CELEBRATING 25 YEARS

/  Dear Friends,

/ KIRK GILES President

We are living in a historic moment in time. The realities of COVID-19 have been a significant disruption for all of us. Our team was in Edmonton, Alberta, getting ready to host one of our Men’s Conferences just as COVID started to become a significant issue in Canada. With less than 24 hours notice, we cancelled this event along with every other event scheduled through the rest of the spring months. COVID has also resulted in postponing many of our fall conferences this year to the spring of 2021. It created significant challenges to make resources available to churches, while travel limitations have made it very difficult to produce new episodes of This Is Me TV or provide mission trips for men. Did I mention that COVID is a significant disruption?

IN CONTROL IN CONTROL

GOD IS NOT SURPRISED BY THIS PANDEMIC,

AND HE IS STILL IN CONTROL

Here is what I know: God is not surprised by this pandemic, and He is still the leader of this ministry. Twenty-five years ago, the ministry of Promise Keepers Canada was born. The men who were part of the team to launch the ministry often describe that time as “drinking water from a fire hydrant.” Things were moving very quickly, and large numbers of men were gathering at men’s conferences. Along the way, we have faced many different disruptions as a ministry. In the late 1990s, we were almost bankrupt, but God had mercy and rescued us. Over the next few years, we could no longer afford conferences in arenas. Instead, we backed off and only did one conference a year in a church. But God used that disruption to prepare us for even greater impact with annual conferences established in most major regions of Canada. There have also been multiple disruptions in culture and the acceptance of the message of Jesus. Twenty-five years ago, marriage was defined as being between a man and a woman. Today, we are dealing with conversations about sexuality, gender, mental health, and so much more. Life has become far more complicated for the messages we need to communicate and for the men God has called us to serve.

MERCY MERCY

For every disruption we have faced, we have also experienced a God of mercy who breathes life into His ministry and mission. This is not a time to be afraid of the unknown, but it is a time to turn our eyes to Jesus and make sure we are keeping in step with His Spirit. Even with the cancellation of events in the final quarter of our fiscal year, God still allowed us to have more ministry connections with men than in any previous year in the history of the ministry! More men discovered the message of Jesus, and more men were equipped to follow Jesus! God gives the increase of changed lives; it is our job to get the message out.

WISDOM

WISDOM

In God’s wisdom, He started to prepare us three years ago for this day. We know God’s heart for men to follow Jesus has not changed. We see the need to reach more men and equip them for a life of purpose and godly impact is more significant than ever before. Twenty-five years ago, we would have never dreamed of the possibilities that exist for us to bring the message of Jesus to men as we can today. Before we knew a pandemic would force us to cancel all live events, God was already leading us to strengthen our ability to minister to men online. By doing this, we have not had to shut down our ministry programming; we had to shift the platform in which it was delivered.

IN GOD'S WISDOM

HE STARTED TO PREPARE US

GRATITUDE

GRATITUDE

As I look back at the last fiscal year, I have deep gratitude for what God has done. I am also excited about what He wants to do in the coming years as we launch Impactus. The disruption of COVID-19 has not ended God’s desire to see men following Jesus. He has prepared and provided for this very moment, and now it is time for us to follow Him into this new chapter.

OPPORTUNITY

OPPORTUNITY

Every disruption is an opportunity. It is an opportunity to step back and consider who God wants us to be. It is an opportunity to pay attention and see His faithfulness.

LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT

INVESTING IN LEADERS TO INVEST IN THE LIVES OF MEN. BLUEPRINT LEADERSHIP TRAINING

MEN'S MINISTRY LEADERSHIP TRAINING (formerly Blueprint) /  THIS YEAR WE will rebrand Blueprint Leadership Training to Men’s Ministry Leadership Training. As well, we will develop two levels of training:

The Three Elements of Successful Discipleship /  BLUEPRINT LEADERSHIP TRAINING equips local churches to build a framework for the discipleship of every man in their church. It moves ministry to men from random events to an intentional focus on shaping men to be like Jesus. With your help, we have trained over 470 churches since we first launched our Blueprint Leadership Training program.

