Rosacea, Redness, Pimples and Beyond with Dr.Suwan

It is characterized by appearances of redness, bright red splotches on the face often dotted by small red pimples, pus-filled bumps in fair skinned individuals who flush easily. Mostly prevalent in females between ages 30 – 60 years. Some patients have a history of other relatives with rosacea making them more susceptible to develop this condition. The redness starts in the face and may extend as far as the eyes, ears, chest, and back. The disorder may flare up for a period of weeks to months and then diminish before flaring up again. If left untreated it worsens over time. It is important to be able to recognize it and manage it before progression occurs. The symptoms range between persistent redness in the central portion of your face and hot and tender bumps on the face that resemble acne, to eye dryness, irritation and swollen, reddened eyelids and rarely, thickening of the skin on the nose, causing the nose to appear bulbous (more common in women). Although the exact cause is unknown there does exist a genetic and environmental influence in 6

risks for adverse reactions and potential for causing birth defects, and the common acne prescription medications. Hence, certain precautions need to be exercised as avoiding sun exposure by using a good sun screen; and especially in women of childbearing age and strict contraception needs to be implemented to avoid pregnancy. Now a days intense pulsed light (IPL) is being used increasingly to treat patients with rosacea. After just one treatment patients experienced significant improvement. After the second treatment many patients experience reductions in flushing, burning, itching, dryness, swelling, and sensitivity. Although, as with any treatment method, IPL is not effective for everyone but most patients notice some improvement in symptoms after only one or two treatments. Side effects are temporary; namely, redness, swelling, bruising, and skin lightening from the IPL and should resolve on their own. One of the most important lifestyle modification would be to avoid anything that would likely cause a flare up. Patients could consider some of the following; wearing a broadspectrum sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher, protect your face in the winter with a scarf or ski mask, wash skin with a gentle, hypoallergenic cleanser, avoid facial products that contain alcohol or other skin irritants, using a green tinted foundation would help even out the skin tone for those who use make up. It’s reported that Princess Diana struggled with rosacea.

certain individuals developing rosacea as compared to others. Many factors aggravate rosacea by causing dilation of vessels at the skin surface to cause redness. A few such factors are hot foods or beverages, spicy foods, alcohol, sunlight, temperature extremes (weather being too hot or too cold, hot baths or saunas), emotional stressors (stress, anger or embarrassment), strenuous exercise, medications like corticosteroids (prednisone), and blood pressure medications. Since there is no specific test for rosacea, diagnosis relies solely on history of symptoms and a physical examination of the patient’s skin. Careful history and examination is key in differentiating rosacea from acne, psoriasis, eczema and lupus. Treatment and management of rosacea consists of prescription medications and lifestyle modifications, together they can control and reduce the signs and symptoms. Topical and oral antibiotics are used to decrease inflammation and if ineffective the patient is put on acne medications. Accident & Injury with Dr Elborno Have you been injured in motor vehicle accident or work related injury?

Our team of professional doctors and lawyers will help you get well and get the settlement you deserve. Personal injury is a legal term for an injury to the body, mind or emotions, as opposed to an injury to property. The most common types of personal injury claims are road traffic accidents, accidents at work, tripping accidents, assault claims, accidents in the home, product defect accidents (product liability) and holiday accidents. Damages are categorized as either special or general. In torts, special damages are measurable costs which can be itemized such as medical expenses, lost earnings, and property damages whereas general damages include less measurable costs such as pain and suffering, loss of consortium, and emotional distress. Personal injury torts result in both special and general damages.

The amount of compensation for a personal injury will primarily depend on the severity of the injury. Serious injuries (such as broken bones, severed limbs, brain damage) that cause intense physical pain and suffering receive the highest injury settlements. Aside from compensation for injuries, the injured person may get compensated for the lifetime effect of the injuries. Payments will be through a settlement agreement or a judgment as a result of a trial. Settlements can be either lump-sum or as a structured settlement in which the payments are made over a period of time. Despite the general distinction between bodily injury and personal injury in insurance contracts, auto insurance known as personal injury protection (PIP) does cover medical expenses from body injury.

AADC’s 30th Annual Candidates Forum & Brunch

Gov. Pat Quinn

The Arab American Democratic Club held its 30th Anniversary Annual Candidates’ Forum and Brunch on October 19th at the Belvedere Chateau in Palos Hills. The large banquet hall was filled to capacity with community members, supporters, elected officials and candidates. It was a powerful show of what the Arab-American community can do together, united, focused, and ready to utilize its collective vote

the event was the AADC Board of Directors who were everywhere, involved, excited, ambitious, and very well organized. Board members walked from table to table ensuring that everyone felt welcomed and appreciated. The Master of Ceremonies, and current AADC President, Khaled J. Elkhatib, ran the program like the seasoned professional he is. The candidates’ forum was attended by a nationally known list of the Democratic Party’s local and state representatives and candidates for office. Governor Pat Quinn was the keynote speaker for the highly successful event. He spoke about the importance of voting and how the Arab American community has always been loyal to the Democratic Party. Governor Quinn also mentioned that he has been friends with AADC Board Members Samir Khalil

Khaled J. Elkhatib State Senator Mike Frerichs, who is running for Illinois State Treasurer, who lived up to his campaign slogan of being the tallest Democrat in the room, spoke of the importance of honesty and accountability in politics. to effect positive change. Started in 1983, the AADC continues to inform the Arab-American community of Illinois Democratic candidates, proving that the Arab voice does make a difference in voting on Election Day. They also ensure that Arab-Americans have a permanent, meaningful seat at the table of American politics by presenting candidates in these types of forums and events, and giving community members the opportunity to connect with their elected officials. As usual, the brunch was a great success, a tribute to the hard work of the board members and growing organization. Seamlessly running
