Universal School’s Event Universal School’s 26th Annual Fundraising Dinner By Hind Abdelaziz

General of the Republic of Turkey, Umut Acar. Mr. Acar began his speech with condolences to those who lost loved on in Paris and reminded the dinner attendees of the turmoil occurring in the Middle East that requires the representation of Muslim leaders, stating that Universal School creates the foundation for developing such leaders. Dinner was served, which included a light salad with mixed greens, creamy broccoli cheddar soup and chicken with a lemon caper sauce. Awards were given to families and staff that have dedicated their time and support to the school for more than 10 years, leading into the accelerated fundraising portion of the night.

On Friday November 20th, Universal School hosted its 26th Annual Fundraising Dinner. The night commenced with a light hearted introduction from the hosts Lamise Said and Fida Zoubeidi, of the Mother’s Club, that consisted of laughs at the timeliness of Chicago’s unpredictable weather and also categorizing Universal School as school founder Dr.Amine’s eighth child. After the hosts’ monologue, the evening continued with Quranic recitation from senior Mohammed Zahdan, who read verses about the merits of giving wealth for the sake of Allah.

Father’s Club president and board member Tayseer Doleh conducted an auctions of items donated by Universal families, including two signed Bulls jerseys and two Turkish Airlines tickets to Umrah. The night ended with an appreciation for coming and a hospitable farewell, until next year, from the hosts.

Following the recitation there was a short documentary on the exciting additions to the new building, as well as speeches from principal Mrs. Abdallah, Dr. Amine and the keynote speaker, Consul 18
