periods of time are juxtaposed to create new dialogues. Together, the works reveal the story of the Tampa Museum of Art. “It is such an honor to participate in the Museum’s 100th anniversary through the organization of the exhibition” said Joanna Robotham, Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art. “The permanent collection has provided me with a unique perspective on the history of the Tampa Museum of Art and the extraordinary individuals in our community who have helped build our Museum.” The exhibition explores the collection through four different themes:

“Building a Collection,” “Inspired By,” “Soil, Sea, and Sky,” and “Figure Forward.” Many pieces from the Greek and Roman antiquities are showcased depicting the “Building a Collection.” The other themes are showcased through various artists including Martin Fletcher, Rockwell Kent, Robert Rauschenberg, and Alma Thomas. Moving into contemporary art through portraiture and body is showcased in the theme “Figure Forward” and showcases works from 1800s to the present with photography by Berenice Abbott and Garry Winogrand; figurative sculpture created by Jacques Lipchitz and Pepe Mar; paintings by Louise Nevelson and Theo Wujcik and rare prints by Mary Cassatt and Marc Chagall. Currently, Tampa Museum of Art’s collection includes over 7,000 pieces including paintings, sculptures, photography, new media and more. New pieces are acquired annually. In celebration of the milestone anniversary, the Museum will publish a 200-page history book — “The Making of a Museum: 100 Years, 100 Works” — which is scheduled to be released in January 2020. The book highlights the museum’s story through a combination of interviews and works from the collection.

The Art of Drinking Champagne At Tampa Bay’s Top Three Champagne Bars By Ronda M. Parag

Whether you are looking for sophisticated day drinking combined with shopping or a night on the town, METRO has found three great local champagne bars to get the bubbly flowing.

Photo: Evolve & Co

Flûte & Dram Calling Connoisseurs of Champagne & Caviar Flûte & Dram in downtown St. Petersburg is a great scene, and a place to be seen. Opened in April 2018, with a focus on champagne and caviar, Flûte & Dram recently celebrated the Dram side in November 2019. Flûte refers to the classic champagne glass, and Dram is a Scottish derived word that refers to a shot of whisky. The name and concept was inspired by a champagne bar in New York City, but with a Florida flair. Flûte & Dram is a full bar and prominently displays one of the largest selection of champagnes and whiskeys in the Tampa Bay area. Seating is offered inside or out, while outside, there is plenty of great people watching activity along the sidewalk of Beach Drive. “The biggest draw is our extensive list of champagnes, caviars, whiskeys and cigars,” said James Middleton, Bar Manager. “We also offer Dom Pérignon and

Möet vintage champagnes by the glass.” The menu includes a selection of three champagne flights. The décor inside is dark and moody with a wall of turquoise-colored, plush booth seating. The kitchen serves up great accompaniments that pair well with a glass of bubbly. “Our best sellers are caviar, charcuterie, cheeseboards, tuna tartar and amazing deserts,” said Middleton. “The core of the menu stays the same, but we do often get in rare bottles of champagne, and whiskey, that only come in once a year, but then are gone forever.” Music was recently added to the mix at the bar, primarily jazz and blues musicians. With the friendly and knowledgeable staff, it’s a great place to spend a GNO or a romantic date night. “Come visit us and enjoy live music, seven nights a week,” said Middleton.

Bubbly Barchique Pop. Sip. Shop. and sparkling wines that can be flighted, ordered by the glass or even an entire bottle. “It’s a passion project for my husband and me,” said Danielle. “Within the boutique, you can sip bubbles, shop the racks and overall, we give guests an experience they can’t get anywhere else. Between our events, girls nights, connections with the community and more, we are keeping busy and branding a new concept for retail.” Enjoy Bubbly Hour from 4 p.m. - 7 p.m. with specially priced glasses and bottles.

