Publisher’s Notes A Time For Thanks.

While this year has been rough and rocky, it is still the time of year that the temperatures dip a bit, and we reflect and give thanks. At METRO, we are grateful for all the support from our advertisers and readers. The next issue marks a mile stone for us, as we begin the 20th year of publishing Tampa Bay METRO. Now, we think that is something to celebrate! As most of you are aware, October is breast cancer and domestic violence awareness month. METRO is a proud supporter of both of these causes. In our women’s health feature, writer Mary Lou Janson offers suggestions from two local physicians to take care of women’s heath through your 30s, 40s and 50s. It is never to late to start to take care of your most important asset — your health. We’ve partnered with Jessica Rivelli, Founder of Working Women of Tampa Bay to highlight some pretty incredible local women in our special section — Inspiring Women in Business. From lawyers to entrepreneurs and every profession in between, take a look at these talented professionals and how they make a difference throughout the community. In At Home, we have the pleasure of featuring a non-traditional home, a Hatteras Trawler that is home to Shaun and Shona Carcary. Over four years ago, the Tampa couple simplified their life and decided to embrace change to live on the boat. Shauna says, “The sunsets, the dolphins, the birdlife, the way of life and how happy our grandkids are here, the more we love it. It is not quantity, it’s quality.” Discover how to transform a dark, heavy mediterranean interior to a lighter, brighter living space in METROHome Tour. Crespo Design Group was tasked with lightening the home and creating a fun place for the family to play with a newly created game room. While the hospitality industry has been shaken, we are delighted that recovery is on the horizon. In Foodie, we feature Oak & Ola located at Armature Works. For a getaway, we were able to travel to Key West with a wonderful stay at the Ocean Key Resort & Spa. Enjoy,

Every spring, the Firestone Grand Prix of St Petersburg brings blazingly fast cars, roaring engines and exciting racing to the Tampa Bay Area. Due to the pandemic, the race was rescheduled for October 23-25, but that didn’t stop one INDY team from making a huge impact for Plant-city resident and US-Army veteran Karl Newman back in March 2020. Newman was presented with an Chevrolet HHR by NTT INDYCAR series team Arrow McLaren SP, and their corporate partner Vuse Vapor with the help of Tampa-based charity Wheels of Success. Newman, a AAA road service technician who spends his days on the highways of the Tampa area rescuing stranded drivers, had found himself and his family stranded without a vehicle. “It’s been tough,” Newman admitted. “I was taking the bus or Uber. It can get expensive. This is a big change for my family, that’s for sure.” In addition to trips to the grocery and work, Karl spent nearly $100 each week taking his son to Tampa for leukemia treatment appointments. Karl had applied to Tampa-based charity Wheels of Success. Wheels of

Success Founder Susan Jacobs facilitated the presentation. “We knew we wanted to do something meaningful in our first year as an IndyCar team partner,” said Natasha Webster, spokesperson for Vuse Vapor. “Hearing Karl’s story, we knew: We have to do this. I’m also a veteran and understand the sacrifices he’s made. We’re proud to get Karl his new wheels and get him and his family back on track.” “Arrow McLaren SP is a team committed to doing the right things the right way,” said Sam Schmidt, AMSP Team Owner. “Even with the race cancellation, we wanted to show Karl, the INDYCAR paddock and all of Tampa Bay that racing is part of their community. It took a partnership of Wheels of Success, Vuse Vapor and our team to make this happen. It was a great day.”

The Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg will be held October 23-25, 2020. For tickets and information, visit gpstpete.com.

Telling Authentic Stories Through His Craft Meet Fashion Designer Bibhu Mohapatra

Fashion Designer Bibhu Mohapatra

It’s time to celebrate and the Tampa Museum of Art is continuing its centennial celebration with the 10th annual CITY. Rescheduled due to COVID-19, the new date will be Saturday, Jan. 9, 2021 at Tampa Museum of Art and feature a runway show with a curated collection of 10 years of Bibhu Mohapatra. Through a socially distanced, of course, interview with fashion designer Biphu Mophapatra, METRO had the opportunity to learn what inspires him and what every woman must have in her closet. METRO: Why is it meaningful to create a fashion event at the Museum? Biphu: Tampa Museum of Art is a pioneering institution that has always promoted culture and art. It provides an incredible platform for artists to connect with the audience. Besides the collections at the museum, I love the very structure of the museum and all its indoor and

outdoor spaces. It is an honor for me to show my collection there. M: Why is the relationship between art and fashion critical? B: I believe fashion cannot exist without art. You need art to create fashion and tell the story or express a point of view. Fashion has the potential of turning in to art, if it contains that timelessness quality. M: What inspires your designs? B: I am inspired by people, places and my travels. I love the streets of New York City and the people I have met in my 22 years of living there. I also love to explore new places, cultures and crafts. But above all, it is the people, their heritage and their stories that drive me and inspire me. Fashion is a bi-product of my inspirational process that allows me to tell authentic stories through my craft. M: Do you have a muse?

