance Leadership Institute

Impact Learning supports individual pathways for students to prepare them for college, career, and life.

HPLI brings together small teams of school-based educators for six two-day sessions over a span of two years. Session topics include characteristics of excellence and high-performing schools, crucial conversations, success and collaboration, best practices for hiring, using data to drive achievement, and building action plans.

Education-Industry Partnerships To increase opportunities for work-based learning, Impact Learning helps educators and students connect with local businesses and industries.
