JOKES To submit your event/articles in the upcoming editions, email us at: info@hyattmag.com A senior citizen drove his brand new Mercedes to 100 mph, looking in his rear view mirror , he saw a police car behind him. He floored it to 140 , then 150, ... then 170, ... Suddenly he thought, “I’m too old for this nonsense !” So he pulled over to the side of the road and waited for the police car to catch up with him . The officer walked up to him, looked at his watch and said, “Sir, my shift ends in ten minutes. Today is Friday and I’m taking off for the weekend. If you can give me a good reason that I’ve never heard before for why you were speeding. I’ll let U go.” The Man looked very seriously at the police man, and replied :- “Years ago, my wife ran off with a policeman, I thought you were bringing her back.” !!!

Action Story: Episode 4 By: Haya Barakat Lured Inside

Oh. My god.

I try to escape and I get knocked out for the second time today. I won’t be surprised if I get a concussion soon. I woke up in an empty bedroom about an hour ago. And by empty, I mean literally empty. The only thing in here an empty closet and a window. How did I get myself into this mess? Oh right. Because I’m stupid. I pace the room, thinking of a way to get out. They locked the door and I’m not even close to being strong enough to break it down. I feel like I’m about to break down. I sigh, about to give up, until I look up and finally realize what good that window in the corner can do. I bolt to the window and look down. I’m two stories up, I won’t make it if I jump. But there’s at least two feet of snow. It can protect me from the ground. I’m only wearing a jacket, gloves, and boots. Not much considering it’s a freezing blizzard outside, but I can find shelter somewhere else if I can get out of here.

I take a deep breath, praying that the window is unlocked, and pull it open. The wind hits me like a hundred icicles ripping through my clothes. I’m already freezing, and I’m not even outside yet. I look down again. Hopefully the snow is hard enough so it keeps me safe, but soft enough that it doesn’t hurt me. Screw this, is my last thought before I jump out the window out of a two-story house and crash to the snowy white ground. I barely feel a thing. It was like landing on a pillow, or jumping on a cold water bed. I sigh in relief and wriggle myself out of the snow. I look up at the window I jumped out of, hoping that Tony and Holt don’t come in the room and realize I’m gone anytime soon. I smile and start sprinting to anywhere but the horrible place. Let’s just say that I don’t make it far before the real storm begins. Before I’m even ten feet away from the wooden cabin, the howling wind picks up and almost knocks me off my feet. I slip on a slippery piece of ice and land on

my back. Groaning in pain and frustration, I unsteadily climb to my feet again. I’m shivering from head to toe, but I don’t care. I’m almost free. I don’t know where to go, I don’t even know where the street is. But I know how to find it. I look back at the house and see the driveway the red car I climbed into before is parked. There’s a small dirt path that I’m sure leads to the street. Grinning, I bolt back to the cabin and enter the driveway. I walk into the dirt path and follow it to what I hope is the street. I jog and jog until I hear car engines, honking, and a siren. I know I’m close to the street, but that’s not what excites me. I recognize that siren as a police siren. The police can bring me back home, and send those two loons Tony and Holt straight to jail. I’m doing a full-on sprint now, the sounds of cars and trucks growing louder and louder every second. I can’t believe that I’m almost there. I’m almost free! And that’s when everything goes downhill. The wind grows stronger and colder by every step I take. It’s To continue reading see page 20

like the wind is trying to tell me to stop running and turn back, like it’s trying to warn me, but I ignore the signs. I won’t stop now. That is until the sirens come. These aren’t police, firetruck, or ambulance sirens. This is much worse, much louder, and much more terrifying. It’s a tornado siren. My heart starts to pound as I realize that if I don’t turn back, I might get caught up in a tornado. That’s one of my worst fears. I stop in my tracks. By now, I can see the street very faintly. I know that I’m so close to being set free from that prison, but I can’t go. I might get hurt, or worse. If that tornado siren is real, and there really is a tornado, then I might be doomed. The sounds of the police siren and the cars are quickly drowned out by the howling wind and the ear-deafening tornado siren. I breathe rapidly as I try to decide what to do. I can either turn back and risk getting caught by my two kidnappers who want to call my parents and only give me back for a price, or I can go forward to the street and rick getting caught in a tornado. There are pros and cons for each decision I make, and I can only make one. I sigh and finally choose to go forward. I will not let Tony

and Holt take me back there. I take one last breath before I start sprinting to the street. My ears start to hurt from the loudness that hits me like a baseball bat, but I keep on going. I’m almost there. I watch as the street and cars grow closer and closer. Before I know it, I can see the red and blue lights from the police car flashing from the left side of the street. I grin and run as fast as my legs can take me to the officer, hoping that someone’s there. No one’s there. I look around, but it looks like everyone evacuated. There are a few cars and a truck, including the police car, which the lights are still flashing from. I race to each car and the truck, investigating inside in search of anyone here. It’s completely empty. The last thing I do is check inside the police car. All I see is a walkie-talkie and a pair of metal handcuffs. I grab both of those, shoving the handcuffs into the hidden pocket on the inside of my coat and the walkie-talkie inside the other one, just in case Tony and Holt decide to stop by and spot me here. I look in the trunk of the police car and see a few things I need. A first aid kit, a flashlight, a pen, a notepad, a small plastic bag full of dried fruits, and two

bottles of water. I take everything out and make sure I can fit everything inside my pockets. I shove the pen, notepad, handcuffs, bag of fruits, and walkie-talkie inside the first aid kit and place that in my inside-jacket pocket. Then I place the two water bottles inside my other inside pocket. Lastly, I take the flashlight and check to see if it works. I notice two extra batteries for it inside the trunk, so I grab those and quickly shove them in my pocket with the two water bottles. Thankfully, the flashlight works, and very well, too. I’m literally knocked off my feet just then as a huge gust of wind storms through the street. I have difficulty getting back up, the wind is just so strong. The police lights are still flashing and the tornado siren is still blaring loudly. I grab onto the back of the police car and haul myself onto my feet again. I quickly zip up my jacket and slam the trunk closed. Hopefully everything in my pockets won’t slow me down, so I’m thankful it’s all light. I finally feel as if I’m slightly safe with all this protection on me, until I hear the crackling of thunder and lightning. I look up and spot the poles and wires falling to the ground. I scream and take cover behind the police car. It doesn’t hit me, but it was really close. I stand up with some trouble again, and look up to see my worst nightmare coming to life. There’s a huge, deadly tornado coming straight to me. To Be Continued…