101 – A basic introduction that helps leaders understand how to launch or re-launch their men’s ministry. Helping men develop their leadership team and how to communicate the heart and vision of men’s ministry, 101 sets the stage for taking 102. 102 – For men’s ministry leaders who have a leadership team in place, 102 teaches men the framework of how to practically develop men’s ministry in their church.

BIBLE COLLEGE AND SEMINARY /  OUR PARTNERSHIP CONTINUED with Heritage College & Seminary and Pathways (powered by Rocky Mountain College), to offer the Discipleship of Men course to students. Once again, the course was offered online, which became mandatory due to the shutdown, increasing accessibility across the country.

YOUR SUPPORT IS HELPING TO TRAIN THE NEXT GENERATION OF PASTORS.

ONLINE LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT /  THIS PAST YEAR we conducted several online Blueprint training sessions including an intensive five-session training with the leadership from The Salvation Army. We look forward to expanding our online Men’s Ministry Leadership training next year as part of our mission to develop leaders across Canada and beyond.

LEADERSHIP NETWORKS

COACHING

/  WE TOOK A significant step in our efforts to increase the number of men who are committed to the mission of helping other men follow Jesus. We are strongly committed to the multiplying effect of raising up leaders in communities nationwide who want to invest in the lives of men.

/  ONE OF THE key elements of a successful team is great coaching. This past year we developed coaching opportunities with 3 organizations and look forward to growing leadership coaching for local church volunteers and staff leading men’s ministry.

This past year, you have helped us establish: + 37 church networks and network leaders + 299 network churches + 10 provincial leaders Churches are working together to help each other reach men for Jesus. You have also helped us grow into the francophone community with the hiring of Bruno Savard, Directeur des relations communautaires. In the next year we will continue to develop networks with a goal of 55 networks and 375 total churches, committed to year-round discipleship of men.

LEADING MEN'S MINISTRY E-NEWS /  THE LEADING MEN'S Ministry eNews was developed to provide support and encouragement for men’s ministry leaders. Each issue includes articles and video tips designed to help leaders more effectively reach all men in their church.

LEADER TIPS /  THE BLUEPRINT LEADER video tip series provides ongoing encouragement and ideas for men’s ministry leaders in the local church. This valuable video resource will continue this coming year and will be rebranded as Men’s Ministry Leadership Tips.

Although our spring conferences were cancelled due to COVID-19, the fall conferences saw God move in powerful ways. Men were challenged to live a life of impact both now and for eternity.

LIVE STREAM EVENTS /  COVID-19 ACCELERATED OUR our strategy of becoming an online-focused ministry. Two new live stream events (on Facebook and YouTube), ministered to hundreds of men on the topics of mental health and marriage: The Walking Wounded with special guest Brett Ullman, and Dealing with a Stressful Marriage featuring Bill Farrell and Neil Josephson from FamilyLife Canada. Four new live stream events are planned for this coming year.

IMPACTUS NATIONAL CONFERENCES /  MEN IN OUR our culture are in trouble: Masculinity is in crisis mode - the signs are everywhere. Men are confused and wavering. The stats on fatherlessness are alarming and growing, and so is the sexual violence that seems to be prevalent everywhere. Men are discouraged, overwhelmed, and stressed out. Everyone is pointing out symptoms or pointing fingers. We want to point to something else. We want to point to a path forward and a godly vision for masculinity. Due to the unknown nature of COVID-19 and the restrictions we face in hosting conferences in the fall, we have moved all conferences to the spring of 2021.

EQUIP

TEACHING AND TRAINING MEN TO THINK DIFFERENTLY. WORKSHOPS /  WORKSHOPS PROVIDE FOCUSED training to develop the crucial areas of our lives. This past year over 1,200 men attended workshops before numerous spring workshops were cancelled due to the lockdown.

