SHELLS During the first three weeks of the Michaelmas Term, all the Shells are taken around the various sports Radley has to offer so that they can experience each one. They are introduced as Socials with their Mentors to the following: Rackets, Fives, Squash, Golf, Badminton, Real Tennis, Rowing and Hockey. All the Shells also visit the Countryside Centre and there are opportunities during the term to experience Beagling. The Shells are also given a Swimming competency test, and a capsize test as well.

Wet Bob/Dry Bob In the Michaelmas Term, Shells play Rugby as the major game. Please note that Shells can choose between contact and non-contact Rugby. On long afternoons (Tuesdays and Thursdays) they may also attend practices in other sports, such as Hockey, Sculling, Rackets, Fives, Squash, Golf and Real Tennis. Cricket nets are also available after the Michaelmas weekend exeat. At the end of the Michaelmas Term, Shells make a choice between becoming a Dry Bob (Hockey in the Lent Term, Cricket in the Summer Term) or a Wet Bob (Rowing in the Lent and Summer Terms). There is some flexibility in the Summer Term to play Tennis or Athletics on a case-by-case basis.

REMOVES AND FIFTHS In the Removes and Fifths, the major games are Rugby, Hockey, Rowing and Cricket. Boys may also pursue the Alternative Sports Programme in the Michaelmas Term. The sports on offer are: Badminton, Basketball, Beagling, Cross Country, Fives, Golf, Hockey, Sailing, Football, Squash and Swimming. Some selected boys do a Racquets Sports Suite of Squash, Rackets and Real Tennis. At the end of the Michaelmas Term in the Remove year there is a selection process to determine the JC1 Hockey team. In addition, the best 16 rowers from the previous year’s J14.1 & J14.2 boats will continue to row. The football club will then hold trials in order to select 15 players for the JC1 football squad. The MiC Hockey and the Hockey Professional will

then coordinate the selection of the JC2, JC3 and JC4 Hockey squads (by arrangement with the Director of Sport and Tutors). The MiC Rowing will also then select a J15.3 squad (again by arrangement with the Director of Sport and Tutors). Once this has been achieved the MiC Football will select the JC2 football squad. Any boy who gives up Rowing after the J14 year and does not make the JC1 football squad will be expected to play Hockey in the Removes. In the Fifth Form, Dry Bobs may opt for Hockey or Football. In the Summer Term boys may choose Cricket, Rowing, Tennis, Athletics, Polo and Rugby Academy.

SIXTH FORM In the Sixth Form boys have a free choice of all of the sports on offer: Athletics, Badminton, Beagling, Cricket,

Cross Country, Fives, Football, Golf, Hockey, Polo, Rackets, Real Tennis, Rugby, Sailing, Squash and Swimming.
