Dalí & The Impressionists Salvador Dalí transcended art styles throughout his career. The Impressionists approach was embraced in his youth and allowed him to explore the gap between Impressionism and Surrealism. Explore for yourself, as The Dalí Museum showcases various pieces of Impressionist art from the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston alongside Dalí’s early works. Artists such as Claude Monet, Peirre-Auguste Renoir, Edourard Manet, Edgar Degas, Paul Gaugin, Paul Cézanne, Henri Matisse and more are on view through April 28, 2024. For many of the pieces on display, it will be the first time on view in Florida, providing a chance to appreciate these French Impressionist master pieces right here in Tampa Bay. “Art is a continuum of human response to the experience of

living, and no art is free from the influences of past artists or affection for them,” said Hank Hine, director of The Dalí. The similarities between the works of art Impressionism produced, and Dalí’s talent can be seen in a variety of the pieces on display. Sure to excite art enthusiasts of any level, and fun for the family as the Dalí aims to captivate through sensory rich showings of timeless exhibits. An interactive experience is offered as well within the Dalí & the Impressionists exhibit. Guests have the opportunity to allow AI to create an Impressionist selfie with the Museum’s “YOUR PORTRAIT” feature. This personalized lesson for guests shows the styles behind these works including textures, color and light often associated with the movement.

The Dalí Museum appreciates the efforts put forth by the Fine Arts Museum, Boston in this incredible exhibit as it truly compliments the vast collection of Dalí works at the world renowned museum. “We are profoundly grateful for the generosity of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston and its trustees,” said Hine. “The enthusiastic spirit of the director and MFA staff have enabled this exhibition. We look forward to sharing these iconic artists’ works with our community and witnessing the dialogue that will occur by presenting them with Dalí.” Dalí & the Impressionists: Monet, Degas, Renoir & More Through April 28, 2024 The Dalí Museum www.thedali.org

Contemporary Custom Davis Islands Waterfront Estate By Ronda M. Parag Interior Design: McKinlay Rose Interiors Photography: Danielle Bradley, Karen Wernert Studio

S

tep inside the recently completed custom home on Davis Islands, and you will feel an immediate sense of peace and tranquility. The home was built by Sable Construction, and the late architect and designer Thomas Everett Lamb. The homeowners hired McKinlay Rose Interiors to select all the materials and finishes for the interior. The three-story modern designed home has 10,000 square feet with five bedrooms, and four and a half bathrooms, rooftop deck, custom walk-in wine cellar, elevator and took over three years to complete. The design uses relaxed neutral color palette of creams, whites and grays, along with luxurious textures and pops of teal and gold. Interior designers Kristen McKinlay and Melanie Rose from McKinlay Rose Interiors took over the project management and completed the project. “It’s all about bringing together the clients style in a unique way to build a beautiful design,” says Melanie Rose. “In other words, it’s all about how you put it together.” The open-concept floor plan showcases the spacious feel and allows natural light to make each room feel brighter and more welcoming. The over-sized windows and glass front door creates a connection between the indoor and outdoor spaces. It is said that the heart of the home is the kitchen and any chef would be delighted to prepare meals in this spectacular space that takes center stage. From floor to ceiling, the kitchen area is functional yet showcases the elegance of the design and allows for ease of entertaining. The large expansive triple glass windows allow plenty of natural light to spill into the kitchen area.