B: Someone who is well travelled, someone who has a passion that she lives for. She also loves beautifully crafted clothes. My muse is strong, confident and courageous. Women in my life are my muses. M: What is your favorite fashion era? And legendary fashion icon? B: The 1930s Europe and 17th century India; Marchesa Luisa Casati M: One fool proof fashion item? B: A perfect date dress! A dress that is perfectly transitional that can take you from your office to a dinner. A piece of clothing that is nicer than a day work dress, and less fancy than a full on cocktail dress. M: What would you be, if not a designer? B: An architect. I love designing spaces, they are like clothes, but we live in them.

Meet the Dream Team Behind the Runway The Tampa Museum of Art will transform into an energetic runway filled with fashions by internationally renowned designer Bibhu Mohapatra for CITY: Fashion + Art + Culture. This event’s vision would not be possible without the tireless efforts of event co-chairs Enrique Crespo and Allison Beard Luzier. For this event, Enrique and Allison are creating a first-of-its-kind evening for TMA combining in-person and virtual components to allow all guests to enjoy a fun evening of fashion, art, and culture. Enrique Crespo, a Principal Interior Designer at the Crespo Design Group currently serves on the Tampa Museum of Art’s Board of Trustees. Unconventional ideas and distinctive style are what define Enrique as one of the top interior design professionals in the area. “Art education programs should be accessible to all members of our community, and I am particularly excited to be able to bring art and design together to help raise funds for this purpose,” said Crespo. Allison Beard Luzier, a Senior Vice President at Bank of America, grew up attending the Tampa Museum of Art — her parents were early and continuous supports of TMA’s programming. A TMA Board of Trustees alumna herself, Allison avidly supports local charities and philanthropic projects, and has served on numerous boards and committees around the bay.

The award winning artists Mary Rose Holmes, Violetta Chandler and Helen Tilston are now the feature of two documentaries that have shed light on preserving the charm and character of the iconic cottages in Indian Rocks Beach (IRB). ”Saving Paradise: Artists with a Cause” is the vision of Emmy Award documentary film makers, Lynn Marvin Dingfelder and Larry Wiezycki filmed over a period of one year at Indian Rocks Beach and also Provence, France which is the birthplace of Impressionism. This documentary received “People’s

Choice Award” at Tampa Film Festival in 2019 and recently at the St. Petersburg’s 2020 Sunscreen Film Festival, the film was was awarded “Best Florida Film.” “It is so rewarding to have a good news story to share during these difficult times, we are beyond enthused,” said Helen Tilston. New American Cuisine Oak & Ola at Armature Works | By Ronda M. Parag

hether enjoying the views from the terrace with a craft cocktail or dining inside the brick and industrial space, Oak & Ola offers a contemporary atmosphere with a delectable menu. The kitchen is under the direction of Executive Chef & Owner Anne Kearney, a James Beard Foundation winner for “Southeast Regional Best Chef,” and her motto “Food of Love.” The restaurant ownership also includes John Cooper, Trudy Cooper, Chris Arreola (co-owners of On Swann), and Andy Ganger, previously with Bonefish Grill. Since reopening after pandemic, the restaurant is offering a limited menu that updates with weekly specials. The menu contains some of the most popular dishes since their opening in March 2019. Exploring flavors and experiences are at the root of the restaurant’s mission to

bring culinary excellence in dishes placed before guests. A great starter to share at the table is a Charcutiere board with house made sobrasada, prosciutto di parma, toscano salami, agrodolce, jamison b ciabatta croutons and the European Cheese Board with a selection of hard and soft cheeses. The Fire-Roasted Artichokes Hearts are delicious when dipped in the lemon-tarragon sauce. A selection of four, fresh Fire Roasted Pizzas currently offered include the classic Margarita, Spinach Artichoke, Mushroom Truffle and OO with fresh mozzarella, crushed Italian tomatoes, prosciutto, arugula and grated parmigiano-reggiano. Perhaps one of the best dishes on the menu is the Spanish Fire Roasted Octopus served with “Boozy Pig” chorizo, white beans, kale, charred red