It was the brain child of Danielle Evans and her husband Graham to combine a boutique shopping experience with their love for champagne. When the couple decided to relocate Danielle’s boutique and personal styling business from Hyde Park Village into Tampa’s booming Channel District, the hybrid boutique and champagne bar was born in 2018. Tampa’s first champagne bar, Bubbly Barchique is located inside Don Me Now, where guests are invited to pop, sip and shop. The menu has an array of champagne, cava, procecco

The Champagne Bar at Oxford Exchange Celebration & Connection When a small space opened up inside Oxford Exchange, Allison Adams, co-owner, along with brother Blake Casper, decided she wanted to do something fun, and the creation of a champagne bar seemed ideal. While Oxford Exchange does have a full liquor license, a full bar was not part of their DNA. “It’s not who we are,” said Adams. “We are a place for celebrating birthdays, weddings, baby showers, graduations and a champagne bar just made sense.” Oxford Exchange is a breakfast and lunch spot and by providing a special area to sip champagne, a unique moment, either before dining or while strolling through the curated shop, creates a memorable moment. While there are no stools at the bar, and limited seating, it was a way to create vibrancy to the retail space. The custom-made Italian chandelier and unique shell wall divider add beauty and create a luxe setting for sipping on champagne, sparkling wine

or speciality curated champagne cocktails. The focal point of the space is an antique bar from a French bakery that Adams found years ago in Atlanta. The custom drink menu was created by Rifle Paper Co., who also has a cocktail named after them called the Rifle Paper Co. Punch, which is a punch topped with Etolie Rosé Champagne. Choose from four champagnes, six sparkling wines, three rose wines by the glass or try the Flight of Bubbles, a trio of delights for the palette. “The Champagne Bar is another reason to celebrate, said Adams. “It’s a getaway from the everyday.” Printed on the bottom of the menu at Oxford Exchange: “Champagne is one of the elegant extras in life.” —Charles Dickens We couldn’t agree more!

Timeless Contemporary Grand Design with Open Water Views | By Ronda M. Parag

D

esigned to maximize its prime location, this contemporary home is a work of art that will take your breath away. The detail and the sophisticated use of materials including glass, stone, quartz and wood work together to create a modern, warm and redefined waterfront residence. The home has details that are subtle, yet make a bold statement. “The project took over five years to build, and the owner had such a discerning eye and wanted to make every aspect really unique and spectacular,” says designer Rob Bowen, principal of Rob Bowen Design Group. The home is contemporary, but not trendy. The curved walls and windows, custom wood cabinetry, floating staircase, custom electronics with video walls, lighting and the one-of-a-kind details give the home a sleek and singular design style. “The home is a lifestyle,”

says Bowen. “Whoever purchases the home will adapt to the home.” The home features five bedrooms, five en-suite baths and three half bathrooms, three levels of entertainment and a spectacular roof top. Each of the levels of the home really serve a purpose. “It’s really a phased lifestyle,” says Bowen. “The home flows so well, and its comfortable and intuitive.” An elevator transports from the wine cellar to the roof top. Upon entering the home, there is clear plexiglass in the flooring to showcase the magnificent wine cellar. The roof top comes complete with an outdoor kitchen including pizza oven, grill, paella maker, along with a full bar and two large screen televisions and plenty of seating. Fire bowls and a spa add additional ambience and enjoyment. Off one side of the master bedroom is a home gym and the other side has an

office space with second floor utility room. The custom kitchen boasts Sub-Zero Wolf and Meile appliances, walk in pantry and custom design breakfast bar with stunning water views. Gracious living spaces include a formal living room, dining room, theater room, full wet- bar and billiard room with fireplace. Adjacent to the home, there is also an available lot that was intended to be a garden. “In all my years of selling real estate, I’ve never seen a house built with such quality,” says Sophia Vasilaros. “The home is spectacular, and will take your breath away. It’s M totally an entertaining home.” Located in Pinellas County, this waterfront home is offered at $8,500,000 through Smith & Associates Real Estate. Choosing Private Education By Mary Lou Janson

Finding the right educational environment that encourages and enriches toddlers to teens can be formidable. Three Tampa families shared how they made the difficult choice of where to send their children to school.

