CHARITIES REPORT Lent Term 2022
We live in very troubled times with a global pandemic, wars, climate concerns, high cost of living and economic recession which can negatively affect many people’s mental health and create new barriers for people already suffering. It has been an inspiration to see so many of the Radley Community generously giving their time, money, and equipment to help those in need during the Lent Term 2022. This has been done in tried and tested ways, whilst also embracing new and innovative approaches. As our partnership programme with several inspirational charities has grown, the boys have also been better able to see how these fundraising and volunteering efforts have had real impact on these communities and the wider society.
Highlights during the Lent Term 2022 include: a staff quiz night, Gala Music Concert, C Social Cultural Evening and D Social Malvern Hills walk—all for the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal; generous gardening equipment donations from the Radley community in support of Oxfordshire Youth and Young People’s Supported Accommodation; Tom de W and Oscar N raising funds for Alzheimer’s Research UK during the Remove Play ‘Dodo’ and selling Radley headphones; a shoe cleaning machine raising money for Bullying UK; Tereza Horacek running 56 miles for Cancer Research and Quincy N, Poj W, Gareth N and Henry M organising a charity ‘Badminthon’ event raising £860 for Macmillan Cancer Support. Coming soon … a team of staff and students have entered the Oxford Town and Gown 10km run raising funds for Muscular Dystrophy, a ‘home clothes’ day for the DEC Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal and finally, Radley hoodies and trophy glasses are being made available for sale, the full proceeds of which will go to charities close to the hearts of the boys involved.
