Celebrating Stories of Women at Tampa Museum of Art

The Tampa Museum of Art continues its celebration of the 100 year anniversary and also the100 years since the adoption of the 19th amendment to the U.S. Constitution that guarantees women’s right to vote. In celebration of this historic milestone, part of the Tampa Museum of Art’s centennial year exhibitions focuses on the achievements of women in the arts. Now on view at the Museum is HerStory: Stories of Ancient Heroines and Everyday Women. The exhibition sponsored by Fifth Third Bank explores women in the ancient world through the depictions of goddesses, heroines, mythological characters, and everyday women in the Museum’s collection of classical antiquities. From Aphrodite and Athena to Amazon Warriors to women of the everyday, the exhibition highlights objects that speak to the role of women in the

Compass Land & Title Hosts Flag Day Food Drive St. Pete’s downtown Central Avenue was the setting for a “Drive Through/Drop Off” food drive and celebration of Flag Day. As a benefit for the St. Petersburg Free Clinic, it was a huge success. Co-Sponsors Compass Land & Title, BB&T, YES-Homes Group of Keller Williams St Pete Realty, and Outback along with dozens of participants, donated non-perishable food, hygiene items, baby care items and cash donations. The St. Petersburg Free Clinic provides food, shelter, and health care to individuals and families in need. Working Women of Tampa Bay is celebrating reaching its goal for the Power of 100 Project. The fundraising campaign for the Working Women Foundation was designed to raise $10,000 annually for seed money for women start-ups. The project launched in September 2019 during Working Women’s 10th anniversary dinner. Jessica Rivelli, Founder of Working Women, encouraged 100 women who are apart of the WW tribe to donate $100 before the organization’s 11th year. “We are incredibly grateful for our generous members who jumped in to support women-owned businesses,” Rivelli shared. “We actually had more than 100 donate in just 9 months!”

One of the perks of donating to the Power of 100 Project is a chance to attend a Seed Money Pitch Lunch where the attendees choose the recipient of $1,000 to help them grow their business. Tampa Bay Heart Institute Cardiologist to help lead American Heart Association Tampa Bay cardiologist, Robert Sanchez, MD, was elected to the American Heart Association Southeast Board of Directors. While many resorts, restaurants and destinations have reopened across the country, many of you may feel more comfortable staying closer to home with a staycation. METRO has found three resorts that are an easy drive from Tampa and offer everything you need to relax and recharge without having to ever leave the property. Streamsong Resort Get Back to Nature — A Natural Choice for a Staycation While it might seems to some that Streamsong is in the middle of no where, it’s actually located just 60 miles east of Tampa. While off the beaten path, Streamsong Golf Resort and Spa offers an escape into nature and ideal for golf lovers with 54 holes of golf. While only the Black Course is currently open for golf, the Red and Blue courses will reopen in the fall, with a target date set for October 1, 2020. Nestled on 16,000 acres, the resort offers plenty of space to enjoy the fresh air in a natural setting from the topography of dunes, lakes and sand. The 216 room accommodations at the Lodge offer nice size rooms with large windows that over look the lake, with wildlife to entertain. If you must check those emails, or hop on social media, the resort offers complimentary wifi. For dining, the P2O5 restaurant is open in the main Lodge serving breakfast, lunch and dinner, as well as Bone Valley Tavern at the Streamsong Black clubhouse, offering good gastropub menu options. Currently, the spa remains closed. Throughout the resort, staff are required to wear masks. “Streamsong is perfect for downtime and a much needed getaway,” said Stephanie Prenatt, Owner and Lead Designer at FH Events, who recently stayed overnight for a site visit. “As soon as we pulled up we were greeted by a friendly valet and checked in. My mind went from 90 miles an hour to a breath of fresh air just looking at the views.” For those that don’t golf, chill poolside with a cocktail and enjoy lounging and soaking in the sun. During the pandemic, Clearwater Beach’s Opal Sands offers a bit of serenity in these crazy times. Architecturally designed on a curve, the 15-story, 230 room hotel provides each room with stunning beach views and private balconies. It’s a perfect place to sit back, read a book and listen to the soothing sounds of the waves. Upon entering the hotel area to park, the valets are friendly and all wearing masks. A ride up the escalator to the lobby requires all guests to wear masks in the public lobby spaces, elevators and inside restaurants, until seated. There is signage throughout the lobby as a reminder, as well as signs limiting the number of guests in the elevators to four, unless they are in your party. Currently, housekeeping service is limited to every three days. But, at check-in were were told if we needed anything at all to simply call housekeeping and make a request for extra towels or any needed amenities. The pool area and sun deck offer plenty of lounge chairs and socially distanced space. Children were enjoying splashing in the zero-entry pool. We enjoyed a delicious tropical Killer Colada, with a spiced rum floater of course, while relaxing in the sun. For a casual lunch or dinner the Tiki Bar and Sandbar have a nice selection of dishes on the menu. We had blackened fish tacos, smoked fish dip and an ahi topped salad that were all tasty and satisfying. On Sunday, we were in the mood for brunch, but Sea Guini’s stops serving breakfast at 11 am and it was nearly 11:30 am. “No problem,” said our server, Steven. He promptly brought over the breakfast menu where we ordered traditional eggs benedict and the most delicious breakfast panini with eggs, fontina cheese, arugula, ham and tomato on sourdough bread with roasted garlic aioli. here is no question that when guests some over, usually everyone ends up in the kitchen. Whether inside or out, the kitchen is where people like to gather with a cocktail and chat. Especially, in these trying times, having an outdoor space to entertain makes everyone feel a bit more comfortable. “We helped the client create beautiful outdoor living space for entertaining and everyday living. We also helped redecorate the common areas of the space,” said Lisa Gilmore, Owner of Lisa Gilmore Design. “From design to completion, the project took about six months.” When working with a designer, it is always important to connect with a common goal and vision. “The client was referred to us through a few people, we clicked on the style, and goals of the design, so it worked out wonderfully,” said Gilmore. The previous outdoor kitchen lacked style and function and needed a major update. “One of the main goals of the design was to incorporate the husband’s Big Green Egg,” said Gilmore. “We wanted it to feel like a whole part of the design and not just thrown in.” The use of different textures and materials were included to make it an ideal entertaining space. custom created by Olde World Cabinetry and allows for plenty of storage. “I really wanted to make this outdoor space feel like an extension of the interior,” said Gilmore. “Classy, elegant yet very approachable. Mixing different metals, stones and glass tile to add dimension of materiality used, was a big part in the design.” Lighting also played a big role in the design. “Using a beautiful chandelier that sparkled, just enough, really made the space special,” said Gilmore. “We created different seating areas for different parts of the day, and entertaining. Sweet little spots like the hanging swing area also make it interesting, and nice and cozy.” Gilmore says that she gets design inspiration from so many avenues. “Travel was a huge source of inspiration for me, but I would be lying if I didn’t admit my travel inspiration, well is feeling a bit dry lately, due to Covid-19,” said Gilmore. “I am, of course, influenced by other interior designers’ work and heavily influenced by fashion.”

Face bumps, are not always acne or rosacea. They can represent fibrous papules, or wart like conditions, can indicate higher risk for certain cancers of the gastrointestinal tract or the breast.