The Bland Family

Tampa Preparatory School www.tampaprep.org

Bill and Dee Dee Bland loved New Orleans, but moved to Tampa after destruction caused by Hurricane Katrina complicated the couple’s first pregnancy, by making the medical facilities and professionals they relied on unavailable. Following in the footsteps of relatives already calling Florida home, the Blands moved to South Tampa in 2006, and are now raising Robby, 13, Elli, 11, and Caroline, nine. All three enrolled at Mitchell Elementary School where Caroline currently attends 4th grade. Public and private facilities were considered when it came time to determine where Robby would attend middle and high school. An open house at Tampa Prep, Robby’s experience shadowing an older student there, and the familiarity the youngsters had from participating in summer camp programs held on campus made Tampa Prep a family favorite. “We wanted Robby to attend a school where he could be

himself, thrive in an academic environment and where kindness was part of the faculty’s and administration’s priorities,” said Dee Dee. Within weeks of starting sixth grade, Robby’s newfound enthusiasm for school impacted the entire family. Elli, who also participated in choosing her post-Mitchell school, attends sixth grade at Tampa Prep. Caroline, who plays softball for Bayshore Little League, where Bill is a registrar and coach, already anticipates the opportunity to pitch for the private school’s team, when she takes classes there. “What I love about Tampa Prep is that it sets a cultural standard that everyone will be accepted and respected,” said Bill. “Robby’s ability to learn and focus is enhanced because he feels comfortable in that environment. We are happy we discovered Tampa Prep for our other children because it was a good fit for Robby.”

The Stallworth Family

St. Mary’s Episcopal Day School www.smeds.org

When Mark and Selena Stallworth visited private schools that seemed ideal for their firstborn son, Mason, the four-year-old not only accompanied them, but was expected to participate in the interviews. “The interview process was new to us. Normally, you interview for a job or for college, but not for kindergarten,” said Mark Stallworth, a partner with Smith & Stallworth PA. Upon arriving at St. Mary’s Episcopal Day School, Mason was reluctant to speak. “Kathleen (Lopez, director of admission) came out and greeted us, and saw that he was nervous,” said Selena Stallworth, a corporate attorney. “She was the only person to do this. She got down on his level, looked him in the eye and engaged him in conversation. I could see his face just light up and, when it was time to go, he did so confidently. He wasn’t nervous anymore.”

36

www.TampaBayMetro.com

It was a defining moment that helped make a major decision. “We were looking at a lot of different schools. But ultimately, it is the child who chooses. At St. Mary’s, Mason presented himself in his best light,” added Mark. Academic excellence, a strong spiritual foundation and an emphasis on intellectual and personal growth initially drew the family to St. Mary’s. Those features far outweighed the demanding commute from their Brandon home to the Westshore area school. After moving to Swann Estates, the family of five is much nearer to the school that all three of their children now attend. Mason, 9, is a fourth grader, Noah, 7, a second grader, and Grade, 4, is in pre-kindergarten. “The school, and its motto, Learn-Love-Lead, are a huge symbol of how they, and we, want to build character,” said Mark. “This is the place where a child can develop into a confident, compassionate and well-mannered individual.”

The Rich Family

St. John’s Episcopal Parish Day School www.stjohnseagles.org

Deciding where twins Rocco and Grace would study had Jeff and Candace Rich considering various options including the possibility of separate schools. First and foremost, the parents focused on schools with religious affiliations, a qualification that eliminated all public schools and disqualified several private ones. Today, the five-year-old brother and sister are enjoying pre-kindergarten at the same St. John’s Episcopal Parish Day School campus, but are assigned to different classrooms. “It has been an awesome and positive experience for them to be separated,” said Candace Rich. “I am glad the school recommended that to us. This way they can grow independently, but also enjoy talking to each other about their experiences.” “After meeting with the teachers, we were given examples of how they would challenge each child differently based on

