“EV” means home in Turkish Evteks means home textiles. Evteks means trend and trade in all languages. It means one of the best spots to source the best home textile products at the most competitive conditions. Evteks means you will have to come to Turkey this May. It means, “Welcome to Istanbul” to see the latest trends, designs, colors and styles... You will either come to buy ideal products or to discover where the industry is going or to update your technology. You will come to observe the fourth largest textile industry of the world, the second largest supplier of EU and one of the fastest emerging markets of the world. We have already come from Como, Italy, where we witnessed the enthusiasm of the world fabric and furnishing industry at Proposte show. Proposte was promising for the economy in general and for the sector in particular. The world has been going through a diverse crisis while Turkey has been enjoying a strong and stabile economy. There is a huge foreign investment inflow into Turkey. The BIST, Istanbul Stock Exchange has around 65% foreign capital. All industries attract considerable foreign investors. There are crazy-big projects such as Marmaray, the largest airport of the world, canal projects, etc. Turkey is a must-see country for especially investors. It is a touristic beauty, a historical value and a pleasurable destination for shopping and dining. After the last elections made in March 30, the government reinforced the political stability in the country thereby generating a convenient atmosphere for investments. So, come, see for yourself!

Brentano offers a playful angle on luxury

B

Natural materials, thoughtful lines characterize durable new residential textiles

rentano’s spring Discovery collection puts an acute focus on details, like natural materials and thoughtful lines, that introduce luxury for high end interiors without compromising on wearability. Taking a creative angle on the understated elegance of the Discovery collection, Hill and Dale magnifies a playful chevron to a bold scale.

Two different weft yarns, one a textural boucle of polyester, linen and viscose and the other a viscose chenille, define the pattern’s canted lines and give the upholstery a natural softness. In eight striking colorways, 54” Hill and Dale effortlessly fits into residential environments but also passes 70,000 double rubs (Wyzenbeek) for contract applications.

Trevira CS finds Mood an ideal meeting point

T

he quality approach of MoOD and its commitment to the contract market are the most important strengths for Trevira CS. “For us, MoOD is the ideal place to connect with our customers and partners in the contract market. Here we have an international platform to present the Trevira CS concept together with our direct customers”, says Anke Vollenbröker, Head of Marketing & Business Development Trevira GmbH. Today Trevira sees an increasing demand for yarn technologies supporting 3D-effects in the fabric. But also UV-stabilized yarns - all in addition to the FR properties - are often requested today. Trevira CS responds to this with an “upgrade” achieved by add-on functions. Additionally there is a strong focus on color. Anke Vollenbröcker: “In our second Trevira CS Fabric Creativity competition we have seen anything from bold color to simple and pure textiles with a strong emphasis on structure and feel, providing a certain luxury to the fabric. What certainly sticks out are 3-dimensional materials - not only for their spectacular look, but also because they perfectly fit new areas of application, like acoustic textiles for example.”

Proposte offered luxury, necessity and beauty… “… with beauty, research, innovation and service: they must stay a step ahead of the competition,” has been the feature of Proposte this year in Cernobbio, Como, May 7-9, 2014.

“

And there in, perhaps, lies the strength of Proposte, which has always led the way in furnishing fabrics: in amazing visitors, year after year, with new collections presented to the world for the first time, the product of a well-balanced blend of craftsmanship and technology. This is why Proposte, 22 years down the line, is still an interesting show‌ saying Massimo Mosiello, general manager of Proposte at his invitation to this charming and exciting event. Mosiello has every reason to say so. Proposte has once again excited the professionals of interior designs and luxury lovers. Villa Erba has been an excellent venue for amazingly new and artistic collections of furnishing fabrics and curtains all coming from Europe. The twenty-second edition of Proposte - the world preview of furnishing fabrics and curtains amazed once again at the fascinating atmosphere of Villa Erba in Cernobbio, Como, Italy, 7-8-9 May.

Only European manufacturers of furnishing fabrics, curtains and trimmings are admitted to exhibit at Proposte. They must share at least three characteristics: the qualification of their companies and products, professional correctness, commitment to research and development in creativity and technologies. They all had these features. The press conference about the magic of Proposte on May 8 was all shouting the future trends and future success of the industry. The presentation of President Piercarlo Vigano and Vice President Mauro Cavelli were the key to success and prestige. To build up international recognition of brands, they had excellent hints for the trend and trade developers. Proposte is quite unique in the trends that are identified during the actual show. The trends report, produced by an in-house style team who visit the stands and photograph the items deemed the most innovative, will be posted for all to view on our website on the 20th of May complete with high-definition images and explanatory text.