“Men need this type of ministry to help encourage them in the daily walk with

This coming year we have nearly 35 workshops scheduled that will be held either live or via Zoom:

+  Managing Your Anger +  Building Authentic Friendships +  Becoming a Better Dad +  Becoming a Better Husband +  Finding Success +  Finishing Well

+  God’s Vision for Men +  God’s Vision for Sex +  Spiritual Training +  The Value of Time +  Understanding Your Identity

Christ.” – event attendee “This is the best Saturday I have spent in recent history.” – event attendee

EQUIP VIDEO SERIES AND ONLINE FACEBOOK WORKSHOPS /  THIS PAST YEAR, 30 churches purchased the God's Vision For Men and Understanding Your Identity video workshops. The Becoming A Better Dad video workshop was about to be released as COVID-19 shut down churches across the country. We quickly pivoted in order to minister directly to men during this chaotic time, and created the online Facebook workshop. These closed groups were moderated by staff, and participants were free to watch the videos and interact on their own timeline. Ten Facebook workshops are scheduled for the coming year.

10 PROMISE KEEPERS CANADA 2019–2020 ANNUAL REPORT

TIME OUTS /  WE HELD OUR first Time Out event in Steinbach, Manitoba with 89 men attending. Time Out is a new, one-day live event that combines the workshop experience with fun activities and is customized by the local community. We were forced to cancel the two additional Time Out events scheduled for this past spring. We have ten Time Out events scheduled for this coming year.

RESOURCES /  LIVING A LIFE of impact is a lifelong journey that is lived one day at a time. We are committed to walking with men on this journey and providing valuable tools and resources that answer the many questions they have along the way. You helped us address numerous issues in the lives of men over the last year:

SEVEN MAGAZINE SEVEN magazine addressed the issues of abortion, marriage, and fathering daughters in our "Relating to Women" issue. We also spoke into the importance of work and work-life balance, the supernatural, sports and mental health. The Summer 2020 edition, Celebrating 25 Years, will be the final issue. We will reallocate these design and print resources to support our new digital direction to equip men for a life of purpose and godly impact.

PODCAST The podcast tackled a wide array of issues ranging from marriage, past sexual abuse, depression, forgiveness, as well as dealing with the reality of COVID-19, the lockdown, and its impact on men and their families. We heard powerful testimonies from John Vermilya, Mike Gordon, Patrick Morley and many more, that impacted over 12,000 men who listened to the podcast throughout the year.

DAILY DEVOTIONAL The Promise Keepers Canada daily devotional helped thousands of men stay connected to God's word every day, both online and through our daily email. We're committed to growing the number of men ministered to each day. "I want to start by saying a huge thank you to Promise Keepers Canada and the part you play in providing the daily men's devotional. It is a very important part of my daily routine to read it in the morning and pray afterward. I would have to say that your devotional has the single biggest impact on my walk with God." - Daily Devotional subscriber

VALENTINE’S DAY This past year over 14,000 people received the Valentine's booklet to help them strengthen their marriages.

FATHER’S DAY The Father's Day booklet was not delivered this past year due to the timing of churches being shut down across Canada. The booklet, 45 Ways to Live Out The Seasons of Fatherhood, has been designed and is ready to be promoted for Father's Day 2021. >>  Many of these resources are provided free to men that cannot afford them and men in prison or addiction recovery centres. Thank you for your help covering the cost of these ministry items. >>  You can find these and other resources at: impactus.org

CONNECT

PROVIDING OPPORTUNITIES FOR MEN TO CONNECT FOR MUTUAL SUPPORT, ENCOURAGEMENT AND ACCOUNTABILITY. SMALL GROUPS

ONLINE SMALL GROUPS

/  ONE OF THE best ways for men to support, encourage and sharpen one another is through small groups. However, some men do not have access to a group.

/  SEVERAL ONLINE SMALL groups were held this year. They were well attended and greatly appreciated by the men who participated. Men were ministered to in several areas of their lives, including:

The Impact conference study guide was very well received and will be developed once again for this year's Impactus conferences.