their individual skill sets,” added Candace, an Assistant United States Attorney. “St. John’s offers a challenging curriculum that is highly personalized to the needs of the child. It was a good fit for both of them.” She and Jeff, a criminal defense attorney, live in Beach Park with the twins and their youngest son, two-year-old Gunner. Describing the school grounds as intimate, warm and welcoming, they appreciate how the scale of the campus structure allows for more personal interaction with the school’s staff. “I grew up in Tampa and have spent my whole life here,” said Candace. “My husband, who moved here after he graduated from law school, was raised in a Catholic school so the faith-based education is important to us. There is something intangible about St. John’s. It makes us feel good about dropping our children off every day.”

Paradise Found – Calling All Parrot Heads & Parakeets Margaritaville Hollywood Beach Resort| By Ronda M. Parag

f you are a Jimmy Buffet fan and love the beach life, the Margaritaville Hollywood Beach Resort provides the perfect escape without having to leave the mainland. Located an easy drive from the Tampa Bay area, the AAA Four Diamondrated Margaritaville Hollywood Beach Resort will have the entire family relaxed and ready for fun. From the family-friendly pools and casual dining options, the kids may never want to leave. Once you enter the colorful and casual lobby, there are quotes from Buffet’s song lyrics and art work throughout, and the stress of life melts away. Be sure to instagram a photo with the over-sized cobalt blue Flip Flop in the background. Another great lobby feature is the chandelier made with margarita glasses. The 17-story, 349 rooms are comfortably decorated using a tropical color palette of creams, beiges and blues. Many of the rooms offer views of the Atlantic ocean. Check the daily

schedule for fun activities including karaoke, live music, beach yoga, bike rides and more. Located across the street is the 5 o’clock Somewhere Bar & Grill offering delicious cocktails and casual bar food. Enjoy live music and a great view of the intracoastal. For an upscale dinner, be sure to dine at the JWB Prime Steak and Seafood. Named for the founder James William Buffet, JWB offers a fine dining experience with local seafood caught daily on the menu. The wine cellar offers great bottle selections and the chocolate torte for dessert pairs nicely with a bottle of red.

Unwind at the St. Somewhere Spa with a variety of massages including hot stone, deep tissue, Swedish or pamper yourself with face, nail or hair services. For additional fun, the kids might want to take a ride on the FlowRider® a surfing simulator, or try jet skis and paddle boarding that is available beachside. For all thing Buffet, be sure to stop in the boutique to take home a lasting memory. M 1111 N. New Contemporary Italian Dining Cipresso | By Ronda M. Parag

F

or lovers of Italian food there is a new hot spot inside the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Tampa. As part of the recently completed expansion, several new dining options opened including Cipresso. Contemporary in design, with a main dining area and a bar open to the casino, it is both romantic and festive. View the casino floor action perched at the bar, or enjoy a table inside the bar or the main dining area. For a small gathering, secure the private dining room that seats 16. Open for dinner, the menu includes a plentiful wine selection of 100 wines and crafted cocktails. Great cocktail choices include a Aperol Spritz or their take on a Mai Tai – the Fernet About It made with Fernet Branca, Monkey Rum Toasted Coconut, Fragola and a

Tropical Juice Blend. Be sure to try the house made Limencello that takes 30 days to make. The menu has a variety handmade pastas and pizzas. With a choice of seven pizzas, it might be hard to decide. The Carne Pizza is made with pizza dough fermented over two days topped with bacon, sausage, red onion and scallion. The Margherita is cheesy delicious and the Wild Mushroom tantalizes the taste buds. For pastas, choose from the Lasagne, a handmade spinach pasta layered with bolognese and béchamel cheeses, or the Sausage with orecchiette pasta, broccolini and ricotta. For a taste of the old-world, do not miss Nonna’s Meatballs – a serving of 3 extra-large meat balls served with ricotta cheese and grilled bread – a perfect starter to share or a meal all to yourself served with spaghetti pasta.