onion and finished with a hazelnut vinaigrette. The octopus was extremely tender and flavorful. For a delicious and meaty meal, the Onglet — a hanger steak served with roasted red beets, wilted pea shoots with cabernet sauvignon shallot vinaigrette and blue cheese crumbles was tender and delicious. A hearty NY Strip Steak with balsamic pearl onions, roasted garlic yukons and beurre montpelier was cooked to perfection. The Pork Milanese is certainly large enough to share and served pan-fried topped with arugula, roasted red peppers, capers and lemon. For those with a sweet tooth, finish with the delicious English Toffee Pudding Cake topped with a buttery toffee sauce. Curbside pickup is available for lunch or dinner to go, and add on your favorite craft cocktail, beer or wine too. Reservations are recommended. M

METROGuide Getaway

Arrive by Land, Sea or Air In the Heart of Key West — Ocean Key Resort & Spa| By Ronda M. Parag

W

e love everything about Key West. It holds many great memories for us. My husband of 33 years, Steve, proposed to me in Key West. For many years, we went annually for the sun, fun and escape. We even celebrated our son’s 21st birthday in Key West. Through the years, many things have changed, but one thing remains, Key West is an island paradise with no passport required. Key West was the last vacation that we took in March before the shutdown and pandemic, and it was the first trip for us now that things have reopened. When we went in September, the bars had just opened that week, and social distancing and masks were being highly encouraged. Since then, Florida has entered phase three of the reopening, and things are much more relaxed. As luck would have it, several friends were going to be down in Key West at the same time, and we traveled by air, land and sea to reach the southern most point in the continental U.S. We stayed at the sophisticated

and luxurious Ocean Key Resort & Spa located at the end of Duval Street, nestled between Key West Harbor and Mallory Square. The resort truly is a hub of activity with the terraces overlooking the Atlantic and Gulf of Mexico and offering up those nightly, stunning sunsets. Each night in Key West, the sunset celebration is held at Mallory Square and we didn’t even have to leave our balcony for the panoramic sunset view. The Noble House Ocean Key Resort has 100 deluxe rooms furnished in a tropical décor with hand-painted armoires and island-style art. The suites feature a separate living area with sofa bed, jacuzzi tub and shower and balconies to relax and soak in the sun. We opted for breakfast each morning at the resort’s restaurant — Hot Tin Roof, named for one of Tennessee William’s (a past resident of Key West) famous plays. The morning views, of the turquoise waters and passing boats, was a warm welcome to the day. The menu serves up several tasty Benedict’s from the signature Noble Benedict made with crab cake,

english muffin, key lime hollandaise topped with poached eggs to the Corned Beef Benedict – swiss cheese, sauerkraut, english muffin, hollandaise. I really enjoyed the Poached Egg & Avocado whole grain toast, arugula, pickled onion, flake salt and a glass of fresh squeezed juice. Dinner was fantastic with fresh seafood including a Whole Fish Snapper and a Duo of Key West Shrimp and Scallop. We also enjoyed the fresh Burrata and Tomato salad. A nice finish was a slice of the delicious, homemade Key Lime Pie. To completely relax, I recommend a massage at SpaTerre that offers a menu with treatments from a romantic couples massage to a signature Key Lime Margarita Signature pedicure. Upon leaving, I felt so relaxed and was ready to spend the day lounging at the gorgeous, oceanfront pool. In these uncertain times, it is time for an escape and I can think of no better place than Key West and spending a few nights at the Ocean Key Resort and Spa. They are ready to greet you with great service and a glass of their famous rum punch. M

he current pandemic has certainly changed the way we live, work and play. It was once a luxury to have a space dedicated to a home office, but now, since so many of us are working from home, it is almost a necessity. Tampa and Miami based McKinley Rose Interiors showcases three recently designed office spaces where you can work in style. “An incredible amount of organization and planning goes into each and everyone of our projects,” said Lisa Barnes, Design Associate and Project Manager. “No two projects are ever the same.” Office Space 1: The den/home office décor is art deco meets mid-century modern and serves as office and guest space with a sofa bed. The room is complete with a mid-century writing desk, art deco chandelier and abstract art, along with a modern cowhide rug. Office Space 2: From the stunning circular brushed nickel and glass chandelier to the striking blue and white rug, this home office embodies a vibrant décor, while maintaining sophistication. The centerpiece is the French art deco desk with a fluted overlay and dramatic curved metal legs, along with the electrifying wall art. Office Space 3: The south Tampa elegant home office features custom wood grained built-in cabinets, glass tile backsplash and transitional furnishings. The upholstered furnishings are draped with high end textile tone on tone fabrics. “We use a two-step design process that creates a foundation for the final look,” said Kristen McKinlay, Owner/ Designer. “The end result exudes class, quality and color.” M

