Horoscope

Taurus

April 20 - May 21 You are brooding emotion incarnate. One minute you’re up, the next you’re down, the next you’ve shot your favorite newscaster in the kneecaps, “just ‘cuz.”. You’re very earthy, which may mean that you don’t shower as often as most people. Or it may just mean that you like to roll around with your nose in clover and sigh. Taureans love happy movies where everyone is jolly and having fun, but they fight with waiters and get upset with billboards. They like to psychoanalyze their friends but have no real experience with life in general. Taureans mumble while describing philosophical concepts. The Taurus is a strange bird because he or she holds grudges about things that never actually happened. This may stem from the feelings of inadequacy resulting from being beaten out for first in line in the zodiac by Aries. That is the Taurean self-image, always second best. However, they are undoubtedly the best at feeling

like second best. All Taureans want to be God. Unfortunately, God is an Aries. You are generally tough to figure out because you answer every question with a question. Also, you won’t come out from under the bed. Most Taureans love conflict. If nothing is wrong, then that in itself is something wrong. Some especially like bar fights. If they can’t get into an actual bar fight, they will make up interesting stories about them which they can tell their friends right before they psychoanalyze them. If it weren’t for Bazooka Joe and The Family Circus, Taureans wouldn’t know what to do. You feel that you are going nowhere in life. You are probably right. Milwaukee is full of Taureans. Taureans are impatient and pushy. They are in a tremendous hurry to get to the nowhere that they intend to go to. They make little dioramas of their homes, complete with tiny effigies of the people they know, and act out scenarios of the way things would be if they were God.

Ramadan Article

By Deanna Othman What comes to mind when you hear the word “Ramadan”? Does your train of thought immediately lead to worship? Quran? Fasting? Taraweeh? Or do you instantly have images of mansef, maqlooba, knafa and katayif dancing in your head? We all know that fasting is a struggle, and abstaining from food and drink from dawn until dusk, especially during the hot, dreadfully long summer days, is certainly no effortless endeavor. Maintaining your composure, energy and productivity during a long work or school day, or while struggling to stay alert to take care of your young children and still have enough stamina to stay awake at night for prayer truly tests an individual’s spiritual and physical vigor.

need five appetizers, three types of salad, four entrees, and six desserts. And despite the best efforts of our hosts, of course, the unavoidable commentary ensues. The chicken was dry. The lamb was greasy. They only had katayif with nuts and I like cheese! Even the four-year-old who wasn’t fasting offers his culinary critique. But say we accept this glut of food as part of the season, or even our culture. But what simply cannot be forgiven or accepted is the waste of all of this food. How ironic is it to fast in sympathy with those less fortunate than us, and then throw 30 percent of our meal and our leftovers in the trash? It makes a complete mockery of everything Ramadan embodies. No one is saying you cannot enjoy your meals. Go ahead, eat what you like. But don’t allow your Ramadan center around food. Ramadan is about worship in all its forms. Food serves as an avenue of worship when you feed those in need. Feed your family and friends, while also taking time to donate money or cook for those who don’t have the luxury of planning their Ramadan menu. And most importantly, when you do host others, do not waste food. There are always families willing to take any leftovers. And when you eat, only take as much food as you can realistically consume, and don’t toss what you don’t finish. Save it for later.

However, because of the expected difficulty we encounter while refraining from eating during the day, we often tend to overcompensate for that deprivation at night. Though it is expected that a fasting person will undoubtedly look forward to their next meal, we tend not only to look forward to our meals, but to obsess over them. This becomes especially apparent in our iftar dinners with other families. Ramadan becomes 30- (or 29-) day marathon of nonstop engorgement, post-sundown. Families invite one another over daily for iftar, a gesture of kindness and brotherhood. But our intentions can turn awry when with each meal we seek to outdo Just by being conscious of these things, we can enthe last. Providing a modest dinner of one entrée sure a fruitful month filled with faith and family, and dessert is embarrassing! We need variety! We and maybe a little food. 20

Jokes & Thoughts

A man escapes from a prison where he’s been locked up for 15 years. He breaks into a house to look for money and guns. Inside, he finds a young couple in bed. He orders the guy out of bed and ties him to a chair. While tying the homeowner’s wife to the bed, the convict gets on top of her, kisses her neck, then gets up and goes into the bathroom. While he’s in there, the husband whispers over to his wife: “Listen, this guy is an escaped convict. Look at his clothes! He’s probably spent a lot of time in jail and hasn’t seen a woman in years. I saw how he kissed your neck. If he wants sex, don’t resist, don’t complain... do whatever he tells you. Satisfy him no matter how much he nauseates you. This guy is obviously very dangerous. If he gets angry, he’ll kill us both. Be strong, honey. I love you!” His wife responds: “He wasn’t kissing my neck. He was whispering in my ear. He told me that he’s gay, thinks you’re cute, and asked if we have any Vaseline. I told him it was in the bathroom. Be strong honey. I love you, too!”

