MIC Charity Event On Saturday, February 15th, myself and seven other incredible young individuals held the first ever charity event of our new organization, MIC. M.I.C., as in short for microphone, stands for Muslims Interacting for Charity. I, Mohammad Alshaikh, founded this new, youthrun organization. With the utmost cooperation of my peers, we have constructed this innovative charity event. The MIC Charity Event was held at my public high-school, Andrew High School. There, we provided our audience of over five-hundred people with an entertainment event that they will never forget. We showcased a wide range of talents that our Arab-American community has to offer such as unique Nasheed rapartists and singers, a breathtaking Debka Crew, and notably, the famous YouTube comedians Qias Omar and Harris who make up QOP, and the renowned Yousef Erakat of FOUSEYTUBE. In those few hours, we were able to bring joy to everyone in the crowd, with mile-wide smiles being seen on every single face. More importantly, we were able to reach our goal, the original slogan of MIC, to “create laughs for lives”. All thanks and praises be to Allah, after all was said and done, our event generated a total of over $12,200! This is an incredibly large sum for “a few high-schoolers” to raise alone. It definitely was not an easy process, but through the stress, hard-work and long hours, we were finally able to grasp our success. This means that after we paid off all of our dues, we are now able to send approximately $9,000 directly to those who need it most; the orphans in Syria who cry for our help because their families have been taken away, the occupied Palestinians who in their own land have nowhere to stay, and lastly the hard-hit Egyptians who need more of our help as they work toward their “spring”, day by day. It may be hard to imagine that

the boards of two high-school Muslim Student Associations from Andrew and Oak Forest, who make up the board of MIC, were able to pull off such an amazing event, but as you can see it is undoubtedly possible. As President of Muslims Interacting for Charity, I can vouch that we the youth of MIC, of the Muslim Student Associations in all of the South-suburbs, and of all of America will not stop at just this simple event, for this was only a building block. It is our intention to keep building this wall of progress through the youth of our communities, God willing, to continue supporting the greater good of our Muslim-American community and to support those who will need it most until our wall reaches the gates of Paradise. I would personally like to thank the young individuals that helped make this happen; Helwa Saleh, Suhair Said, Fedaa Masoud, Bashar Abuseini, Ibrahim Hasan, and Heba Alsheikh. Surely, without every single person on our team, this would not have been a successful event. I must also thank our personal mentors in aiding us along the way; our beloved parents, Shadi Jabali, Malek Shaar, and Ahmed Mustafa. Lastly, I would personally like to thank Hyatt Magazine for allowing the voice of us, the Muslim youth, to not go unheard. It is time for everyone to follow in Hyatt’s footsteps and start realizing that the youth are much more capable in being active through more than just the average school bake sale. Let me conclude with stating that it is up to us all; you, me and all the other Islamic Organizations in America to actively lead the advancement of Muslims in America to further enhance our entire society. - By: Mohammad Alshaikh

On Saturday February 15th, Aqsa School hosted its 28th Annual Gala at the Belvedere Chateau. The hall was full with students, staff, families, partnering organizations, alumni, and supportive community members. Sister Hind Makki enlightened the audience with her stories of the Prophet (pbuh) and his companions and how they transfer to our school and community. Some of the many accomplishments of Aqsa School students were highlighted throughout the dinner in videos and student presentations. Of course, the entire night would not have been possible without all of the generous supporters of Aqsa School. The principle of giving your time and effort to others, which has been engrained in Aqsa students from the inception of the school, lives on today, and was demonstrated by the diligent and dependable student volunteers helping the whole program run smoothly. From babysitting, to collecting donations, to running our silent auction, to registration, we could not have implemented such a successful event without our beloved students! In addition to the students, the Aqsa School Mother’s Club, once again, put in a great amount of time and effort to help plan and implement this successful and blessed dinner.
