FOOD ENTREPRENEUR OF THE YEAR

Ty Washington AUTHOR

Ty Washington loves to learn and is happiest when she’s helping others learn, too. She is the founder of Helping Hand Sewing School, a non-profit organization. It was originally created to offer sewing classes for young people at summer camps. She is aware that sewing is sometimes seen as an archaic hobby. But with her 30 years as a seamstress, she knows it’s one of the best methods of self-expression. She’s spent 10 years teaching the craft and watching her students blossom. Kids at camp aren’t the only ones who benefit from the sense of accomplishment involved in wearing their own creations. Ty has offered her classes to social service agencies that support individuals facing serious life-altering challenges. These existing programs help victims of abuse, recovering addicts, ex-offenders and others. Ty’s loving kindness includes disadvantaged young women without a prom dress. She sympathizes with the acute sense of being left out that they feel. One of her most recent goals for Helping Hand Sewing School is to give away dresses to a few deserving young ladies. Ty will design dresses that will help them make very personal statements. She won’t need to start from scratch with new fabric. One of her greatest gifts is ‘flipping’ a dress from one style to another. She can turn inexpensive but out-of-date dresses into something even Cinderella would love. You can learn more about it here: Flipped Kouture. When Ty envisions Helping Hand’s future, she sees free or nearly free classes for any one who wants to learn. But this can’t be accomplished without financial support. This is why she’s set it up as a charity. Any funds donated will go toward equipment and materials to help budding seamstresses reach their greatest potential.

HEALTH & BEAUTY ENTREPRENEUR OF THE YEAR

180 LYFE

Archie J. Jenkins

I’m Archie J. Jenkins, also known as Mr. 180, the serial entrepreneur. I’m a photographer/ videographer, an emcee, an actor and a personal stylist. I’m the creator of 180Lyfe Enterprises, a hit magazine and the author of “30 Day Affirmations - For The Changed.” I'm a brand advancer, motivational speaker and marketing guru. I’m a networking host, putting on monthly mixers so entrepreneurs can meet and grow their business using resources from local businesses around them. While I wear many hats professionally, I’m also a husband, son, brother, uncle and friend. I believe these titles are just as important. My motivation comes directly from my past. In my early adult years I was charged with a few felony convictions. During my incarceration, I began reflecting on what mattered most to me and 180 Lyfe was created. I’ve always been a visionary, but once I wrote the vision and made it plain, things began to shift in my life. Giving back to others has always been a passion, but I got to a point where I decided to give back to myself. I knew in order to walk in my purpose, I had to get outside my comfort zone, so with a changed mindset, I made a commitment to myself and my dreams. A commitment that my God given gifts have laid the groundwork for. With 180 Lyfe flourishing and thriving, I’ve learned a lot, the most important thing being that with hard work, persistence, faith in God and prayer, all things are possible. I want people to know that “It’s Not Where You Start, But Where You Finish” because as long as you’re living, you have the opportunity to build a legacy you and your family can be proud of. Shay Beasly

SHAY'S FRUIT BOUQUETS

Growing up I never thought that Shaterika Beasly would turn into Shay’s Fruit Bouquets. I was born April 13, 1990 in Houston, Texas. I am the mom of Carter Bacon, Sister of Emmanuel Gordon, Daughter of Denise Gordon and Norman Ledet, and grand-daughter of Jean Ledet. Growing up I heard words like, “You may make A’s and B’s, but you’re still stupid.” I never let those words turn me into a victim. Instead, it encouraged me to prove them wrong and become the woman I am today. My mom struggled with a drug addiction, but has been sober for over 15 years and that’s what makes her a big inspiration to me. Despite the statistics that I wouldn’t be successful, I graduated Cum Laude at Nimitz High School in 2008 and then went to The University of Houston where I obtained my Bachelors Degree in Education. Once I graduated, I was indecisive on the path I wanted to take to the top. One day my mom created a Fruit Bouquet, so I put it into the teacher’s lounge. In about 2 weeks I had about 30 orders. The light bulb instantly came on and in 2015, I created Shay’s Fruit Bouquets. In May of 2020, I resigned from education and decided to pursue this dream full time. This was the hardest decision, but the best decision I have ever made. Now I have the opportunity to inspire others to become whatever they want regardless of their circumstances. I know God designed this for my life and I’m excited to share my sweet treats with the world.

