If signed up for Lunch Bunch, the staff will escort children to 1pm or 1:30pm camps. Mix & Match sports & gymnastic camps between 1pm-4pm for both age groups. Our staff will supervise children during the transitions from Li’l Ventures or Adventure Zone camps & the time between the two Mix & Match Camps. 8-9am for parents who need to drop their children off earlier to get to work on time. $5/day; pay at front desk. 5:30-6:30pm for ages 6-10 for parents who need to pick up their children later in the day. $5/day; pay at front desk.

Please inquire about Payment Plans. EPCC requires notification by the Thursday prior to the first day of camp for full refunds. Late cancellations will be charged for a minimum of one day & prorated for each camp day through notification time.

Never a dull moment! Some activities are indoors & some are outdoors. Be prepared for both! Don’t forget your sunscreen & water bottle! Each week has a theme to spark creativity & to explore new ideas & topics. This is our #1 priority. We examine our equipment for safe usage & assure that our materials are non-toxic, our games & sports fair with an emphasis on good sportsmanship & respect for each other. Camp Staff are trained in emergency response procedures. The EPCC aquatic staff are always available & are extensively trained in modern CPR/First Aid techniques. All participants must be checked in & out by an adult & all children must have a contact sheet on file in our office. Children should wear sports shoes with closed toes for active indoor & outdoor activities. Also, morning camp participants should bring a lunch. Snacks are provided, though an additional snack should be sent for those in Summer Daze afternoon camp. All campers should bring a water bottle. Portland Parks has been providing activities to kids in Portland way before cell phones, iPods, gameboys or any other technological advances were invented! We operate under the philosophy that kids should be active & engaged with their peers during the day camp experience & therefore, do not allow these distractions at our camps. Portland Parks and Recreation provides assistance to those needing special accommodations to participate in our programs. Register for the camp & then contact Inclusion Services at (503) 823-4328. A minimum of ten working days before the first day of camp is required to request inclusion services. Our schedule combines indoor & outdoor experiences, active time, as well as time to just relax, free choice activities & more in-depth directed activities. All children are encouraged to participate, but never forced to. Alternate activities that can be done in the same space as the group will be offered. Occasionally, a camp will include a guest speaker & special educational experiences.

LAP SWIM ETIQUETTE “Circle Swimming” is a necessity when more than two people are in a lane. Lane lines divide lap lanes, Think of the lane as a highway, always stay on the right hand side. Like a highway lap lanes may become crowded, at these times “circle swimming’ is a necessity. Lap lanes are designated according to a swimmer’s speed; slow, medium & fast. Look at the yellow markers and the end of the pool to find your appropriate lane. LAP SWIM (Lap Pool) We will make every attempt to have 1-2 lap lanes available, at all times, for adult lap swimmers. Up to 4 lanes will be available at designated times, call 503-823-3450 for complete schedule of lap lanes available during operating hours.

GROUP and DAYCARE GUIDELINES Group attendance must be prearranged & is considered on a first come, first serve basis. Call 823-1994. For the safety of your group, counselors & supervisors must be in the water supervising the children at all times.

Please follow the group ratios below:

• 1 adult per 3 children ages 5 years old and under. • 1 adult per 4 children of mixed ages, over 6 years old and under 6 years old. • 1 adult per 10 children ages 6 and older. All counselors must sign in at the front desk & be within sight & sound of every child for your entire visit. Life jackets are available for all non- swimmers.

INCLUSION SERVICES FOR PEOPLE WITH SPECIAL NEEDS Within the Americans with Disability Act (ADA) of 1990, Portland Parks & Recreation (PP&R) provides accommodations to individuals with disabilities/special needs, so that they may receive an equal opportunity to fully participate in programs offered citywide. How it Works First choose the activity you’d like to do & the PP&R site at which you’d like to do it. Next, register for the class. When registering, let the person know that you will need accommodations in order to participate in the activity. Once registered, contact Inclusion Services at (503) 823-4328. If this is your first accommodation through Inclusion Services, you will need to do a phone intake with a staff member at that number. At the end of the phone intake it will be determined whether an assistant will be needed on the first day of the activity to provide o n-site support at the age-appropriate class. Future assistance will be provided based on need. The inclusion staff will work with the instructor on how to support you and your individual needs. A general program may be adapted using auxiliary aids & services, but the basic structure of the program remains the same. Accommodations are made as needed & can be flexible & creative, ensuring the participant engages as independently as possible. If you have questions about Inclusion Services, please call 503-823-4328 V/TTY. A minimum of 10 business days (MondayFriday) advance notice is required. The Inclusion Services staff will do their best to accommodate each participant.

EAST PORTLAND COMMUNITY CENTER

The East Portland Community Center educational preschool program is based on the philosophy that children develop & grow at their own rate. In order to grow & develop their senses a child must “play” by exploring & manipulating their environment. To enhance this experience, the classroom is set up in learning centers that enable children to explore different areas of development such as fine motor, socialization, pre-math, pre-reading & listening skills.

Portland Parks & Recreation  East Portland (E)xtras = EPX The East Portland (E)xtras (or EPX for short) includes classes for youth as young as 6 months up through 12 years, with classes that are “matched” on the same day for the convenience of taking two or more classes during one visit, as well as classes at similar times for different age groups. Also intended as a “reward” for our frequent participants. Look for the EPX next to the class listings in this brochure, or pick up an EPX flyer at the community center for eligible classes. And the incentive? Every time you register for more than one EPX class during the same transaction, you’ll save $4 per class.

Dance-Discover the Magic, 4-6 yrs., Dance With Me, 4-6yrs. or Dance & Movements of Nature, 4-6yrs., offers the chance to try several forms of creative movement & imagination. Each class & level explores new material & continues with exercises to establish the strengths & skills evident in posture, alignment, coordination & initiative. Portland Parks & Recreation Aikido Yoshokai Aikido, a form of Japanese Budo, is a path to self improvement based on martial art techniques. The goal of our study is not to defeat or control others, but to defeat and control our own egos. Students work as partners to study dynamic throws and powerful pins. We study harmony in Aikido so that we may learn to live in harmony with nature and the world. Clothing: Wear comfortable clothes. No jewelry. Uniforms required only for testing. Testing & Promotions: Testing fees start at $5, testing & promotion is not a requirement of the program. At the end of the phone intake it will be determined whether an assistant will be needed on the first day of the activity to provide on-site support at the age-appropriate class. A minimum of 10 business days (Monday-Friday) advance notice is required. The Inclusion Services staff will do their best to accommodate each participant.
