Im Hussein in Kicago. October 19, 2013, Im Hussien arrived to Chicago to celebrate their 25th Anniversary. The performance took place at a local college theater in Chicago. This year show was called “The Jubilee Show”. Many Middle Eastern attended that night from all over Chicago land area and surrounding vicinities. At 8pm, everyone gathered into theater, slowly dimmed light, and the red curtain opened and what to expect from that night, humorous and entertainment? The Main character in the play was Im Hussein (played by Najee Mondalek) and Im Elias (played by Michael Mondalek). The show was about Im Elias being a good friend and translator for Im Hussein and both where living in Dearborn Michigan. The funny part that Im Elias had trouble with translation, therefore, Im Elias translation goes wrong for Im Hussein, getting her in trouble. That was a great performance on stage includes silliness and deceptive the translation from Arabic to Shwa (Little) English. The misleading of words of translation had taken the audience laughing off their seats all night. The play lasted over two hours with laughter and enjoyment to watch. Since 1988 to 2013, Im Hussein’s Show has been touring around the country and more. Which this year, the play took place in Chicago or Im Hussein would say “KICAGO”!!

AQSA School’s Hajj

On Thursday October 10th, Aqsa School’s elementary department from pre-k to 5th grade participated in the annual Mock Hajj program. Each year Ms. Mona, the head of the Arabic and Religion department for elementary, directs the students in developing a mock Hajj program to demonstrate the rituals that go along with Hajj. Students and staff worked diligently for weeks leading up to the big day. At such a young age, students are able to develop a meaningful understanding of one of the fundamental pillars of Islam. Students get to work hands-on in creating the layout of Hajj and actually walk through the process of Hajj in this mock environment.

Parents and family members filled the room eager to watch their children perform the mock Hajj. It was a fun and engaging program for the students to learn and understand the Islamic tradition of Hajj. The Elementary Religion department is very proud of all the hard work put in by the students and the successful outcome of the program. - By Aqsa School
