Strategic Plan 2022 - 2026

Radley College Sport Strategic Plan 2022- 2026

Radley College sport continues to be a well respected entity, with many prospective families citing our sporting strength and diversity as a key determinant for them wanting to educate their child/children at the College.

Sport at Radley College has made good progress over the last six years, but we now seek to establish a new narrative under which we can provide clarity with respect to both our vision for sport at Radley and the philosophy with which we expect to see that sport played and coached in.

The focus, therefore, for the next five years is for us to collectively embrace the concept of continuous improvement. This will allow us to consolidate and capitalise upon the momentum that we have created. In doing so we aim to create positive sporting memories for all of the pupils at Radley College "making memories" should therefore also be a priority when we reflect on why and how we coach our sport.

The following values, established by our 2021 22 co curricular prefects should form the foundations for everything that we are trying to achieve in our sports programme over the next five years.

Values

INTEGRITY be honest and hard working. Respect your teammates and your opposition, making sure to be gracious and reflective in both victory and defeat.

INTENT always show a firm resolve to complete what you have started and to complete it well. Know that achievements will involve periods of difficulty, determination, and robustness.

COURAGE have strength in the face of adversity, showing mental and moral strength to persevere and withstand fear or difficulty.

COLLEGIALITY share responsibility through success and failure. Understand and acknowledge the efforts of everyone involved in making your sport possible

Our Philosophy

The primary objective for sport at Radley is to create an environment in which pupils of all abilities can strive for success, achieve that success, and then be rewarded for their accomplishment.

Our Vision

Is that Radley is rightfully able to claim that no other Independent Boys Boarding school can match us for success in relation to our participation levels but also the success that we generate in both our land and water based sport.

Radley Sport 2022 – 2026

Through the lifetime of the 2022 2026 plan, we remain committed to providing regular competitive opportunities for all of our squads. We, along with the College’s stated aim, must remain wedded to the principle that sport is about much more than measurable results we therefore need to measure those other variables upon which we determine a success criterion; I refer here to the development of character, the opportunity to compete, to learn from those experiences, growing both physically and mentally. Radley sport is about helping to shape the young men that the world needs: purposeful, tolerant, compassionate, and kind.

Our strategy is based around the four core pillars that support the College’s strategy:

PEOPLE who we coach sport to and how we coach it. Ensuring that the intake of boys reflects our values and aspirations, including the provision of opportunities for those that are talented and deserving from all backgrounds.

PLACE where. Ensuring that the school provides and is well known for providing top class coaching on top class facilities.

PARTNERSHIP with whom and to whom do we coach sport. Taking seriously our place in the local community and recognising the value of effective collaboration and communication in all we do.

PURPOSE using sport to give all of our boys the understanding, skills and awareness to contribute positively to an ever changing world/workplace.

How will we achieve this?

TARGET CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT – coaches and pupils must focus on doing everything 1% better than you did it before, always want to better yourself and do not just accept minor imperfections. Strive to be the very best that you can be.

ADAPTATION OF THE FIXTURE CARDS

double blocks and the re introduction of fixtures with schools who can offer the necessary numbers of teams. Exposure to more National competition where suitable.

PARTNERSHIPS IN SPORT Active Oxfordshire. The school games organised by Active Oxfordshire and hosted by Radley three times a year are to become a prominent medium through which we create develop opportunity for local children and offer further education through our Sports STEPS programme. More club competitions and fixtures to become more frequently played at Radley. We will also seek to develop the number of sporting opportunities with DH. “Respect project”.

We will also seek to:

Link sporting strategy and targets with wider school thinking, particularly in the area of resilience.

Encourage academic curiosity through sport and ensure that oa hes/do s a e getti g eg la i set oppo t ities