Proposte is always visited for business and pleasure. The environment fascinate every attendant and everybody visiting the venue will definitely miss the opportunity until the next Proposte. Music is another attraction for Proposte exhibitors. The traditional musical evening held on the 8th of May at 6.30pm featured a performance by the brilliant and highly cultured RhapsĂłdija Trio.

Proposte prides itself on offering a quality array of product from a specially selected list of European exhibitors. The event is equally discerning when it comes to its visitors – members of the public are not admitted, and trade professionals can only enter if invited and issued an entry card by the fair’s operative secretariat. Only textile editors, manufacturers of upholstered furniture, wholesalers, converters, buying groups and contract operators are admitted, by invitation only, to the fair. Entrance to the fair is possible only with an entry card, issued by the Operative Secretariat. While customers generally planned cautious buying, demonstrating the need to proceed warily in ever-changing markets, the event was judged by the exhibitors to be lively given the variety of countries represented and the interest shown in the new collections. The only European exhibitors fair registered 96 European exhibitors this year despite ongoing economic crisis. Proposte attracts the major buyers from an impressive 73 countries, usually coming from Australia, China, Japan, Greece, India, Poland, Taiwan and Turkey.

Interior trends 2015/2016 by Milou Ket The new ‘Interiors’ book of Ket offers inspiring themes for all seasons

INTRODUCTION In this new ‘INTERIORS’, edition 2015 / 2016, the most influential international themes are shown. The book contains both summer and winter themes. There are six themes featured, all with their corresponding color cards. For weavers, printers and spinners we there is a special box with colors, meant for the interior, contract and hospitality market, where cotton yarns are dyed after specification. This is a separate product, but there are also extra skeins available on request to go with this book. Besides that, there is a list of the compatible Pantone® cotton colors. Every theme is shown with its corresponding color card, plus more than 100 inspiring materials that match the themes in color and character. At the end of the book is a list of sources, designers and manufacturers that are featured in this INTERIORS book. Color has been accepted in the interior. Neutral colors are the base to add colors in different intensities. The pastel colors will be the most important for textiles and accessories. The first theme “PopUp Brights” shows bright and primary colors, often against a white, neutral or black background. The second theme ”Soft Focus” is partly contemporary, partly traditional romantic and vintage, in fresh pastel colors. “Ethni Craft” is the third theme, based on handicraft, from different corners of the world. In “Nordic by Nature” the emphasis is on cool neutrals, now combined with dusty pastel colors to meet the demand for more color. Exotic nature and jungle fever take a central role in the theme “Second Nature” in colors inspired by nature, combined with some bright accents. In the last theme “Opulent Glamour” we are inspired by our cultural heritage, and add luxurious materials, in deep basic colors and exiting accent colors. Metallics are important. Different styles are mixed.

1. POP-UP BRIGHTS

COLORS:

Color has become very important over the last few seasons. This will be continued, but the pastels will be the most important. In this first styling direction we see slightly faded bright colors, with a touch of vintage, but also primary colors in the style of the Dutch painter Mondrian. Art is an important source of inspiration, for instance Pop Art, the art of Sonia Delauney and Vasarely with their colorful effects. These bright colors are mainly meant for accessories, but we see them also applied for walls. Geometry, and painterly effects such as blending watercolors are important. Mistakes from the computer are used in prints. Everything is light and airy. Therefor we will see a lot of metal wire furniture. Sometimes the inside of a bowl or vase is very colorful. Ceramics and glass will be important. Opposed to cool materials we will see warm, textured materials such a felt and wool to balance the effect. Black is often used as a good background color and in outlines to make the colors shine.

For this theme we see a range of bright colors, but slightly faded for a vintage effect. They work best in combination with black or neutral colors such as beige and grey. They are also combined with old wood. As colors we see Bright Red, Bright Pink, Bright Orange, Warm Yellow, Bright Green, Bright Cyan, Cobalt Blue and Purple. Black is an important background color, and is also used for outlines. White as a combination color gives the necessary freshness.