The Fried Calamari was lightly battered and served with pepperoncini, pesto aioli and pomodora sauce. For sharing, choose from a selection of meats and cheeses that are artfully presented. For a lighter meal or second course, salad choices include a Caesar, Panzanella, Caprese, or my favorite, Spinach with crisp spinach leaves, a warm pancetta vinaigrette and topped with a sunny-side-up egg. Delicious sides include Fried Cauliflower, Crispy Brussels Sprouts and more. Be sure to save room for dessert and enjoy the Tiramisu, the La Famiglia – a flight of three house made gelato, or my favorite, the Cannoli – a trio of delicious cannoli filled with house-made ricotta and do-it-yourself add ons including chocolate chips, pistachios and candied orange zest. Publisher’s Notes As we begin a new year and a new decade, Tampa Bay Weddings has decided to add a few more people to the guest list. Due to many request from readers looking for vendors and venues for charity and personal events, we made the decision to expanded from Tampa Bay Weddings to METRO Weddings + Events. METRO magazine, as many of you may know, is our flagship lifestyle magazine. Now, all our magazine brands will be under the METRO name. We will continue give our brides the very best wedding advice and access to the latest trends. We have been inspiring and introducing our brides to the very best vendors and venues in the region since 2008, and will continue as we move forward into the nouveau twenties. It’s engagement season and more than 40 percent of couples become engaged between November and February. If you have recently become engaged, congratulations! We hope you will be inspired, and find the magazine a great resource, as you begin planning the wedding of your dreams. In Photo by Andi Diamond Photography this issue, we have great fashion trends for both the bride and groom, along with amazing designs for cake and flower inspirations. The Gown Guide showcases some gorgeous dresses, where the bride will certainly take center stage in any of these stunning designs. We feature two Real Weddings and thank the couples for allowing us to showcase their day. Wishing happiness and love to Hannah and Dylan, who married at The Orlo and Rachel and Joe, who tied the knot at the historic Renaissance Vinoy Resort and Golf Club. We also a include a couple Inspiration shoots from the beautiful Covington Farm. New in this issue, we feature two charity events, Kids Beating Cancer Hats & Heroes Ball, with a elevated circus theme, and Tampa Museum of Art’s Pavilion XXXIV, and the vendors behind the scene that created these stunning events. Destination weddings are always a great option, if you love to travel, and have loved ones spread throughout the world. Consider the beautiful country of Ireland, where there are lots of options from castles to a courthouse. For a honeymoon, I suggest a cruise. We recently experienced the new Norwegian Encore with all its stunning amenities. Brand new and ready to set sail, the Norwegian Encore will create memories of a lifetime for newlyweds. Cheers,

Bridal Trends — It’s All About The Details By Ronda M. Parag

O

ne of the most important pieces of planning an event are what to wear, and the wedding day is no different. The style and design of the dress helps set the theme and design of the wedding and reception. The range of color of gowns also can impact your big day. The variety of whites, creams and colors will have brides blushing, even before they walk down the aisle. Whether you choose to go sleek and classic or texture and drama, we’ve found a few gowns that are right on trend. “We are seeing a ton of detail this season,” says Danielle DiMarte from Malindy Elene Bridal. “The runways were full of lace, beading, texture, patterns, and even feathers. It’s really all about having fun with your bridal look while making a statement.” Many girls have dreamed of the fairytale wedding with a gown made with ruffles, tiers and 3D appliqués. If you dare, choose from gowns with cut outs on the front, back and sides allowing skin to peek through. Other styles are perfect for an outside garden wedding or beach wedding. From strapless to sleeves and slim skirts to cascading skirts and trains, designers have options when it comes to selection. “While you are shopping for your dress be ready,” said DiMarte. “It can happen suddenly and with a dress that wasn’t even on your radar, but be in the moment and listen to your gut. Ask yourself the tough questions and say YES if you fall in love, that’s why you were shopping in the first place. It’s a special moment!” We think DiMarte has the best advice. “You can be as trendy or a subtle as you want to be in your gown choice, as long as it makes YOU happy,” said DiMarte. W+E