he desire for an open floor plan and space to entertain led the client to Bayshore Custom Homes to create their dream kitchen. The client presented many inspirational pictures and by using her knowledge of construction and design, Senior Designer Shannon Mathews created the ideal space for her client. “They wanted a gourmet/chef style kitchen, homework stations for the children and work spaces and areas to entertain for the adults,” said Shannon Mathews. “They wanted a kitchen that stood the test of time, but was also functional and classic. They wanted key focal points, but ones that did not compete with each other, but complemented each other. They needed

ample cabinet storage, a large pantry and gourmet appliances.” The overall design included neutrals of white and gray color tones with just a pop of color on the kitchen backsplash. “This way the kitchen backsplash became more of the artistic focal point,” said Matthews. “Additional design elements such as high-end gourmet kitchen appliances, quartz countertops, custom cabinets, custom glass backsplash tile, furniture style elements to some of the cabinets all add a richness and character to the kitchen.” Extra cabinets hung all the way to the ceiling add maximize storage for the clients cooking and entertaining supplies. Glass elements on the cabinet fronts allowed for lighting and display

vignettes. The kitchen space has two islands specifically designed where one island previously existed. One has an overhang where the children can do their homework and provide for extra bar seating. The second island (main island) with a built-in sink was designed for a prep/kitchen island only. “The hanging chandelier lighting added a touch of personality and glamour,” said Matthews. M

AT HOME

Living On The Sea By Ronda M. Parag | Photos by Alicia Johnson Photography

F

ollowing their hearts and dreams, Shaun and Shona Carcary created their dream home that might seem to some, unconventional. While homes come in many shapes and sizes, the Carcary’s home just so happens to float. Rather than wait for that perfect time to retire and plan their future, the seed was planted more than 23 years ago when they were visiting in Pass-a-Grille and spotted a Trawler. Shona said to Shaun, “That’s exactly the kind of boat I wish for one day.” Shona grew up in South Africa and has been happily married to Shaun for 35 years. In 1997, the couple moved their family of two girls, two dogs and a cat to Tampa. Together, they have built several successful family businesses including Realty Buy Design and Hey Vacay. After gifting their home on the bay, along with all the furnishings to their children, they followed their passion to live on the ocean. A small 500 sq. ft. condo that was already part of their retirement plans, allows them to continue to work part time with their children and grandchildren, while having a land base. “This freed us up to move around and still work part time from our boat or the condo,” said Shona. “Less is truly more...in fact it’s the secret to happiness.” Shaun named the boat Happy Wife and the tender Happy Life, and he let Shona choose the boat saying, “As long as we are together and on the water, I don’t care what we live in.” The couple transformed their home by doing all the work themselves with the exception of the granite installation and some engine work. The initial refurbishment took seven weeks with Shaun and Shona working 12 hour days.

“I like to say it has taken us seven weeks and 4 years, because we are continuously tweaking and doing maintenance checks on her,” said Shona. “On September 16, 2016, we had our first night on board and our first dinner too.” Every square inch of the vessel was re-done, besides the walls, to create the couples dream home. “The cabinets are all original to the boat – it had such great bones and the hull of a Hatteras is like a tank, so we knew we had a great vessel,” said Shona. “We fixed one engine, rebuilt our bed in the stateroom, redid the counter tops in kitchens and bathrooms, new appliances, tiled the wall and floors, installed new toilets. We redid all the canvases and repainted the boat from the exterior red to white. We made sure to keep as much of the woodwork as possible on the outside.” The couple wanted to keep the integrity and vintage aesthetic, while making their home on the water comfortable and and current. “I did not want to have the typical “boat interior” with fitted leather furniture and embroidered anchor pillows, but rather have it feel like a true home,” said Shona. “My design inspiration came from our own home which we owned in South Tampa. I love earthy, neutral colors and draws inspiration from nature.” The design elements include the use of stone, distressed wood, shells and wicker, along with touches of silver, gold and tin metals. “The use of whites and neutrals was my grown up style, and I absolutely love the peace that it brings,” adds Shona. When describing the design, Shona says she tried to bring an eclectic mix of modern, vintage and boho. She used durable fabrics and furniture like leather, wicker, sisal rugs that can withstand the elements. She used some wallpaper in her grandsons cabin with an octopus to provide an ocean feel, but wasn’t easily dated and suited other guests too. The master suite has plenty of storage allowing Shona to keep all her clothes, shoes and multitude of string bikinis.