The double chandeliers are a classic form where the graphic modern design showcases its simplicity. The six-light chandelier provides plenty of light, without dominating the space. The kitchen island is Cambria Quartz with a a beautiful beige countertop design. The Beaumont features dramatic veining and glamours gold sparkle. Seating features custom embossed crocodile superior leather barstools and are designed with antique gold nailheads. The sleek white cabinetry is accented with lucite acrylic and matte gold cabinet pulls. The appliances are commercial grade stainless steel, while the double refrigerator has custom panels that blends seamlessly with the cabinetry. A wine cooler will showcase some of your favorite bottles. A focal point of the floor plan is the walk-in wine room that greets guests and anchors the dining area. The rectangular table with over-sized high-back chairs seats eight. The buffet with its light oak finish and alligator textured fronts add visual interest and additional storage space. The guest bathroom Pompeii Quartz counter top is inspired by the beauty of natural stone. The Extra, Extra white quartz is the creation of a surface that reflects fresh natural complexion and compliments a modern lifestyle. The beauty, quality and effortless care is achieved when using the Pompeii Quartz. The shower is accented with a decorative Sequoia Polished Linear Mosaic. The white color enhances the space with the long lines of linear shaped glass. Straight and perfectly cut-to-size edges of the decorative insert creates continuity. The pool bathroom uses the Pompeii Quartz counter top, while the Bianco Carrara Thassos Parquet Marble Mosaic makes a timeless statement with the unique veining adding artistic flair and camouflages any wear and tear that may occur. The shower tile adds movement to the space with a glossy wave tile. Two sconces with plated polished chrome create the soft contemporary look with the white fabric shade.

The owner’s suite offers a soothing look with dark wood flooring and dark gray walls accented with with crisp, white molding. The focal point of the owner’s bathroom is a freestanding soaking tub with modern faucets in chrome. A chandelier adds a luxurious touch to the room. The room offer a place for hair and make-up with a built-in vanity area. The sconces on either side of the mirror have strands of cascading crystals from an antique silver wall mounted sconce. The double sinks with twin oval mirrors are lighted with the same sconces with the hanging crystals. The cabinets have Glacio knobs offering sleek and minimalist design almost blending crystal-clear access with the metallic mounted finishes for an ethereal look and feel. “We infused the very modern architecture with an elegant style to soften the mood,” says Kristen McKinlay.” Every material, lighting fixture and procured furnishing was done to compliment the outside beauty of the floor to ceiling windows overlooking the Davis Islands waterfront. A Ship For All Seasons Cruising New England and Canada Aboard MSC Meraviglia| By Ronda M. Parag

The MSC Meraviglia

I

t’s a great way to explore Canada and New England and see the sights of historic cities, scenic landscapes and changes of the season. We recently had the opportunity to board the MSC Meraviglia for an 11 day cruise through New England and Canada. It is the longest cruise we had ever been on, and at first we were concerned that it would be too long. But, let me tell you, when we were set to disembark, we were not ready to leave the ship. Our best advice is to definitely cruise with the MSC Yacht Club. It offers the personal service and upgrades that really provides that luxurious escape. It is really a ‘ship within a ship’ featuring butler service, along with a private restaurant, lounge and pool/spa area. The best perk of all is

38

being personally escorted on and off the ship for the excursions, and to dinner and the shows. Many of the crew have been with MSC for years, and we noticed lots of return guests were treated like family by the crew. MSC Meraviglia announced earlier in 2023 that they would be sailing in the Fall and Spring from NYC to Canada. MSC Meraviglia is now based in Brooklyn, New York and offers the Canada and New England cruise, as well as, to Bermuda, the Bahamas and Florida. The ship sails from New York City and offers the opportunity to explore the city either before or after the sail. We flew up the day before so we would have no issues should there be a flight delay. Other cities on the itinerary

include Newport, Rhode Island with the iconic mansions that were summer cottages for 6-8 weeks, and the spectacular site for the summer social scene. Boston with all the historic landmarks and famous Freedom Trail. Also, Portland offered the beauty of the Old Port District and of course, the world-famous lobster roll. I did an excursion aboard a touring lobster boat with a great guide. MSC Yacht Club Concierge assists in arranging multiple options to explore each city. While we did have a change of ports, due to a hurricane, we were able to see fall leaves in Corner Brook, Canada. We arrived on Canada’s Thanksgiving to the small town with a population of around 20,000 people. We found a local bar and chatted with the

owner, who decided to open to welcome the over 4,000 cruise passengers. If you ever get to Corner Brook be sure to stop in the West Gate Pub. In Charlottetown, Canada, the capital of Prince Edward Island, we walked about the city and visited St. Dunstan’s Basilica, and enjoyed a delicious Canadian lobster roll. We stepped back in time in Nova Scotia to the town of Louisbourg on Cape Breton Island to the Fortress of Louisbourg. The reconstructed city shows the life in the French colony between 1713 and 1758. For a history buff, this is a must visit National Historic Site. MSC Meraviglia was built in 2017 and is part of the fleet of 22 MSC vessels. MSC is the fastest growing and the world’s third largest cruise brand. The ship is 1,036 feet long and 213 feet tall

