About this extract

t sa short time, this extract will take you For

straight into this exciting story. This will give you a very good impression of this unique and awesome book. Let’s jump into the adventure! Enjoy, have fun … be part of it!

#7 Seeing things differently Once they arrive at the harbour, they can already see a group of people standing by the derelict skate park next to the crane in the distance. They see a hockey ball flying up repeatedly from the depths of the skate pit and the crowd claps and whistles in delight.

“Oh dear,” Lena hesitates, “it’s not going to be just us today.” Carefully the friends squeeze their way through the spectators. “Nah, it’s fine,” Lars waves his hand, “there’s not that many.” Max suddenly pushes his way forward: “Move, let me through, quick!” 11

Surprised, the other two make room for him to pass. When he starts speaking in an exaggeratedly loud voice again, like he did earlier that morning, they work out what’s going on. Leo and his friends are sitting on seriously expensive red bikes a few metres away from them, looking puzzled. “Hey, Rooohooon, we’re here,” Max shouts out loudly into the pit. Proudly he explains in Leo’s direction: “Those are our friends. The ‘hockey bros’. They are REALLY cool!” He sits down quickly on the edge, together with Lena and Lars. Then the three of them carefully slide down to join the three older boys with their sticks.

12

“There you are. Come over and join us, quick,” Dave calls. “Do you know those boys up there?” Max waves his comment aside. “Oh, those are just the show-offs from our school. They have no skills, but they are constantly boasting about their expensive stuff.” Dave gets it. “That’s what I thought. Well, let’s show them that it’s not about what you WEAR but what you DO.” He winks at the three of them and together they look over towards Bob. He’s playing ‘Hockey Zero Gravity’, making the ball jump from left to right up in the air, just like they do on the ground, but in the air. Ron is kneeling down below and filming him. The crowd above them is cheering and the HockeyKids are impressed as well. Bob suddenly calls out “And now your turn” to Max and plays the ball over directly onto his stick. Surprised, Max manages to catch it safely and lets it hop up and down on the flat side several times. Then he focuses and dares to try a few of the ‘On the Edge’ that they learned the day before.