Perhaps the most striking feature is the clawfoot bathtub that sits on the flybridge. It was one of Shona’s main requirements of living on the boat. “I need a regular bed and bathtub in order to live on a boat (tongue in cheek) when we started out on the vessel search,” recalls Shona. “When a friend jokingly suggested that the only space would be on a helm – I said to Shaun – ‘That’s it!’ We will put a clawfoot tub up on the helm and the rest is history.” The dining room table is a hollowed out tree stump. “We installed a shelf in it with pebbles, and that houses all of our little travel mementos from around the world,” said Shona. “Our tiny art wall in the hallway is also a favorite with little original artworks bought directly from artists all over the world.” “Everything we have around us, on our boat either means something to us or has a purpose,” said Shona. “From our travels, we have purchased functional items.” When not traveling the world, the couple is docked at the Westshore Marina and tends to the daily chores of life including going to the store, running or going to the gym, and working from the boat. When out on the water, Shona says, “I write, paint, read and exercise on board, and we also paddle board, snorkel and fish. The days tend to blend together and we don’t even know what day it is. We want a life well lived and that’s what we are doing right now!” M

Transitional Design With Industrial Flair By Ronda M. Parag | Photography by Susan Carnes

T

he desire to transform their dark, heavy and mediterranean influenced home interior led the homeowners of a mansion in Odessa to reach out to Crespo Design Group. A client for more than six years, the couple contacted Enrique Crespo and the team at Crespo Design Group to handle the task. “Our goal was to lighten the home,” said Enrique Crespo, Principal of Crespo Design Group. “The client was ready for a change and we created a clean, transitional, casual living space with an industrial flair.” The project involved an addition and renovated first floor. “We re-did the living and kitchen area by re-configuring the kitchen area, adding a game room and wine room,” said Crespo. “We began the project in December 2019 and due to pandemic there were delays in getting all the furnishings from the mills and manufactures that shut down due to the crisis.” The formal living room was transformed top to bottom by repainting all the walls and lightening the room. The previous color scheme was mustards, maroons and blacks. The fresh design incorporated creams, taupes and blues. “We transformed the fireplace mantle with a coat of white paint,” said Crespo. It was previously black.” The large mirror reflects light into the tranquil space and allows the baby grand piano to shine. A focal point of furniture are two Mr. Brown of London honeycomb wood side chairs with blue cushions. The addition of the game room allows plenty of family fun and entertaining with the billiard table, shuffle board and round card table that opens out to the pool area. The custom wood beams and circular chandelier bring definition to the ceiling. The flooring is a French White Oak with gray stain.

Attention is drawn to the bar area with a tan, cream and gray brick wall, along with the custom wood and pipe shelving, ideal to hold glassware and liquor bottles. The kitchen was re-designed to make the space more functional by moving the refrigerator and creating a breakfast nook. Along with four cane back chairs, a custom banquette allows seating for eight. The counter tops in the gourmet kitchen are white quartzite. “It gives the veining of marble and the durability of granite,” said Crespo. A chevron pattered barn door leads to the pantry. The new powder room has stamped cement tile, along with an antique mirror listello in the shower and a trough-style sink. The walk-in shower has an industrial antique brass shower head and hand sprayer that can be adjusted. Perhaps the most striking feature is the wine room, which can be seen from all angles. The 500 bottle wine storage is climate controlled with custom acrylic wine holders. There is even a built-in humidor. “From the flooring to the ceiling, we’ve created a whole new vibe throughout the home,” said Crespo. M

A WOMEN’S HEALTH THROUGH THE AGES By Mary Lou Janson

Ever wonder what your older self would say to a younger you about what you did, or didn’t, do to take care of your personal health over the decades? Would the senior you be shaking the finger of shame for following poor health practices or giving the more youthful you a thumbs up for being proactive and adhering to preventative measures?

