Auf diese Weise leistet Niko auch einen Beitrag zur Ausbildung talentierter junger Köche und bietet ihnen eine Unterstützung, die er selbst zu Beginn seiner Karriere nicht genossen hat. Luckily, Niko himself has not been spoilt by success. He takes food critics very seriously and says: „As a high-level restaurant you can‘t please everyone, and actually you shouldn‘t even try. Because if you create avantgarde cuisine like ours, not everyone is able to understand you. Still, you have to accept your clients. Everyone of them, because

Habanos Festival Cuba Das älteste und teuerste Zigarrenfestival ist das „Habanos“-Festival in Kuba, welches dieses Jahr sein 20-jähriges Jubiläum feiern kann. Es startet jeweils unmittelbar nach dem „Procigar“-Festival und erlaubt damit sogar, dass innert zwei Wochen die beiden grössten Festivals besucht werden können, denn Direktflüge von der Dominikanischen Republik nach Havanna finden sich regelmässig. Kubas Hauptstadt ist denn auch der Ort der Abendevents – die Tagesausflüge, wie zum Beispiel in das weltbekannte Zigarrenanbau-gebiet Pinar del Rio, gehören ebenso zum Programm wie der Besuch der sehenswerten Altstadt von Havanna. Das Spezielle am „Habanos“-Festival ist jeweils, dass exklusiv dort die Präsentation einer Weltneuheit zelebriert wird, die nur vor Ort vorgekostet werden kann und erst Monate später auf dem Weltmarkt verfügbar sein wird. In diesem Jahr ist es die Marke „Cohiba“, welche die erste Reserva – die Cosecha 2014 – vorstellen wird. Als zweite Überraschung wird „Partagás“ eine Erweiterung ihrer Maduro-Linie mit zwei neuen Formaten vorstellen. Mit seinen – je nach Event – über 2’000 Gästen wird es allerdings für die Kubaner immer mehr zu einer logistischen Herausforderung, alle Gäste jeweils korrekt und pünktlich zu den jeweiligen Veranstaltungsorten zu transportieren. So ist es mir im Übrigen selber einmal passiert, dass unser offizieller Bus von Polizei und Sicherheitspersonal am Eintritt zu einer Tabakplantage gehindert und erst nach einer Stunde und unzähligen Verhandlungen und karibischen Diskussionen weitergelassen wurde. www.habanos.com Die Rückkehr ins Heimatland ist dann jeweils ein heftiger Einschnitt, denn die karibischen Temperaturen, die spannenden Gespräche und die vielen neu gewonnenen Zigarrenfreunde fehlen.