PRESSING INTO A NEW NAME / A NEW CALLING

2019–2020 ANNUAL REPORT PROMISE KEEPERS CANADA

13

BY KIRK GILES EVERY MAN WANTS HIS LIFE TO COUNT. I have never met a man who tells me he hopes to fail as a husband, father, worker, or any other number of responsibilities we have. We all want to know our lives have a clear purpose and have made a difference. But how do we get there on life’s journey? Some of us are working hard to be good men, but we do not know if what we are doing matters. Some of us are stuck because we have failed, or we are afraid to fail, so we never realize our full potential. Other men are content to not take life too seriously but end up leaving a trail of brokenness around them. There are men who always need control and power, and they also leave a trail of broken lives. We have our toys and our technology, but they never really

satisfy because we always need whatever else is new. We are at best overwhelmed and, at worst, confused about what it means to be a man. We have very few coaches to point us in the right direction. Twenty-five years ago, the mission of Promise Keepers Canada began. Our primary focus was to call men to gather at major men’s conferences and challenge them to live out the 7 Promises of a Promise Keeper. Many men will say that some of their most impactful spiritual moments have come at these events. God has been faithful to use these conferences to shape the lives of more men than we can possibly count. Three years ago, God began to show the leadership of Promise Keepers Canada something new.

14 PROMISE KEEPERS CANADA 2019–2020 ANNUAL REPORT

We have prayed and listened. We debated and prayed some more. As a ministry, we are convinced God is calling us to something new and more significant than we could have imagined 25 years ago. I wish I could bring you into the multiple stories where God confirmed this was the direction He wanted for men and for us. As a team, we are convinced God wants to multiply His mission for the hearts and lives of men, and it is time to go. We are excited to introduce you to Impactus. The meaning of this Latin word is to “press closely into something.” Jesus once told us, “I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.” (John 15:5) Do you see what Jesus is

Impactus is all about equipping men for a life of purpose and godly impact.

saying to us? If we want our lives to count, the only way is to press into our walk with Jesus and receive Him pressing His life into ours. Through Jesus, we get clarity of what it means to be a real man (Romans 8:29). He gives us everything we need for life and godliness (2 Peter 1:3). As men, if we want to know our lives have a clear purpose and have made an impact— we need to press into the things that matter most. We need to take hold of the eternal life that is ours (1 Timothy 6:12) and train ourselves for godliness (1 Timothy 4:7-8). It is time for a new generation of men to press in. Impactus is all about equipping men for a life of purpose and godly impact. It is a new name that will stand side by side with the name Promise Keepers Canada. But it

is so much more than a name. This new step as a ministry will reach and support more men than we have ever been able to before. We are no longer primarily about one large men’s conference in a year. Instead, we are standing with multiple generations of men like you who want to build a life that matters. We will continue the tradition of the Promise Keepers Canada men’s conferences, but Impactus will: + Reach generations of men who primarily learn and interact online. +  Open the doors to helping men around the world to know and follow Jesus. What does this all mean? Later this summer, you will see Impactus.org launched with incredible tools to equip you for a life of purpose and godly impact. We will be adding new content every day to coach you in different areas of life. When you go to promisekeepers.ca, it will automatically redirect you to Impactus.org. Bookmark this site and come back regularly — share it with other men to help equip them. In addition to the conferences and workshops we have come to know with Promise Keepers Canada, Impactus will provide online live events, workshops, and small groups for men. It will also continue to feature new videos, podcasts, and more! We will begin to use the Impactus name instead of Promise Keepers Canada for many resources that can be used online and beyond the borders of Canada. In short, we have been limited in how we can serve men

globally, but we have heard many people in other countries ask us for help. Now, we will be able to keep serving the men of Canada as our home but be prepared to partner with other countries to help men walk with Jesus. The Promise Keepers Canada conferences this year are scheduled to use the theme name of Impactus. The journey of these events will help you understand more of the heart and vision behind the name. Bring some men with you. I know for some of you who may be long-time supporters or friends of the ministry, it may feel like a loss to not be focused entirely on the name Promise Keepers. This is something I can personally relate to. I have invested my life in the ministry of Promise Keepers Canada for twenty-four years. I know what it feels like to be impacted by something in such a profound way and to feel like there is a radical change happening. Let me say two things God has taught me in this journey. First, this is not the end of Promise Keepers Canada — it is the next chapter. Second, this has never been about Promise Keepers Canada. From day one, this mission has always been about Jesus. A name is a means to an end of accomplishing His mission. We are living in very uncertain days, but we have never been more confident that God wants to help more men have a life of purpose and godly impact. Let’s press in together to God’s vision for being a man.