2. SOFT FOCUS

COLORS:

This theme is partly contemporary, partly romantic, feminine, classical and traditional. The range of the pastel colors will be the most important of the season. Nature plays an important role, but in a refined way. We see old-fashioned floral patterns, old engravings and poetic images. It has often a touch of glamour because of the combination with mirrored surfaces and the use of metallics and sateen. The use of gradient colors is important as well. The volumes are rounded and friendly. Sometimes a touch of an even brighter color will be applied. Old handicraft and new techniques are combined. We will see a lot of lace and matte/ shine effects, open work and laser-cut materials in an opaque/ transparent interpretation. It is mostly light hearted, elegant and feminine. White is often used as a background color, but we also see different shades of beige, for a recycled effect. Colors are combined for a gradient color effect.

Fresh pastel colors prevail. The emphasis is on the range of pink shades. The colors are: Lipstick Pink, Pastel Pink, Salmon, Blush, Pastel Yellow, Mint Green, Soft Turquoise and Pastel Green. They are often combined with white for a fresh effect, but also with beige for a more antique and worn effect.

3. ETHNI CRAFT COLORS: Products from all over the world find a place in our interiors as a souvenir from far-way places and our travels. We have become a kind of modern Nomads, travelling around and making our homes in various places. Regional Folk art is valued again. From refined Far Eastern ideas with flowers and birds, Chinese porcelain to Navajo Indian hand-woven blankets and Berber weaves. With African wooden sculptures and masks, and Turkish applications and Kelim patterns. We also see interest in materials coming from the former colonies like Indonesia. The colors are warm and rich and combine well among each other. Peacock is one of the most important colors and is combined tone-in-tone in different shades of blues and greens. Luxurious materials and almost forgotten hand-made techniques play a role. Warm red brown is the most important background color. Also the English country side, and the forest in autumn colors are important with tweeds and checks.

The colors in this theme are warm and expressive. Red brown is the most important background color and makes the range work. As colors we see Red Brown, Tomato Red, Copper, which acts also as a warm orange, Ochre, Aubergine, Light Peacock, Indigo Blue and Purple. All these colors combine well. Luxurious materials and almost forgotten techniques play a role to obtain a rich and warm look. Peacock will be one of the most important colors and will be used also for painted walls.

TRENDS

4. NORDIC BY NATURE

COLORS:

In this direction we see Nordic influences from Scandinavia. Before this theme consisted only of neutral colors, but now some dusty pastel shades are added to meet the demand for more color. Mostly the textures and decorative objects are inspired by nature, such as fossils, shells, seeds and a whole range of animals. Cold winter landscapes with snow, photo prints in black, white and shades of grey are important here. These neutrals and dusty pastels are sometimes combined with the anthracite grey, chocolate brown and black from the last theme, but only in small touches to add some accent and interest. White is also an important color, and comes to life, in fragmented and angular shapes. Laser cuts, and pleating give a shadowy effect. The neutrals are often the base and background color, to be combined with the pastel colors. There is not much contrast in this theme. The metals are often aged, worn and oxidized. Hairy materials such as hides, furs and mohair are added for balance.

Besides several neutral colors we see some dusty pastel tones. As colors we see beige, soft orange that can act as a color or represents also a warm shade of wood. Pale yellow, dusty pink and a snow white, ice blue, pearl grey and middle Grey. The anthracite grey, the brown and black from our last theme can be easily combined with this range, to add more accent and interest. White is also important and is combined with pleating to add shadow effects.

5. SECOND NATURE

COLORS:

Nature is a very important source of inspiration. In this theme we see the emphasis on lush, exotic nature, tropical, with foliage and leaves, exotic flowers such as orchids, and parrots, parakeets, monkey’s, leopards, butterflies and insects. But also the underwater world is a source of inspiration, like lobsters and clams, fishes and corals. It is like jungle fever, or urban jungle. We see botanical influences as well, but in brighter colors than we have seen before. Besides some green shades and a khaki, there are some accent colors like a poisonous lime and a signal red. But also bright yellow and turquoise could be used as an accent. The former Arts and Crafts movement of William Morris in the United Kingdom meets a revival. His fabrics are still made. Flora and Fauna, but also the creatures from the sea with shells, corals and fishes is a source of inspiration. We see show cases and bell jars and we take plants into our homes.