with 19 decks and a capacity of 5,700 guests. The Galleria Meraviglia is a promenade area lined with shops, restaurants and LED sky screen that offers a variety gorgeous scenes. Each night there was entertainment and dancing including a silent disco and other themed dance parties. The dining and bar options are numerous with 20 bars and 12 restaurants. The specialty restaurants are extra, but we enjoyed the Kaito Sushi and Teppanyaki. There is plenty of indoor and outdoor space, along with a waterpark. Due to our time of sailing the Himalayan Bridge was not operating. If you enjoy nightly shows and entertainment, there are seven shows available in the 985-seat Broadway Theatre and

Carousel Lounge. The quality and talent of the performers was fantastic. The MSC Aurea Spa offers a great way to relax and recharge with a variety of massages, body and facial treatments. For Yacht Club members, use of the thermal area in the spa is available daily. For other passengers the thermal area is only available with a booked spa treatment. For those that want to keep those cruise pounds off, there is a 6,000 square-foot gym with state-of-the-art equipment from Technogym™ that overlooks the main pool deck. Other fun actives include a Sportsplex facility that offers basketball, tennis, squash, volleyball, Pickle Ball, mini golf and five-a-side soccer. There is certainly something for everyone aboard MSC Cruises. M

tunning views of downtown Tampa and adjacent waterways appear at Beacon: Roof Top Lounge atop the JW Marriott Tampa Water Street. Perched 27 floors up, patrons have the luxury of finding a preferred craft cocktail and indulging in the creative culinary offerings. “Beacon represents the culmination of our commitment to providing extraordinary experiences for locals and visitors alike,” said Ron McAnaugh, General Manager at JW Marriott Tampa Water Street. This addition proves just that as it joins the properties other esteemed culinary outlets including Driftlight Steakhouse, Six and Turntable. A rooftop lounge of this caliber became necessary within the city’s modern trendsetting Water Street Tampa neighborhood. The style and excitement this new addition brings to

the local dining and bar scene is something truly special. The second highest public rooftop in Florida, curated in partnership with internationally renowned interior design firm AvroKO, the ambiance, a fusion of elegance and vibrant energy capture the spirit of Tampa. The lounge is open daily from 5 p.m. until late, and has several unique spaces. Intimate seating areas, an outdoor terrace and a signature bar all depict the beauty of Tampa Bay’s vivid sunsets. Relax and enjoy a variety of cocktails that are as bountiful as the views. The Cocktail program at JW Marriott Tampa Water Street is developed by Sean Noddin. Refreshing options such as the Zalmero consisting of Don Fulano reposado tequila, Galliano espresso liquor, lime, cinnamon and pineapple foam or The Rising Sun, a blend of Roku Japanese gin, sesame, yuzu, pineapple, orgeat,

and peychaud’s bitters. Each will liven the mood and elevate the senses. The culinary menu is designed for light bites. Divided into Tastes, Tartines, Tossed, Cheese and Desserts, the tastebuds are sure to be satisfied and yearning for more. Steamed Buns, a bite to savor as the pork belly, pickled daikon and carrots, hoisin vinaigrette and thai chili combine to enlighten through the various flavor profiles. The Pomme Pavé with its crispy potato base garnished with crème fraiche, chives, shaved truffle and caviar is an option for those seeking to cure that need for a starch. Dive into a Tartine, French for Toast, boasting a plethora of combinations such as the Fig and Pig, blending goat cheese, fig, chorizo and marcona almond or a lighter option being the Heritage Tomato, lemon buffalo ricotta paired with marinated tomatoes and avocado mousse. The culinary experience at Beacon aims to provide an endeavor of the senses presenting seasonal flavors and local ingredients. The “Tossed” section of the menu proves that these aren’t your standard salads. The Compressed Watermelon, a delicious partnership between marinated feta, heirloom tomato, cucumber and balsamic pearls. The other option is Apple and Burrata, which empowers the flavor combination of a honey crisp apple, prosciutto di parma and agrodolce. Mix and match any of the above with a cheese or charcuterie board and be well on the way to full on culinary immersion. Always save room for the decadent desserts available as the curators of this menu, Sous Chef Roy Bryant may of hit a home run with the menu, however Pastry Chef Natalia Meshalkina is just getting started. The Meyer Lemon Tiramisu, Halva Bar or Dulce Creme Caramel are the options truly allowing the finale to be thoughtfully chosen. M