Coronavirus Coronaviruses are enveloped, positivesense, single-stranded RNA viruses. Coronaviruses are named because the envelope of the virus has glycoprotein spikes that give it a crown-like appearance on their surface. Human coronaviruses were first identified in the mid-1960s. There are seven coronaviruses can infect people, sometimes coronaviruses that infect animals can evolve and make people sick and become a new human coronavirus. including MERS-CoV, SARS-CoV, and SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19). They will be no medicine to treat Coronavirus. It’s flu like disease where treatments can only help with symptoms but not fighting the virus. Immune system is the only one can overcome the disease and fight the virus. Elderly and those with underlying health issues remain the most vulnerable patients as with many other strains of respiratory illnesses. Like common cold viruses the one who become infected with this virus will experience mild symp-

toms only and will fully recover or even may not experience any symptoms but can transmit the virus to others. It is very imperative to strengthen your immune system by taking Vitamin C from available food and drink. This will help you fight the virus faster with minimal symptoms.

Easter The Great Feast of PASCHA (Easter) in the Holy Orthodox Christian Church By: Very Reverend Father Fouad Saba

At the center of the Orthodox Christian Faith, the Great Feast of Pascha (Easter) defines all other feasts and teachings. To understand this most important feast, the Church prepares her believers with a beautiful cycle of feasts, prayers, hymns, readings, and teachings. Believers are called to intensify their reading of the Holy Bible, attending of worship services, personal prayer, almsgiving, and fasting. For 2000 years, the Church has upheld the teaching and the preaching of the Holy Gospel to the whole world delivering the good news which began in the holy land where the Lord Jesus Christ was born, raised, thought, suffered, died, and resurrected from the dead. Before the Lord Jesus Christ was born, the broken world, corrupted by sin, received many prophets to warn and admonish the people. Yet, the people were still in the captivity of sin, far from God. This sin committed by Adam and his descendants resulted in death. Saint Paul the Apostle teaches, “the wages of sin is death.” (Romans 6:23) Therefore, God did not give up on mankind. After many attempts through prophets, He now sends His Son to save the world from their sins and evil thoughts and deeds. He did not give up. This, He does out of love. “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him, should not perish, but have everlasting life.” (John 3:16) Through His Son, He offers forgiveness to all and renews the world. The Great Feast of Pascha (Easter) is known as the ‘Feast of Feasts’ and the ‘Season of Seasons.” This 28

is due to it being the foundation of the entire faith. God teaches His people second chances are possible - this time for the whole world! However, He does not just suffer on the Cross, die, and resurrects. For us, He gives us His Word so we don’t have to die but to live. This requires our hearts and minds to be open to receive His Word. This is why He resurrects—to come at us as a loving teacher! He is Risen to teach! We live to learn! Let us attend! Let us learn from the resurrected teacher! He does this out of love for mankind commanding mankind to love each other the same way, not giving up, but offering a second chance to each other as mankind was granted a second chance by the Creator Himself. God saves us by His teaching, the Gospel. Thank Him, do it, and share this gift with others. This is the message of the Great Feast of Pascha. God is the God of the living. God resurrects His pure, innocent, and obedient Son, Jesus Christ, to give life to all. In His house, we learn forgiveness, we give forgiveness, we ask forgiveness. In His house, we live. In His house, we are invited to stay forever by living His Gospel. The Orthodox Christian Church celebrates Great and Holy Pascha on April 19th this year. Christ is Risen! Indeed, He is Risen! Al Maseeh Qam! Hakkan Qam! Saint George Antiochian Orthodox Church is located in Cicero, Illinois. Website: www.StGeorgeChi.org Pastor: Very Reverend Father Fouad Saba
