PCRF Event The Palestine Children’s Relief Fund (PCRF) Chicago Chapter held their 6th annual Fundraising Gala on Sunday April 13th at the Westin O’Hare. Over 500 people were in attendance to listen to PCRF President & CEO, Steve Sosebee and keynote speakers Mrs. and Mr. Cindy and Craig Corrie, parents to the great humanitarian Rachel Corrie. The event was a success in raising awareness and much needed funds to help with PCRF’s ongoing missions. The theme of the evening was Gaza and it concluded with a performance by Palestinian American Comedian Aron Kader. The PCRF is an American registered 501 (C) 3 nonpolitical, nonprofit humanitarian medical relief organization with over 20 years experience in arranging free

medical care for sick and injured children from the Middle East; both by sending them abroad for medical care and by sending surgical teams from all over the world to treat kids locally. Currently there are half a dozen children from the Middle East in the USA, the UAE and Europe being treated through the PCRF, and over 1,100 have been treated since 1991. Over 15,000 other children have had complex surgery in the Middle East by visiting teams sent by the PCRF. In addition, over 20 children have been treated in Chicago by the PCRF in the past several years, and they are supported and cared for by volunteers from the PCRF Chicago chapter and the Chicago community.
The Chicago Chapter was happy to welcome 6 year-old Hanan Alhroob, a Palestinian refugee from the Dara’a refugee camp in southern Syria. On September 23, 2013 Hanan lost her leg when a jet dropped a bomb on the camp. She was taken to Jordan for emergency medical care, but her parents, were not allowed into Jordan. The Palestine Children’s Relief Fund Jordan chapter found Hanan and the organization arranged for her stump revision surgery at the Chicago Shriners Hospital, so that she can be fitted with an artificial leg at Lurie Children’s Hospital. On April 13, the girl arrived from Jordan and has been staying with a host family in the Chicago area. PCRF-Chicago would like to extend its thanks and deep gratitude for the kindness and generosity of our local Chicago community and family that makes our work possible!

Commissioner Spyropoulos Speaks To Students At Earth Day Events
Chicago, IL – As millions of people around the world recognize Earth Day, Chicagoans are getting informed and involved. Chicago City Colleges organized events at their Truman College and Harold Washington College campuses, and invited Commissioner Mariyana Spyropoulos to talk to approximately 200 students about the importance of protecting our drinking water, as well as how MWRD invests in sustainability. “It was refreshing to see so many students engaged in Earth Day activities and genuinely wanting to make a difference. Each of us can do a small part that will
make a huge impact on the planet. At MWRD, every single day is Earth Day. We are continually looking for ways to protect the environment and be good stewards of our natural resources”, said Commissioner Spyropoulos. The Metropolitan Water Reclamation District is an award-winning special purpose government agency responsible for wastewater treatment and stormwater management. MWRD’s mission is to protect the health and safety of the public, the quality of the water supply source (Lake Michigan) and protect businesses and homes from flood damages. -Khaled ElKhatib