Gown Guide

2024 Gown Guide Trends By Ronda M. Parag

H

ot off the runway from New York Bridal Fashion Week, we take a look at the emerging bridal 2024 trends from Paváne Couture Bridal owner Robin DeWitt-Wilson

who attended and visited with many of the top designers. Here are the top 5 trends observed at the New York Bridal Fashion Week ... 1. Hand Crafted Florals | This season took florals to a whole new level. The artistry used to create the embellishments were nothing short of amazing. The delicate fabrics used to build such a structure, whether big or small accents, took hours upon hours to create, as we learned. And it showed! Whether the dress displayed minimized flowering, to accent the gown, or large pieces intended to visually capture attention, all expressed intense attention to detail; bringing the bridal gown to a new level of artistry. 2. Capes, Shrugs, and Jackets | Traditionally, shoulder covers were functional. Although beautiful, they were often used to give the bride a more modest look, especially during the ceremony. Designers have taken the role of the “cover” and glorified them! These removable pieces are now the focal point of a bride’s ‘look’, whether with floral accents, lace, or beading. They’re fun, whimsical, elegant, and even sexy. Having fun with removable pieces can give a bride two looks in one. 3. Minis | It’s possible that the mini dresses that designers have feverishly created, stole the show! Mini bridal gowns, most often used during the reception, are everywhere. Designers created entire lines of minis in addition to their Fall 2024 releases. And it was so worth it! They’re brilliantly designed pieces that will make brides giddy with excitement. Designers managed to combine the desire for a ‘bridal’ look combined with a cocktail/night out piece, keeping the bride the center of attention. Beading, feathers, and short were the elements used to build these phenomenal pieces everyone will be talking about and looking for. 4. Detached Trains | Although removable trains are not a new concept, designers managed to wow the crowds in New York with creativity and a wow factor. The removable trains allow a bride to create two looks in one without the added expense of having to purchase a 2nd gown. This season really honed in on creating an extension of the dress for the ceremony, becoming a new but complimentary gown for the reception for drinks and dancing. The train creates a more regal, occasional feel. The designers brilliantly designed the trains to work in two ways: one, create a train that is an extension of the the gown so that removing it will be minimally noticeable but highly functional for the remainder of the evening, or two, the train is removed to create a different look altogether. 5. Corsets and Basque Bodices | Creeping in to NYBFW we noticed basque bodices along with more corset tops. Hello Baroque! Although many dresses have corsets built into their bodice, designers are embracing the beautiful and sultry look of the corset by exposing the boning, allowing the brides skin to peek through. This boning along with the basque design draws the eye to the bride’s tapered waist. Functionally for the bride, she feels secure and “held in” when wearing a basque or corset bodice. Visually, it’s feminine and romantic!

Pavilion XXXVII La Vie en Rose When: Saturday, November 4, 2023 Where: Tampa Museum of Art “La Vie en Rose” was the theme for Pavilion XXXVII that was designed and executed by the team at Anna Lucia Events. Pavilion XXXVII was held at the Tampa Museum of Art. The 2023 event was co-chaired by Enrique Crespo, owner of Crespo Design Group and Russell Rhodes, morning news anchor for Good Day Tampa Bay on FOX13. PNC Bank was once again the presenting sponsor. From the welcoming violin to the ballet dancers ushering guests to dinner, the artistic talent of the performers was showcased throughout the evening. The abundance of beautiful roses throughout the museum in delicate vases and stunning centerpieces offered pops of beauty and transformed the space.