Michaelseye fotographi

PHOTOGRAHER

I'm a man who loves art, music, fashion and photography, but photography is my happy place; it's what I love and live to do!! I knew from an early age that photography was what I wanted to do when I would watch my father capture some great moments in life. It was from his example that really gave me my foundation for photography. I went to school and got educated on the foundations of photography but it has been my love for it that has allowed me to push and become the "artist" that I am today. I say artist because I love to create visual art thru my work, as well as create conversation pieces that can generate great thoughts that can be shared. So far, in my 22 years of photography, I have been blessed to work and network with some great people. I have traveled throughout the country to connect with people who enjoy "being captured" thru my lens. This love has also birthed the beginning stages of my apparel line, which is called GET CAPTURED APPAREL. I have been able to use my creativity to design some great styles of casual wear that has been debuted in a few fashion shows. I am currently working on a new women's line for GET CAPTURED APPAREL, so that I can have a more diversified line of apparel for men and women. My goal in photography and fashion is to reach as many people as possible, to share my love for what I do, and hopefully inspire someone to never give up, push, and reach their goals as well. Life is short so we have to stay focused on the things that matter, and live everyday with Purpose. I thank God for the gifts that he gave me and I want to use them everyday, in the best way I know how.

Shay Sunshine

HONEY HAIR & LASHES

Houston based Protective hairstylists Honey Sunshine a beauty service professional who specializes in the fashioning and treatment of hair, after establishing herself as a successful hairstylist over the past 4 years she has been able to expand her craft into a yet another 6 figure Black Owned Business. Hairstylist/Owner of Qween Beez Salon- Since the age of 10 years old I've had the affinity of all things hair, hair was always another form of art for me. Although I've always had a passion for making others feel good about themselves and very keen on boosting self esteems, in the beginning of my Journey it hasn't always come easy. After working for Corporate America with no room for growth after 7 years in the medical field, I felt it was time to take a leap of faith and ran straight into the world of beauty. I had no idea what Gods plan was for me but I knew for sure it wasn't to work a 9-5 for the rest of my life. I had to find my niche so I started as a part time entrepreneur, and started making passive income of 3 times more than I would working towards someone elses dream. In that moment is when I knew my life was about to change, so I started working towards my own Dreams full time. From the very beginning of my hair path my mantra has always been to create styles with love and care, to give personality and be creative and versatile. For me, the focus is always how you make your clients feel. Getting your hair styled by a professional is a uniquely personal experience, and as a hairstylist that is my responsibility.

Late 2021, Max debuted The Greasy Spoon Foodtruck and plans to open The Greasy Spoon Pearland before 2022. A Diva was born! She been modeling for two years now and within that time she have developed a lot into a plus-sized model. That’s right a PLUS-SIZED MODEL! She can say now overcoming a lot of body shamming that she is proud of her curves. Which lead her to create her own brand C.H.I.K (Curvy Hips Is Kooler). Didn’t realize until she started modeling the platform she have to advocate being plus-sized. That’s when “Diva” was created to be the opposite of her everyday self. The confidant, the bad ass, the motivator and risk taker. Modeling does just that and this Diva is very true to her brand. She has achieved above and beyond, even in the last couple of months. From doing shows locally to doing fashion shows in NYC for fashion week. Not only did she get to work with an amazing jean designer out of Dallas, but was featured on a billboard. She was also published in a local Houston magazine not once, but twice along side being a Brand Ambassador for Oliva Fine Jewelry & Accessories & Medley737 Essentials. Besides working with Queens Entertainment as a lead model, she is constantly evolving. Modeling as you can see is not a hobby its her life. This Diva gets no breaks.