In this direction we see several green shades such as Khaki Green, Grass Green, Poisonous Lime. Besides that, two very bright colors, hypnotizing pink and signal red. Also a bright turquoise and yellow from our other ranges could be well combined as an accent. Besides those, there are three water colors: Jade blue, lagoon green and an ocean blue. Often white is used as a fresh background color.

6. OPULENT GLAMOUR COLORS: The rich historic paintings from the Dutch Golden Age are the source of inspiration for this color theme in mysterious gem - and dark colors. The theme is traditional, based on an opulent cultural heritage, with rich metallic such as bronze, copper, tin and oxidized metals such a gold and silver. There is a kind of golden light over everything and color comes to the forefront against a dark background. As colors we see Golden Yellow, Prune, Magenta, Peacock, Deep Night Blue and three basic colors such as a warm Chocolate Brown, Anthracite Grey and of course Black. The shapes can be simple, but mostly the materials are rich and luxurious. The shapes themselves can also be quite minimal. It can be contemporary, but it can be also more traditional and even baroque. Black and white will be continued. Circles and Spirals are popular motifs. Illustrations with a Surrealistic touch and engravings as well as the work of Cocteau, remain important.

In this theme the emphasis is on a range of dark colors, and colors that remind us of gems. Like a facet of a gem, their different facets radiate their own colors, mostly tone-in-tone. Peacock will be a very important color and can be combined with turquoise and bright green from our bright color range. As colors we see Golden Yellow, Prune, Magenta, Peacock, Deep Night Blue and three basic colors such as a warm Chocolate Brown, Anthracite Grey and of course Black. These dark colors can be used in combinations with other themes as well. For contact: studio@milouket.com www.milouket.com www.milouket.tv

largest machine park for the production of both embroidery and guipure in the world. Europe’s largest factory producing quilt covers is in Turkey. The Turkish home textile industry has also acquired the latest technology with a high production capacity, a highly skilled labor pool, and design and fashion capabilities. In addition, the industry has managed to reduce the cost of production below the world average while it has increased the quality of its products. Therefore, with a huge production capacity, high quality and strong competitiveness, Turkey was among the world’s top three suppliers of towels, bed sheets, bedspreads and curtains in 2012. In the same way, Turkey was the second largest supplier of EU in towels, bed sheets, table clothes, bedspreads and curtains in 2012.

In Turkey, the towel sector has traditional roots and its towels are known as “Turkish Towels” worldwide. Today the Turkish towel sector has competitive power in international markets in terms of jacquard and embroidery technologies. Lace, which is commonly used in many textile applications, especially in home textiles, is originally a Turkish handicraft. It is an embroidery art reaching back to the mid 1500s and crowned by the labor of Turkish women. It is an outstanding handicraft with its traditional taste and motifs in different colors and lines, which are now reflected in modern home decoration. Turkish home textile producers are mainly located in Istanbul, Denizli, Bursa, Tekirdag, Izmir, Gaziantep, Kayseri and Usak. Towel and bathrobe producers are concentrated in Denizli and Bursa, voile producers in Istanbul and Bursa, and blanket producers in Usak. Many of the producers in these cities have integrated their production process from yarn and fabric production to product design, dying, finishing and sewing in order to obtain the best quality in every stage of production.

Denizli is the manufacturing center of toweling sector city is mostly concentrated on toweling sector. Over 190 companies in Denizli manufacture cotton towels and bathrobes. Such a manufacturing facility on one product group in the same area is a success story and a good example of the cluster development. In Denizli, towels and bathrobes are manufactured from Aegean cotton which is the finest cotton in the world. These towels and bathrobes are well known throughout the world with their extraordinary softness, absorbency and warmth. Their extraordinary pile thickness and density give towels and bathrobes these superior features. In addition, the more these towels and bathrobes are washed, the softer and more absorbent they become, contrary to the ordinary products. That’s why Denizli on its own has a major share in world’s cotton towel and bathrobe exports. About 90% of these products are exported to all over the world. “Turkish Towels and Bathrobes”, especially the ones from Denizli, are not used only at homes but also presented by 5 or 4 star hotels in all over the world as a quality service sign. Moreover, visitors of these hotels would consider a negative point in their services if “Turkish Towels and Bathrobes” were not kept in bathrooms, sport centers, saunas and Turkish baths.

