The stories at the Portland Book Festival cross borders and build bridges; between countries, between people, between bodies, between ideologies. Your literary heroes will take the stage alongside exciting new voices. Only at a book festival could you experience all of this in a single day. We encourage you to explore the wide range of events, from marquee on-stage interviews to pop-up readings in the galleries of the Portland Art Museum. Don’t miss the book fair, where you can pick up festival authors’ books and discover local presses. HOW TO ATTEND THE PORTLAND BOOK FESTIVAL WHERE TO PICK UP PASSES
BOOK SIGNING AND POLICIES
Advance buyers can pick up passes at the Portland Art Museum on Thursday, November 8 from 11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. or Friday, November 9 from 11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m.-6:00 p.m. Festival day, pick up or purchase passes at the box office on SW Park Avenue in front of the Portland Art Museum before entering any festival venues.
Authors will sign books immediately following their onstage event unless otherwise noted. Books must be purchased from a Festival bookstore in order to be signed, with the exception of one pre-owned book per author.
HOW TO GET THERE Portland Book Festival attendees are encouraged to walk, bike, or take public transit to the Festival. There are plentiful bus stops near the festival grounds. The Museum/Festival does NOT have a dedicated parking lot, but lot and street parking are available throughout downtown Portland.
BEST PRACTICES FOR ONSTAGE EVENTS A Festival pass admits you to all Festival events. Entry to and seating at Festival events is available on a first-come, first-served basis, and standing in line does NOT guarantee entry to an event. Plan to arrive early to your desired events. Saving seats is not permitted. All rooms will be cleared between events. The schedule for the 2018 Festival has onstage events and pop-up readings starting every 15 minutes. If your desired event is at capacity, you can check out a different discussion, find a pop-up reading, explore the Portland Art Museum, or take a break at the food carts. YOUTH & FAMILY ACTIVITIES The Portland Book Festival celebrates book lovers of all ages! We offer lots of fun-filled family activities, including storytimes, panel discussions, pop-up readings, crafts, plus gift shopping and plenty of food vendors. Admission is FREE to attendees 17 and under (or with valid high school ID). STORYTIMES OHS Join us for a morning filled with kids’ storytimes at the Columbia Sportswear Company Stage at the Oregon Historical Society, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Emily Arrow will host storytimes and lead singalongs. PICTURE BOOK PANELS CRU Hear picture book authors discuss their work in the Crumpacker Library in the Portland Art Museum’s Mark Building, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. FAMILY-FRIENDLY ACTIVITIES In Oregon Historical Society’s pavilion, outside the Columbia Sportswear Company Stage, family-friendly activities will include crafts hosted by Child Aid, a Where’s Waldo scavenger hunt, and other family fun.

ABOUT LITERARY ARTS Founded in 1984, Literary Arts is a community-based nonprofit literary organization located in downtown Portland. Our mission is to engage readers, support writers, and inspire the next generation with great literature.
PROGRAMS OF LITERARY ARTS Portland Arts & Lectures brings the world’s most celebrated writers, artists, and thinkers to our community. In addition to events that are broadcast statewide on The Archive Project podcast and OPB radio show, the program connects readers and writers of all ages through classroom visits and workshops. Youth Programs inspires public high school students to write, publish, and perform their own creative writing. Writers in the Schools residencies bring working writers into classrooms. Students to the Schnitz gives young people access to great books and influential authors. The College Essay Mentoring Project pairs mentors with college applicants. And the annual Verselandia! poetry slam showcases high school spoken word artists. Oregon Book Awards & Fellowships supports, promotes, and celebrates Oregon’s writers and publishers. In addition to awards and fellowships for emerging and established writers, the program also offers writing classes and literary events at our downtown center and produces the Oregon Book Awards Author Tour, which connects writers and readers throughout the state.
Portland Book Festival brings writers and readers of all ages together to celebrate a shared passion for books. This daylong celebration features author events, readings, workshops, and an extensive book fair. Save the date: November 9, 2019.