Destination Wedding

The Enchantment of Ireland By Ronda M. Parag

Photos: Eric Kelley

W

hen planning a destination wedding, it is important to think of a place with stunning landscape and friendly people. Ireland offers a variety of landscape from picturesque castles and country homes, to the secluded chapels and ancient ruins. Getting married in Ireland will create memories of a lifetime for you, and your guests. Did you always dream as a girl of getting married in a castle and wearing a princess wedding gown? Getting married in a castle in Ireland are stuff dreams are made of with romance abound. Secluded estates with beautiful lakes and scenery will make for stunning photos. Recommended are the luxurious five-star castles of Dromoland Castle in County Clare, Adar Manor in County Limerick, Ballynahinch Castle in Connemara and Ballygally Castle surrounded by the sea and mountains in County Antrim. Renting a private castle will allow complete privacy and exclusivity. Throughout the country there are castles

for every style of wedding whether you want intimate and private, or grandiose. The Cloghan Castle in County Galway offers views of mountain vistas and dense woodlands. Bellingham Castle in County Louth is ideal for small weddings located on 17 acres and less than one hour drive from Dublin with 19 luxurious bedrooms for guests. It is entirely up to you what type of wedding you decide to have. From rich and lavish to fun and quirky, Ireland offers lots of options. It can be as simple as a incorporating the Celtic hand-fasting ceremony (cords are wrapped around a couple’s hands to signify union) at an Early Christian round town, and then head to a local pub for a cozy reception. Exchange vows in Dublin City Hall or enjoy a romantic dinner at a restaurant or a luxury hotel in the heart of Dublin such as The Shelbourne, Autograph Collection Hotels. One consideration when planning a destination wedding, is to hire a local planner or work with hotels that offers planning and will

handle the details. Wherever you chose to get married, couples need to contact the HSE (www.hse.ie) to register. The HSE requires a minimum of three months notice, but 12 months is recommended. Couples can choose from a civil or secular ceremony in Ireland. Many couples choose to do the legal paperwork in their own country, and have a symbolic ceremony in Ireland. If you do choose to have a civil ceremony, you must meet the registrar in person five days prior to the wedding date. While planning a destination wedding, it is important to create unique and lasting memories by including local customs in the ceremony and receptions with toasts, blessings, attire, rings, and music. After the wedding, stay awhile and discover a beautiful country filled with diverse countryside, and warm and welcoming people. W+E For more information, visit www.ireland.com.

Honeymoon

Escape to the Seas on Norwegian’s Brand New Encore By Ronda M. Parag

A

fter all the stress and celebration of the wedding, it’s time to take off and relax on a honeymoon as a newly married couple. With various ports of call and routes scheduled, a cruise may just be the right place to escape. Aboard Norwegian’s brand new Encore, there are plenty of things to do, or choose to do nothing at all. For an elevated honeymoon experience, I suggest booking a

stateroom in The Haven by Norwegian. These staterooms are in a special section within the ship that are serviced by a private butler, offer separate dining room, private pool area, and other exclusive amenities. A private balcony will allow relaxation and enjoyment of the wide-open water views. Encore was built in 2019 and has occupancy of 3,998 with a crew of 1,735. A few of the highlights of the new ship include the Encore Speedway — a race