W

hen it comes to managing women’s health through the ages, and stages, of their lives, attention needs to be paid and commitments made to maintain healthy bodies. Heredity certainly has a hand in how well we age, but lifestyle factors also impact our quality of later life. Maybe you never followed through on that vow to quit smoking. Or days spent sans sun block at the beach caused sun damage to your skin. Do you regularly consume fast foods and frozen meals packed with added sugars, fats and salt that can play havoc with cholesterol levels? Whether your are in your 30s, 40s, 50s or beyond, there is still time to take charge and make changes, according to experts. “It’s never too late to take the proper steps,” said Dr. Karolina Borodo, OB/GYN at St. Joseph’s Women’s Hospital in Tampa. “With each decade metabolisms naturally and genetically slow down. One way women can make sure their weight stays within a safe range is by monitoring their body mass index (BMI).” The U.S. Department on Health and Human Services reports that more than two in three women are overweight or obese. That excess weight can cause heart disease, diabetes and contribute to many cancers. “If your BMI is normal in your 40s and 50s, you will likely be set up for success,” Borodo added. Keeping a daily journal of what and when food is consumed, avoiding late night snacks and not skipping meals throughout the day before overburdening your metabolism by overeating at night are among her suggestions for keeping weight under control. “Set small goals for yourself or you will set yourself up for failure,” Borodo added. If normal eating routines and exercise regimens hit a roadblock when COVID-19 caused businesses to temporarily close, kept people home and disrupted daily schedules, it’s likely that weight gain, loss of sleep or increased stress levels occurred. “It’s important to be in a great space, both mentally and physically. A good diet and exercise can improve your mood and your metabolism,” said Dr. Alyssa Brown, Chief of Obstetrics and Gynecology for Tampa General Hospital and USF Health. ‘The ‘Quarantine 15’ (weight gain) was very real if you were unemployed, not working out and found your food options were limited because you were not leaving home and your ability to diet and exercise properly The ‘Red’ course at Streamsong probably lapsed.”

With the reopening of doctors offices and the ability to consult with medical professionals through virtual doctor visits via video chats, resources and support to overcome those challenges are once again readily available, she noted. For woman in their 30s, Brown finds much of their focus is on family planning, whether they are trying to get pregnant or postpone pregnancy. Screenings for cervical cancers and HPV, and avoiding diseases transmitted through sexual activity are also critical health care topics for that age group. In their 40s, women may be seeking relief regarding changes in their libido, problems related to pain with intercourse and the eventual on-set of menopause. “It’s also important to understand their family history and how it relates to breast cancer,” said Brown. Once women reach their 50s, it’s time to undergo screening for colon cancers, routine checks for diabetes, high blood pressure or high cholesterol and to measure and monitor bone density levels to determine if treatment for osteoporosis is needed. “Women in their 50s typically have questions about hormone replacement therapy. It’s important that they go to a reputable physician for that information because the data changes so frequently,” Brown stated.

Dr. Alyssa Brown

“Women in their 50s typically have questions about hormone replacement therapy. It’s important that they go to a reputable physician for that information because the data changes so frequently.”

In addition women should follow these basic guidelines: Go for foods made from whole grains, fresh produce, lean proteins like seafood and high fiber foods such as beans. Select foods that are low in saturated fats and opt for fresh foods in favor of those that are overly processed and high in trans fats. Exercise regularly to decrease stress levels, maintain muscle, diminish fat and boost the body’s immune system. CDC guidelines recommend adults engage in at least 150 minutes of moderate-intensity aerobic physical activity or 75 minutes of vigorous-intensity physical activity each week. For women, strength training and weight-bearing exercises are key to preventing osteoporosis. Maintain regular check ups, screenings and tests as advised by primary care physicians, OB-GYNs, dermatologists and any other specialists your primary care doctor may recommend. The overall goal is to prevent serious medical issues or minimize health threats through early detection. “It’s not easy to get back on track, but you want to find a way to be at, and remain at, your top health,” said Borodo. VALORIE BAUER Co-Founder & CEO Baby Scene Since 1983, events were her canvas and Valorie created art through their production. Her creativity was displayed through the elements of the events she created. Her passion for the arts led her to a new canvas which featured a palette of hand-painted pieces of accessories. Each piece was unique in design & as original as the “o” in her name. After experiencing the awe of seeing a sonogram of her granddaughter, Valorie changed canvases and opened a premier 4D Sonogram studio. As an artist, she wanted to design a space that was not only comfortable, but had an artistic flair; 90 days later, Baby Scene was born!