Bursa is one of the most important manufacturing centers in the textile field in the world and it is mostly concentrated on the manufacturing of curtains, curtaining and upholstery fabrics, decoration fabrics, bedding products, towels and bathrobes as well as other textiles. There are hundreds of companies which are active in manufacturing and trading on all kinds of textiles in Bursa. Many of these companies have been organized very well and come together in “Bursa International Textile and Shopping Centre”, called Buttim in short. In Buttim, there are about 850 textile companies, most of which are active in the sector of home textiles, curtaining and upholstery fabrics. In Buttim, there are about 320 showrooms where every kind of home textiles and textile products are presented to thousands of national and international visitors. Buttim is such a huge center that it has a daily visitor capacity of 20 thousand. Therefore, visitors abroad looking for upper quality and a wide range of home textiles, curtains, curtaining and furnishing fabrics etc. should not go back home without visiting Buttim.

Besides large-scale firms, there are many small and medium sized companies scattered all around the country. In the rural areas around some cities like Denizli, Mugla and Kastamonu, the production of traditional fabrics is still widespread, and recently they have been used in the production of home textiles. One of these traditional fabrics having worldwide fame is the “Buldan Fabric”, from the Buldan province of Denizli. With its characteristic designs, it is unique and carries the heritage of the past into the present as it is woven on traditional handlooms. This fabric, which has a completely natural look and basic textile characteristic due to its being made of pure cotton, is widely used both in traditional and modern home decoration. Another traditional fabric is “Selalmaz Çemberi” which takes its name from Selalmaz, a region in Kastamonu. This fabric is also obtained from pure cotton yarn and woven on hand looms. It is a very thin fabric like tulle. It is a difficult fabric to weave that one can only weave one meter per day. Due to its outstanding originality it is used widely in-home decoration as well as in clothing. “Azdavay Çemberi” is another famous fabric woven in Azdavay, a town of Kastamonu. It is made from linen or pure cotton and it is a very original hand woven fabric. This fabric like Selalmaz Çemberi, is woven loose or dense. It is used widely in home decoration and clothing production.

Since all of these traditional fabrics are natural, made of pure cotton or linen without using any chemical dyes, they are environmentally friendly. Therefore, there is considerable demand for home textiles made of these fabrics in international markets. Today the Turkish home textile industry is aware of the trend in international markets towards the increasing demand for healthier and more environmentally friendly products and quickly adapts itself to developments in legal and technical regulations. Many manufacturers in the sector are able to produce with quality and environment management systems, e.g. ISO 9000 series. Additionally, some companies in the home textile sector have private Eco labels.

In a rapidly changing world, the home decoration field is very sensitive to all changes. That’s why the creation of collections with innovative and modern designs and motifs in addition to the quality of the product is essential. Turkish home textile manufacturers are very conscious about fashion creation and design, which enables them to gain a special place in international markets. New and modern designs and unique motifs, all created by Turkish designers, keep a finger on the pulse of world home decoration fashion and meet most tastes and preferences.

EXPORTS Besides meeting domestic demand in Turkey, the Turkish home textile sector with its high potential in the export market and its wide range of products and superior quality is an important export earner for the country. The sector exports about 60% of its production. According to the International Trade Center’s (ITC) statistics, Turkey was the fourth largest exporting country in home textiles with a value

The main export products in 2013 were towels, bathrobes, dressing gowns, bed linens, furnishing and curtain fabrics, and bed spreads. The other main markets are Russia, USA, France, the U.K., Italy Ukraine, and the Netherlands.

With its fashion products, the advanced technology of production and quality of products, Turkey has been increasing her share in the main markets, especially in the European market. Therefore, prominent world suppliers have started to cooperate with Turkish manufacturers for joint production in the home textile field.

Details of Dina Vanelli’s award wining Linses Timothy product. It is an article inspired by fashion with the appearance of a softly flowing apparel fabric in wool. The unusual pattern is based on a dull/shiny effect and a certain “hazy look”. The generously made Jacquard has a handmade effect - elegant and extravagant. With its restrained elegance the pattern can adapt to many furnishing roles. The pleasant handle is especially noteworthy, as it emphasizes the effect of luxury. This product can be used as curtain and decorative fabric for accessories in the hotel and in the upmarket residential sector. It comes in 315 cm width/height.

D

ina Vanelli is a reference amongst Turkish textile companies and an innovative player on a global basis. MoOD is an important exhibition for them where they meet the right customers. It is a pleasant place and you’re never far removed from the exhibition.”