track on the top of the ship, Galaxy Pavilion — a virtual reality simulator and interactive video wall, Ocean Loops — a waterslide that hangs 159 feet above the ocean and 11 feet off the side, premiere entertainment of the Tony Award® winning show Kinky Boots, Laser Tag — open-air battle with fellow cruisers, and much more. Take a romantic stroll along The Waterfront – a quarter mile oceanfront promenade or pamper yourselves with a couples massage at the Mandara Spa that offers a full menu of over 50 treatments. Grab a book and settle in at the Observation Lounge that offers stunning 180-degree panoramic views, with a cocktail, of course. The dining options on board include five complimentary restaurants that offer delicious selections for breakfast, lunch and dinner. From buffet-style dining to sit-down dining rooms with modern and classic dishes, the food does not disappoint. For an romantic dinner, honeymooners might want to make a reservation at Onda by Scarpetta — the all new Italian culinary experience or try Cagney’s Steakhouse with limited waterfront seating. These are specialty dining options and there is an extra charge. There are plenty of options to enjoy nightly entertainment and cocktails including the A-list Bar, Atrium bar, Malting Whiskey Bar, Skyline Bar, Vibe Beach Club for adults only, and numerous other places to discover aboard ship including Social Comedy & Night Club and the Cavern Club paying a nightly tribute to the Beatles. Wine lovers will enjoy The Cellars – a Michael Mondavi Family Wine Bar with light bites or wine programing to improve your wine IQ. Whether you try all the activities on the ship or simple relax and recharge, Encore will deliver a romantic, fun and entertaining honeymoon for the memories of a lifetime. EVENT TRENDS

The Roaring ‘20s As we enter 2020, the concept of a roaring ’20s party will certainly lend itself as a theme for many social and charitable events. Travis Horn, President & CEO of Bull Horn Communications, Inc. recently hosted an “Indian Summer Ball” event inspired by the Cherokee Club, which was the first social club to be established in Tampa’s historic Ybor City neighborhood. The area is experiencing an economic renaissance, and Horn, who also Chairs the Ybor Chamber of Commerce, wanted to host an event that would be emblematic of that economic revival — a decadent gathering that would be an ode to the excess of the 1920s. The guests enjoyed delicacies such as Russian caviar and French champagne.

Pavilion XXXIV Far from Ordinary — It truly was Extraordinary When: Saturday, November 2, 2019 Where: Tampa Museum of Art Pavilion XXXIV is the premier fundraising gala for the Tampa Museum of Art. The concept was developed by Sarah Fairbairn with One Fine Day, after meeting with the event co-chairs Stella Thayer and Natalie & James Goodwin. The co-chairs talked of an immersive video art experience, but soon realized that might exceed the budget. The theme of the event grew from the museum’s exhibition — Ordinary/Extraordinary. The black-tie evening calls for a coordinated and spectacular theme each year. Fairbairn conceptualized a waterfall theme and then through audio visuals projecting a pattern onto the ground, to flow like a river and continuing the flow outside to the atrium with the rocks and river design. Through the vision of Ian Prosser and Botanica International Design & Décor Studio, a bridge was added to complete the water-themed vision. The bridge also served as a wonderful photo opportunity for guests. Through the use of linens and glassware, the water theme was carried to the outside dining space. Guests dined under the portico and enjoyed visual the projection of water on the exterior glass during the evenings live auction and entertainment. All proceeds raised support the Museum’s exhibition and education programs.

Kids Beating Cancer Hats & Heroes Ball 2019 When: Saturday, September 29, 2019 Where: Waldorf Astoria Orlando The Kids Beating Cancer 2019 Gala was based on “The Greatest Showman” and themed The Greatest Show. A highlight of the gala included music from “The Greatest Showman” and a special performance by Loren Allred, who performed the song “Never Enough.” The inspiration of the theme was to transport guests to an elevated circus experience where they would be entertained start to finish and tantalize all their senses. As guests arrived, they were entertained with acrobats, clowns and jugglers. Event planner Whitney Carillon envisioned a circus for adults, but where they were reminded of their favorite pastimes as a child. The red and gold décor was festive and sophisticated with glitz and glamour mixed in at the table settings. Numerous touch points included a Souvenir shop with custom items, a raffle featuring Tiffany & Co, and themed signature cocktails. Guests were dazzled by song and dance, as well as a circus performances by the Circus Arts Conservatory. The party went well into the night with entertainment by the Jordan Kahn Orchestra and DJ Jacob. The gala was a great success raising $2.285 million for Kids Beating Cancer and the wing at AdventHealth Orlando. For more information, visit www.kidsbeatingcancer.com.
